I loved the ambiance of this winery. Sitting on the back deck overlooking the vineyards with the rocky slopes around you was beautiful. The wines were ok, interesting is the best way to describe them. Enjoyed the whites and rose, done in styles not commonly found in the states, not fond of their reds (common theme for me throughout Baja) Food was solid too, ordered pizza (I know, pizza in Mexico right?) and salad. Another lovely trip to the Valle and Vina de Frannes did not disappoint. My partner and I were looking for a relaxing spot to kill some time. We wanted a comfy space that wasn't too formal and this was exactly what we were looking for. The interior is modern with high ceilings and comfy couches to lounge on. We were thinking of getting some non-alcoholic options like coffee but ultimately went with a wine tasting. When in Rome! We enjoyed 5 different wines -- 1 was a bonus since they accidentally poured us the wrong one. Everyone was very sweet and the outside seating is also gorgeous as you overlook the vineyards. The spot is also right up against the mountains so you get not just the beautiful vineyard views but also the mountains just in the distance. We absolutely loved it. They also put up a Christmas Tree, which I enjoyed even if the holidays are long past! hah. I'm all about Christmas all of January. The shop also sells chocolate which looked yummy but I passed on since I just ate! Well worth the visit. read more

Hmm, the guys told us to come here... we're glad we did! The wines, tbh wasn't that great, it was ok. They specializes in Cab Franc but just not what we liked. We also got sangrias and that was tasty. The food is great though. We got the aguachilles and chicharrones octopus. The aguachilles was excellent. Perfect amount of citrus. The octopus chicharrones was fried to taste like chicharrones, you make tacos with it. It was too fried in my opinion, but wasn't bad. Views were great. AC inside. Friendly service. We happened upon here as a happy accident. We had reservations at the Chateau next door, but the doorman told us they were closed when we arrived and suggested we go next door. Hm, sounded kind of sketchy, but it ended up being the prettiest winery we went to that day. The service was also excellent. Delightful winery. We had a large party and were seated in a room upstairs with spanning views of the vineyard. There was a large boardroom-like table, as well as a couch and coffee table. The red wines were very delicious. We enjoyed our bottle of the house blend. Additionally, they've serve very tasty food. We shared a variety of dishes including wood-fired pizza and quesadilla. It was a bit too bitter for my taste although others in my group liked it. Wine 4:Merlot : was not bad. It was one of my favorites along with Sauvignon Blanc. USD $33.68 / $670 Pesos. Alot of us liked the smoothness to this one than the Cabernet Franc. Wine 5: Pater: Cabernet Sauvignon mixed with Merlot ( Red). I've been coming to the valley for over 35 years and I've been here maybe 300 times. It's my first time to this Vineyard, because I've always waited to come here when they were were less people. I arrived on a Tuesday to find that only two couples were here. The Vineyard is beautiful with a very simple and modern, yet rustic architecture. I decided to do their tasting of Premier wines for $27. I've noticed over the last 10 years that many vineyards in Valle have increased their prices not only on the tastings but on the bottles themselves. I really don't like doing this but I am forced to compare the quality of the wines to wines that I can get from Europe at a fraction of the cost that actually taste better but since I'm here I try to enjoy the experience and not compare. I recently was in Bordeaux and tasted some incredible wines at 1/3 of the price. But I guess you have to get to Bordeaux first to taste them , ha ha Ha. The second wine is a 90%cab franc 10% merlot. A nice body but a bit bitter on the back of the throat. The third wine is a 2017 90% merlot and 10% franc. It must have reached its peak 2 years ago. It was overaged. The fourth is 70% cab sav and 30% merlot. This Pater wine is delicious. The last wine is a sweet wine called Duz. It is great with chocolate or a sweet desert. It is yummy. read more

Our 1st stop was Monte Xanic but the gate was closed so we left & stumbled along to this place that was near by. They opened the big gate & we drove down a long dirt road. We had 5 tastings, not the best wine I've ever had but the place was cute. My favorite wine was the last they gave us to taste which was Duz. We also tried their brownie dessert that was served with their delicious house ice cream that had basil. Sounds weird but it was amazing & refreshing. Their tiramisu was also delicious. read more

We stopped in to Vina de Frannes for a tasting and some lunch and we really enjoyed ourselves. We sat on the outside wrap around patio and it was a beautiful view! We enjoyed the wines, I especially liked the Rosado, very nice! We ordered the cheese and meat plate and also the Pulpo (octopus) and roasted garlic pizza which was insanely good!! Still dreaming of it! Our wine tasting gal, wears incredibly knowledgeable about all the varietals and was very friendly. Stop #3 on my self-tour of Valle. It's a bit far out there, but the grounds are beautiful. The olive trees, vineyards, the striking mountains, different types of cacti and flowers adorn the landscape. We were seated outside to enjoy the fresh air. I'm used to dining with nature but here the flies were so much more prevalent than other places which made for an annoying dining experience. We had the charcuterie board as an accompaniment to the wine tasting. I had five wines, mostly red. I did enjoy the one white they served me, a chardonnay. Two of the reds were just opposites of each other and I didn't enjoy either one - a 90/10 Cab/Merlot and a 90/10 Merlot/Cab. The Duz dessert style wine didn't have the complexity or a heaviness to it that I was expecting, but I bought a bottle anyway to take home and try a second time. read more

Most Elegant and Great View in El Valle. An absolutely beautiful setting, this is definitely one of the greatest views. Due to the orientation of the winery and seating area, it resembles a culdesac so there is nothing but vineyard and mountains in sight. Beautiful! Just a tip: they do have a private room upstairs! The room has glass panels all along the wall, it is great and oversees the vineyard. It is available for groups between 8-14 people. Though there is no cost, reservations are ideal three days in advance so they can prepare the room for your group. This private room is a perfect option to still have a great view when it is too hot or too cold out to sit outside. Though their wine was okay, the overall experience made up for any concerns. Their service was great and the servers were very knowledgeable. The only other setback, in addition to the 'okay' wine, would be their cheese platter. It was subpar, I would not recommend it. However, all of their other food looked absolutely delicious. We plan to have lunch there to try their unique and seemingly yummy pizzas. read more

We found a table in the patio and and waited for 15-20 minutes and no one came to take our order or welcome us. We would make eye contact trying to get their attention and they would just walk away... so weird. They also were not busy, it made no sense. We ended up walking out. Will not be coming back. The one star is for the guard in the entrance that opened the gate for us. read more

This was the second of two wineries visited as part of a day trip to the Valle de Guadalupe organized by Boca Roja Wine Adventures. The winery was founded by Ernesto Alvarez Morphy Camou, formerly owner of Chateau Camou. In the pursuit of creating a 100-point wine awarded by renowned wine critic Robert Parker he left Chateau Camou for this winery. In the pursuit of this dream he has hired a very notable wine consultant Michel Rolland, considered a "rock star" in his field. Due to this partnership you'll notice that the wines are made in the Bordeaux style. The property overlooks the vineyard and during my visit in mid-December I am reminded why I chose to remain a SoCal gal... pleasant weather even during wintertime. It was a relatively slightly warm sunny day. Our group essentially had the winery to themselves as we nibbled on charcuterie and cheese plates upon arrival. We were greeted by Carlos, the GM of the winery and he personally led us on the 5-glass tasting menu. Between tastes he lectured us about the history of the winery. 1. Sauvignon Blanc - a dry white that is light enough to be used as a palate cleanser from the previous winery. It is aged 30 days in steel tanks. 2. Chardonnay - aged 5 months in French oak. It has a moderate oak taste but still possess the main characteristics of the fruit. This was my favorite white. 3. Cabernet Franc - their signature red. It is similar to Cabernet Sauvingnon except lighter and it is primarily used as a blending grape when making Bordeaux wine. They use exclusively this grape in this bottle and this ended up being my favorite due to its fruit-forward taste and smoothness. 4. Merlot - Carlos poured this to prove that not all Merlot is bad, considering that Merlot sales plummeted upon the release of "Sideways". Considering that Merlot isn't one of my favorite grapes it's actually quite smooth and not very tannicky. 5. Pater - a premium blend of Cabernet Sauvingnon and Merlot. They use new barrels to age this blend. I would've purchased the Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc as gifts but our tour group was in a hurry to the next destination to ensure we could reach a certain area by sunset and at the time I was well past my 1-bottle limit for wine I could bring back to the US. I really hope that I'll have another opportunity to purchase these wines soon because I know a few people I'd love to share these wines with! read more

I am no wine expert, but I can say that I learned enough to know that the man who owns this place and the man who runs it... are! The operator shared a wealth of knowledge and their influence from French experts and techniques. They still do everything the "Mexican" way (or so they called it) meaning the hard way, and it shows in their final products! Pros? Gorgeous setting They have a full menu and they prepare it to go with the specific wines they have at the time I rarely like Chardonnay (never say never), but I truly enjoyed theirs... It wasn't overly oaked and had a very pleasant aroma The merlot they had reminded me of a wine I tried in the dessert just north of the border (by about 100 feet) that I absolutely loved... and that brought back lots of good memories as a good wine should! The host truly made us feel welcome and thanked us each individually for coming Cons? I can't think of a single thing, but I will say it was too bad we couldn't get a closer look of the worker who was about 500 feet away but singing so loud we felt we were being personally serenaded! ;-) read more

The tasting room has incredible architecture and design - it was so surprising to find it in a quiet corner of Valle de Guadalupe! Far from the main roads and the crowds, Vina de Frannes is for sure one of our favorite wineries in Guadalupe Valley! I would 100% plan to eat lunch or dinner here next time. What a gorgous vineyard/restaurant off the beaten roads of the Valley of Guadalupe! I'm not sure if you need to have reservations to do a tasting here, but there were several parties here after you drive through several dirt roads. You'll be presented with a a pretty estate and a new postmodern building that houses the restaurant and tasting room. We had lunch here and had some fantastic ceviche, octopus pizza, steak, and portobello mushroom. I want to put sesame and beets in my ceviche now. The wines were good and went down smoothly. Horrible customer service. My family unknowingly parked in the wrong spot and got yelled at by the owner. We are from San Diego and we drove down to this restaurant based on a recommendation. We didn't even step foot in this place because the owner had such terrible customer service. We drove down to a different restaurant which was about five minutes away and had an amazing time.
