Stopped on for breakfast and it is like going back 30 years. The portions were very large the owners were super friendly and not trying to show you out the door to get the next customer in. Tried this place while on vacation with my friends. It's pretty good! They have a wide range of foods from fish and chips, burgers, and some taco kind of things (did not try this last one). The staff is very friendly, Prices aren't bad at all. My friends and I went here twice, the second time we went, the guy who took our order didn't charge us for fries because he didn't want to charge our card for paying less than $5. Keep it simple at Vic's. Dined here with my son for breakfast last weekend. I had biscuits and gravy...a fave of mine. The biscuits were very nice, but the gravy was clearly from a jar. Not terrible, but not homemade. Pancakes my son had were just fine. Link sausages were quite good. Place overall is rather dumpy, with a large, beat up air conditioning unit sitting in the dining area, but service was prompt and friendly. I'd go back for a simple breakfast or burger and fry lunch. Save the insane amount of money they charge for a crappy burger, and go some where else!! Second time I have gone in to grab an order to go for my kids, and AGAIN, the order was missing 2 things, and one of the burger Patty's tasted sour. Not worth a phone call, last time I called in to ask about missing items, girl I talked to was VERY rude and unapologetic. Seriously. Save your money for Haleys or the Brewery. Love this burger joint! Staff are always friendly and prompt service. Burgers, sides, and shakes are always tasty. Love the atmosphere. It's a little rustic but clean. The restrooms were too on the occasions I was there. The whole experience brings back memories of the old mom and pop joints we visited growing up in the old days. Look, there's nothing fancy about Vic's, and that's why it's so good. It's real. The owners are there working behind the counter and they care that you have a good experience. The deluxe cheeseburger is AOK. Don't come here if you're gluten free, or vegetarian, or have a refined urban palette. But this place is real, long standing, and does a great job of what it does. I'd like to say a huge THANK YOU to the lady who takes orders, except that I don't know her name. She let me use her business phone today to call AAA because my battery died, thus she possibly missed phone orders that are the backbone of her small business. I read through some of the reviews because I couldn't believe anyone would give them less than 3 stars for *anything.* So I have to say to all the critics, THBBBBBBBT. Get over yourselves. Especially Brian in Friday Harbor, who should know better. If he's such an expert on how to run a local business, why doesn't he open his own? It's not a "restaurant," it's a DRIVE-IN. It says so in the name. They've been in business for as long as I've been coming to the island, so I guess they're doing something right. Want a place that's open 24/7, with breakfast any time you want it? Go back to the mainland and hang out at McDonald's or IHOP or Denny's. THIS business is very clear on its key demographic, and that's people who want decent, filling, quick food for lunch--not breakfast or dinner, LUNCH. I.e., locals who *work* for a living, and kids who want an after-school snack. Not tourists who expect to pay for everything with credit cards and never stop to consider that the bank charges for that convenience could be the difference between a small but positive profit margin, and no profit at all. Not people who want Seattle food at small-town prices---this is a DINER, folks. You don't want grease? Take your pick of the many fine dining places in town. They will charge you more for one fancy salad than you will pay for an entire meal here. And for the guys/gals who call it "Costco" food? Well, guess what. Even Costco food has to be bought, stored, refrigerated, prepped, cooked, and served by real people who live on a real island that has a really high cost of living. Know what the price of a Costco run is for someone who lives in a place that depends on ferries? It's $50-$65 PER TRIP--assuming you can get a reservation now that tourists who plan their vacations months ahead have first pick of the trip days and times. And that's just the ferry ticket--it doesn't include gas for the long drive from Anacortes to Burlington and back. Oh, and the people who were so offended by the owner waving them away? He's probably tired of having to explain to tourists who think rules don't apply to them because *they* are on vacation, that closing hours mean the grill has already been turned off and cooled down, and anyway he's been on his feet for 6 hours straight and wants to go home. I won't even speculate on what that gal who said the cashier "rolled her eyes and sighed" did to warrant that behavior (unusual in my experience--and obviously many others' as well). She probably asked for the 12th time if something was gluten-free, or not fried, or any one of a dozen other questions that could have been forestalled by her READING THE LARGE AND DESCRIPTIVE MENU BOARD before going up to the counter and probably blocking other customers who *did* know what they wanted to order. In sum: Do they provide what they promise? Yes. The food is exactly as described on their limited, diner-style menu. It's served hot, with a smile. Five stars. Do you get quick service? I always have. Five stars. Are the owners friendly? That should be a bonus question, but I have to give them five stars there too, as they have been not just pleasant but helpful beyond the parameters of serving food. I hope this Mom & Pop diner goes on serving for a long while yet. Because when they decide they can finally afford to take a long-overdue retirement, that little spot is going to leave a huge hole in the Friday Harbor community. read more

I cannot recommend this place to anyone. Subpar food alongside horrible hours and they only accept cash. They only serve breakfast one day a week, they close on holidays when the streets are flooded with people looking for food. The place just seems like it is run by someone that doesn't care about making money or serving good food to the locals. This could be the best local hangout for food but it is not. read more

Good simple food. I wanted to find a quiet, inexpensive place to eat on a recent trip. A local woman recommended Vic's. The people were super nice, the food was inexpensive, well cooked and extremely hot. They gave me great advice on what to see and some good directions around town. I went back the following morning while waiting on the whale museum to open. They remembered my name, and made such huge pancakes that I couldn't even pretend to finish them. read more

I am not sure how or why this place has fairly good ratings! It was absolutely horrible food that we had for dinner tonight. We fed five for $43.00. The patato salad was out of a bucket, i've never seen or tasted anything like the chicken nuggets made with a cardboard coating as well as the chicken strips, I got enough food in my clams strips basket to feed a toddler, even the tartar sauce was nasty. My mom had to go to San Juan bakery for a piece of pizza to feel satisfied (which was delicious, by the way). Each of our meals seem to have been the cheapest of the cheap, out of a bag and/or frozen. No home-made anything. Not even diner-worthy food. More like tv dinner worthy. I would have actually preferred a T.V. dinner over this. Would give 0 stars if I could! Bummer to be expecting some good ol' fashion diner food, and instead you end up eating bagged or freezer boxed food. read more

The NEW OWNERS of Vic's are doing a GREAT job! Good basic food with a varied "diner" menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner at the LOWEST prices on the island. We dine here at least twice a week. The previously posted, poor reviews were prior to the new owners taking over. If you haven't tried Vic's recently, or are visiting the island, give it a try. It really is SO much improved! read more

When you roll your eyes and sigh deeply at customers when they are ordering, it is a sign that you should no longer be in the food service business. Horrible service and sub-par food. A tip for people that love supporting your local shack or greasy dive, this is not the place for you. read more

I, too, can shop at Costco and make food that tastes like salt. There is no reason to pay for it in a restaurant. Apart from that, the weird manner of the counter staff was just that... weird. No wonder it was empty when I showed up for lunch. read more

Vic's Drive Inn was the perfect place to stop and get lunch on our first day on the island. The owners/staff were incredibly friendly and took great care of us. We had a party of 11 people and all of the orders came out in a timely manner together and with no mistakes. Great place to go! read more

This is as close to home as it gets. The food is great, place could use a nice 50's diner touch up and ketchup bottles instead of packets but no biggy. Prices are reasonable for those of us that just love burgers n fries carhop style, no need to worry about attire like other local burger joints, if you wanna eat out on a budget this is the place. read more
