I love this place! I'm a city girl at heart so when we moved to the burbs I was afraid I'd never eat well again. That seemed to be the case until Via Roma opened in our little town. We have eaten here so many times and it was one of my favorite places of all time. I think it is unrealistic for anyone to expect any restaurant to run smoothly or be perfect 100% of the time. Having worked in a restaurant I know that a lot comes into play. However I would say that they get it right about 98% of the time. My absolute favorite dish is their risotto primavera. Actually all their risottos are yummy. Let me tell you, finding a place that can make a risotto correctly is difficult. Most are pasty or thick. This is the perfect creamy risotto that spreads out on the plate. SO YUMMY. I do agree that sometimes service has been slow. But I have also been to Italy and other parts of Europe where things go much slower than Via Roma. Sometimes it is nice to sit back and relax while you eat. If you are looking some nice dining with good food, at reasonable prices, give Via Roma a try. And don't forget the cannoli for dessert! read more

The only reason they have one star is because they are nice. Little tip for the "italian" chef - a plate of spaghetti with bacon or pancetta and alfredo sauce does not a carbonara make. There is no cream in carbonara. Eggs, cheese, and jowel fat, pancetta if you must and flakes of crushed pepper - hence the dishes namesake the italian miner known as carbonari. Also risotto cannot be made in 7 minutes, or premade- thats how long mibe took to come out. I know when i order risotto i am going to wait 39 minutes for my food, no biggie, otherwise its not risotto. The Meatballs are tiny little frozen things, chicken in risotto was canned chicken breast. I mean for god's sake making your own meatballs is not hard and more cost effective, maybe i am biased as an executive chef at a 100plus year old real Italian establishment. But you guys gotta get a consultant in there. Your desire seems genuine, ambiance is good, but that doesnt help when your serving hamburger helper. read more

Listen up... This is the best italian food I've eaten on this side of the atlantic. The lady who hates this place probably loves McDonalds and Burger King. If this place ever goes out of business, we will probably cry and be depressed until we make it back to Roma, Sorrento and Amalfi. Get a life folks, the prices, service/hospitality and food are the best a man can get. These people are very nice folks and deserve better than to have a disenchanted porker talk poorly about their place. I have many friends and family that have visited the resturant, including the ROMEO's (Retired Old Mens Eating Out club), and they all love this place. I am so thrilled that we have another great place to eat in downtown DP, which is sorely lacking in quality restaurants with a nice atmosphere. The owner and chef are charming and down-to-earth. The bread is delicious and brought in from an authentic bakery. The pasta and sauces are homemade, prepared fresh for your order and wow, can you taste the difference. I love the tonnarelli cacio e pepe - simple, delicious pasta with black pepper and romano cheese. Just like Mama used to make, if my Mama wasn't Irish. ;) I hope that Via Roma continues to thrive and grow so that they can expand their hours. By the way, the prices are unbelievable, way cheaper than the much-less-appealing chain restaurants in the area. Stop in for lunch, you will leave a fan! read more

One of the best Italian places I've eaten. I came in with my date on a busy Friday night, and I was impressed! The food is amazing! You can taste the love, care, and passion that goes into every dish. Not only is the taste authentic but the portions are also generous. My wife and I went to Via Roma's for Valentines Day. It was wonderful...from service to food to experience. We had the carpaccio appetizer, the shrimp risoto and whitefish specials. the risoto was light and tasty. the whitfish was covered in a mushroom sauce with spinach and tomatos...fantastic! Really. Went there the other night and service was terrible they kept us waiting for over 1 hour to get our food and then when it got there it was cold and the center was uncooked, parking is a pain and I know there is parking in the rear but it is still hard to get to I would suggest just keep driving. I love this place. My family goes here about 8 times a year. Sometimes the wait is long but we don't mind since the food is always good. Service is fairly quick and we never feel rushed. The staff is always friendly. I definitely recommend. Hats off to these guys and they will for sure be getting a 5 star rating from me. read more
