Just got off my plane and this was my first time in New Jersey, so I decided to try this bakery:…read more The bacon egg and cheese ($5.99) was honestly really good. It came on a mollete roll that was crispy on the outside, and everything worked well together. Definitely my favorite thing I got. The pastel de nata was also solid -- nice light, crispy crust with a smooth, creamy filling. The Brazilian cheese bread (3 for $1) wasn't great though. It was chewy but it didn't taste fresh, so it wasn't crispy and ended up being kind of dense. Same with the beef empanada ($2.99) -- I'd probably skip it. The filling was dry, crumbly, and didn't have much flavor, just plain ground beef. Overall, I won't be back in New Jersey anytime soon, but coming from California it felt really cheap for a local spot. If I do come back, I'd probably try a different place.

Whether you're grabbing something quick to go or sitting down to enjoy a coffee and pastry, there's plenty of room and it never feels chaotic. It's one of those places that's stood the test of time for a reason -- consistent, authentic, and always delicious.

The pastry is PERFECTLY flaky and crisp, a perfect size, and packed to the absolute brim with filling! Based on the other reviews I'll def have to come back and try the beef and pulled pork~! I placed an order for pickup on DoorDash and I was shocked by how fast I got the notification that they were already hot and ready for me and when got there I was super pleased by how warm I could tell they were just by holding the bottom of the box! Side note to the owner/owners unrelated to the food, I love all the houseplants in there, the pop of color is SO PRETTY and really makes the shop feel comfy!

They are popular in countries all around the world, and the filling options are just as varied. Enjoy them for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, served as an appetizer or main dish. Opened just two years ago in a little strip mall consisting of 2 stores off S Main St in Lodi, I came to Empanadas NJ Cafe as a first-timer for lunch. Upon entering this cozy shop with 3 tables for dining, I was greeted by the staff at his family-owned/family-run establishment specializing in Argentinian empanadas. These, put simply, are savory baked hand-held pastries. A large selection menu featured everything from Beef, Chicken, Ham & Cheese to Apple Pie, Hawaiian, and Guava & Cheese. One can't go wrong with any of the options. After speaking with Lucas, the owners' son, he recommended their popular Beef, Chicken, and Cuban Empanadas. They arrived hot. Each empanada was identified with the initials on the left side border. The shells were not greasy. They were packed full with the flavorful fillings with the accompanied Chimichurri sauce and were delicious. The price was comparable to the area. The staff was friendly and helpful; the service was fast. They've gotten so popular that a second location has been announced in Boonton. It was worth every minute, which I can recommend.

I was asked 3x if I wanted flavored syrup. I politely said no. Not something I've never been asked before when ordering a cappuccino. The empanadas had this giant red name stamps on them. I wanted to order one but was not sure about the big red labeling. Turned me off to them. I ordered a ham/cheese croissant to go with the coffee. The croissant was super sweet and was a bold contrast to the ham/cheese combination. I really did not expect that. The staff wasn't rude but they weren't friendly either lol they were kinda just there. The space is super super tiny. It was myself an one other person but if she were to have stood up or someone came in we'd be on top of each other I was a bit confused on where to find the menu at first. They had a chalkboard with items on it for basic stuff . The cost was decent . Overall spent $8 The food and coffee was ok to me. Can't say I was impressed This cafe wasn't really for me and nothing stood out about it . Maybe others will have a different experience than I had but I will not be returning .
