The quaint little town of Front Royal is just right outside of Shenandoah National Park (North side,) and was the closest place we could find for lunch after a long morning of hiking. I could write a review on how charming the town is itself, but Vibrissa Beer is just as great! Although the town is quiet, this place gets busy! Thankfully though, we were able to be seated immediately when coming in at lunchtime. Their beer menu is more IPA and Ale heavy, so if that's your thing, you'll really enjoy what they have to offer. I tried the cider, which was dry and very enjoyable! Foodwise, the pretzel with cheese is a great app option... It's huge, fluffy and comes with the most delicious cheese and mustard sauces! I had the sweet chili burger and it was alright, probably wouldn't order it again. It didn't have much sweet chili sauce on it so it pretty much just tasted like a plain burger with carrots on it. Whether you're from here, stopping by Shenandoah or just in the area for whatever reason, Vibrissa Beer is a great place to stop in at! read more

Vibrissa Beer & Kitchen, formerly Front Royal Brewing is an interesting brewery in Front Royal VA.  To start, if you haven't been here before and you are not a local, you might think the place is closed, because the address entrance is on Main St. in Front Royal, but the real entrance is in the back and there is plenty of parking in the back.  So the take away is main entrance and parking is in the back. Decent beer is here.  It is more of a pub, bistro, restaurant.  There is a bar area to the right when entering and a restaurant area to the left.  They also have memorabilia in case you want to immortalize your experience. Sat at the bar and our bartender Dan was great.  They have some specialty drinks, wine, spirits, and of course craft beer.  I was slightly disappointed with the variety of beer.  Still KUDOS to the brewer.  You have something special going here. I love the Frickles, fried pickle goodness.  The frickles are a culinary delicacy.  Imagine kosher dill pickle slices lightly breaded and friend to perfection. I'm in love with the Frickles! The Beer: Vortex Imperial Stout 9.5% ABV... raspberry, chocolate and coconut, not my flavor profile, but if you like that combination, good? Compassion Hefeweizen 5.5% ABV... It's a hefe, but with a lot of lemon zest, also good, but not my favorite No Secret Altbier 4.3% ABV... easy drinking malty also good DDH Gracious Living  West Coast DIPA 8.3% ABV... love the mouth feel of this IPA, a little sweet and boozy, but the sweetness actually compliments the Hop intensity of this West Coast IPA North Bound DIPA 8.4% ABV... classified as a West Coast IPA and it really is, 5 different Hops with hoppy goodness Head Lamp West Coast IPA 7% ABV... this is the most well balanced IPA in the bunch. Wish they had more than just the West Coast IPAs, but this one is the BEST of the BUNCH So, would I go out of my way to visit Vibrissa Beer & Kitchen, probably not.  I did in fact though enjoy the experience. read more

Lived on Front Royal for 6 months for work. This was a staple with good eats, drinks, and friendly staff. My partner has celiac and the staff were super mindful about gluten free options and letting us know what could and couldn't be made gluten free. I even brought a friend who was thru hiking the AT and they gave him some trail magic in the form of free beer. read more

Ladies, gentlemen, and everyone in between -- gather 'round and let me tell you about the liquid magician behind the bar: Nick. Bartender? No. Nick is a cocktail sorcerer, a shaker-slinging sex panther in a snug black tee that defies the laws of fabric stretch. He doesn't just pour drinks. He pours experiences. I ordered a dirty martini, and he made it so filthy I needed a safe word. One flick of his wrist and suddenly I was contemplating bad decisions and good stories. Nick has a jawline carved by the gods and a pour count smoother than my last three relationships combined. He made eye contact while zesting an orange and I swear I ovulated. (I'm not even sure I can ovulate.) At one point he winked and asked, "You like it strong?" Sir. That was the moment I handed over my house keys and a list of my emotional triggers. By the end of the night, I was tipsy, blushing, and deeply in love -- with the old fashioned in my hand, and possibly Nick's forearms. I don't know what cologne he wears, but it smells like sin, leather, and freshly signed divorce papers. So if you're looking for a drink, a laugh, and the spiritual equivalent of being lightly spanked by a Greek god with a mixology license -- go see Nick. We were in the area and walking around downtown and stumbled upon this place. It shares a hallway with a bakery, which we went to after. The hallways smells like frosting from the bakery so that was nice. We went inside and sat at the bar. Hubby tried a few beers and I tried the stout because it said it tasted like s'mores. I settled on the lemonade with lavender and that was very refreshing. I got the frickles to eat, which are fried pickle spears. I normally don't like the fried pickle spears and prefer the rounds, but these were great. The breading to pickle ratio was pretty spot on so I was happy. The pickles on the inside were very hot though, so be aware of that in case you get these. Hubby was torn between the chicken sandwich or the Reuben, but the bartender recommended the Reuben over the chicken so he got that. I tried some of the meat and it was delicious. Really really good. Definitely recommend that as well. This was a cute place to stop for some snacks and drinks. Definitely recommend. read more

After a tiring hike you seem chilled beer. When or if I'm Front Royal, you have to and I mean you absolutely have to go to Front Royal Brewing Company. This place has an amazing selection of beer and has one of the best brewery foods ever. From their salads to their burgers, everything looks like from a fine dining restaurant. I have had their fried pickles, mushroom + Swiss burger and Southern Heat Burger (it was not spicy at all but full of flavor) with sweet potato fries. Perfect is the way for how they make their burgers. Phenomenal service by the staff. The servers have a great sense of humor and they are having such a fun time that you want to come again. Came here after a quick hike to refuel and ended up getting some old bay wings, the fall bowl (vegan) and a bacon cheeseburger. I didn't have the burger but the boyfriend seemed to really enjoy it. My bowl was really tasty and actually kept me full until way past dinner. What I was most impressed with was their "Fury" hot sauce which is house made and filled with tons of habanero peppers. It's one of the very few hot sauces from a restaurant that I've tried that was actually spicy! I even asked if they would sell me some but they don't bottle it yet. The wings were great and probably some of the best ones I've had in awhile. Overall, I really enjoyed the food but didn't care for the beer as much but we only tried two (Saison and the west coast IPA). Bottle your hot sauce! read more

I visited on a slow weekday and decided to sit outside; they have a small patio out back which seemed good for social distancing. The service was friendly. I ordered a flight and a Rueben. It may seem pretty standard bar fare, but it was a good sandwich! The flight options were IPA-heavy, but I did get the Saison, Siren of the Shenandoah Hef, the Raspberry-Lemonade Sour, and Milk Stout. The Saison and Milk Stout were hits. Not as much of a fan of the Hef, and while I didn't love the Sour that's more my palate than anything else (I prefer sour-y sours, not tart sours). lived in front royal for about a year and always passed by this brewery but it was during off hours when i would walk around the downtown area. went here with a couple of friends for some drinks pretty close to their closing time but we still got served and our watress was very nice! it's was pretty dope seeing how they ferment their own beer and you can see the actual tanks through a window in the inside of their restaurant! they have spacious outdoor seating as well where they play live music almost every night. ordered one of their fruity beers and i enjoyed the sweetness and tartness at the same time. split a hot fudge brownie with icecream and the gooeyness hit the spot. ultimate comfort food. overall, if you're ever in front royal a very small town in VA, definitely hit up this place for a good time after strolling in the cute downtown little area. read more

The people are great, the process is a nightmare. Came here after a 5 mile hike. Super kind staff but we waited more than 45 minutes for our food. The manager apologized and brought some free super crispy fries which we appreciated. Another family sat down and waited nearly 30 minutes without anyone clearing the table or getting their drink order. They waited patiently but finally got up and left. Put food arrived burnt and cold nearly an hour after we sat down. Waiter was a nice guy, made sure we tipped him well since it wasn't his fault but they really don't have a good system for keeping track of people and managing food orders. Just chaotic and super super slow. We won't be back. Although to be fair, the one in Winchester has always been great so it seems to be a location thing. read more

We stopped in for some light bites and beers and found almost the entire tap line to be empty. The brew house looks small, and hopefully people are drinking them into a good problem, but it was disappointing that they couldn't keep the board or draft list updated. It seems that they lean heavy into the lager side, which really isn't my interests, but they did have two of their IPAs in cans. The West Coast style IPA was decent in the can, no off flavors or unexpected notes. The brown ale I also tried was average, but more uninspired than disappointing. I did see that they won at GABF for a stout, but I was also cautioned that it's more of a dessert beer. On the food side, we got a couple of apps and really enjoyed them, so I'd say that the food here is more of a draw than the beer. The entire menu looked good and there were a few things that I think would satisfy a wide diversity of diners. On the negative side, this place draws a "regulars" crowd on weekend nights with all the positives and negatives one might associate with that. My wife felt very uncomfortable with some of the younger characters and their downright creepy locker room talk. I understand that's something the business can't really control, but we wouldn't really be interested in coming back. read more

Beautiful place, good beer, good service, and so why the 4 stars? I hate to say it but the price. Some items are pretty normal for an upscale brewery $16-17 for a burger but other things seem a bit expensive Bliss Bowl for $20 (basically a quinoa bowl with either tofu or chickpeas, avocado, cabbage slaw, radish, cucumbers, carrots and green goddess dressing). Beers are on the higher side but not outrageous $7-9. We had the Bavarian pretzel ($12), Bliss Bowl ($20) and the Mezze Gyro ($15). Everything was good especially the green goddess dressing and the addition of the artichokes in the Gyro. I would definitely go back but not with a huge appetite! Also kudos to them for helping support the thru hiker community with the Basecamp offering showers, washing machines etc. read more

I've been here twice, once as Front Royal Brewing and once as Vibrissa. Both times, service was wonderful and the food/drinks were great. On the second visit, we got margaritas and they were SO good. Amazing wings, and just ok beer. My wife and I stopped here for a quick bite and a beer after checking out the Shenandoah Park. The reviews were solid so we decided to give it a try. First off I really dug the vibe and decor on the inside. A modern update to a historic building. Service was pretty solid as well. The beer...was just about as mediocre as it gets. It was listed as a "NE-Milkshake IPA" and it tasted more like a flat heavy citrus West Coast IPA without the hop bitterness. I've had the best New England beers on the east and west coast and this thing didn't even compare. The wings however, were cooked exactly how I like them. Light and crispy on the outside, and juicy on the inside. Big fatty wings too, so the fact that you only get 8 doesn't let you leave hungry. Their house blue cheese lacked a lot of flavor and was pretty dull. I'm glad I tried it, but after seeing all of the other places in town, I would definitely check them all out before stopping here again. read more

The bakery on the way inside the restaurant has some nice pastries and jarred goods. The area for hikers to shower and get themselves back together was also nice and necessary for many in the area. This was a fun restaurant to stop for dinner. The happy hour specials are decent. I highly recommend the pork loaded fries! The Reuben sandwich was a little sad and on the small side. The ice cream sandwiches were pretty good. The ice cream lacked flavor but the cookies were quite good. The service was good. I probably wouldn't eat here again but it is a local favorite. read more

In town for a wedding and came across this place in a cute square area. Parking was easy, either snag a parallel spot or there's 2 hr. parking lots towards the center of the square. Food was amazing, party and I were having difficulty deciding what to get because it all sounded so good, so we got it what we couldn't pass up and it was fantastic. Our server was very welcoming as it was our first time and attentive! Also, whether your preference is liquor or beer, you won't be disappointed from their selections either. The building was a large bigger than expected, a lot of space; you able to have everything from a date night to a large group outing and won't feel crowded. Want to give one star but giving two because the fried pickles were good. Then it took about 15 minutes for the waiter to come back to take our food order. Then what felt like the longest wait for our food. I think it took about 45 minutes for a couple of salads and a chicken sandwich.
