We were given complimentary chips and salsa and then ordered some drinks that came with watermelon garnish. We shared the spicy mango ceviche and a cheese crisp for our appetizers. Both were delicious! The cheese crisp was very interesting! We opted for the spicy tiger shrimp fajitas for our entree. It's served with blistered peppers, charred onions, jack cheese, guacamole, salsa fresca, sour cream, choice of beans and tortillas. It was very tasty! We ended up trying frozen margarita and an agua fresca as well. The frozen margarita is so refreshing, especially on a hot summer day. For dessert, we got the tres leches cake and it was the perfect ending to our dinner.

The vibe of the restaurant was pretty dope. They have an outdoor seating area blended with indoor seating. The decor was stunning. I loved the wallpaper and light fixtures. The tunes were bumpin'. The restaurant wasn't surprisingly too busy and was pretty family-friendly. I was so excited to take a bite into my first CA tacos! As I settled in and opened the menu, full transparency: I was shocked to see the "happy hour specials: $7 tacos"... regularly $14!? Thinking these HAD to be next-level incredible, I stopped judging and ordered two "Birria" tacos, two "traditional Carnitas" tacos, and a "crispy shell Ground Beef" taco. We paired our tacos with their "Classic" house Margarita. Chips and salsa were brought to the table with our drinks, and we enjoyed those for a bit before the food came out. I wish I were writing this to report that I had the best tacos of my life, but sadly, that's not the case. The Birria taco had an excessive amount of untrimmed fat in the meat, which made each bite unpleasant and forced me to spit out pieces I couldn't chew. This made the overall texture unappealing and the experience disappointing. Not my preferred way to enjoy my tacos. I don't believe this was an issue of happy hour pricing, but rather poor food preparation. I was only able to finish one taco and took the other to-go. As for the traditional carnitas taco, it was okay but lacked anything that set it apart. I say this with kindness, but if you've had a TB crunchy taco supreme, you've tried this restaurant's crispy shell ground beef taco. The classic margaritas were strong and well made. We thoroughly enjoyed them! If you asked me, would I go back for seconds? I'd likely not reorder the tacos. For the price, I expected higher-quality preparation and presentation; instead, it fell short. Personally, I'm glad I visited during Happy Hour. I'd file this one under cool place for drinks and a light bite, if you must.

Dennise seated us and was so kind, she even shared a few of her favorite menu items since it was our first visit. Our server Anelle was great as well. She was friendly, attentive, and helped us pick some really good dishes. We tried the Tacos Dorados de Papa, El Sampler de la Abuela, and La Bomba, and for appetizers the Burrito de Machaca con Frijoles Puercos and the sweet corn tamal (which ended up being my favorite). The food and ambiance were great, but the service from Dennise and Anelle really stood out. They made our birthday brunch feel special.

Cramped and loud, but nicely decorated and serving solid authentic meals. Mexican Latte-9/10: Pretty straightforward. A solid, nostalgic spiced coffee. Mazapan Latte-10/10: A novelty menu item, both nostalgic and tasty. With a sweetened condensed milk rim and mazapan dust, this sweet coffee is a must order. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!

We started out with the Mexican street corn along with the chips and salsa. I've always had Mexican street corn that was on the cob, but I really liked it this way. Would definitely get it again because it was very good. We both ordered the spicy skinny margarita. Best skinny margarita I've ever had. Yum I ordered the traditional cheese enchilada because that's my go to for Mexican food. So good! The flavor was spot on. Lots of melty cheese. Everything was excellent and I would definitely be back when I'm in town.

This place has been a staple of ours, we've seen the different menu changes over a few years. We've done Cinco De Mayo, date nights, and brought family here. Unfortunately they got rid of our favorite chocolate cake (a few years ago) and we're still holding out hope they'd bring it back. We always get the short rib machaca cheese crisp, it's been a solid choice 6 years and counting. It's very crispy and comes with guacamole on top, but serves almost like a pizza. This time around we tried the birria taco and it was good, we even dipped our cheese crisp in the consumé. We tried the apple empanada, I'll definitely get it again. It's not too sweet and very crispy; a good sharing option where you can have one each! *Not pictured is the carafe of sangria we had. We almost always get it, if we don't get a margarita. They have outdoor seating and indoor seating. The outdoor has some umbrellas and lights. The booths inside aren't high backs, but still nice. Can get a little loud some nights, but nothing too crazy. Of note, if you're watching a movie at AMC they're still doing discount for your meal!
