I was there for 40 minutes. My bill was $500!!! Outrageous! The blood work was $193. I knew that but $500? I was furious by the time I got out of there. I asked her for some medicine to take home and she refused. I had to buy some on Chewy. And the end result...his chin didn't look better. Don't go here. However, my 10 month old cat has been experiencing eye issues on his right eye for 5 weeks. Our vet (Dr K at Park Rose In Roselle) referred me to Eye Care for Animals but they do not have an open slot until the end of July. My kitten was originally checked for an eye injury by my vet, we had tried one antibiotic gel without success and went back 5 days later for a recheck. He was given a new antibiotic gel that has a steroid to combat the inflammation and pain medication to give him relief. This worked well but when I ran out of the steroid gel, the swelling reappeared. I was stressed, as one would imagine. I called this location and had a very wonderful and reassuring conversation with Kim. With the only opening available being in July, I did find a separate place for an earlier appointment. However, I thought I'd at least give a review to acknowledge how wonderful Kim was with me and to give credit where credit is due. My impression of this experience is that if you have a great interaction at the very beginning, just via the phone with front desk staff--then it speaks volumes about the entire staff and facility. So, if you're reading this Kim, thank you so very much. I will always remember your kindness and your patience. I will keep your office in mind just based on your professionalism and your willingness to help me. 10/10.

Each time I have spoken with the front desk representative, the interactions have come across as rude and dismissive. Simple questions are answered with attitude, as though customers are inconveniencing the staff just by calling. During this most recent call, I was actually hung up on after addressing the representative's behavior. When I called back, I spoke with the manager, "Lizzy," and asked who her supervisor was. She replied that it was "the only doctor we have here." It was the tone and delivery of comments like that which reflect the ongoing issue with customer service at this office, the responses consistently feel snarky and unprofessional. Over time, this type of treatment gets old, especially for paying customers who are simply trying to get information or care for their pets. On top of that, the office itself had a noticeable urine smell during my visit. I hope Dr. Augustine takes a serious look at the customer service experience being provided at Malta Vet and makes improvements. Professionalism and respectful communication matter.

Dr. Weidner was our savior! He is so conscientious and caring. Over the years this condition had become very hard to treat, and our cat, being semi-feral, was hard to give medication to. Dr. Weidner tried to give us as many options as possible, but was honest in his opinion of what might work or might not work. The prices are reasonable and there was NEVER any pressure to do high-priced invasive tests or procedures. In the end, he helped give our cat the best life she could have, right up to the very end. Her breathing became very difficult, and she had a stroke. We called and they made room for us that day, which I'm sure wasn't easy. Dr. Weidner also made a point to be the one who helped us on this last day since he had been the one we saw all along. All the staff is knowledgable, and gentle. Recently our boy Finn dislocated his hip and needed surgery to fix it. We called every VCA around and everyone was booked, it was also a Saturday so that was understandable. Aurora was the last VCA on our list because it's an hour and a half southeast of our home. So we called to see if we could get him in, we were told yes but it was a 2-3 hour wait because they were packed as well. We waited because our Finn is worth the wait. Finn got in to see a doctor, they ran all of their tests/X-rays and kept us informed every step of the way. We eventually got into a room and were given the results along with all the options and costs, they were very professional and informative. We decided to wait until Monday to make an appointment for surgery, otherwise we would have had to pay the "weekend fees/rates. We called Monday to schedule an appointment for surgery. Surgery was scheduled for Tuesday. Tuesday morning we dropped off Finn and his food; we were told they would call us before and after surgery and again before bedtime, and they did. We arrived Wednesday afternoon to pick Finn up and we were given all of his paperwork and meds, then we instructed on what to look out for during the healing process and how to use his meds and to call if we needed anything and to schedule an appointment with our VCA for a follow up. He was so helpful--examining our dog, explaining the issue and appropriate procedure--and answering all of our questions (some of which we likely asked more than once) with patience, kindness, and candor. It was already a little too late. And then began her system shutting down. Thank god for some reason since she couldn't eat, she wouldn't take those 1/2 tabs and took her about a month to finally get the toxins out of her system and get back to herself before she took them. Upon realizing I could not afford this amount and after finding the same prescription available at a lower cost elsewhere, I requested a paper prescription. To my surprise, I was informed that he could not provide a paper prescription until he confirmed the medication's effectiveness, which meant I was compelled to purchase it from their pharmacy. After 45 days, I would need to return for another visit to assess the medication's efficacy before receiving a paper prescription to fill elsewhere. After I left, my wife called the office only to be told that I had been rude during my visit, which was not the case; I had been apologetic about my inability to purchase the medication from them. When my wife spoke to the vet, he claimed he would have provided a paper prescription had I not left immediately upon mentioning I could find it cheaper elsewhere. He then stated that if I returned, the prescription would be available at the front desk, which closes at 4:30 PM. My mother kindly offered to retrieve the prescription, believing it would be waiting for us. However, upon her arrival, Dr. Khorsand insisted that she purchase the $184 medication from them first, reiterating that he needed to confirm its effectiveness before issuing a paper prescription. He also made disparaging remarks about my wife during their conversation. The entire experience was utterly frustrating. Previously, we had purchased costly medication from their pharmacy, yet there were no records of our dog, Cole, when we returned. I have never encountered a veterinary office that withholds prescriptions from clients unless they have purchased them directly. The doctor seemed more interested in arguing and asserting that we were rude than in providing professional care. While I must commend the front office staff for their kindness, Dr. Khorsand's conduct was unprofessional and indicative of someone whose compensation may be tied to the volume of prescriptions sold. If you have the option to choose another veterinary office, I strongly recommend considering it. I do not frequently leave negative reviews, but this experience was one I would not wish upon anyone. We paid over $300 for a consultation with Dr. Khorsand, who did not even examine my dog, and for medication that I could have obtained at our preferred pharmacy for half the cost. I will never return to this office and feel sorry for any future animals who may be under Dr. Khorsand's care.
