Vic's on the River was just an average experience for us. We had 5:30 reservations, and although the restaurant wasn't busy, it took a few minutes before anyone greeted us. We were seated in a corner near the bathrooms, and when I asked if we could have a table with a river view, I was told they had all been requested already. Nothing on the menu really stood out to me, so I ordered a wedge salad and a glass of wine. My husband had the French onion soup and a Caesar salad. The complimentary biscuits were definitely the highlight of the meal. They were warm, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The food itself was good, and the service was perfectly fine, but nothing about the experience felt memorable or special. Overall, it was just a middle-of-the-road dining experience. Just fresh, sweet crab prepared perfectly. The beef carpaccio was elegant, incredibly flavorful, and disappeared far too quickly. Then came the French onion soup. There's a reason the National Onion Association recognized it as the best. Rich, deeply caramelized, perfectly balanced, and topped with a blanket of bubbling cheese. Without question, the best French onion soup I've ever had. The black truffle scallops were buttery, tender, and absolutely decadent. The evening's special--a blackened filet paired with shrimp linguine--was phenomenal. The filet was cooked to perfection, and the shrimp linguine brought bold Cajun flavors that made us feel like we had been transported straight to Louisiana. To finish it all off, watching enormous cargo ships leave the Port of Savannah bound for destinations around the world while enjoying an incredible meal is an experience all its own. We had a bigger lunch so we opted on splitting the food we ordered and it worked out perfect as we were able to order a little more food. Every part of our meal was full of flavor and with every bite you just wanted more! The drinks were also good! Once you were done with your meal you are right by the river so you are able to enjoy an evening stroll without having to walk too far. They also have a coffee shop in the basement that you are able to use your receipt from lunch or dinner to get a certain percentage off your order - however I don't recall the amount. read more

A perfect anniversary dinner! We recently visited Vic's on the River for our anniversary, and it was such a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The food was absolutely delicious, but what really made our evening special was the exceptional service. Everyone was so kind and welcoming, and our server, Nae, was especially wonderful. She was incredibly kind, friendly, attentive, and made us feel so special throughout our entire dinner. We celebrated a friend's birthday over dinner at Vic's on the River, and despite a little mix-up at the start, it turned into a wonderful evening. I accidentally made reservations for Vic's River Grill instead of Vic's on the River (completely my mistake!). Thankfully, Renee, the hostess, was incredibly kind and accommodating. She quickly helped get our group seated in the correct restaurant, and I really appreciated how gracious she was. Our server, Marissa, was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. I can never pass up fried green tomatoes, and these were a great way to start the meal. I also ordered the she-crab soup, which was rich, creamy, and full of flavor...definitely one of the highlights of dinner. For my entree, I chose the fried red snapper with collard greens and Parmesan risotto. The snapper was just okay, and while the collard greens were good, the risotto was unfortunately overcooked and had a mushy texture. Although my entree didn't quite wow me, the outstanding hospitality from Renee and Marissa, the charming historic atmosphere, and the beautiful views along the river made it a memorable birthday dinner. If in Savannah, everyone should go to Vic's. As part of my usual routine when traveling solo, I sat at the bar. I ordered a brown ale from a local brewery. It was good. I asked Katie the bartender about her martini making skills. She killed it to my specs. I then ordered the blackened medallions and shrimp over linguini. My only complaint is it could have had a more blackened, spicy flavor. However the sauce was similar to a light stroganoff and was very tasty!! And they gave biscuits to snack on!! We walked by Vic's On the River several times and it was always busy. However, we decided to try and get a table for 5 without a reservation and we lucked out. There was room in the bar which was actually really nice because they had a person playing the piano! Our server was great. Their drink menu is expansive and he was very patient with us. For dinner, I had the salmon on Israeli couscous. It was cooked (crispy on the outside and totally tender on the inside) and seasoned perfectly. Dinner service starts at 5:00p. I was not aware of this and arrived an hour too early. After traveling all day, walking the city in the heat, and not having a real meal yet this was a disappointment. I also had my dog with me and couldn't stay inside at the bar until dinner time. I ended up getting some waters to go for my pup and I and walked around the city some more until 5p. We went back to Vic's and thankfully got a seat out on their small patio area where they are pet friendly. It filled up fast, and glad we were able to get seated. It is first come first serve outside, but needed reservations for indoor dining. The only bad part, was it smelled like weed out on the patio. The service was friendly and fast. The main reason I specifically went to Vic's was for the She Crab Soup I was told I had to try. I ordered that and a salad. It was hot and hot soup didn't sound the best but it was delicous, just as it was promised to be. The salad was light and helped cool down the heat of the day. I also ordered a cucumber mocktail that was also light and refreshing. I didn't linger long as I was tired. Overall the service was good, the food was tasty for the light fare that I ordered. Was in town for St. Patty's Day and was amazed they were able to squeeze our huge party (12) in last minute. Ambiance and layout of the restaurant is fun, nice waitress. My husband had the Shrimp n' Grits (without the BBQ sauce) ($25), which he said was a solid B -- nothing amazing. I had the Braised Beef Short Rib with Cheerwine Sauce ($28), which I really enjoyed -- solid B+. My biggest complaint was that my food wasn't hot; guessing that was due to our huge party. Our only compliant was the noise in the upstairs room they put us in. There was another large party and they were obnoxiously loud. We were looking forward to going there since we received a gift certificate...so we decided to go there to celebrate our anniversary...we requested a table by the window but they couldn't accommodate us because the table was for 4 people... but 5 minutes later they sat a couple at that table... we ordered cocktails and after 15 minutes I asked the waiter were they were... he forgot... the cocktails were 2/3 ice and must have had a 1/2 oz of alcohol in both... then our fried green tomatoes appetizer came out we found it to be bland... then it took over an hour for our entree to come out...we ordered shrimp and grits...the grits were flavorless but the shrimp was ok overall the dish was bland and flavorless ...overall dining there was a disappointment and I wouldn't recommend eating there...and overall over priced for what you get. read more

On our my favorite meals of the trip! We snagged a reservation a few days before and quickly sat once we arrived for our dinner. Few different specials offered for dinner. We opted for drinks- Vodka gimlet and peach punch - gimlet a little on the stronger side so you definitely get your moneys worth. Apps we tried the lump crab cake - 98% crab meat, so so good - and the French onion soup also delish! For the meal we tried the ribeye special and I got the pan sear scallops over risotto and added lobster- pure perfection, I can never pass up scallops or lobster. Everything was delicious and sadly no room for dessert. Since we were traveling the next day we had no way to keep our leftover ribeye and we were sad to leave it. Had a late reservation at Vic's and was seated a little early. We were informed by locals that we had to have the fried green tomatoes. OMG, thank goodness we listened. Beautiful and elegant 4th floor restaurant serving authentic and delicious Southern cuisine. The crab cakes were full of crab, only a tiny bit of filler. Cheddar grits and honey butter bisquits were top quality. Grilled asparagus was perfect. Fried oysters were very fresh and tasty. The menu is so full of good things that I would like to go back and try more. Our server, Daniel, gave us excellent and frank insight into menu options and he was so efficient and polite. His service added to our positive experience. Note that if you are coming from the water side you get to the restaurant through a coffee shop and an elevator ride. The drinks were good and the fried green tomatoes and crawfish beignets were delicious. For dinner my wife had the pecan fried flounder and she really enjoyed it and the bite I had was very tasty. I ordered the fried chicken with macaroni and collard greens. It was a lot of food the macaroni was tender and cheesy and the collard greens were tender with just the right amount of vinegar. The fried chicken was crispy and the meat inside was moist and tender. Vic's treated us with a dessert and one of their cookbooks. This is my first time stopping at Dick's coffee. They have a drink specials for the month and they have cocktails along with coffee, tea, and ice cream and milkshakes. To me this reminds me of a little hip coffee joint in Florida. It's very warm on the inside if they have some seating and then they have restrooms as well. I got a hot Americano with oat milk and apple simple syrup for four dollars. They do have a restroom on the inside however, you do need a code for the bathroom. Servant from the lady at the counter was quick and efficient and she was very nice and there is another girl that is making it the coffee that yells out your name . 10/10 This location is located right off of River Street right on the river. They have public parking garages around the area as well as parking on River Street. It just becomes very congested in the morning. read more

Two bites in and it had all the flavor and texture of cardboard, the meat grinder machine must be dirty. I let the waitress know, and instead of an apology or an easy swap, the "solution" offered was upgraded scallops... for an additional charge. Not exactly the customer service one expects from a place with this reputation and this view. Without question, Vic's on the River was the biggest disappointment of our Savannah visit. While the food was OK (and the only reason they earned two stars), service was shockingly bad. We were a party of four couples so we booked well in advance. Rather than seating us in the main dining level, we were a floor below in a painfully loud room with other large groups, which was staffed by what can be generously described as the "D Team" servers. Our waiter aggressively pushed cocktails from the special list, all of which were poorly executed and shockingly sweet. I allowed myself to be conned into ordering a "Blueberry Lemondrop," and frankly I should have known better. It was an awful concoction. My friend's wife ordered another cocktail so awful it was undrinkable, which when brought to our waiter's attention he promised to take off the bill (and never did), and never offered to replace. Cocktails were slammed down by the unfriendly servers on top of silverware, with spills all across the table. And it only got worse. Starters were mediocre at best, and all I can say is avoid the she crab soup: a thick and salty concoction with bits of pimento (I think) but nary a crab to be found. The mains were better: one of our party enjoyed their pork chop and my fried oysters and shrimp were good, but again the waiter got my requested sides completely wrong, and never returned with those originally ordered. Plates were slammed down randomly in front of the wrong person, leading us into hysterics as we rotated plates across the table while the clueless waiters just glared at us. When the bil arrived, we fortunately examined it carefully as we realized that they had added a 20% service charge, which they failed to mention. They also failed to credit us as promised for the undrinkable drinks. Be warned: Vic's bills itself as fine dining, but it is anything but. Without question the worst service and most mediocre meal I have experienced in one of America's great dining cities. Do yourself a favor and avoid! There is so much better out there. read more

My husband had done some research & read great reviews for Vic's On The River. We were not disappointed! They have a great happy hour in the bar 4-5pm, with half off wine, beer, & basic liquor that is already very reasonably priced. Contrary to the name, their seating outside actually is patio seating facing Bay Street. If you want a view, request a table inside in front of one the windows overlooking the river. We ordered Fried Green Tomatoes as our appetizer, and the Atlantic Shellfish Mélange and Southern Meatloaf. All of which were delicious! We were too stuffed for dessert, but they sounded amazing. Started with the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer; was nice but not really what this yankee cared for. My main was the halibut with risotto and asparagus, which was prepared nicely. I passed on dessert. I had the pecan fried flounder with an orange cream sauce and a potato/asparagus side and it sounds strange but I swear I started levitating as a ate. The service was great as to be expected and the view of the river was so lovely. The energy was definitely leaning towards a quiet date night, but I didn't feel particularly out of place in a more casual way. We went to Vic's for our wedding anniversary. The food was really good. Our server was super nice and very attentive. It was a cool location but I was pretty disappointed with the seating. They just pack people in a little closely for my liking. I was also disappointed to know that they didn't do anything for our anniversary even though they asked on the reservation if we were celebrating anything. I think I've gotten a little spoiled because we usually go to the Olde Pink House and they have always made a point to make it special for our anniversary. Will definitely be going back to the Olde Pink House for anniversaries but I would come back here on a regular date night. read more

July 8, 2025 - Two for dinner, we were staying out by 75 and visiting the Botanical Gardens travelling South to our FL home. Not a ding on the review, but FYI. Parking sucks, and you can't even put in enough time to stroll the riverfront and see the sights and spend a few hundred on things and a meal? Looks like a ticketing trap by the City? Disappointing. So was the riverfront too industrial. I had to ****run*** back to the car as I had slipped over the time limit by a few minutes and expected a $150 ticket or maybe a $300 tow job. (sadly this has happened other places - Sarasota City and Port Jefferson/Long Island as just two examples) NOT tourist or consumer friendly! Loved the restaurant. Tax, tags, and tip we had a great meal with drinks for about $55 per person. Wife drank 2 Blueberry Lemon Drops - she claimed awesome! $12 per. I got a Ginger beer something mocktail for $10. Tasty 8/10 She got a whole whipped goat cheese and strawberry salad that was VERY fresh and had high variety of vegetables and greens. $24. Nicely done. 8/10 I went with the Whole artisanal Mixed Greens $13 and threw a jumbo lump crab cake on there + $18 - so a $31 match up. The salad was awesome and really good and fresh. 10/10 the jumbo crabcake was just okay, not bad or mayo laden or breaded out, but a little stewy and wet and obviously a bit of filler and at $18 too expensive for a future consideration. 5/10 Service was AWSOME and attentive and pleasant by PM B on the receipt. The food was fine. This could have been a lovely meal if not for the poor service. I ordered a basic martini - it came out both wrong and warm. When I requested a remake, it was still wrong and still warm. I don't drink it - it sat on the table throughout the meal. The server, Stephen, never asked how things were and whether the drink was ok. He just dumped stuff on our table and left as quickly as possible. I was with my teenage son and I am certain that if I had been with my husband we would not have been treated with such poor service. A big disappointment. read more
