Sunday fried chicken in a converted gas station five miles outside Savannah, with oysters that I'm still thinking about three days later. That's the short version. Here's the longer one. Erica Davis Lowcountry sits on Victory Drive in Thunderbolt -- a town so small it has exactly one square mile of land and a name borrowed from a lightning strike that supposedly split open a freshwater spring on the Wilmington River bluff. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself has a similar origin story: a long-shuttered seafood spot called Teeple's, left empty for years, brought back to life by Erica and Dwight Davis with real care.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The gaslight sconces out front stayed. So did the bones of the building. The garage doors open when the weather cooperates.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We came in late on a Friday, catching the final stretch of their brunch service. Hannah (I believe) was our server -- in training, which you wouldn't have guessed. She steered us well and managed the table (and the room) with a confidence that didn't feel performed. We started with the Barbecue Shrimp and the Oysters Rockefeller. The barbecue shrimp -- Georgia shrimp in a spiced, rich sauce served with toasts -- was good but the one I'd skip on a return visit. The Oysters Rockefeller are the opposite story: roasted, finished with creamed collards and parmesan, and genuinely one of the better bites I've had in recent memory. Order them. My husband had the Wassaw Redfish -- pan-seared over stone-ground grits with garlic beurre blanc and heirloom tomato. Clean, confident cooking. I had the Sunday fried chicken, which delivered exactly what that dish promises when it's done right. Sides of fresh green beans, South Georgia collards, and Erica's Famous Coleslaw held their own across the board. Dessert was the Key Lime Pie, served in a cup that does not prepare you for how good it is. Tart and creamy in the right proportion. We didn't leave any behind. The family's seafood history in Savannah goes back to 1946. You can feel that kind of depth in a kitchen -- not in any one dramatic bite, but in the steadiness of it all. read more

Visited Erica Davis Lowcountry while in Savannah after hearing plenty of positive reviews. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, and the staff was friendly, although our food took a bit longer than expected to arrive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered the Lowcountry Boil, which comes with shrimp, corn, potatoes, and sausage. The sausage and potatoes were good, and the seasoning was decent, but I was underwhelmed overall, especially considering the price. The shrimp didn't seem particularly fresh and had some white spots and discoloration that gave me the impression they may have been frozen for quite a while. As a result, the dish didn't quite live up to the hype for me. My wife ordered the Wassaw Redfish, which was recommended by our server, and that ended up being the standout dish of the meal. The redfish was cooked well, the garlic beurre blanc sauce was rich without being overwhelming, and the grits were creamy and flavorful. The shrimp and green beans complemented the dish nicely. Overall, the experience was mixed. The atmosphere was pleasant, and my wife's entrée was very good, but the Lowcountry Boil fell short of expectations. Really wanted to love this restaurant. Two of us both ordered the signature Shrimp and Grits, at the recommendation of the waitress. She expressed that it was her favorite dish and the favorite dish of many customers. The flavors were great, and interesting. The dish had the potential to be an 8/10 or 9/10, but it was so incredibly salty that it was nearly unbearable. The signature dish was a 6/10, maybe, as a result. If it was fine tuned, it could be a great dish. We also had the Fried Green Tomatoes. Very nice. Would order those again. They were delicious. One of our first restaurants after relocating to the Savannah area last month. And this was a great way to start our Love affair with the Savannah restaurant scene. We found this spot on yelp after driving around Central Savannah looking for a nice place to have lunch. I was in Savannah for a day to take my aunt to dinner for her birthday and not being familiar with dining in Savannah I went to Yelp and found Erica Davis Lowcountry. The recommendations of others was spot on. The food was outstanding, the service (shout out to Jamal for great service and recommendations, and the young lady that greeted you was exceptional as well) outstanding, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the restaurant was housed in an old service station that was so well remodeled.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] EDL had a store at the entrance of the restaurant with some really unique items. My family and I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Erica Davis Lowcountry. I had this spot bookmarked since it was close to our AirB&B when visit Savannah over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. They also had fried green tomatoes on their regular menu which made me want to go there even more! We came as a party of 5 and they were able to sit us inside as requested. All of the staff we encountered were all very friendly and helpful. Gotta love the southern hospitality! We ordered various dishes and even shared some as the portions were quite large! I loved the fried green tomatoes appetizer (what I came for), as well as the bourbon glazed brussels sprouts. The only disappointing thing that we encountered was that the mac-n-cheese that came as a side were all served cold. When we let the waitress know when she came back to check on us, they delivered fresh and hot mac-n-cheese's to us which was really great! Overall, the experience, presentation, food taste and quality were all really great and if I lived closer I would definitely visit on a regular basis! 10/10 recommend! read more

Swung by here for lunch with friends. Was seated right away as it was not too busy. There is a small patio and indoor seating option. Once our orders were placed food came out fairly quickly. I selected crab cakes which didn't disappoint with meat. A couple friends opted for shrimp items and another had a salad accompanied by the brisket. This place was my favorite restaurant we went to while visiting Savannah! The food was delicious, and the prices were very reasonable. I had the fried flounder, and for my sides I had the fried okra and the Savannah red rice. The fish was perfectly fried and flavorful. The rice and okra were great too. I really like that you get to pick what sides you want with the entrees, and there's a lot of options! My family loved their food as well. The fried oysters and the fried oyster po'boy were popular choices among them. They gave them an impressive amount of oysters for both dishes! The dessert was great too. We all shared the banana pudding and a slice of carrot cake, and our server was nice enough to bring us more plates and silverware to split it. As we neared Savannah I started looking for a place to grab a seafood lunch. Erica Davis popped out at me and I'm so glad we chose to come here. There is some parking in front of the restaurant and there is more in an additional parking lot. The restaurant is not very large and I'm so glad we came in when we did because it was packed by the time we left. We were quickly greeted and seated. Our server came right over and was friendly and knowledgeable. My husband and I both had the seafood platter with shrimp and flounder. You could also add oysters for an additional charge. I chose the brussel sprouts and grits as my sides. You could also get the cheese baked with cheese. My husband got the green beans. The food came out quickly and was piping hot. And oh so delicious. There were two flounder filets and eight shrimp. They were very lightly breaded and fried. I loved the taste of the tarter sauce they served. The brussel sprouts were amazing. The molasses gave them a sweet flavor. The grits were the lightest and airiest ones I've ever had. I'm used to grits being dense. These were light and puffy. So good. The green beans were crunchy. The portion sizes on the sides were very large. We both commented on how much food there was. I would definitely come back. Great food. Great service. Memorable meal. Was visiting Bonaventure Cemetery where my mother is buried and saw this cute spot right off the road nearby. It was a mildly cool and cloudy day but they had outdoor tables and my Shih tzu in a stroller was very welcome. Three of us had poor boys, 2 shrimp and one oyster. They were delicious and the bread was toasty and the seafood tasty. It was a little too much bread for me however but that is entirely on me. I should have gone with straight oyster or shrimp platter. I'm still mad at myself about it. I did ask for the fried okra to be served hot as I had read they had an issue with that and I live for fried okra when visiting the area. They came scorching hot and crunchy. I did have to take a star because my friend's crab stew was cold and our server didn't return until the end so she just ate it cold. She did like it however. I did look at other diner's plates because I'm nosy like that and everything looked really good. Next time I will definitely try the redfish. It was lunchtime however and I didn't want to be stuffed on my long ride back to Florida where okra and a decent fried oyster is nowhere to be found. At least in my neck of the woods. Great find outside of Savannah in Thunderbolt. Plenty of local seafood options on the menu along with BBQ. I went with the crab stuffed flounder and my partner had the red fish over grits. Crispy on the outside but oh so flaky on the inside. The crab cake was also blue crab and what I like to call " Baltimore style" so filled with crab and so little binding ingredients! Our sides were molasses Brussels sprouts( in which we were not a fan) coleslaw ( excellent) fried okra ( delicious, also perfectly fried) and Southern collard greens.
