What a massive disappointment. Stopped by for a late lunch and was hoping to catch some of the World Cup final. I asked and was told they'd play it, but then after sitting and ordering I'm told they lost the remote so the game is only on a tiny TV on the opposite side of the bar where there is no high top seating. I wouldn't dock a single star for that though. The reason for the one star is that the food is terrible and grossly overpriced. The lobster soup was the best of all we ordered and it was pretty mediocre. No sherry, cream, nor lobster to be found. The tuna was the worst I've ever had and should not be served. Really I should've sent it back, but my son dug in first and ate two pieces, so I felt bad sending it back. I begrudgingly ate my two pieces while my wife only had one. The deviled eggs had overcooked shrimp and a spec of prosciutto. The crab cake was tiny and mediocre. Finally, the mahi dish was maybe a 3 ounce portion with bits of pineapple scattered around basic orzo pasta. The fact that the majority of the few patrons there all ordered fried chicken and Mac n cheese should've been a hint. The restaurant may be by the water, but they are NOT a seafood restaurant. Oh and they charged me 4 extra dollars for "rocks" since I ordered Bourbon on the rocks. We had a shit meal and two drinks each for $175!!! Popped into River House Seafood on a whim and definitely didn't regret it. The staff was welcoming and attentive, and both the drinks and service came out at a solid pace considering how busy they were. I got the Southern Fried Chicken and it was just as delicious as it looked. Crispy, flavorful, and definitely worth ordering. The service was great, both at the bar and once seated and the atmosphere is beautiful. It's right on the river and you can see the cargo ships go by. The food could use some seasoning though. I order the lobster and lumped crabmeat bisque and there was barely any meat in it. I was excited to order the blackened flounder but it had barely any seasoning on it and the crab meat that was supposed to be on top was lacking. We recently visited for dinner to celebrate both of my parents Birthdays while in town. Loved the atmosphere and location (parking lot directly across the street if you're lucky) and service was very friendly (with the exception of the check-in gentleman stationed out front who had quite an unwelcoming demeanor). We were pleased that the tables didn't feel crammed together, offering a bit more room to breathe and enjoy your own group. Great menu variety and pricing was fair. My father found his steak tasty but a tad tough and my mom adored her salmon. I found my baked chicken dish to be very flavorful, and the sweet potato mash side delectable. Apparently they don't do anything special for anyone there to celebrate a special day, but overall it was a very good meal. The only low spot was the restroom situation. On approach, quite a bit of toilet paper strewn about outside and an extra unpleasant odor inside the women's. We went to River House Seafood as the 2nd stop on our food crawl in Savannah. We ordered the Escargot for a little snack. It came with 4 slices of bread and 2 lemons to eat with the escargot. The sauce had a good sweet and savory butter flavor the coated the escargot. I wish there was more bread with the escargot - the bread to escargot ratio wasn't good, there needs at least 4 more pieces of bread to go with the 20 pieces of escargot. The service was good. For a late evening dinner, we stopped in here and sat at the bar for a relaxing time. Though there were plenty of tables available we were told there'd be a 25 minute wait. For dinner, I ordered what the bartender said was her favorite, the crispy fried catfish. It took a bit of time for the meal to come out, but that was OK because when it came out, it was hot. The catfish was a good size but was on the fishy tasting side. Not necessarily much flavor yet flaky. The fish sat in a bowl of shrimp and andouille creole sauce with a piece of cornbread. The sauce also included sausage. The sauce I thought was very good. A lot of flavor with just a hint of spice and hotness. Neither of my colleagues liked their entrée. One got the. pecan bourbon salmon, and the other gut shrimp and grits. Both of them said it wasn't very tasty leaving a lot to be desired. Our waittress, Kirsten, was fabulous! My wife always asks me find a restaurant that serves creme brulee, and theirs was phenominal. The bisque is a vibrant pinkish orange and absolutely delicious. It is rich so a cup was all I needed. I then ordered the ICEBERG WEDGE (A crisp wedge of iceberg lettuce topped with blue cheese crumbles, bacon, tomatoes with house made blue cheese dressing). First, I will say I really dig the brick surroundings, and the location is great. Waitress was okay at best, only saw her a few times. It was the food that was wildly disappointing. Even though I was on my own, I ordered a few things just to try. The "beer cheese" (words used loosely) with the pretzel was more a milky liquified buttery substance that was nauseating. The scallops were oversauced and undersized. The lobster ravioli was virtually tasteless. $100 meal for a single person shouldn't make you mad. I should have just stuck with fried shrimp. For this trip we were in town for 2 nights and we ate at River House both nights. It's THAT GOOD. The service is amazing. It's white tablecloth and five star service. The menu is to die for. I always have a hard time deciding on what to eat becuase of the amazing options. First night there I had the grouper Oscar. The second night I had the blackened flounder. Their food is simply fresh, tasty, and perfect. Our server on night one was Leslie. She has a beautiful smile and was an amazing server for our table. Gave me great suggestions. Our server on night two was Sydney and we thought no one could compete with Leslie but she proved us wrong! She kept our drinks full, and stayed right with us throughout -- she was so good and got my largest tip of the weekend. And deserved it! The place is nice and semi-dark inside. The She-Crab Soup was more reddish than I have had in the past but did have a lot of crab and not hot or anintense of a crab flavor but still worth the $7 cup. The crab cake was a big fat grilled single cake but it was full of crabmeat at and delicious. Would absolutely get agai. The Grouper Oscar was grilled perfectly, not overcooked. Stepped into River House for a quick glass of wine and an appetizer. There were a few seats open at the bar, as the restaurant was quite busy for a Wednesday night. Although I did not make it into the main body of the restaurant, the bar area was so-so. Seems a little dated, but has a good nostalgic feel. I had a glass of house Cabernet, and asked the bartender for an appetizer recommendation. His suggestion was the pan seared scallops. Of all the scallops I've tried across the country, I'd give these a 3/5. Fairly small and a bit overcooked, but the flavor was decent. I'd be interested in trying an entree here just to compare. The atmosphere, food and staff here are top notch! We ate at the bar because 2 spots opened before our table was ready. (pro tip: earlier is better & even if you plan to walk around, get your name on that waiting list!) Even for Valentine's Day the wait was not too bad (around an hour) and there is plenty to look at in the area while you wait for the text from the incredibly helpful and knowledgeable hosts saying that it's your turn. Erin the bartender was also very helpful in guiding us from choices of "really good" to "ours is simply the best" when we were struggling between all the delicious menu options. Spoiler alert: their peach cobbler IS worth it! The grouper dish and salmon pecan dish were spectacular, too! The building was built in the 1820's as a cotton warehouse converted many times before become the River House in 1982. We were out with the kids and our granddaughter for a good quality meal and we found it. We started off with drinks (Be sure to have your ID, Savannah city law requires everyone ordering a drink to show proof of age). An old fashion (a little heavy on the cherry) Mango margarita - not overly sweet, good balance, A lavender gin drink that was oh so smooth A flight of whiskey. The scallops were great, they came crispy bacon and spinach. I have never had a red sauce with escargot but it had a nice flavor. First time for the kids. Shrimp and grits were good, well balanced, nice texture. Grouper Oscar with crab meat and béarnaise sauce was delicious. The portion size was enough for two! Ny strip - 12oz of meat cooked perfectly. Two steaks ordered so only one picture shown. I substituted collard greens for asparagus and Mac and cheese for mashed potato. The au poivre sauce for the steak was quite tasty. When it showed up it didn't look like short ribs, it looked like sliced skirt steak filled with grizzle, which is how it seemed. As I stood outside, I heard someone singing along to a classic rock song that was playing. I turned around to see a cheerful soul singing right along with me -- it was Bruce, the manager. We instantly bonded over the music, and I loved his light-hearted banter with the young attendant as they prepared to seat us. Inside, the restaurant felt so cozy and eclectic, with beautiful architecture that gives off that old Savannah charm. Natural light poured in through the windows facing the street, and I was already excited to explore the menu. Our server, Clint, was absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. The moment he greeted us, I knew we were in good hands. He was funny, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, effortlessly floating from table to table while making every guest feel well taken care of. Now, I wish I could remember exactly what I ordered at first, but whatever it was, I just wasn't quite happy with it. Clint picked up on my hesitation right away -- I didn't even have to say much. With a warm smile he said, "I gotcha! Give me a sec." My husband and I looked at each other, curious about what he was about to do. A few minutes later, Bruce came over, also checking in, and reassured me with, "I know just the thing and you're gonna love it!" Soon after, Clint returned with a brand new dish -- flounder -- and it was absolutely GLORIOUS! I was so touched by how kind and proactive both Clint and Bruce were. Their genuine care and determination to make sure we were happy made an already wonderful date night even more special. It is so heavy that I can't really enjoy. I only ate half of the crab cake and the other one untouched. The crab cake is very oily. Walking in the restaurant is much a swift on the face. First, we arrived early for our reservation and the hostess said she would take care of us in a minute. A waiter named Clint was standing outside and said, I'll take the McCollum's and took us to our table immediately. Everything about this appetizer was done perfectly.And very delicious. There were 3 of us, and we ordered 2 of the seafood specials and in order of blackened flounder. The specials were a Panko fried flounder filet with shrimp and lobster Étouffée and the pan seared grouper with grilled shrimp. We all shared bites of what we had ordered, and everything was outstanding. As Clint was describing desserts to a table next to ours, he leaned over and winked and said wink wink nudge nudge. He had us at wink. That and peach cobbler. We almost never ordered dessert at restaurants but Clint was the consummate salesman.
