Have been here s few times. Had dinner with our son on Saturday, and we must of missed the early dinner crowd as we were seated right away. This restaurant has a big variety of choices on their menu. All of us ordered our favorite burrito. Some restaurants even though their burrito meat is chunky, they have a tendency to be kind of tough. Not here, the meat is nice and tender. My better half ordered her favorite the green chili burrow, our son ordered his favorite as well. Today I stuck with the red chili con carne burrito with a side of beans. Sometimes, one just feels like having something simple. Via Delosantos has been in business since 1986. If you ever have a hankering for tamales this is the place to have a good tamale meal. When you come into the restaurant there is patio seating and on a nice day could be just to your liking. Their bar has a huge variety of tequilas if that is your thing. It's not that big of a place but, it can handle a lot of customers. While we were there a bunch of employees put on some big sombreros and made a lot of noise and sang happy birthday to one of their customers, which I thought was nice to do that. When I say they made a lot noise, the whole restaurant knew what was going to happen. They are located north of Dunlap Avenue and Central Avenue. We really enjoyed our dinner at Via. The shrimp fajitas were sizzling and flavorful. The chicken enchilada and chicken taco were tender and plentiful. The Sonoran fry bread was amazing and authentic. And the chips and salsa were fresh and hard to stop eating. We have been coming here since the late 80s and have never been disappointed. Great food, cozy atmosphere, fun times! read more

It's one of my all time favorites when it comes to Mexican food in the valley. Their meets where it be beef, pork and or chicken are flavorful and moist. The bar has many different kinds of Tequila. They gave me good advice on trying different ones and now I have a favorite. The staff are friendly and know the menu. The fired ice cream is my favorite desert from here with honey. Everything was good, nothing was amazing, but we really enjoyed the ambiance of dining on their patio. Chips and salsa are complimentary, and neither salsa was spicy (which was a little disappointing, but the chunkier salsa was still tasty). We tried three vegetarian fillings in enchiladas, one with green sauce and the others with red sauce. Our favorite filling was the spinach and onion, second place went to the grilled asparagus and corn. The zucchini and corn filling wasn't interesting. The green sauce couldn't be tasted it was so bland, and the red sauce added spice without adding flavor, which was disappointing. This place is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Arizona. My only complaint is - why didn't we find you sooner?? Not only do they serve delicious authentic Mexican food, they also have an impressively long tequila menu (They can boast a selection of more than 100 different tequilas! ). My son had just eaten ice cream before we arrived, so he was not planning to eat much. He loved his Supreme Quesadilla with shredded beef so much that he quickly devoured it...without letting me have a bite to taste. The vegetarian section of their menu is pretty extensive, so my husband was super happy; he practically licked the plate clean of his zucchini & corn enchilada with white sauce. Friendly service. This restaurant is a neighborhood spot. I ordered a cheese enchilada, which was rubbery & a shredded beef taco which I didn't try yet. My son ordered a #4 green burro with enchilada sauce & rice & beans. The burro was terrible. Had a weird taste. He ate two bites. We asked for the manager for a refund on his $15.00 dinner. The manager never came out. But the server told us that the manager said he ate to much of the dinner??? . Soooo no refund. One of the other server, Stefanie, was super nice. Apologized, checked us out & gave us 10% off cards. We gave them to people waiting to be seated. Good luck ! Maybe they'll like it better.... read more

My husband and I love their fried ice cream. It's definitely a large portion that could easily be shared by more than 2 people. You can choose your topping, either honey or chocolate. Man I haven't been here in Forever at least 10 years back then the food was not very good service sucked but they didn't have the best margaritas and I really cheap price 4 things have changed food has gotten a lot better not the greatest but still pretty damn good prices are good I had the tostadas which the tortillas are nice and crispy not soggy and you get a lot of places I liked the beans and it was loaded full of cheese and vegetables it was great chips and salsa or average service really good on top of things and fast and she had quite a few tables taken care of I was very impressed with her and guess what the Margaritas are so great at least the house when is plus they have like a hundred different types of tequila I think definitely start going back here read more

This is the quasi essential Mexican dive restaurant. A hole in the wall at the top of Central and the food is outstanding! The chips are fresh and the hot sauce has a good bite but does not blow the top of you head off. Had the tamale and it was very good, great portion of masa and meat, did not disappoint and I also had nacho. The best thing was the staff was friendly and the food arrived hot and quickly. This bar must have the largest selection of tequilas in the west with 180 choices. The bartender mentioned, at one point they had over 300. I was introduced to this one of a kind establishment by a friend and immediately became a big fan!! Small in size it packs a huge impression, as you walk in and admire the abundance of premium tequilas on display. Inside the bar, empty tequila bottles hang upside down from the ceiling that surrounds a cozy bar. Ordered the Tacos, because that's what goes best with tequila & beer and they've done themselves proud to make a great tasting crispy taco! Prices for food and tequila match the quality of choices, but it can get expensive if you enjoy top shelf tequila. Can't wait to come back and sample other unique choices. read more

I have been going there since they opened in the 80s. The food is still good, but the service has been on a steady decline for at least 5 years. Last time I went in for takeout the place was 25% full and there was 4 of us waiting for 10 minutes for somebody to help us. I had called in my order so it should have taken 5 minutes max, I was there for 30 minutes. When they finally brought my order 2 of my 4 orders were wrong. My 1 star rating is at least 2 stars too high. This has been going on and getting worse for 5 years. I am done with them. read more

Took my mother, who is confined to a wheelchair, here a couple weeks ago. Been here many times and she really enjoys the food. It was busy so we waited. Pretty soon there were 4 groups behind us waiting as well. After 10 minutes a table opened up and the waitress began to take us. Then the hostess told her to stop. Since we had a wheelchair we couldn't sit in that area and would have to wait for another table. So they gave it to the couple that came in after us. And did the same with the next table that opened. Best burrito I've had in AZ. Also best chips and salsa. I got a chicken burrito with rice, beans, onions, cilantro, and guacamole. I also got two orders of amazing flan. My mom is from Tunisia (North Africa) and said this is the best flan she's had since my great grandmother died that used to make it from scratch. It's nice and dense and the syrup is the perfect amount of sweetness, a lot of places make it too sweet. Everything is so obviously homemade and delicious. I will be back. read more

This is the 2nd time I've eaten here. The food is good. The portions are generous. I had the shrimp enchilada was green sauce. Tasty with a generous portion of shrimp. The neighborhood is sketchy at night. The waiter was slow. We were in a group of 13 and it took 30 minutes to get him to take our order. When my wife asked about MSG on the food he was disinterested - not good for us because she gets very sick if she eats MSG laden food. So I'm torn. I don't give ratings this low very often but after looking forward to the evidently over-hyped Via Delosantos I was as thoroughly disappointed as can be. Our server was kind and attentive, and the crispy cheese app was actually quite good, but that's where the praise ends. And the demerits were enough for their rating to drop from what would have been a 3 (if the food just wasn't for me) down to a 1. The beef fajitas were not plentiful but that's okay because they were overcooked and utterly tasteless. But that wasn't the worst of it. The shrimp enchiladas were disgusting. Usually (but not exclusively) shrimp or seafood enchiladas are covered with a cream sauce. These were covered in a tomato sauce that was closer to the taste of a tomato paste however. A poor chef's choice perhaps, but also poorly implemented. But even then it got worse. The shrimp were either of an extremely low grade or not cleaned well, or both. Each bite seemed to introduce more and more grit making the dish completely inedible. We didn't complain and paid the full bill but left most of our meal on the table and left unsatisfied, disappointed, and with absolutely no desire to ever come back. Via Delosantos came highly recommended and hyped even more. This was reaffirmed by the high ratings. Well maybe all that comes from the experience of an earlier time, but don't believe the hype. To even call this place ordinary is giving it far too much credit. There are SO many MUCH better places in the area that even "average" should have a tough time... much less "well below average." read more

A group of us decided to have dinner here after a bowling tournament in the area. Upon entering, we were immediately greeted by the hostess and seated. Our server, Maggie, greeted us and allowed us some time to decide what we were going to get. I opted for the combo #1 (taco w/Machaca-Shredded beef, bean tostada & cheese enchilada). This is usually my standard when I try a new place; I figured if they can do the basics well, then I would come back for more. The taco was good, REAL good. The meat was tender and flavorful. Unfortunately, I stuffed myself with their chips and hot salsa, so I was only able to take a few bites of the rest of my meal, but it was good. Their salsas are flavorful too. Maggie was very professional and courteous and broke out our bills separately after the fact...most places will not do that. I will definitely be back whenever I am in the area. read more

Someone took me to lunch here about eight years ago and I had the Albondigas soup. Apparently, it was quite memorable! Overcast January day in Phoenix and I'm cuing up the Mexican soup memory. The place is just as hole-in-the-wall as ever and congrats to them! ... Celebrating 30 years on July 4th of this year. I've never had a margarita here but they look legit. You'll be intimated to get a Dos Equis though. If the XX piñata doesn't pressure you, that guy who doesn't always drink beer but when he does is here in life size cut-out form. And on a poster. The salsa (hot) is a "must-taste" even if you don't do hot. It's got great flavor, doesn't burn your mouth but will clear your sinus. The mild is straight-away good as well. The two chicken enchiladas with rice n beans were tasty too, though more meat wouldn't hurt (I always feel this way, really!) Have I mentioned the Albondigas soup yet?! It's so flavorful. Two big meatballs in the medium (size) and among other veggies, carrots! Is this the only Mexican dish that contains carrots? I mean besides like home-pickled carrots n jalapeño? Good service, good food, even if more Americanized Mexican. It's fresh and well-flavored. Haven't mentioned this part yet: reminds me of this place in Cancun - high school trip - some Mexican stranger who quickly became our tour guide & amigo took us down a narrow road and into a stucco room brimming with color and cerveza.
