Vic's Drive In one of those storied businesses that has been a centerpoint of the community for decades. Multiple generations of youngsters have had their first dates and celebrations of all sorts in this space since 1958. As drive-in culture grew, and the islands became more and more of a tourist destination, Vic's cemented its place in Friday Harbor history as one of the oldest and most popular businesses in town. It's hard to miss this gorgeous diner as you head up the hill from the ferry terminal. In a treed setting, with mid-century signage, the green and white building draws your attention. And the good vibes continue once you enter the building as well. Their giant menu and order window evoke a strong sense of nostalgia, as well as the vintage signage and displays throughout the building. There is lots of seating inside, as well as some benches outside on the sidewalk. The menu is pretty straightforward drive-in fare, with the burgers, fries and milkshakes you'd expect to find. Everything is hand made, to order. The prices were a little higher than I'd hope for, but in a tourist town during a period of high inflation, I guess it's to be expected . We had a lovely experience, taking our food to go, choosing to eat on the bluff overlooking the harbor just two blocks away. There's a tiny park with several picnic tables and benches, making a perfect setting to enjoy our delicious burgers. The reviews for Vic's seem a bit polarizing, but I sense there may be some small town politics at play. The business has a long history as a neighborhood gathering place, and I'd love to see that tradition continue. When I return to visit the island in the future, they will have my continued support.

I ordered the deluxe cheeseburger, a dirty soda - summer, and a soft serve in a cone.

We stumbled across crèmecart at the Saturday Farmers' Market on Orcas Island. The two ladies who run the crèmecart, Michelle and Sommer, sound like they are regulars at the Saturday Farmers' Market, and other island locations as well. They rotate many cool ice cream flavors and cookie combinations. Their crèmecart Facebook page listed many enticing flavors, including: butter cookie and strawberry cheesecake ice cream; dark chocolate cookie and ginger ice cream; chocolate cookie with: salted caramel ice cream or coconut ice cream or chocolate ice cream; lemon cookie with: lavender ice cream or vanilla ice cream; gluten free almond cookie with vanilla or chocolate ice cream; and on July 4th, Apple Pie Ice Cream Sandies. How fun is that? So, like any food cart, crèmecart is seasonal, and moves around following the crowds. Thankfully, Orcas is a small island, and I promise you, they are worth searching for! Five Stars.

By the time I got there, lots of the ice cream sandwiches were sold out. All of the sandwiches are prewrapped and kept cold in the cart, so once they're gone... They're really gone. The cookie was nice and soft, but firm enough to stay together. The ice cream kept cold and didn't drip all over me. I was such a happy camper with my ice cream sandwich. I sure hope I run into this cart again!!

Very impressive little store full of tons of stuff! Groceries, pantry staples, a small produce section, some premade deli food and cookies. I was looking for the bakery items. A previous review mentioned delicious homemade pastries. Finally as I choose a cookie and a salad for later I see them. A small pedestal plate with pastries. And on the countertop behind the register tons of croissants! I said, there they are! The two ladies working were not impressed. I asked for the flavors and the lady said, there is a menu right there. Ugh, not fully awake I realized a line had formed behind me. This is the spot to go before getting in a ferry. The sign was not clearly visible and I felt overwhelmed with the decision so I quickly decided on a raspberry almond. This is clearly a place for locals. Everyone knows what they want and where it is. Not super friendly vibes, but oh well. Took photos of my purchases back in my gorgeous villa LOL, watch for my next review. Super happy to discover this market! And I love a good market! Happy travels. SYOY!
