Came to Paso to do tasting and visited Via Vega on the recommendation of my neighbor. Walked into a one of a kind experience, greeted by the owner and made to feel at home immediately. Larry share his knowledge of wine and life stories throughout our visit. The wines were great, the whole day of the dead atmosphere was over the top and a great part of the visit. The port wine tasting was the best. Got both an October and a bottle of La Perla. The four of us had a great time. Highly recommend this place. If you have a large group or expect to arrive near closing, respect that this is a family business, call first and make arrangements with them. He is there working to give you a great experience, but has family when the tasting room closes. Check out all the skeletons, bobble heads and the airstream tiki bar. The first thing I have to say is that Larry and his wife are pretty much the best people ever!!! We took the Wine Line and I let them suggest wineries for our large group. This was the first Jason suggested. He said the owners were amazing and he was right. This was our 3rd stop and we definitely needed a pick me up. Our 2nd winery was such a bore we were all getting sleepy. Larry did not let us down. He started us off with a couple of tastings and amazing stories and the walked us into the hangers where we got to taste fresh wine out of the big barrel (no idea what to call it). We went back in and enjoyed some pink floyd/ Wizard of Oz and we even were able to steal some sombreros for a group photo. When our time was up we were so sad. Next time we will book this winery for 2 reservations. I came home with 4 bottles of wine and I am bummed I did not get more. I will be joining the club ASAP. Thank you so much Larry!! A must stop for anyone visiting the Paso Robles, California wine region. Our visit this past Sunday afternoon was by far the highlight of our 4-day trip. We must have visited with Larry and April for 2+ hours and learned a ton about Merlot! Larry's wines are without a doubt my favorite in the area. It's amazing what he can do in a small but very productive space. Be sure to try the Zin and Merlot, oh and the Syrah, and the Port, and everything else on the list. What a Blessing to be able to drink wine produced with so much knowledge and passion. One of the best parts: unlike some of the big corporate wineries in the area I could actually afford Larry's wine. Before I begin, if you are headed to Via Vega be sure to not pass it!! They have a zoo right next door and the animals distracted us and we drove right past it!! But turned around and found it, thankfully!! Not only is the wine great the atmosphere is perfect for couples, families (kids included) or large groups. I first noticed the small sign on my way to another winery last September. Unfortunately they were closed but the little sign caught my eye and I made sure to check to see if it was open this time around. It was and we had a WONDERFUL time! The winemakers are very knowledgeable and fun. I bought a bottle of their desert wine but made sure to join their Bullpen Wine Club. We stayed for hours chatting and tasting and looking around. They also allow dogs which is always a bonus for us. The owners are a husband wife duo and their children (who are also wonderful). You appreciate the vino that much more knowing so much love goes into making it. If you want good wine and great company - check out Via Vega! I am a wine connoisseur. I visited and tasted in Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles, Terra Bella, Techapi, Malibu, and Temecula. By far Via Vega is still my #1 favorite place! Larry Gomez who is the winemaker and owner of this place along with his wife miss April who is always so sweet and nice. Larry has worked many years with big corporate vineyards with his last stop at the most famous J Lohr. Larry and his wife April are very family orientated people. If you bring your kids Larry will put on a movie for them so you can wine taste with no problem. So for me and others it is very easy to fall in love with the Gomez family and the Via Vega Wine! The Wine is the best that I have ever tasted in ALL OF MY tasting throughout California or any other area. They have all reds and a couple of award winning ports! He has introduce me to one of my favorite grape which is Aglianco and it is amazing! He also has a CAB that is great, Merlot that is terrfic, Blends that are so smooth, Malbec that you have never tasted before, and many others that will at worst score 4 out of 5. I have visited Paso 5 times which the area alone to me is my favorite because of the wonderful reds and the great hospitality. So far I have never missed a time yet of not visiting Via Vega. Via Vega customer service to me is an A+. Every time that I have came Larry is always behind the bar finding a spot for me and my guest. My glass has always had some goodness with a great story. He always answers my questions with more than just an answer but wonderful wisdom. He has always taken me and any guest to the back to taste out of his barrels or steal which is such a great experience. In all Larry to me is a genius and very knowledgeable about wine. He will go in great lengths to please everyone for their palate. I have seen this many of times. Now that I am thinking about it every time that I have visited everyone has always bought at least bottle or 2! I am also a wine member of this wonderful place along with 4 other of my friends and/or family that I have taken throughout the years. In summary Paso is the best area to be in to wine taste. I went on a wine tour on my birthday, and after two "Meh" stops we were brought to this jewel.This winery takes the pretension out of wine tasting. Larry is informative and funny in his presentation. He gave my group a tour of the winery, which is also a small production facility! He bottles in house! As for the wine, WOW! Los Amigos and the Bullpen were among my favorites. We stumbled on this gem of a winery after taking the tour of the Wolf rescue facility across the street while we were out on a bike ride. The wolves and hybrids are really interesting to see and learn about...but Via Vega Winery is a real treat. We got there about a half hour before closing on a hot day...a small tour bus had just left with a load of obnoxious tourists who had their fill before they got to Via Vega...and then there were only the other people left in the tasting room. It was like a giant sigh of relief for everyone...the winemaker Larry and his wife never skipped a beat. They served excellent wines told great stories and showed us around. Larry is a huge SF Giants fan and had the game going on a huge projection screen tv above front bar. After a while he took us to the bottling building to see his collection of banners and other memorabilia. Then back to the tasting room for more stories and beat wine. He is a great story teller and an even better winemaker...and a nice guy. He even offered to personally drive us and our bikes back to where we were staying. Talk about service! Above all they are fantastic people...and it is truly like they are welcoming you into their home. The fact that they make great wine is the icing on the cake. read more

As they're not part of some huge multinational corporate behemoth who value quantity over quality, they are able to make amazing, small batch wines. Besides producing some absolutely outstanding wines, their passion for wine, customer service (and life) are unparalleled.
