Ice cream is a bit icy but the flavors are good. The Victoria chamoy mango wasn't very ripe. Had ordered vanilla ice cream with gummy worms and rainbow sprinkles but ended up with peach rings for some reason (there were plenty of worms). The service was slow but there was only one employee working so that makes sense. The decor is super fun and colorful. Love the music (bad bunny etc) and huge selection of outdoor kids play equipment, photo ops are wonderful, and covered seating (umbrella tables). This is a great place for anyone and there is a wide variety of options ranging from paletas to banana split sundaes and Mexican slush desserts etc. I really feel like there is something for everyone. We did get a lot of mosquito bites while sitting outside and there are a lot of baby ants crawling over the seating area but I mean with hot summer days and melting ice cream it's inevitable. Super cute place and definitely recommend a visit. They also have free plastic la michoacana premium cups up front by the register and they sell random stuff like headphones and charging cables. When you first walk in I believe there is a currency exchange or credit union to your right hand side. It is tucked away on a somewhat busy road and the parking lot is somewhat small but we didn't have any trouble getting a spot on a Friday afternoon. This is one of my favorite ice cream places in Triangle. I always forget what my go-to order is at La Michoacana, so I decided to leave a Yelp review for me to refer back to for my next visit. #24 Raspanieve with strawberry jam.... is life changing. You have to choose an ice flavor, but that is not that important in my opinion. Strawberry jam ice cream by itself is fantastic, but it tastes better with shaved ice! Service is fast enough. Each order, if you take a look at the menu, is quite elaborative unless you are ordering something simple. So the wait can take some time, but it's no biggie. There are lots of seating areas outside and inside as well. There are paper towels everywhere in case you drop ice cream everywhere like me. They have a very extensive menu of items that you can buy. I brought a strawberry shake that was topped with a piece of cheesecake with strawberry topping, whipped cream, and vanilla wafers. The way that the dessert is prepared made it hard to carry the dessert outside without fear of dropping something. The clerk was nice and provided me with foil to deconstruct my dessert. I wanted Latin style shaved ice. Upon arrival I took my time to peruse the menu and was greeted. I decided on the #24 Raspanieve. Raspanieve is a Mexican dessert consisting of shaved ice, flavored syrup, and sometimes fresh fruit and ice cream.Its very rich and dense and refreshingly cold for a hot day. The young lady at the counter was very beautiful and offered excellent customer service. She smiled and was kind enough to share with me all of the flavors. You must choose 1 flavor for the shaved ice and 1 flavor for the ice cream. I spent some time in the adorable yard that features a cute playground, and lots of outdoor seating. Once prepared I received a humongous cup of shaved ice topped with coconut ice cream. My family is from Jamaica, so coconut ice cream is a favorite of mine. This ice cream was some of the best I've had in a while. Huge coconut shavings ! The mango flavored shaved ice was so crunchy and cold ! This combination with the condensed milk is paradise in a cup. You can share this because it's so much for the value ! They are not skimpy and give you a lot of dessert . They also take their time making your cup beautiful. So for starters the menu is overwhelming it's about 54 options to choose from , not including the ice cream on display and other frozen treats. What I didn't like was no prices were posted. My drink was considering a small and was $12 and some change , the large size was $17 and some change. Overpriced if you ask me. The drink was ok , the strawberries in it weren't fully ripe. Only had one person working behind the corner and for a nice day outside the place can get a little busy. Outside in front of the store they had a lot of decorations and picnic tables to sit at. I have been here a few times, and I really do like the ice cream. I prefer here over BR because I some of the ice cream choices are more flavorful. I will say that most of the signage is in Spanish, and not all of the staff are fluent in English, but they do have picture menus hanging from the ceiling. It reminds me of La Vida Dulce in Cary and Knightdale. The outside is bright with lots of animal carvings strewn around a small play area for kids. You won't miss the giant polar bear! There are about 10 parking spots in a small lot in front of the building (unsure what they do on busy summer nights). Upon walking inside you're greeted with lots of bright colors and a very large menu to choose from. (I was a bit overwhelmed.) Oddly, prices aren't listed anywhere, but my items seemed reasonably priced when added up. Look up to see a menu which has photos of the items, helpful given there is so much to choose from... ice cream, milkshakes (some crazy ones with a full piece of cheesecake on top), popsicles, frozen ice, churro sundaes, banana splits and more. What a chill place to spend an afternoon. La Michoacana is a cool ambience to hang out in on a hot evening. We got there within 30 minutes of them closing, so shoutout for the staff - they were being so great. They were nothing but pleasant while we chose our treats. They have a large menu that is largely (99%) in Spanish, but don't be intimidated; there is photos so you can see what you're getting. I had guava and lime, which were closer to shaved ice or sherbet rather than ice cream, but the flavors were spot on! It tasted just like the fruit and was not overwhelming or too sweet! Exactly what I wanted. My wife got cherry and Mexican vanilla. She said the cherry was normal but that the Mexican was outstanding! I tried a little too and it was very creamy and had that perfect Mexican vanilla flavor (it was my personal favorite). I got to the front of the line and one lady didn't speak English, but said no when i showed her the picture. Went here after a stop to the La Tapatia market next door and I was floored by how BIG this place was! Their menu is also enormous - they have everything from paletas to pina coladas to churros. I got fresca con crema, cafe, pina con chile and mango con chie paletas (very spicy) to go. Also got to practice some of my gringa Spanish while I was there - would definitely come back again! This is a Mexican ice cream joint that is off the main strip of Wake Forest Rd and in front of a granite shop. They may even share an owner since the interior had a lot of beautiful granite and marble everywhere. It's hard to know where to begin. I had just picked up my car from the mechanic with my family and we were all in the mood for ice cream. We saw this was close so we took a chance. Wow! First, the shop is so colorful and fun I was immediately ready for treats as soon as I walked in. They had long counters of all kinds of hand scooped frozen stuff. There appeared to be a large selection of non-dairy ices as well. To the far left were cases of ice cream popsicles that had fruit or cookies visible in them. Everything is in Spanish but it did not matter. They were incredibly helpful explaining all the flavors and giving samples. My boys got standard stuff, mint chocolate chip (very strong mint, I loved it but the wife said it was too much like toothpaste) and cookies and cream (really rich. obviously a premium, higher fat ice cream. So good). My wife got a tart yogurt popsicle that had large sliced strawberries and kiwi in it. She doesn't like things too sweet and was in love with this bar. I tried it and it was mildly sweet with a pronounced tartness from the yogurt. Now I have to apologize for not knowing what I got. He told me the name but I don't remember but I can describe it. It was this giant cup of fresh mango with scoops of a tamarind and chili flavored sorbet, some kind of tamarind syrup and chili powder on top. It blew my mind! It was spicy, sweet, savory, salty, and ice cold all at the same time! If you are over Wake Forest Rd way and are in the mood for a treat you have to give this place a try. It doesn't look like much on the outside but it has something for you wether you go for standards like my children or want to be more adventurous like me. I will be going back here. Hand churned Mexican ice creams and popsicles. Flavors are in Spanish and the selection is overwhelming but they are super friendly, helpful and generously let you try multiple flavors. The best flavor we tried hands down was the pineapple coconut - dense, rich and full of flavor without being too sweet. We also got the chocolate and mango sorbet which were yummy too.
