While in search of a good brunch spot while in Charleston, I ran across Vicious Biscuit on Yelp. The Mount Pleasant location was closest to our hotel, so we chose to go . When we arrived on a Saturday around 12 noon, the line was out the door and all the way down to the end of the parking lot. We hesitated at first since it was 100 degrees outside and figured we would be waiting for a while, but then I figured the food must be amazing if so many people were willing to wait in line outside on a day that hot. The line actually moved quickly. Seating is first come, first serve both inside and outside, but you have to order first and have a number for your table before securing a seat inside the restaurant. By the time we arrived at the counter, we narrowed down what we wanted to order. We ordered the Crab Benny, Sea Biscuit, grits, fresh fruit, The Sweet Puppies, and fresh squeezed orange juice. There is a fixins bar which has sauces and a variety of butters which we tried several and all we enjoyed.When I say everything we had was delicious, it is an understatement. I am not even a fan of biscuits, but was taken back by how flavorful both of our meals were. The Sweet Puppies were soooo good, and since they are made of sweet potatoes, I felt a tad less guilty for totally blowing my diet during our visit. To top off our five-star brunch, the service was excellent. All the staff made sure that the guests were satisfied, we were even given great advice on places to visit during our stay in Charleston. Hopefully, they will open a Vicious Biscuit in Georgia so I won't have to travel long distance to try it again. read more

If you come on the weekend there is probably going to be a line, but don't let that detour you. Not only is this place well worth the wait but they are a well oiled machine and they move people through quickly. The team there is all amazing. The manager was out walking around checking on people, the bartender was hustling hard and everyone was doing it with a smile. It's a very welcoming environment. They ask that you order before you sit so you're not holding a table from someone who has already ordered. I appreciate this a lot and for the most part people respect the rule. The food is so good! I got the vicious and the chicken was perfect and tender and the gravy was delicious and I love cowboy candy (which is candied jalapeños). Its busy the entire time it's open but well worth any wait. We had the Chicken Bacon Ranch, the Fat Boy, Nashville Hot Chicken and the Vicious Beignets. When I say these were the best biscuits I have ever had, there is no exaggeration there. The only thing I was not wild about was the Vmosa, simply because I don't like cranberry juice. The surprise element of strawberry jam hidden under the fresh whipped cream was a delightful touch and complemented the dish wonderfully. I hate leaving negative reviews, so I'll start with the positive. My husband and I came here for breakfast on our trip. You walk up to the counter and order, and then find a table. The line moved pretty quickly, and we were able to find a table to sit. The food did take a bit of time to come out because they were pretty busy. I got a fresh squeezed orange juice, and it was the best orange juice I've ever had. It tasted like you were biting into an orange! On the other hand, I ordered the vicious beignets, and they were very disappointing. They were overcooked and hard and almost crunchy. It was so hard to even cut into them. There's supposed to be cream cheese stuffed inside, but they were so overcooked, there was nothing inside. I tried to eat them with the strawberries, jam, and whipped cream, but I ended up not being able to finish them. It was very sad as I was looking forward to them. I also got a side of breakfast potatoes, so that became my breakfast. My husband on the other hand had a great breakfast. They are supposed to come with strawberry jam, whipped cream and strawberries. The first time we didn't get whipped cream or strawberries. The second time only whipped cream and sauce. The beignets were so incredibly dense it was weird. They are supposed to have cream cheese inside but we couldn't tell. It was so dense it was difficult to eat and we did not enjoy them at all and couldn't even finish them. These were a miss both times. The other items were delicious and cooked perfectly. Couple that with, they split the biscuit and pour gravy in the middle and then put the top on and more gravy -- there is plenty of gravy for your delicious biscuits. They also offer lots of different toppings for your biscuits (butters, jellies). You order at the counter and they give you a number to place in the holder on the table. They bring your items when they are ready. Lots of seating and inside or outside options. At both locations we opted for outside (we are Oregonians and great weather can be scarce for us this time of year), my only complaint about this chain is that both locations the tables outside needed a pretty thorough cleaning. This was my first official meal in Charleston and it definitely did not disappoint! I ordered the chicken and waffle (forgot what the clever naming of it was called on the menu, haha). The sweet potato waffle was light and fluffy. The chicken was lightly breaded and cooked to perfection. Oddly enough the meal didn't feel too heavy! The jam and butter bar was also a nice experience. Stayed a few blocks from here on vacation and grabbed a quick brunch during our lovely time in Mt. Pleasant. I have a hard time not ordering a benedict when I see it on the menu and this visit was no different.
