This is a gem of a tasting room located in downtown Paso Robles! They serve beer, wine, and cider. But it doesn't stop there... their pizzas are to die for!! The menu changes based on the chefs desires but when we came in we had a Tri Tip sandwich that was melt in your mouth good. This was a nice little theme winery with from what I remember hearing the owner has a cattle ranch. The inside of the place was rustic with a number of places to sit inside and you could also sit outside on a large patio area. There were even two seats that were saddles and yes, I did sit in one having lived in Texas when I was young it just made sense. We watched Bonanza on a tv overlooking the bar as our pourer gave us great pours that were accompanied by a cheese pairing, the platter of cheese and two tastings for $15 was a bargain. I really enjoyed the Iron Oaks House which was a blend, the Poolside Drama which is a Grenache and Barbera blend and then the Hard Cider that came out nice and cold from the tap. We visit Paso at least twice a year to go wine tasting and I must say I'm surprised it's taken us this long to come across Iron Oaks! It's conveniently located in downtown Paso so it's very easy to get to especially if you're having lunch there and/or visiting other tasting rooms. My SO and I stumbled upon it because the tasting room we intended on going to was closed. We didn't really have any expectations when we first walked in, but boy it was not what I was expecting for a tasting room. It was December when we visited and it was like a cow boy threw up Christmas all over. But in a incredibly homey, warm, and welcoming way. There were a few booths and stools by the bar, and the layout/decor made it feel more like a bar than a wine tasting room. We almost thought we were in the wrong place. It's dog friendly which is always a huge plus in my book! Doug, the owner and winemaker, is definitely one of a kind! He's hilarious and easily one of the most down to earth people you'll ever meet. We ended up doing a tasting and then opened up a bottle to enjoy there, cause we were having such a great time chatting with Doug. The wine was great too :) 10/10 would come again! It's one of the few tasting rooms that are open to 10pm on the weekend. read more

What a great little place we came upon for St Patrick's Day. Jessica was the bartender and she shared so much local knowledge with us. The Chardonnay had been turned green for the special day. That made it fun. They had Lucky Charms in a big glass for nibbling and she brought out a green cheese and bread snack plate to let us sample. The inside of the place is really comfortable. They have a nice bar and seating inside and outside. A couple of saddle chairs at the bar which of course I had to sit in for a while. Jessica totally made the time we spent there very special. Still not sure if my 50+ year old self is hip enough for the place, but the hubs and I gave it 'a go' anyway!! What a cool, rustic vibe this place has. It has a limited menu of wine, but all seem to be good choices. My rose' was crisp, light and refreshing. My husband's red blend was complex and delicious. This winery shares an extensive, multi floor outdoor area with a brewery (California Coast Beer company). The venue has two stages for live music, which occurs Friday to Sunday. We went on a Saturday, where they had one band coming in at 2:00 and a different one coming in at 6:00 p.m. There is a local restaurant (or food truck--not sure which) called Roots on Railroad) where you can order on-line and will deliver right to the site. The outdoor area is kid and dog friendly. We were on our way to eat somewhere else entirely when we came across this place. What a happy discovery though and we will definitely return (whether we're cool enough or not)! read more

Wine is delicious but the whole atmosphere is why it's 5 stars. My husband and I were driving through with our baby and decided to make a pit stop. It was a very slow week day so we were able to talk to the bartender/owner maybe? Anyhow, we were able to bring the baby inside while we hung out for a bit, ate some cheese and had a good wine tasting.
