We didn't do any reservations but only had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. We could have sat at the bar and order food but we wanted to sit outside so we sat at the bar and ordered some drinks. We had a bigger lunch so we opted on splitting the food we ordered and it worked out perfect as we were able to order a little more food. Every part of our meal was full of flavor and with every bite you just wanted more! The drinks were also good! Once you were done with your meal you are right by the river so you are able to enjoy an evening stroll without having to walk too far. They also have a coffee shop in the basement that you are able to use your receipt from lunch or dinner to get a certain percentage off your order - however I don't recall the amount.

This was my very first time visiting, and it absolutely did not disappoint! Vic's offers upscale, Southern-style dining right overlooking the river. The atmosphere is wonderful, complete with great live music, and the staff is incredibly attentive. They feature a highly impressive wine selection to pair with dinner. If you are looking for recommendations, I would highly suggest trying the pork chop and the short rib--both were absolutely delicious and cooked to absolute perfection.

We celebrated a friend's birthday over dinner at Vic's on the River, and despite a little mix-up at the start, it turned into a wonderful evening. I accidentally made reservations for Vic's River Grill instead of Vic's on the River (completely my mistake!). Thankfully, Renee, the hostess, was incredibly kind and accommodating. She quickly helped get our group seated in the correct restaurant, and I really appreciated how gracious she was. Our server, Marissa, was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. I can never pass up fried green tomatoes, and these were a great way to start the meal. I also ordered the she-crab soup, which was rich, creamy, and full of flavor...definitely one of the highlights of dinner. For my entree, I chose the fried red snapper with collard greens and Parmesan risotto. The snapper was just okay, and while the collard greens were good, the risotto was unfortunately overcooked and had a mushy texture. Although my entree didn't quite wow me, the outstanding hospitality from Renee and Marissa, the charming historic atmosphere, and the beautiful views along the river made it a memorable birthday dinner. I'd happily return for the she-crab soup, fried green tomatoes, and the exceptional service.

If in Savannah, everyone should go to Vic's. As part of my usual routine when traveling solo, I sat at the bar. I ordered a brown ale from a local brewery. It was good. I asked Katie the bartender about her martini making skills. She killed it to my specs. I then ordered the blackened medallions and shrimp over linguini. My only complaint is it could have had a more blackened, spicy flavor. However the sauce was similar to a light stroganoff and was very tasty!! And they gave biscuits to snack on!! I saved one for the left over sauce. Atmosphere-5 Food -5 Service-5 (Sorry Katie, that's as high as I can go) Katie was great--attentive without being annoying!! And she's nice!! And she recommended a great wine pairing!! Piano player is a classy touch!!

We walked by Vic's On the River several times and it was always busy. However, we decided to try and get a table for 5 without a reservation and we lucked out. There was room in the bar which was actually really nice because they had a person playing the piano! Our server was great. Their drink menu is expansive and he was very patient with us. For dinner, I had the salmon on Israeli couscous. It was cooked (crispy on the outside and totally tender on the inside) and seasoned perfectly. I was told that the pear salad special was really good also. Vic's is definitely a happening place and whether you go there for drinks or food, you won't likely be disappointed.

Was in town for St. Patty's Day and was amazed they were able to squeeze our huge party (12) in last minute. Ambiance and layout of the restaurant is fun, nice waitress. My husband had the Shrimp n' Grits (without the BBQ sauce) ($25), which he said was a solid B -- nothing amazing. I had the Braised Beef Short Rib with Cheerwine Sauce ($28), which I really enjoyed -- solid B+. My biggest complaint was that my food wasn't hot; guessing that was due to our huge party. Our only compliant was the noise in the upstairs room they put us in. There was another large party and they were obnoxiously loud. It would be nice if there were some sound absorbing tiles in that room, as there is nothing to absorb the sound otherwise, making it very loud.

Everything my table ordered was great. The complimentary biscuits and crawfish beignets were a standout. Our server was attentive and checked on us often. Some tables have a river view which adds a very nice touch.

Savannah has no shortage of incredible restaurants, but Vic's on the River absolutely deserves its place among the city's best. The setting alone is worth the visit. Sitting along the river while watching massive cargo ships slowly make their way toward the Atlantic creates one of those uniquely Savannah experiences you simply can't find anywhere else. Our server, Matthew, was outstanding. Friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely made the evening even more enjoyable. Service like his is a big part of what turns a great meal into an unforgettable one. Now, the food... The crab cake was one of the best I've ever had--easily 95% lump crab with barely any filler. Just fresh, sweet crab prepared perfectly. The beef carpaccio was elegant, incredibly flavorful, and disappeared far too quickly. Then came the French onion soup. There's a reason the National Onion Association recognized it as the best. Rich, deeply caramelized, perfectly balanced, and topped with a blanket of bubbling cheese. Without question, the best French onion soup I've ever had. The black truffle scallops were buttery, tender, and absolutely decadent. The evening's special--a blackened filet paired with shrimp linguine--was phenomenal. The filet was cooked to perfection, and the shrimp linguine brought bold Cajun flavors that made us feel like we had been transported straight to Louisiana. To finish it all off, watching enormous cargo ships leave the Port of Savannah bound for destinations around the world while enjoying an incredible meal is an experience all its own. Vic's on the River delivered on every level: exceptional food, first-class service, and an atmosphere that's impossible to duplicate. This wasn't just another dinner--it was one of the highlights of our trip to Savannah. Don't leave without ordering the French onion soup. And if you're lucky enough to have Matthew as your server, you're in for a memorable evening.

My husband and I visited Vic's on the River for a small bite and cocktails! We sat at the bar where there was live music playing by a pianist; he was phenomenal! The service from the bartenders including Mike left us feeling satisfied!! The young lady bartender was very nice! She made our drinks perfectly! The crab cake paired with a small salad was served at the perfect temperature and was delicious!! This was our second time visiting this restaurant this year. We are here for our anniversary in Savannah, Georgia and so far, the people are friendly and the town is beautiful!

This restaurant was great ! From the service to the food it was absolutely amazing! The restaurant was busy for lunch on a Friday, but was able to still get seated within 10 minutes upon arrival. It very nice inside with a classy atmosphere, but still casual. I recommend this restaurant if your in this area (Savannah,GA) staff is all friendly and helpful

On our my favorite meals of the trip! We snagged a reservation a few days before and quickly sat once we arrived for our dinner. Few different specials offered for dinner. We opted for drinks- Vodka gimlet and peach punch - gimlet a little on the stronger side so you definitely get your moneys worth. Apps we tried the lump crab cake - 98% crab meat, so so good - and the French onion soup also delish! For the meal we tried the ribeye special and I got the pan sear scallops over risotto and added lobster- pure perfection, I can never pass up scallops or lobster. Everything was delicious and sadly no room for dessert. Since we were traveling the next day we had no way to keep our leftover ribeye and we were sad to leave it. Definitely will return for my next trip to Savannah!

Haven't been here in years (pre covid) and all I can say is the food is still delicious. I had the oysters Rockefeller and she crab soup and my wife had the shrimp and grits. All dishes were excellent, tasty and well prepared. The entire wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. When on river street i STRONGLY suggest you stop in and try them out.

Good food, and ok service. Not a very welcoming environment in my humble opinion. I would try them again though. There was a piano player who played exceptionally well!

I will be in Savannah in January for my fiancé's birthday and I was thinking of making reservations for a birthday dinner, but I was wondering first if they do anything special for special occasions like a birthday?

    What is dress code?

Being in a touristy area of the city, pretty much anything goes during lunch. At lunchtime, it is not uncommon to see shorts/T-shirts to gentleman in sport coats. Recommend dressing up to Southern dress (khakis, collared shirt, sundress, etc.) in…

Anyone had the Sunday Breakfast Buffet here?

Yes. You can either order off the menu or order the buffet. We decided to order the buffet. I am not normally a big buffet person but got here when they first opened and the food looked fantastic. It is $24.95 which also includes coffee and tea.…

What is dress code for dinner? How upscale is this place?

We dressed totally casual, jeans and t-shirts, and were in no way out of place - people with shorts, flip-flops etc.... Some people were dressed nicer. It really isn't that fancy/upscale.

I made my way to the tasting counter and had the chance to do my tastings under the guidance of Noah. There were so many options to choose from, Noah was so helpful helping me find my choices and explaining the notes. He was one of the best parts of the experience, I was really impressed with his knowledge of the wine and his fantastic customer service. I decided to try the jalapeño wine, the Tybee island pearadise pine, velvet reserve, white Pinot noir, and the prohibition pomegranate. The pearadise pine and white pinot noir were both so light and lovely, perfect beach wines. The jalapeño wine was surprisingly fantastic. Noah said that many people were pleasantly surprised with it and I joined that number. It was sweet and smoky, not overwhelming at all. The prohibition pomegranate was my least favorite unfortunately. It was tooooo sweet but I'm one who prefers a dryer wine and Noah did give me a heads up that it was pretty sweet. I couldn't finish it. BUT. BUT. That Velvet Reserve? Babyyyy. My bff Noah said it was his favorite and a favorite of many, bold and high alcohol content. Let me tell you, he didn't lie one bit. It was so bold, rich in flavors, phew. I immediately asked him to grab a bottle for me. Such a great experience trying some local wines, so happy to head back to ATL with a new fave vino!

The whole place is designed to feel like the inside of a trailer--spray-painted antique chandeliers, old pictures of different trailer parks, and random little details everywhere. It's kitschy, but very intentional, and honestly pretty cool. We came in late after a 4h drive into town after work, and the staff was still super friendly and accommodating. No "we're about to close" energy, which I appreciated. We started with the creamy collard dip, which is basically their take on spinach-artichoke dip, but with collards. Really good. I do think the chips were a little too heavy for the dip--a thinner chip would've been perfect--but that's a small note. The chicken pancake tacos were probably my favorite. The chicken was fried perfectly and still really moist. And at this point, I'm convinced Savannah just knows how to cook chicken. Everywhere we went, the chicken was consistently good. My partner got the grilled apple pie sandwich, which has fried chicken, grilled apples and bacon. He's not even a big pork person, but that bacon was so crispy and the whole combination just worked. Even the waffle fries were good--crispy, fresh and actually seasoned. We had the Grateful Dead and Wicked Kiwi cocktails, plus a couple of shots, and the drinks were strong, good and reasonably priced. Honestly, I don't have a ton of notes here. It's not trying to be some elevated dining experience. It's just a really good late-night spot with good food, strong drinks, friendly service and a fun atmosphere. We sat inside because Savannah in August was not about to have us sitting on anybody's patio. Definitely recommend, especially if you're looking for somewhere to eat late. It was a vibe, the food was good, and it did exactly what it needed to do.

For the tapas, we began with the Uni Toast. The uni was fresh and delicious, and the caviar was excellent. My only criticism is that it's a single piece of toast, so at $16 it felt a bit pricey, even though the quality was outstanding. The tomato salad was another highlight. The tomatoes were fresh and flavorful, and the aioli brought everything together beautifully without overpowering the dish. Our favorite savory dish was the braised cabbage. It arrived as essentially half a cabbage--about the size of a brain--which made it a little awkward to eat. That said, the flavors more than made up for the presentation. The gochujang barbecue sauce was rich and slightly sweet with just the right amount of heat, and the roasted oyster mushrooms complemented the cabbage perfectly. Overall, Sombramesa delivered a fantastic meal with creative, high-quality food and excellent service. While a couple of dishes leaned toward the expensive side for their portion size, the quality of the ingredients and the execution made for a memorable experience. We'd happily return!
