They were out of meat. Would liked to have tried their brisket and pulled pork, but no luck. #spicemeister has to wait.

    St. Louis Ribs - slab
    Rob B.

So short notice from out of town family wanting to experience Detroit ribs. It was getting late so we did not have time to actually go to the city. A couple weeks ago we did one of the empty lot pop up ribs, chicken, sausage and so on hook ups. Those were on point I mean dang lip lick'n good and that was before the sauce. But this day, here we are. So we ordered a slab and my typical liking of brisket. I speculated with my wife how they were cooked so probably not fair to write except whatever the process on this day it was awfully opposite of right. The meats-the ribs taste were not there as in no seasoning and no smoke but moist and drop off the bone...like huh right! I pictured the video of a guy taking a pinch of seasoning then flinging it over the entire slab like ola. The beef brisket was not even a pinch ola ahead of the ribs. My wife goes something like the brisket may have been next to smoke but not in it. That was a pretty good one coming from her. I still had to hear the various excuse she offered up out of love. Hey! we had short notice, say a friend recommended... I was soooo angry and embarrassed that I ordered ribs from another rib spot. Yes! it was like that on this day. I hope that was just a bad rib day but will not find out in the future.

The Boar sandwich with a side of mac and cheese

Located behind the Victory Inn sits the Victory Smokehouse. It's a shipping container gone BBQ shack, decorated with mounted animal heads because what else screams "We want all the smoked meats?" I DO! Located on a big chalkboard is the menu which features meats, sides, and two signature sandwiches. Happy Hour is from 2 - 4 pm..usually the 2 meat combo for $10. If you chose to eat there, you can take it inside to the Victory Inn. If you order a side, you're given a poker chip to hand to the nice lady behind the counter when you first walk inside. You can sit outside, but there's only one picnic table and it's getting colder...besides, there are adult beverages inside...MMM Beer. Let me suggest The Boar sandwich - Brisket, Pulled Pork AND Pork Belly. A trifecta of meats all hot and ready and waiting to get sauced. Did I mention the sauce? I like both the sweet and signature. I like to combine my sauces...no regrets. The other sandwich, The Dirty D is Brisket and Pulled Pork. Still a solid choice. My go to side is the Mac and Cheese...but the slaw is pretty good also. Overall, great place for BBQ. Don't let the Friday - Sunday only hours discourage you. I usually head there on Friday during lunch hour. It can get busy but they move pretty quickly. In the words of wise William Shakespeare - "To barbecue or not to barbecue, that is the question."

Ok so I must say the Burnt Ends are yummy. My husband had the pulled pork he really liked it . The spicy bbq sauce was great for both dishes. Our granddaughter got just a simple Mac n Cheese...she loves her mac n cheese!!! Love the fact you order in back at a smokehouse shipping container and take your food up to the front building which is a bar. You give your poker chips to the counter girl there for your Baked Beans and Mac n Cheese. If your in the area check this place out!!

    Pork belly

Stopped here for take out because I had their pork belly and burnt ends when they were just starting out over 6 years ago. They were excellent at the time. Today i bought 1/2 lb of each. The pork belly was kind of dry and I didn't realize it was served already sauced. This was alittle disappointing. The burnt ends were great! Soft and moist!

Had a week's worth of classes at the Arsenal, and Victory was on my to-do list. So I made it there two times. Conveniently located with lots of parking. As others have mentioned, Victory's operations are a little disjointed. My first visit, we ate inside. The counter that you order the food only takes cash, charge cards are handled by the waitress and the bar. The hamburger was very average, the two of us who ordered them both said that it reminded us of Army mess hall burgers that have been stuck inside a warming pan for a long time. Burger, chips, and pickle was about $5. The smokehouse only sells the barbeque meats. They take charge cards & cash, but if you want any sides, you have to order them inside. Got some St. Louis ribs and burnt ends. Knew I wouldn't eat it until later for dinner, but I had to try some ribs and ends while they were hot. They were meaty, tasty, and pretty reasonable. It isn't my all-time favorite Michigan barbeque, but reasonable, convenient, and another Yelp Cashback business. A half rack was $12, and 1/4 lb of burnt ends were $5. The Smokehouse is only open Friday - Monday. Someplace to repeat when I'm in the area and recommend!

My husband picked it up, so I didn't get to check the place out, but he said it was an easier pickup despite how busy they were! Both bags had half a smoked chicken with coleslaw & corn along with an order of (I believe) rib tips. 1 bag had a burger & the other had a sausage. I'm super picky about chicken because it is so dry at most places. Not this chicken! It was flavorful & so juicy! The rib tips were a little dry but I don't typically order them so I'm not sure if that's normal or not for that part of the meat. We also absolutely LOVED the bbq sauce that was on the chicken & rib tips!! I'm not totally sure but we both felt that it tastes homemade! I did try the coleslaw but I wasn't a big fan & I did have to add salt & pepper to the corn. The sausage was delicious!! The burger was good, but it was very thick & personally I prefer thinner patties like a smashburger, but that's just my own preference. I would absolutely come back to try more of their food!

The staff of both establishments are friendly and polite. I recommend going on a Wednesday, which is when BBQ tacos are a special. I've tried 3 of those, most of the meats, and all the sides. The tacos I've had are beef brisket, pig belly burnt ends, and pulled pork. Of those, the burnt ends taco was the best, but all 3 were great. If you came here just for the tacos, I wouldn't blame you at all. As for the meats, I truthfully don't have a favorite, because they were all that good. The ribs were juicy and tender. The brisket looked and tasted just right. I didn't even need a knife to cut it. The meatloaf was unlike any I've ever had. It was incredibly tender and had a great, smoky flavor. Although pastrami is beef, it tasted like a very well seasoned ham. Most places I've gotten burnt ends from dry them out, but that is not the case here whatsoever. The pulled pork was standard compared to the rest of the meats, but still better than average. None of the sides disappoint. The beans appear runny, but were delicious. The mac had a generous amount of cheese, and wasn't dry either. I've only had collard greens a couple times, but I found it enjoyable. The potatoes were delightful, but what took them to the next level was the toum it was served with. Toum is a Lebanese garlic sauce. The slaw was creamy and flavorful. Blueberry cornbread is something I've never seen on a BBQ menu before. Both that and the pickles tasted as they were advertised. Smoked Lotus blew me away, and I'll even go as far as saying it's my new favorite, local spot for BBQ. Even the pricing is fair, especially for the quality you're getting. If you love BBQ and haven't been here yet, you're missing out.

One of the functional standards I have for an excellent cheeseburger is just give me your basic cheeseburger, minimal toppings, and ideally no burger sauces. I ordered the classic and while it did have mayo, ketchup, lettuce and tomato on it with a solid quarter pound patty, the meat on it's own was so perfectly cooked (and halal if that is important to you) that just cheese, meat and bun would have sufficed. Don't let appearances fool you. The location isn't much to look at, basically a takeout booth, but they do have a small seating section that is a mishmash of decorative ideas, some sports, some chess, some other random things. Despite its lack of traditional decorative aspects, there is charm in the way things seem to be part of what the owners genuinely enjoy in life. The food is delicious, and more than just burgers, and the service is courteous, quick and efficient. I think most burger fans will enjoy this spot greatly.

Walking into Detroit 75 Kitchen in Madison Heights for a quick lunch, my expectations were high!…read moreFrom a visual standpoint, the food looks simply irresistible on social. Before I even got to the food, the restaurant itself made a great first impression. The property is incredibly well maintained inside and out. There's a spacious outdoor patio for Michigan summer days, along with plenty of indoor seating ranging from communal tables for larger groups to individual booths if you're flying solo. It's a thoughtfully designed space that feels welcoming no matter why you're there. Now, let's talk about the food. I'll admit something that surprised me. I've been to Detroit probably 50 times, and I honestly can't remember ever hearing about a Detroit-style cheesesteak. Judging by the walls covered in awards and accolades, though, it's clearly something they're known for. The sandwich certainly sounds like a winner on paper: ribeye and sirloin, provolone and Swiss cheeses, roasted mushrooms and peppers, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, sweet pickled jalapeños, aioli, house-made vinaigrette, all served on a freshly baked sesame roll. I mean... what's not to love? Unfortunately, this is where my experience took a turn. The ingredients themselves are good. The flavors are there. The problem is the execution. The ratios are simply off. The freshly baked roll completely dominates the sandwich, overwhelming everything inside it. The steak gets lost between all that bread, and instead of each bite showcasing the beef, cheese, and vegetables working together, the bread becomes the star--and that's not what you want from a cheesesteak. I do want to give credit where it's due. The portions are generous, and I especially appreciated that they take the time to make their own dipping sauces for the fries. Little details like that don't go unnoticed. There are plenty of positives here, and it's easy to see why Detroit 75 Kitchen has earned such a loyal following. But as someone who takes sandwiches seriously, I think this one is technically flawed. A great sandwich is all about balance, and for me, this one never found it. I genuinely wanted to love it. This sandwich lover just couldn't get behind the way it was built.
