Roper Romp for my 50th Birthday at Via Vega. Thank you Larry & April for a superb visit with exceptional wines!

Our visit was on July 12, 2024. Somehow I managed to convince 14 of my family and friends to dress up like Helen Roper for my 50th Birthday in Paso Robles. We had an amazing experience with Larry and April. Loved the stories about each taste, we really got a good sense of the love these two have for winemaking and sharing it with friends. I am so glad we came, our other wine tastings for our long weekend we constantly compared to this visit. Everyone said Via Vega was the best visit we had!

    Excellent wine!

One of the best wine tastings I've ever been to. Larry and April, the winemakers, are super knowledgeable. Where else will you find a tasting with the wine makers themselves?! Super fun and super interesting. Learned a ton, drank lots of great wine, and had a great time.

A friendly pup. . .Dobby. I hope I'm spelling that right. Very laid back and friendly.

This is off the beaten path but well worth finding it and checking it out. By appointment only right now. We appreciate their caution and safety measures. WE'VE DONE THE BIG NAME VINEYARDS BUT THIS WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF OUR TRIP! Don't miss it. Call for an appointment; you'll be glad you did.

Thank you so much Larry and April for the personal wine tastings.. wonderful way to celebrate our 40th..

Via Vega winery is a jewel. Larry and April are great and Larry's knowledge and love for wine makes this a must while wine tasting in Paso Robles. Their wines are organic and delicious. The price is great. Reserve a time to go and enjoy this one if a kind experience.

Stopped in on Friday and really enjoyed this place. Larry was very funny and informative and it is well worth a stop in to try and buy the wines. The tasting fee is $5.00 and waived on purchase which we got a bottle of the Bullpen Red which is 85% Cabernet Franc, 9.5% Merlot and 5.5% Aglianico for around $20 something....can't remember but around there. Larry had too many funny stories so I just handed him my credit card....hmmm, better check it....lol. Go there and enjoy.

Found my way back to Paso, and had to stop by Via Vega, again. The wines are fantastic, and the tasting included some aged reserve wines. We purchased a few of our favorites, including a port style dessert wine ... that I previously said was "the best in California", but now think is better that those in Porto, Portugal. So I will declare it the best! The atmosphere is very much your friend's backyard. Fun conversations, true wine enjoyment, a little chaos, and no pretentious attitudes. The family owners, operators, and winemakers make you feel welcome. We had a special musical performance from the winemakers' daughter, who provided the perfect backdrop to wine tasting. Really lovely music.

Via Vega has a lot of character for a smaller farm and well worth a visit. Wine ages well and the white port is outstanding. Thanks April.

The history alone is enough to get you through the door, but the wine is what keeps you there. Pair the tasting with all the stories behind the winery, and it's easily one of the more interesting experiences in Paso. The staff is also incredibly friendly and makes you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. The patio is a beautiful spot to taste, and if you're there later in the day, the sunset views are hard to beat. Definitely do the free cave tour while you're there. It's one of the coolest winery tours I've been on. The caves are a massive labyrinth carved into the hillside and naturally stay around 55 degrees year round, which is where they age a lot of their wine before bottling. Even if you've been to a lot of wineries, this is something a little different. At the time I'm writing this, tastings are still complimentary, which is almost unheard of these days. If you go, do them a favor and leave with a bottle or two. That's how places like this are able to keep offering experiences like this, and honestly, you'll probably want to take some wine home anyway.

Our first stop when we arrived in Paso. We've been to so many wineries, this would be one of our top 10. The spice pairing is unique but pairs so well with the wine. Buy 3 bottles to waive the fee. Since it's more of boutique, the bottles are quite pricey, mostly ranging near the 100s. But it was our favorite the whole weekend we went there. And we bought 6 bottles. We loved the spell and got 3 bottles of that! It's a Syrah cab blend. Has the Paso flavor that we love. It's not a vineyard, just a tasting room but worth a visit. We met the wine maker too.
