Great little tasting room tucked away from the touristy hub-bub of the businesses on the park, but walking distance from all downtown Paso Robles has to offer. Hayseed is one of several cool hangs in a little complex of tasting rooms on the back side of pine street businesses. Holly was laid back, friendly, and informative. She explained to us with a visual aids how her sparkling wine is produced and talked us through each wine on the tasting menu ($15 to taste, waived with 1 bottle purchase! Basically unheard of cheap for the area). We even received a fun bingo sheet to interactively identify nose, flavor and texture notes of each wine on the menu. The bingo sheet is curated by the owner/winemaker and his wine loving friends, and was an entertaining accompaniment and informative to check your picks off of the winemaker's notes. Oh, and as an added bonus, each wine is paired with a local charity with partial proceeds from purchase going to that charity. Feels good to be supporting a good cause. I will be back! read more

What a great concept! I saw the signs for Garage Winery just off the Paso Robles square. I told my husband, that's the one we want to go to, and I wasn't wrong. This little wine tasting shop was a garage with a roll up door and everything. It was a little rainy and cool, but the heaters were on and we were comfortable. The wine was great and we were impressed with how they donate to several different entities. Each type of wine was linked to another charity and the labels matched them. When visiting Paso Robles, my wife and I wanted to find small, boutique like tasting shops and Hayseed and Housdon seemed like the place to be. The server was really nice and took us on a journey on their tasting menu. While the wines were really tasty, what really sold us on them was how the owner donates a portion of their profits to different charities in the community. What a splendid idea and one I'm all for. The dude and I came here on 01/10/21 to celebrate my yelp adventures and wanting to do some wine tasting to celebrate my GOLD status as my 700th review is already written. We were greeted by Ted the owner of this lovely craft winery. We decided to take a walk around Downtown Paso Robles Park and so glad we did as we stumbled upon Hayseed and Houdson accident as we had our heart set on another winery by Fish Gaucho but while walking we saw this beautiful signage and the dude and I without speaking to one another knew this would be the spot I get my wine tasting on and proceeded to find this establishment. We felt like a detective as we on the hunt to find this place and we we almost couldn't find this hidden gem and was gonna turn back but we found it and walked into thus lovely Craft garage. The owner Ted was so knowledgeable about his products and only been in the wine business for 5 years which is impressive. He has a lovely back story which I won't spoil it for you at all! Very kind and engaging and love his humor. You can tell he takes pride in his craft wine. I seriously LOVE his wine. He was out of the Rose when we came and I told him that must be a goof thing especially during the pandemic however he will be bottling the Rose in a month or so! Exciting as I want to come back and try it. The wine room was so clean and beautiful and very spacious. For the big bulk of our personal wine tasting with the owner it was just us and about towards the end 4 or 5 people came in which was nice to see! My favorite on his list was the Steel Reins which was a Chardonnay and usually most Chardonnays are pretty bitter! However this one and the other one we tried was so delicious not bitter at all and each had unique flavors! Definitely delicious. We tried two reds. Usually reds are so dry and bitter (not counting my favorite Stella Black) so I didn't have high hopes but the reds were seriously to my liking! Not too sweet, crisp, and not dry. Very tasty and tolerable for sure. Tasting is about $10 per person and you get to taste 5 wines. If you buy a bottle of wine the tasting fee is waived only one for us. We ended up getting the Steel Reins Chardonnay to add to my growing wine collection. The owner Ted is associated with several non profits and each bottle purchased half of the process goes towards a certain organization. The bottles are all so cute and signage is gorgeous too! The bathrooms are clean and tidy too! Overall, it was such a lovely experience and to celebrate my yelp adventures. I highly recommended to give this winery your business and plus each bottle purchased half proceeds goes towards such amazing causes! read more

We walked in here since we kept seeing signs that said "Garage wine tasting." $10 tasting for 6 wines sounded like a great deal. All the wines were ok. We are kind of wine snobs...There's a wine bingo game on the back of the tasting menu. It was fun to guess the smell, flavor, and texture. There's only seatings inside the garage but the garage door is open. 1 restroom inside. We saw that they had a lot of coupon deals to other tasting rooms and wineries so definitely get some coupons. We wouldn't have known about Hayseed and Hudson if it weren't for Deb from Diablo Paso down the street. When we walked in, the place seemed very chill and unassuming. We were greeted by Ted who we didn't realize until later that he's actually the WINEMAKER! He was so sweet and not pretentious. Often times I feel like you can encounter pretentious ppl in the wine industry. As people who love wine but aren't super educated on it, it really felt like a warm and fun environment to be surrounded by. The winery contributes profits to local nonprofits which is so cool. We actually ended up deciding which bottle we wanted based on the nonprofit it benefited because we couldn't make a choice. The wines were all too good and they are really generous with their pours/tastings. What's also fun is they do a "bingo" where you guess the nose/tasting notes/texture. We learned a lot and had fun doing it! Couldn't recommend coming here enough. You'd miss it if you didn't know it was there, so make the effort to find it! read more

While putting together a Paso trip, I stumbled across this little wine garage so we added it to our list. Boy I'm glad I did. The vibe is so different from other places, just a lot more relaxed. Its a small but intimate space. There was no one else there so we had plenty of 1 on 1 time with the winemaker himself, guiding us through each wine and each story. When we arrived the tasting room was empty. We had a party of 4 plus a baby and were able to choose the lounging area in the back. The owner (?) poured us 4 different wines- excuse my dust, pray for love, la macha, and one I don't remember but was a substitue for a sold out wine. The owner was super personable and spent time talking to us about where the wines were from, their charitable work, and just about the area in general. After we were done tasting he also let us revisit 2 of our choice. The tasting room is small but doesn't feel cramped or anything like that. My little one was able to roam pretty freely without really being in anyone's space for too long. We left with two bottles and definitely enjoyed our visit. read more

But when they said that it was a fun wine spot that produced some great wine, I knew I had to add it to this list of spots to check out. I found this winery online and decided to try it with 4 others after my birthday dinner. We finished dinner early and Ted let us get seated before our reservation time. Ted is a wonderful host, and the owner, who took his time with all of the customers and did not rush you when he was with you. The bingo game was fun! Amazing place with an extremely knowledgeable owner. We tried this the first time last year because there was a sign point down an alley about a garage tasting room. Sounds sketchy and amazing, sounds like a great adventure. Turned out to be not so sketchy but still an amazing experience. The owner was so knowledgeable about the different types of wine, and could explain the mouth feel, taste, and process so well. He was very friendly. Ended up back there a year later and bought a bunch of wine because it is just so good, and had such a great time talking with the owner. Gonna have to make this a regular thing. This is great place and the people there are always so wonderful! We like to stop there for a tasting when we are in town.

First of all, the wines are great and you can feel good about your purchases because 50 percent of the profits go to local charities! Ted also sometimes allows private events in his perfect downtown space. We were able to have a pre wedding meet and greet for 70 people in his tasting room. With the large door open some of us spilled out to the back area which was very comfortable on a balmy fall night. Our guests enjoyed trying four different wines and celebrating the wedding couple. Ted and Holli were great to work with. Holli staffed our event and made everyone feel welcome as she poured wine and gave information about the different varietals and blends in each wine. Ted is very personable and is well versed in winemaking and hospitality. His wine selections are varied enough to be able to find something that will please almost anyone's palate.
