So far, not a great experience. We asked if they were open and were told yes. Just no buffet. They're out of a lot of food. No lasagna. No salad dressings. Then I found plastic in my salad--yuck. Then something on the inside of the water pitcher that was left for me at the table. Very slow! At one point we almost walked. The food was meh. I had chicken limoncello and dude had chicken Marsala. Really, no complaints here. We just had my mother's 90th birthday party there. Around 30 people. We opted for cash bar and prices were on point, if not less than some local bars. Josefina was great helping us organizing the party. We were able to get in a little earlier to set up balloons, pictures, table decor etc; Off topic, I believe the owner supports firefighters. We went there for Mother's Day. where to start - well reservation was at 130 we weren't seated until 150. We were told there was plenty of food. Well that was false. Sternos weren't lit so food was cold. They stopped making omelets at 220 even though hours were until 3. They ran out of French toast, calamari and roast beef. website said carving station and it was just a bunch of carved lunch meat in a pan. We were Charged for tip and gratuity and we never had a server. So disappointed will never go here and would recommend against going here. We were charged $20 for a two year old. read more

Very bad business. I think this place just wants money money money. They do not make anything clear at all. The bartender lady does not know how to make drinks. I asked for a tequila sunrise and it was just tequila and orange juice... like... ‍ The host of the party paid for 2 hours of open bar just so the bartender can say it was a tab. I can guarantee for the money she paid for the "open bar" didn't sum up to the amount of drinks people got. They're charging actual bar prices when again the bartender didn't know how to make drinks. We were around the area and yelped a lunch place for a hungry couple. I had very low expectations as it is a lunch buffet. I was blown away by the delicious food. The selection is not big but the flavors of each dish was amazing. My hubby fell in love with the pizza. He said that alone made whatever we paid for worth it! The chicken parmigiana was not breaded which is perfect for low carb, the pasta romana sauce was maybe the best I've ever had. My most favorite was the minestrone, how did such a basic soup taste so delicious. We will definitely make this a regular lunch place when we're out in the burbs! read more

I first was introduced to Via Bella as I was hired to take photos of an 8th grade dinner for their graduation. and time as a guest for a weeding and once as I brought my mother here for dinner. Each time I've come I had a great time but they may have more to do with my party and less to do with the banquet hall entrance is on the side of the building so it's larger then what you might expect. the decor is a little dated. I'm sure this place was a big hit when Wang Chung had their last big hit (Everybody Have Fun Tonight - 1986) The restaurant I enjoyed my dish but recall my mother didn't really care for hers. The food is okay and quantity is good but the server was not. The staff moved my wife's plate from in front of her while she was eating. She never came back to see how the meal was, which sometimes happens during busy times. The place had people at 3-4 tables only, not busy at all. The food was better here than at Tavern on Lagrange and better priced and quantity also. The grilled Calamari 1/2 order was twice the full order at Tavern on Lagrange and grilled perfectly. If I could give them no stars I would. WORST restaurant experience ever, avoid it at all cost there's better options in the area trust me. Being our first time here we walk in and ask if there serving lunch or dinner at 3:30pm. The lady that came up said she just had one menu for the whole day & a buffet available for $9 and change. She suggested we go look at it and see if we would like that option. Immediately it was a no no for me. The pizza seemed cold and stale, the food in the buffet cart as we opened each tray no vapor came out so for sure they were just cold, who knows how long it had been sitting there. Then every single spoon was crusty from people serving themselves and then sitting out for who knows how long, yuck. As we returned to the table the lady yells to a man at the bar "I'm leaving so you better take care of that". Which made us feel like uncomfortable and unwelcome. The older men then took some water to our table and asked what we wanted to eat, I ordered calamari but my hubby for some odd reason chose buffet. So I thought if I ordered from the menu it won't be as bad. Well that wasn't the case, I couldn't even bite in this fried calamari, spinach looked old and no lemon on the side. And my hubby served himself and from the first bites he regretted his decision. Also as we are seating in this restaurant trying to eat but rather looking around. The lady who was leaving is chasing this older man around the restaurant complaining about a tip she had received that was wrong for the whole time we were there. We (The Guests) didn't get much attention or should I say NONE. One cup of water is all we got to drink; no drink menu or "would you like something to drink" and no refill on our water whatsoever. Today, we stopped by to get brunch and never expected to be one of my favorite restaurant experiences. Dawn is by far my favorite part of the experience. She is a fun, energetic, wonderful person, and makes the experience worthwhile. I have a gluten sensitivity and right away Dawn, without missing a beat, makes multiple suggestions. She included, "I will prepare it just like I prepare it for my daughter". You can see from table to table, she is familiar with her client, treats each individual with happiness and seems to know everyone by their first name. She is the heart of the restaurant. Bought the carryout Groupon to try this place. Ordered fried calamari as well as the half slab of ribs. Both were mediocre at best and very expensive. The calamari was rubbery and the barbecue sauce on the ribs wasn't anything special. The service was very slow even when picking up. I would save my money and go elsewhere. read more

This is such an awkard place. It's decorated by the Italian Ivanka Trump from the early 80s. There's ample seating, but not enough bodies in there. And now I know why. The food isn't good. This place needs a Gordon Ramsay intervention. The dishes are old school, but not old school GOOD. All the sauces are super heavy, nothing looked or tasted fresh (except the house salad that was actually ok). The soup was flour and water, my husbands carbonara tasted like gravy on over-cooked pasta. My six finger cavetelli was marginally better, but immediately congealed after being served. I just knew I was going to have an upset stomach after we ate here, and what do you know? I did. My friends and I tried the new locaton this past weekend. The waiter was very pleasant and I will say hathe looked very busy. That said, I thoughtt the service was slow. The waiter never checked on us from the time he took our order until the meal arrived and then never checked to see how the meal was. Two in our group were over chaged for their wine, I was charged for the sauce for my portabello raviolli (which was cheese, by the way...no evidnce of mushrooms although I will say it was quite tasty). I think there should be a cutoff point for reviews on Yelp. Seriously, why would anyone use a 2 or 3 year old review to pick a restaurant. I didn't recognize Via Bella in some of these older reviews. Could it be because it changed locations? I met a girlfriend there for lunch two weeks ago and I can't say enough good things about Via Bella. From Dawn the hostess, to the servers and cooks, our food was delicious and delivered promptly and hot. We had the pepper and egg sandwiches (it being Lent). The eggs were cooked properly with the peppers mixed thoughout the sandwich. It may seem like a simple sandwich to screw up, but it could be. A Groupon took us here for dinner. We sympathized with the staff, who was dealing with a pill of a party sitting behind us, as they were bending over backwards to try and accommodate their requests. Can this food compete with the Titans of Italian food like Rosebud or Francescas? No. The homemade cavatelli was fair, but a bit under-cooked. We tried both the vodka sauce and the alfredo sauce, and while both were OK, they lacked flavor. The vodka sauce tasted more like a run-of-the-mill marinara. The alfredo would have benefited greatly from a punch of garlic or Parmesan. The chicken that we ordered to top the alfredo was the savior of the dish. Whether or not we will return is up in the air. While nothing offended us about Via Bella, nothing particularly impressed us either. read more

My family has been frequenters of Via Bella in both it's old location and it's new location. We are BIG BIG fans. We have never been dissappointed! When my daughter comes back from school this is where she wants to eat. We eat in the restaurant, at the bar and also do carry-out. Service is always good. At least one of the owners is always in the restaurant and tries his best to greet (and thank) people for coming in. It's such a shame that they can't do something to draw people who are driving by....the outside of the restaurant does the inside no justice. When you walk-in it is SUCH a nice place but from the outside it looks like a big banquet hall. I've read many of the reviews and must say that many of the 1 or 2 start people just seem miserable. I've NEVER gotten an upset stomach from the food, never had to beg for water ....I could go on but won't bother. Their half-portions are usually enough (but if you are hungry get the full portion. it's great that they have TVs in the bar area and somehow they don't detract from the "nice feel" of the restaurant (yet if you want to watch a game while eating it works out very nicely. read more

I love delicious food, great ambiance, and personable wait staff who aim to please. My friends and I found all three here at my birthday choice of restaurants, Via Bella, conveniently located on LaGrange, north of I55. Growing up in the greater Chicagoland area, and being a regular restaurant guest, I really felt right at home with good-natured wait staff. I went to Via Bella the other night and thought it was a great choice if you are in the La Grange area. It has outdoor seating and spacious bar seats, and a nice, intimate dining section in the restaurant. It's a little too dark though- they could use some candles on the table or extra lighting or something, but it's very cute. The portions are enormous! I had the chicken marsala and it was two chicken breasts that could have fed 4 people. They serve it with a side of pasta which is very good, and the salad with peppercorn ranch was delicious! read more

I arrived early and was waiting for a friend so I sat at the bar. I couldn't decide on a wine so the bartender offered me samples of several wines which I thought was outstanding service. She also made some great recommendations, was very friendly and the service was outstanding. As soon as my friend arrived, we were seated quickly. The service was fast and friendly. I had Baked Rigatoni and my friend had the Chicken Marsala - both were excellent. No complaints at all. What's nice about this restaurant is you can order 1/2 serving or a full serving depending on how hungry you are. I ordered the 1/2 serving and still had left-overs. My family has ordered from this restaurant several times for carry out. All five times we have ordered carry out, NOT ONCE has the staff given us all of our food. We will even have the staff double check to be sure they have given us our entire order. The first four times, they told us they would not deliver the missing items and we would need to return to pick them up. Tonight, they offered to deliver and the person delivering argued with me about the validity of our address. First, he called to inform me that I was mistaken about my address. The second time, he made a point to mention it again at the door. At no point, was there an apology. The food quality has not improved. A person in our party ordered the lobster ravioli. There were a total of four raviolis drowning in sauce. The specialty salads are the same size as the side salads, but twice the price. All in all, this has been a disappointing experience at a once lovely establishment. We will be giving the remaining gift certificates away or throwing them in the garbage. read more

We found this place through Groupon. We used it for catering a birthday party. The food was delicious! We had no issues at all using the Groupon. We got a huge deep tray of chicken vesuvio and one of pasta with meat sauce. Both were very tasty! We also got a shallower but full tray of pasta salad and one full tray of fruit. The fruit was fresh and delicious! The only (minor) complaint was that the pasta salad could have been more flavorful. We will probably use them again for another party. read more

Our waitress disappeared most of the time and when finally she came back she would watch tv (wheel of fortune was on) while our glasses were empty.
