It pains me to post a review of a place that I did not actually get to do business with. I called Vic's coin shop, asking about the process of selling some coins, as I've only acquired them in the past, and it was my first time looking to sell. The owner was impatient, and treated me like I was wasting his time. While I didn't get to transact monetarily, my experience was similar here to the first few times I went into some of the gun shops that have gone out of business today. I hold the position that it is absolutely reasonable to have a opinion on the business, if the owner isn't willing to spend the time with you to figure out if you're even a qualified customer, and blows you off and hangs up the phone, treating you as unimportant. I'm sure that Vic will see this and have something to say about it, but all I can tell you and response, is that if you want to have a good pipeline of business, you have to treat people as if they are going to be a potential valued customer for you until you learn that they are not. Vic's did not afford me that opportunity, and deserves this review. UPDATE subsequent to Vic's reply to my review: It was 100% you, and yes, that is what you told me, and as I described, you didn't allow for follow up questions and rushed me off the phone. As a regular of an adjoining business and a coin collecting enthusiast, I was looking forward to meeting you and seeing what your business was all about, but you've got to be more patient with someone asking questions. read more

I've been here a few times and in my opinion, Vic is an honest and fair broker. He is always very professional and meticulous and a rarity amongst others in his field. I just wish he didn't almost exclusively deal with only American coins but I can't fault him for that. read more

Like many of us, when my father passed away he left me with various and sundry things, including a stack of old coins. I don't really need more things rattling around my house, so i looked around for coin shops, read reviews, and headed over to Vic's. i definitely feel like i made the right choice. Vic walked me through everything, showing me how he was gauging value on all the coins (weight, current price of silver, etc), so it wasn't a huge mystery. He gave me value and worth, and when i was ready to sell he gave me a really fair price. He counted everything multiple times which I appreciated since it reminded both of us what i had and what was owed. I appreciated his attention to detail and transparency. I have another small collection of coins from my great aunt and once I have figured out what's there, i'll be going back to Vic for sure! It really helped to have someone trustworthy help me out with something I really don't have the first clue of how to deal with. read more

I walked & the shelves were completely empty giving me a weird vibe. Then Vic presented himself & we had a brief conversation. Vic doesn't seem like a bad guy but made it clear that buying silver from him was near impossible. He gave me the whole demand run around & that he sells out instantly. He also made it clear that he reserves his stock for his regulars & not walk-ins like me. I'm not quoting him word for word but that was the message I received. I even took his advice about calling in advance & that I could call when they first open. He discouraged my attempt of doing future business & recommended for me to check google for other places. I took his advice by going to San Jose Coin. SJC was the experience I was looking for! Plenty of stock & I got to hold each time prior to purchase. SJC is amazing! Conclusion, don't go to Vic's if your new stacking metals. Maybe he treats high rollers different but that's not a place for casual collectors. I was in the neighborhood with a coin that I had purchased from a 3rd party, I was hoping that the shop could help me determine if I indeed I purchase a 2ounce silver round. A nice gentleman helped me with authenticating my silver, long story short the Owner was the one helping me and authentic my silver, sad to say I really wish I could have bought some constitutional silver today. I went to this coin shop a few years ago to sell some SIlver coins that I had saved up and Vic gave me a fair price on them so I decided to do business again with him today. Today I had 9 2021 American Silver Eagle coins I wanted to sell and Vic bought them all for 3 dollars over spot, so I made 27 dollars off of them which I thought was pretty good and a lot better than I thought I was going to make. Vic is a nice guy that seems to enjoy what he does and he doesn't fool around. The only thing I didn't like is that he didn't give me a receipt for my sale, which makes me think anybody can go in there and sell whatever for whatever they're asking for and that's why I'm giving his establishment only 4 stars. I walked into Vic's and the first thing was: wow, it's darn cold in here! The AC was cranked up to max and it felt like an icebox. Not pleasant way to start! Second thing was: holy cow, there's nothing here on the shelves or in the cabinets. As one other review said: A Coin Store with No Coins? I had a bad feeling now... something is weird here. I had a large amount of silver coins left to us by my late father-in-law, and wanted to sell them. I wasn't going to drag all 90 lbs of coins into the shop without getting some idea of what he would be willing to pay. So, after looking at the coins I was trying to get him to give me a price. He asked me "how much do you want?" like he was willing to snooker me into taking a low price due to my "apparent" lack of knowledge. I just could not get him out of this mindset of looking at the 2 stacks of 20 coins and wanting to make a deal on JUST THOSE... even after I explained I wanted to sell them all and the rest were out in my car. I could not get him to really work with me. It was frustrating and inexplicable, so I said "thanks" and left. I went down the street to San Jose Coin Shop and had a MUCH better experience with the much quieter and calmer owner there, who listened and understood immediately, and dealt with me very fairly! read more

I had such a disappointing experience that I'm surprised Vic has such high praise elsewhere. I brought in coins from my late father's collection to sell. Vic, I notice you like to provide context in your negative reviews, so I'll help you out: (1) I had called Vic some time before and he was clear that he did not accept proof coins. I knew that going in. I had a whole coin collection at the time so I took them down to the store. He was closed, so I wound up going down the street to San Jose Coins ... which is a fantastic shop. (2) At SJC, they bought coins for the silver, including proof coins. I mistakenly thought ALL coin shops would purchase silver coins as well. For those of you not aware, this is not the case. (3) Vic's does not buy coins for the metal. Unfortunately, I was not clear or had misunderstood this. (4) So .... I came back to Vic's today because SJC was closed. I had more coins I had missed from my first trip and thought Vic would buy them for the silver (like SJC had). Again, where I was wrong is that when Vic said "I don't buy proof coins" it was an absolute statement. I thought he meant "sets." (which is what I understood as proof coins). Also, see point #3. (4) I ALSO brought in two proof sets - again, knowing clearly he would not buy them. HOWEVER, I wanted to ask him where he thought I could sell them, or if there was any value in the silver. (5) Vic asked me why I even brought in these proof coins at all ...and I told him there were two reasons: - SJC was closed - I thought all coin shops just bought silver. If you (or Vic) skipped the previous 4 points, please know that before today ... I didn't know this was unique to SJC. Where this ALL goes wrong is how condescending and unhelpful Vic was. I went in with a friend of mine who was equally as surprised at the lack of any grace or patience whatsoever. TAKEAWAY IF you have rare coins that don't have the word "proof" on them or their box, or you have coins that don't have a box and don't have the word "proof" anywhere near them or in the same building, my guess is you will have a non-negative experience with Vic. BUT for all that is good in this life ... if you don't understand coins and need help, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU GO TO SAN JOSE COINS where you will be treated with patience and respect. read more

I had an assortment of silver coins as most people my age (73) have acquired over the years. I googled Coin Shops In My Area" and Vic's had the highest rating. There was one person inside when I got there and the door was locked. Understandable considering the type of business. The other customer left and I was let in. Vic couldn't have been friendlier to a novice customer. He Pointed out flaws and condition. He examined my coins and showed me the value in a book or on his phone. All I can say is that this was one of the strangest encounters with another person I've experienced. My partner and I went in after she spoke with Vic on the phone and he said to come in for info on a good sized coin collection. He kept reiterating the same thing, pre 1964 is all he deals with. So as she's trying to syphon through the (organized in books and containers) coins he continues to say this as if we didn't hear him the first 10 times. She acknowledged him and stated she's just trying to pull that stuff out. He seemed EXTREMELY defensive about anything we asked even when she said "I'm going to write down the info if you don't mind". His response was an animated with hands and arms making big gestures that "he can't stop her from writing anything down and she can do whatever she likes." I asked at the beginning if the coins (he was quoting a price on the metal they were made of) were sold based on the rareness or just the metal. He was immediately defensive again giant gestures and speaking loudly and fast that he's just quoting metal (uhhh-yeah that's why I'm asking). We quickly realized either he was just a defensive guy or he thought we were somehow challenging him by asking a few questions. So I pretended to look at coins on display so we could make HIM comfortable. Not at all very well versed in customer service We left more confused than when we arrived. He literally told us just to use eBay that it's the best resource for all of our questions. It was so strange. He actually then followed up 2 days later with an even weirder voice mail acknowledging that he felt maybe we left hurriedly and with a lot of the collection unappraised and that he does free verbal appraisals and invited her back. He said "it was confusing for me to talk to 2 people at once". What the heck?! Lol needless to say we won't be back and would not recommend this place to anyone. Try eBay! Lol read more

I dropped in at Vic's right as he was prepping to close, half expecting to get rushed out being as I cut it really close. Instead I was greeted with an amiable smile and greeting that immediately let me know I was in the right place. He took a look at what I had brought in and did every step of testing with me, weighing, with friendly explanations and banter along the way. His more than generous offer was a nice surprise and when we were down to splitting a buck he grinned and slipped it into my pile. I've definitely found my go-to coinee.
