Margaritas are delicious food is good. Service is a hit and miss though, I've had both great and not so great servers.

This is my favorite spot to come and enjoy drinks and food. Every time I come to bring new people they have a bad experience with the service. Today around 6pm we waited to be seated and once we got seated our waitress Karen was very rude and had a puss face the whole time she took forever to take our drink order and we had to tell her we were ready for our food order. We had to ask for refills on our soda and she rolled her eyes when we asked. I love going there but I just don't like the service from some of the girls. read more

Worst customer service ever!!!!! The server MAGGIE trying to remove or plates dropped the knife and fork on my Sunday dress!!!!!!!!!!! Little did she know, both were filled with oil from the chorizo we had ordered. She walked away without apologizing or acknowledging what she had done. She walked away and came back for the rest of the plates and didn't even bring me a darn napkin to try to clean myself up. My parents both looked upset at the situation but I kept my cool. When she came back with the check all she said was "sorry for the dress". No discount, free drink, or anything!!!!! Both my parents own businesses and we know our customer is always first and is always right!!!! It stained my dress in the top front and bottom. I didn't make a scene of course, me being me, thought I'd come off. Well it sure didn't!!!!! Took it to the dry cleaners twice and nothing. Days later, I called and spoke to the "owner" named Joel. He said he would ask her about it and would call me back. It has been two weeks and I had not heard from him. I called back 4 times today. They stated he was busy with customers...Okay??? Aren't I a customer as well?? So I called back one last time and told the woman who answered to tell him I was expecting his call by the end of today!!!! She says to hold on, I over hear this "smart woman" who did not put me on hold, speak to a man. She was talking to JOEL! Telling him I was on the line. Little did he know I hear him tell her "say I'm in a meeting".... Ummm really???? I just heard you!!! So I tell her I'm not stupid and heard him say that! She starts mumbling through her words. BOTH LIARS!!!!!! I then get a call back 10 minutes later from "the owner" not remembering who I was!!!!! I had to refresh his memory....No wonder I never got a call back!!!! He then stated I had to take my dress to him and he would take it to the best cleaners ever. Ummm #1 I have no time to be back and forth #2 he thinks I'm lying #3 what kind of customer service is this????? He says he's never seen me and doesn't know who I am and says that he didn't know about the issue because I didn't ask for a manager that same day... helloooooo, I really didn't think it would be that bad and did not want to make a scene at your restaurant??? Make sense??? Obviously not!!! He says he gets people wanting a refund all the time. NEVER HAD I ASKED FOR A DARN REFUND!!!!!!! All I asked for was to pay for my dress. Which was less than our bill!!!!!!! He says he knows the quality of his food and restaurant and blah blah blah. I never complained about that. I'm complaining about the service!!!! Worst customer service we have ever received!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place! If the owner being "the owner" does not know how to treat customers, what can anyone expect from the staff????? THE SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE!!! With that said, the food was good. My friend and I decided to try Via Mar because I was told by a co-worker, whose family is acquaintances of the owner, how great the food was and a cousin told me how wonderful the michiladas were, but I was not informed that I would be ignored after being seated and throughout my time there. I wont get into details, but I will say this, we were only waited on after flagging down the servers every time we needed to order, drinks, appetizers and even our main course. Everything took very long to be served. The server brought out our appetizer with our meals, not good. When the server brought the bill we decided to pay at the front desk, we didn't want to wait another minute sitting at the booth. I assume it was the owner who was at the register because after telling him about my experience at his restaurant he asked if it was my first time there and I said yes and I told him the name of the person who referred me to come and he knew exactly who I was talking about. It is too bad he didn't even try to rectify the bad experience we had in his restaurant, not very good managerial skills for a restaurateur. Sorry Via Mar I am only giving you 1 star because being treated rudely by staff when I am paying for food and service supersedes the food. read more

nasty! my mom ordered a fish soup it was terrible! the broth was not fresh at all seemed like who ever cooked it didn't know how to make it..the soup look redishhh... like if they put some type of seasoning to give it flavoring....the shrimp seemed precooked because they were rubbery and the fish pieces had no meat...i ordered the shrimp cocktail.....it was ok i didn't finish it. my daughter had the kids hamburger meal that was decent the fries were actually good...i kept eating off her plate..i came here because it had some good reviews..but let me tell you ! these people need help in the kitchen...back to the fish soup...my mom didnt even touch it i told her to tell the waitress so she did...the waitress felt offended i could tell by her body language she kept saying how the food was cooked fresh daily....what she should have done was said im sorry mam...may i get you something else...?? or let me get that off your bill...but she charged us! never going back again... read more

I waited until I was starving walked straight to the bar ordered a beer and a Mojarra. Got my beer followed by some chips n salsa extremely quick. The fish came out shortly after and it was amazing. The oysters are great here also, happy hour everyday from 4 to 7. read more

This place USED to be good. Last time I ordered by favorite Moljacate it was pretty much a soup. So watery the meat was floating. Also I tried this spot during lunch time and the server had an attitude and was not nice at all. Never coming here again. Don't waste your money. read more

Me and 7 friends were there for game 3 of dodger vs cubs. I arrived at 430 pm 30 min after happy hours started..happy hour is 4 to 7 pm. . when it was only 3 people the waitress was always checking in... but as soon as more people showed up it was every once in a great while...not only did she hardly check on us aftwr we signaled her.. she also gave us wrong order.. .. i ordered a 30 oz. Beer.. ..she brinngs me a pitcher and says well its here already....then when we asked for the check we didnt see any of the happy hour prices.. everything was full price and when we told her she was wrong she pointed back to the receipt... she said she couldnt split the bill BUT was able to charge us separately and then tell uswhat we ordered was fulll price and charged double... .. why have happy hour prices and not actually use them.. i live walking distance from this place but i dnt think i will ever come back.. this place is so disorganized.. the owner needs to hire better help read more

I've been coming to this place for over a year now and have been disappointed these past several times I've gone. I showed up with a few friends on a Saturday night and decided to sit outside to enjoy the Karaoke. It took the waitress 20 MINUTES to take our drink order because she was soooo busy singing karaoke. Umm shouldn't she be working, and servicing customers instead of singing? Anyway, after taking our drink order she came back with the WRONG drinks! ughh! We let it slide. We then wanted to order food but where was our waitress?...SINGING! It was 11:58pm and she had the guts to tell us that we couldn't order food because kitchen closed at midnight . Umm maybe if she actually did her job as a waitress and didn't take the time to sing we would've been able to order our food. This has happened a few times with the same waitress and I'd recommend management to do something about it. (I'm sure they know who this review is about because she is the only waitress who will go up and sing). read more

This is our fifth time here. We enjoy the shrimp aqua chili, garlic shrimp, shrimp cocktails. The Happy Hour makes it a bit more fun - it's from 4-7 pm. We arrived here about 15 minutes ago. Waited for 10 minutes and just got seated at 6:58 pm. Waitress asked if we wanted any drinks; we asked for the dollar Happy Hour beers. It's now 6:59 pm. She says it's too late. Hmm. Unlikely we are to return. We aren't asking for above and beyond the call of duty, just plain old call of duty. I'm a bit surprised with so many restaurants now with food quality roughly equal to each other that restaurants don't fully see that customer service is crucial. read more

Omg. This is an awesome place for Mexican seafood. We had the agua chiles good lemony spicy flavor, chorizo queso super yummy and the finale of the parillada of mariscos. So much food, such a great value. The retried beans is one the best I have eaten. Service was good. The food is freshly cooked and that takes time. We've been coming here for a while now and everything is always so good (including food & service). Malena is our fave waitress because she's always so nice & comes back to check up on us to make sure food & everything is okay & always asks if we need something else. This past weekend we went back but unfortunately she wasn't able to assist us. The waitress we got seemed to be new because she didn't really come around to ask if everything was okay she forgot to bring us utensils (we would ask her for something and she'd take quite a while to bring it). The chips didn't taste well. The Jamaica I ordered didn't taste like anything it literally just tasted like plain water. The aguachiles weren't that great like the other time, they didn't really taste like anything. The tostadas were just like the chips, I asked if the soda was pepsi or coke and she said it was coke but honestly it tasted like pepsi I know the difference between coke & pepsi & what she brought me was not coke. I don't know why this happened if we always get great service & food. I am a little disappointed but won't stop going to this restaurant. Went today for the first time and had the best service and food!!! Our party of ten showed up and despite them being extremely busy they were able to seat us in a timely manner. Once we were seated we were treated like royalty by Peter. He was VERY attentive to our all our needs. Honestly we can say that Peter is one of a kind and servers like him are hard to find. Been coming to this place for years, really the best michiladas ever, never minded the "issues" but enough was enough. Our final limit was when our credit card was charged 3 times!!! Food is good, but REALLY over priced. And I got tired of being over charged for things. If you don't take a good look at your receipt, you get charged for additional items that were never ordered!! And they automatically round up your tab and they never tell you when the tip is included. Service isn't always the best, sometimes it takes 15 minutes for just a waiter to come to your table and ALWAYS takes about 30 minutes to get your food once it's been ordered. The bathrooms are disgusting! Definitely worse than a nightclubs, which is pretty gross for a restaurant. The inside of the restaurant isn't too clean either. Tables are constantly sticky, trash on the floor. Every time I've gone with my kids, the waiters/waitresses don't look too happy. And they definitely don't keep their own issues to themselves. Constantly talking amongst themselves, complaining more like it, about either their customers and personal lives. The owners/managers are always out back on Friday and Saturday nights drinking and being rude to actual paying patrons. They don't hide the fact that they are "free loading." Today as I went in for my birthday celebration, after looking up the hours (m-thu) they close at 11pm, we decided to go. So first flag was when we were carded for a second drink of dos xx like really shouldn't you have carded me the first time I asked you for my beer? Second flag I was told they did not make peach mojitos there which I'm not sure how that is when I went two days earlier and had three of them. Then they turned off half the lights because they were getting ready to close being only 9:45 pm. Third flag we were asked if we needed anything else because they were going to close soon and she needed to clean like it's barely 10:10 at this point and they close 11?? Then when we are leaving she says what about my tip were like you haven't even let us enjoy our food or drinks all night have just asked us to leave my michelada being barely half ways and you want a tip like wtf! Worst customer service ever. The restaurant had only a few families eating at the time we came in. It was not packed at all. Yet, my family sat there waiting & waiting while the waiters & waitresses walked by us several times without helping us. We sat patiently...until we noticed another family that came in 15 min after we did was getting there food served already & we didn't even have our orders taken yet! How does that happen? We literally brought this restaurant a ton of customers in by recommending them to our friends & family...we also brought our family here for a graduation party in the past & have noticed the service had gotten worse each time. It seems as though the people working hate there job & are bothered by there customers. Once my hubby noticed the other family getting there meals served & we didn't even have our orders taken yet, that was it.
