I have been to this winery many times for outdoor events and photoshoots in their outdoor area but only got a chance to check out the inside and try their wine this past weekend at a Fitness event that was held there! First off the space is incredibly spacious to host an event especially being able to social distance properly. They also have a small upstairs area as well. The bar itself is a bit on the smaller side. The bartenders were extremely helpful with helping me find a drink I would like out of their specials. They have a house sangria which was so good! I was looking for something with a little less sweetness so they helped me pair the sangria with one of their other reds. They did have pizza which I ordered a margarita one and it wasn't bad though I wish it had a few more toppings. And I do wish they had a few other food options to have with the wine. read more

This is it folks, a really real, Honest-to-God winery here smack dab in the middle of Columbus! Grapes come in from California, they get crushed on site and immediately processed, casked/barreled. The urgency of the process preserves the integrity of the grapes therefore vastly improving the quality of the wine. What I love it that this is about as holistic wine as it gets. Nothing is added to the process: no nitrates, no potassium, no oak flavorings, no "artificial flavor" additions. You get the grape gone wild and that's about it. And it's completely WONDERFUL. I've been trying to develop my palate for several years now. (And that's been quite the fun journey, lol!) I know what I don't like and can verbalize it quite well. I recently sampled a flight of three wines (and then bought an entire bottle to consume with friends while there with an AMAZING cheese plate-all artisan here, kids.) Tasting in this order: Trovato, Adamo & Trouve (all 11.5% abv) All three reds were very lovely, with a nice full-mouth feel, good structure and a lingering but not heavy finish. The Trovato had a very lush bouquet, and OK legs. It's an easy drinking wine especially in the summer. The Adamo was my friends' favorite - it's nicely complex and bolder on the palate. My and the S.O.'s favorite is the Trouve (true-veh). It's a wine that really opens up in the glass - the owner suggested we linger over it as it goes on its own journey from corking to close. This was true and quite exciting to experience. At corking, it opens bright, after breathing it matures to more mellow notes and nuances...and at the bottom of a couple glasses it's just damn good! It's truly quite nice on the finish, not tannic but rich and lingering. You can detect notes of the barrel from the middle to the end and can appreciate the different aspects that emerge. Try this, it's fun! The Trouve is a wine made to be paired with food - this too brings whole new elements to the experience (unlike some wines that leave me lacking despite the claims). The antipasto plates are generous, the cheeses are the perfect compliment to the wines created by Via Vecchia. How does one make a winery in the middle of a brewery district, in a 150 year old or so building that has previously housed dance clubs and more atrocities? That's a good question. You do it by hand, with your own talent and tears. We were here for a wine comedy tour and the event location was really nice. The bourbon barrels throughout the space was really pretty and they had decorated for the Christmas time. Even though the comedians weren't very good the wine was perfect. We sampled every wine they had available and to be honest they were all really good and drinkable. The flavors were spot on and the price was comparable to other local wineries in town. You were able to purchase a bottle and take it to your table without issue, which is sometimes tough to do at a local winery event. Most of the time they want you to buy their glasses and take the bottle with you home. This was a nice change of pace and we are looking forward to visiting further events at this place. read more

Came by to check out a new place. Absolutely perfect oasis in South Columbus. The courtyard is huge, has adorable string lights and greenery. The inside is also huge and has great character. Would be a perfect event space. The bartender (owner?) was super friendly and talked us through tasting each red. I had my faves but all were very drinkable and tasty. I didn't even know Via Vecchia existed until I went here for Music in The Round thanks to Yelp. I believe Via Vecchia is now special events only, which it's perfect for that. They did a great job with set up. All staff was friendly and helpful. They could have done a better job educating people on the bars, bathrooms, and drink tickets at the door, but when I messed up and used a drink ticket at the wrong bar, the staff didn't make me feel dumb and still got me my drink. It was a moment that made me really feel like this place has class. As for events, I don't think Via Vecchia is perfect for all events. It has a lot of industrial elements that makes it unique. I really did not like the metal railing along the top level. Trivial, I know, but if you're going for a certain look.... On to their wine. It was fine. Better than some other wineries in town for sure, but I am no connoisseur. It was a little pricey for my unexperienced Barefoot wine drinking pallet. Unfortunately The only reason why this gets one star is because I had to give it one to post a review. As others have previously stated the venue itself is very beautiful. That's where the compliments end. However the respect, communication and treatment of my family and the wedding party were not only unprofessional but insulting. We were treated as an inconvenience even though we paid for the venue and the staffs services. I have never experienced a more poor display of customer service than at Via Vecchia. You do not want this place to have control over one of the most important days of your life. Here is a list why I would not recommend having your wedding here. 1. Communication between the owners and staff to the bridal party/wedding planner was horrendous. Prior to the wedding there were several conversations about what the bride and groom were looking for such as having their dog as part of the ceremony. It was originally approved by the owners. After signing a contract and paying for the venue the owners retracted their previous agreement saying it was not allowed and they "got caught up in the moment". 2. A small fridge was stocked with alcohol in the "bridal suite" upon arrival to the venue. The bridal party was enjoying the beverages and we were threatened that they would kick everyone out because the alcohol was "not permitted". We removed the alcohol anyway (even though it had their labels on it). Then when we attempted to get a cocktail at the bar prior to the ceremony they wouldn't serve us. The alcohol, that was paid for by the bride and groom, was not allowed to be consumed. They continued threatening us saying they would kick everyone out if they caught us with alcohol in the back. 3. The Friday before the wedding we planned for the rehearsal. We were given a half an hour to practice with a hard stop at 5:30pm. The reason for the hard stop was that the owners had dinner reservations with their family they had to make so we were required to leave the premises by then wth no previous notification. 4. The bride and groom received a gift of champagne glasses to toast during speeches. At one point those glasses were removed and hidden because it was "forbidden" to have champagne as they had not ordered champagne for the wedding. When the bride and groom were asked for an alternative beverage to put in the glasses they were scolded for their choices and said it would not be accommodated (groom wanted whiskey). 5. In the middle of the reception we were told that all of the decorations that were set up for the wedding had to leave the property by closing (12am) with no prior warning or conversation. 6. There were threats made to bride and groom during the wedding over nonpayment when they in fact paid in full. There was absolutely no professionalism displayed throughout the entirety of the planning process including the day of the wedding. I honestly don't even know how they've stayed in business or have worked with brides in the past. read more

This place is a hidden gem of Columbus. We went for a wedding and the owner, Michael, was very informative and helpful. I cannot drink red wine due to the sulfites (even organic gives me instant, terrible headaches). He assured me that because their red wine sulfite levels are below organic standards that I would not get a headache... He was right. I have not drank red wine in years due to this and I now have a go to red wine. All of the wines I tasted were well flavored, not too sweet, not too dry, and well balanced. We will be only purchasing this red wine in the future! The wedding and reception went well. The staff was great and the ambiance is even better. No added preservatives, no sulfites, and no artificial flavorings or yeast. Just good old fashioned process of letting the grapes do what they do. These folks even recycle their "leftovers" for other processes such as grape skins turned into soaps, the barrels have been crafted into soap dishes and display stands. How awesome is that. I really appreciated the Trovato as a nice start for red. As a primarily white wine drinker...this was exceptional! Bravo guys! read more

Choose Via Vecchia, where the owner will send nasty emails to your coordinator without CC'ing you, will go back and forth on agreements and repeatedly email your mother the morning of the wedding about bills she already paid! Your guests will have a blast as you cry in their green room (But make sure you don't bring in any of the alcohol that you brought with you in your limo because they'll threaten to kick you out repeatedly) One star is too generous. read more

I recently visited Via Vecchia for a friend's wedding and it's definitely a beautiful venue for an event. The decorations, lighting and atmosphere made for a very romantic wedding reception. It's nice that they make the wines themselves and they have a beautiful space, but I was a little disappointed because the wine is a bit lacking. I didn't really care for it, and that seemed to be the consensus for multiple people I conversed with throughout the evening. Not that it was bad, by any means, but it just wasn't very good, and since they don't allow liquor in the venue (only wine and beer) it affected the overall experience. read more

Beautiful building, great background for the pictures we've seen thus far. Michael (owner) was pleasant to interact with in the planning process, however Paolo seemed annoyed the one time we met him (to do a second walk through with parents). The guests commented the bar was great. We were disappointed by a few factors: You are charged a service fee of 20% of the catering bill even though you are only allowed to use two caterers (for other venues we only saw this fee if you were brining in an alternative caterer outside of the venue). The service fee of 10% for the venue is based on the final bar bill, so you are negatively impacted if you elect for top shelf or additional alcohol purchases. It seems basing this charge on number of people or vendors seems more fair. The roof leaked in several places on the day of the wedding, including directly on the band's keyboard and on guest tables. The tables had to be moved due to leaks, making some spaces tighter than they already were. I wasn't aware of the issue until I walked into the venue minutes before cocktail hour. I think the venue would benefit from hiring an event coordinator as a direct point of contact for planning. Some of the issues with fees would have made our decision to probably not hold our reception there, however we were novices for wedding planning so it is our fault for not having a better understanding. read more

Our wedding at Via Vecchia was fantastic and we are so glad that we chose this venue for our big day. Michael was a tremendous help, he went above and beyond throughout the whole night (he was literally walking around to tables asking our guests how they were doing) and we were so grateful for for his help. A couple more notes on this venue: 1) We did our ceremony inside. It wasn't raining but the temp was right at 60 and the alley had a constant breeze running through it so we made the call that day and are very glad that we did. If you are on the brink about an inside or outside wedding there you won't be disappointed if it is inside, the setup was perfect. 2) This venue is gorgeous. I really don't think I need to say more here, it basically sells itself, we looked at about a dozen or so venues and as soon as we walked into Via Vecchia we were sold, immediately. 3) The owners are fantastic. I will say, they are not easy to get ahold of and we basically had to chase them down to book our event but Michael was so helpful and did his best to make our day perfect. He was great. My mind was at ease all night knowing that he was taking care of everything. I would recommend this venue to anyone, nothing went wrong for our night and it was perfect. I wish I could give this place a higher rating than 5 stars because it honestly could not have gone better. read more

Although the venue was gorgeous for our wedding, we would not recommend Michael and Paolo at Via Vecchia as your venue. There was a clear lack of communication between the two owners! Our contract clearly stated a portion of the fees paid was for free guest parking and a parking attendant. On the wedding day, there was no parking attendant, guests were paying for parking when they weren't expected/required to, and it was brought up to Paolo a dozen times during the reception. He did nothing to correct the issue. We requested a refund and were promised a check, but we're still waiting. Don't let the beautiful venue fool you! read more

They denied simple requests that they had previously approved of, and acted like they hadn't. They yelled at the bride and brought her to tears on her wedding day. Every year my company has an awards banquet and this year was no exception. We had it at Via Vecchia the week before Thanksgiving like we always do but this year it was extremely different. We were served food that looked like it came out of a box. We got pinwheels and boxed desserts. In addition the shrimp we were served must have been bad because myself and other co-workers were sick that night and even had diarrhea from the food. I could tell this was not Scotts catering because we always got hot food from him. I know the normal food because he has done it the last 4 or so years. I don't know who it was, but it was disgusting. Also the owner had nothing better to do than sit on his cell phone the entire time we were around. It was rude. I hope we skip next year if this is what we are going to get. This place is not what it used to be. AVOID it at all costs. read more

The exposed brick walls, original concrete floors, and open ceiling allow this historic space to maintain a modern influence. The space is so inherently stunning that your decoration needs will take on a whole new focus--you only need to highlight this space, not cover it up. I promise, let the venue breathe and act as the primary focus for all of your accented touches. You won't regret it! The barrel room adds and additional and almost secretive charm, acting as the perfect space for a cocktail hour or photo op arena. And for a winter wedding or just for a reception that fades into the twilight hours, the alleyway with dazzling string lights are an unforgettable experience. Whether you're exiting with a sparkler send off or just taking in the night air with your new spouse, there is no better place to soak of the magic of that moment! And on top of all of this--the impossible perfection of this space--you have an incredible staff who will go above and beyond to make you happy, clarify any point of confusion, correct any error (though there are few, if any ever made), and make your day flow effortlessly. Just one example of many, but it may be my favorite: the night of our wedding, my husband and I left the venue clean up to the venue and our closest family members. Of course, our family didn't keep track of everything we brought or where we put it. Unfortunately, we left a few things behind. What happened? Paulo and Michael made sure nothing was ever left unsecured. In fact, after cleaning the venue and setting up for a wedding the next day, Paulo noticed the uncollected items, remembered where my husband and I were staying that night, packed up anything left behind, and brought the items, safe and secure in boxes provided by the venue, to the hotel at 3am. He made sure the hotel placed our items in a secure location and delivered those items to us at a reasonable hour. Throughout the stress of wedding planning, there was never a doubt in my mind that we had found the place that we would cherish as "ours" forever. We tried this place with a Groupon certificate. YUMMY! You just fall in love with the wines, the people and the experience. It's a great place to stop with friends before or after dinner and split a bottle of wine and an antipasta plate! Here's some tips to make it the best possible experience. 1. Make a reservation - (they are only open on weekends, but they also host weddings, so you want to make sure they are open!) 2. Either go before dinner or after dinner - the antipasta plate is wonderful - best salami i've ever had - not too salty with some great cheeses! (One suggestion - maybe add a chocolate/fruit option, as well. Love some wine with my chocolate!) 3. Call for directions before you go. You'll never find it if you don't know where it is (the old ludlows.) Keep in mind a few things: 1. These are NOT ohio grapes (thank goodness!) - so don't be expecting Ohio sweetness. 2. You're paying for a small local owned wine (bottles are about $25 each) but well worth it for flavor and the organic unfiltered quality. They hardly use any sulfites either so DRINK UP! They're expenses are higher, but the quality of the wine makes up for it. You can purchase their wine at Whole Foods - but treat yourself to meeting the winemakers. It's wonderful! read more

The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because I was only there for a wedding and did not really experience the whole winery/restaurant aspect as opposes to a special event. As for the way they do weddings, though, it was gorgeous!! My sorority sister got married outside, in the alley behind the winery. It was beautiful and the evening ceremony had perfect weather. White lights were strung above the seats and it was very hip and trendy. The only thing I wish they had were more seats for the guests. After the ceremony, we walked through the back entrance to a dark room, perhaps where they store the wine? I am not sure as I was too busy socializing and drinking their delicious wine and sangria. After cocktail hour, we were allowed to enter the main dining area, which was awesome. It had levels of round tables and a railing that went around the dance floor, which was lower than the other seating. The DJ, dessert bar, drink bar, and photo booth were set up in perfect locations! It was a tad crowded getting through the tables and the dance floor was just a concrete floor, which killed my feet. But overall, it was a magical event with a great vibe to it. I cannot say enough about this venue. I recently had my wedding here and I felt that it was a dream come true. We had so many compliments from our guests. The beauty of the venue itself is enough to wow others, but then you add the food and people were blown away. The food was delicious! And the staff were amazing to work with throughout the process. Sean helped us the night of the event and he was so sweet and amazing. The staff were able to keep people happy and everything on schedule. The venue is lovey but the owner, Michael, is just awful to work with. I paid $600 for two bartenders and got one. This meant lines at the bar all night. Michael spent the entire night on his phone while my guests stood in line. I tried for months to reach him and Lindsey about the wine and never got a response. Now I see Lindsey E. giving them 5 stars. Is that professional. An employee posting a review. The day before the wedding we were allowed to setup. I went into Michael's office to ask about the wine. He was on the phone but I waited. I explained that I was spending thousands on wine I had not tried. His response was to take another call. Before we left he finally came out of hiding in his office and offered to sell me a bottle of wine! The nerve! Then he said he'd give me a deal if I paid cash. The deal $25 a bottle. The sign posted at the bar said wine was $24. Some deal. He was arrogant, condescending and rude. He spoke to the wedding party like they were children. He told us the guestbook would be on a table by the front door. Not done. Not one guest signed the book that was custom done! The favors that cost over $300 were not put out. Half my guests were gone by the time I discovered this. This place may be lovely but the high costs, mediocre wine and horrible service are not worth it. Run away very fast. read more
