    Chili oil

Wow. Hands down the best Vietnamese food I have ever had, not even just on Oahu. The French dip is one of the best things i have ever eaten. The pho broth that comes with is the perfect level of savory and light and warm. The beef is perfectly tender, and the bread is just right balance of crunch and softness. I could eat this French dip every day. The vermicelli noodle bowl was also delicious and I loved the crispiness and sauce of the tofu. The Thai tea was the right level of sweetness, and the chili oil. That homemade chili oil is something else. It's aromatic, fresh, and utterly delectable. It was so good we bought a jar of it. Service was very quick and the owners working it were so friendly and hospitable. Food came out fresh and fast, and though there is limited seating, tables seem to move quickly. The ambience is no frills, clean, and cozy. I can't wait to come back!

Service was excellent for take out. They have several pictures of their food on the wall. It's a nice cozy place. The chicken salad looks good and I'll probably try it next time. I ordered a lemongrass chicken sandwich and a pho.

I've heard nothing but good things about Viet Chubby Boy - situated in the Kapalama Shopping Plaza, on North King Street. The name alone made me want to guve them a try. I walked in off peak lunch hours - 130p - and they were still quite busy with in-dining customers and takeaway orders. Requested their Beef Stew Noodle Soup. You have a choice of egg or rice noodles, I got the latter. Bò Kho with vermicelli. The beef broth was sweet with plenty of onions. Dish came with the typical accoutrements one would get with Pho - the Hoisin was mixed with chili oil. The broth was good and the chunks of chuck roast were tender and with carrots...kinda looked like local style beef stew...sorta. Also, got an Iced Vietnamese Coffee. Strong and sweet as one comes to expect. Robusta coffee is SE Asian coffee is definitely underrated. Hours are 1000a to 1000p daily, except Sundays, when they're closed. A few tables ...about six or seven...make up an L-shaped dining area. Parking stalls align the strip mall which is shared with a liquor store and other eateries. They are directly across from the old Diners ( now Upscale Hawaii ) and have been for the past three years.

My family loves this place! The staff/owners are so kind and helpful. Food came out quick and everything was delicious. The first time I came I had the lemongrass chicken bahn mi. It was delicious, definitely had a kick to it (if your spice tolerance is fairly low like mine). This time I had the French dip and it was great as well. Will definitely be back to try their pho as I see so many people raving about it.

Complimentary chili sauce they give. Can be used for anything

Viet Chubby Boy is a nice tiny but homey restaurant. I've seen their menu before and it looked good, i figured it would be nice to try their banh mis. I got the lemongrass beef sandwich which was really good! It lives up to its name. The lemongrass came thru nicely, i appreciated the bold flavor. It's also fairly filling too. What stood out even more was their beef pho! I was surprised by how good their broth was. For whatever reason it felt really authentic and well balanced. It had this natural sweetness to it. Its something I'll definitely come back for.

Wanted to try this place after some friends said they enjoy it! Located in Kalihi in same cluster as Diners. Clean bright spot that's in the old saimin house location. Ordered some spring rolls, combo pho, Thai iced coffee. Spring rolls were nothing special. Tight thin rolls with standard fixings. Romaine lettuce was a little different as there were 2 big leaves. Pho was a nice clear broth with a clean taste. Noodles were thin and not stuck together in a ball. Ample amounts of beef. The special sauce they serve had nice flavor, kind of like Chinese XO sauce but different?? The people working there seemed like husband/wife and were super friendly and always refilled my water. Thai coffee was good. Would I come back? Most definitely!

I ordered the n10 beef Vermicelli bowl with lemongrass beef. I thought it was pretty good but it wasn't as much of a taste bud party as the pork vermicelli bowl which included spring roll, that I had before. For me, I think it was that I didn't really taste much lemongrass which is one of my favorite spices. I really like the intimacy of this restaurant. There's not a whole lot of seating, but the staff are quick to help you out or make sure your glass is full. This is a solid place for us to go to when we're in Honolulu.

I LOVE VIET CHUBBY BOY! My coworkers and I bring up ordering from them at least once a week. We all know what we want and it's the pho french dip sandwich! If there's anything you have to try it's this specific sandwich. It's so flavorful and delish! The meat is tender and packed with seasoning. And I like how the bean sprouts were cooked since it gets rid of the bitter taste the fresh ones add. They're super easy to order with over the phone and to pick up. I think they actually know who I am... since they start ringing me up when I walk in?? We've even optimized the route we take for maximum time on lunch but I would love to eat there in person for lunch so the food is extra extra fresh :)

Love this place. The food is very tasty and service is excellent. Order the tamirand sauce with your meals. Your taste buds will explode! Ample free parking. Restaurant is clean. Employees are friendly. Price point is excellent. Whether you're famished or simply want to eat something, you will find the perfect dish on the menu to satisfy your cravings.

I've been wanting to try Viet Chubby Boy for about 2 years now. They are located in the same lot as Gueib Cafe, Sakana Grill & Upscale Hawai'i. Parking is tight but if you come during off hours, there are lots of open stalls. Recently Yelp GF told me that he tried their French Dip (Banh Mi) and said it was amazing. It was the nudge I needed to finally go down and give them a try. I decided to order their French Dip to go. Since I was in a rush, I called my order in and it only took them about 15-20 minutes to get my order ready. Customer service was friendly and the place was pretty busy with people waiting for their take out orders. The drive home was fragrant and got me excited for my first bite. I thought the sandwich would have more roasted beef brisket but it was mostly bean sprouts. When I could taste the brisket, it was good but almost every bite tasted only like bean sprouts. I used up the container of their saute sauce in a few bites to try drown out the dominant bean sprout taste. Their saute sauce was quite tasty. Good thing I have a lot of saute sauce at home so I could finish the banh mi. Their broth is on the sweeter side and I liked that they have a lot of sliced onion in it. Personally, I was disappointed but if the sandwich had more brisket and not as much bean sprouts, I think it could have been quite good.

My first time trying this Vietnamese restaurant. I went during off hours, so plenty of parking and I was the only customer. The dining area is small, but very cozy with minimal decor. The menu is extensive typical of a Vietnamese restaurant, but I am here to try the Pho. The broth is very light, but beefy. Not too sweet. But its missing the essence of the spices, like the cinnamon, star anise, cloves, coriander seeds, cardamom and fennel. Also the smokiness of the onions and ginger. I just prefer my pho broth to be heavier on the spices. But I still enjoyed it. The rice noodles was perfect, and the meat toppings is a little on the stingy side. Also only one size bowl. I also tried the Summer Rolls with BBQ Pork. It was just average to me. Service was good, attentive and refilled my water when needed. Came to check on me a couple of time. My Mom called me while eating and I ended up ordering the Chicken Pho for take out for my Mom. They did get busier after I sat down with mostly take out orders. I will definitely come back again. I like the convenience of satisfying my Pho cravings and I don't have to drive to downtown/Chinatown.

Upon stepping foot in Phở Quê Hương, I was transported back to Vietnam (or Orange County, California-- have your pick). Phở Quê Hương is located in Honolulu's Chinatown, so we get an interesting demographic mix of diners. (I believe I observed at least one Hoa family order in Vietnamese and then converse in a Chinese language.) I wasn't so attentive to the precise linguistic profiles of my fellow diners because of how distracted I was by the food. However, it is a salient pattern I am observing in Honolulu: seeing many non-Viet people coming to eat Viet food. I know Vietnamese cuisine has become more globally mainstream, but I suppose I am so used to existing in Vietnamese ethnic enclaves. The menu offers a great selection of Vietnamese food, including dishes I had never had before. The bún chả Đà Nẵng is not at all similar to a bún chả Hà Nội, so don't get them mixed up! Bún chả Đà Nẵng was more like a bún riêu without the riêu: a nice tomato soup with a serious umami flavor going on. (I was getting notes of cheese even, in a really good way.) My first time having a non-vegetarian bò lá lốt was here. It was tasty, although I was getting a spicy note that I wasn't sure where it was coming from. The tràng đặc biệt was delicious and familiar. I always love wrapping things (amateurishly) with rice paper. The name "Phở Quê Hương" is apt, but it isn't just phở but rather all the dishes that feel like they arrived straight from Vietnam. If you are interested in more traditional Vietnamese fare, give this place a try.

I heard they will keep this space for special events. The restaurant is quite busy and I'm glad we had reservations. Good thing I was there prior to lunch hour opening, otherwise we may lose our reservations since the person who made reservations tends to be habitual in arriving late. We dined in May, but it's been awhile since I first dined here. I preferred dining in Chinatown during lunch time than at dinner. Our waiter was really nice and helpful. I forgot his name, but I remembered that his eyeglasses that he wore was cool/funny, since the frames for each eye didn't match the other eye! lol. Funny it wasn't me who first noticed it. One was square frame and the other was a round frame! The restaurant doesn't do anything special for birthdays except may write Happy Birthday in chocolate on the dessert plate that you purchase for the birthday person. Their desserts are unique and refreshing. I think there are some rotating desserts /flavors like their seasonal menu for their main menu. I guess you can always keep coming back without being bored of the menu! I was bummed to see a previous dish posted of a pasta that I wanted to try that wasn't on the current spring seasonal menu! When we dined for brunch over the weekend, I was able to get the Hainan chicken with the crispy roast pork combo. It was very filling , tasty and satisfying. I do love ginger sauce on the cold ginger chicken but sometimes the chicken is just okay. This Hainan chicken was really good and the chicken was really moist! I thought it was the best I've tried! It was good that I wanted to takeout one last time in August before they moved! No more the 50/50 combo with the crispy roast pork on the lunch menu during the weekday. It was on the spring menu. Of course it's best to eat it in the restaurant than for take out. Bathroom is a must for me when dining out and they had only one shared bathroom for everyone! There was a guy who tried to make several attempts but wasn't successful, since there was always someone in the restroom. I'm glad the waiter told me there was a bigger separate bathroom with several stalls for men and ladies upstairs. You go straight through the kitchen to catch the elevator and to another kitchen /storage area! Thank Goodness! Best wishes at your new location. You offer yummy and tasty food!

The food is authentic and super delicious; the pho broth is the best that I have tasted, very clean and no msg (at least I can't tell). We have tried a lot of the menu items throughout the years; our favorites are: - combination pho - rare steak and meatballs pho - oxtails soup/pho - grilled pork chop rice - crispy spring rolls - summer rolls - beef salad (my wife's favorite, she orders it every time) - roasted pork and lemon grass chicken banh mi sandwiches - roasted pork and spring roll vermicelli bowl - the special combo wrap (very tasty but you have to wrap it yourself; some may think it is fun, but I am lazy and prefer to have it made and ready to eat) The prices are very reasonable, they haven't raised the prices much even when the food cost keeps going up. I believe they have some deserts, but we have never tried any, because their portion sizes are generous and we're usually too full to think about deserts. Park is s street parking, but we usually park in the municipal lot across the street. The rate is very reasonable, a couple dollars for a couple of hours. There was a 2-for special on the cocktails and you could select from the full menu which featured an extravagant and eclectic selection. There were wine and beer specials too but we were here for the cocktails. From the happy hour menu, we ordered the vegan spring rolls, chicken wings, and the Bo Ne Steak--a Vietnamese breakfast with bone marrow, cubed steak, sunny side eggs and a baguette. I can vouch for the spring rolls, light and crunchy without being oily. I don't eat land animals but my friend said the wings were divine. And they give you gloves to eat them. So civilized (ha) and a nice touch! She loved the bone marrow and steak. There was so much food she didn't finish it so I took it home to the hubby who devoured it. No complaints and only smiles from him! I wanted to try a couple pescatarian dishes from the regular menu so ordered the lemongrass clams which was AH-mazing! Could have been my favorite dish of the night because the flavors were unexpected but undeniably good. And, the garlic salmon bun (vermicelli noodles) was fantastic. The fish was cooked perfectly and the sauce was savory yet light. I've never seen this option at any other Vietnamese restaurant and it certainly elevates the traditional dish which usually comes with meat, tofu, or spring rolls. (You can still order the bun with these options and they let you choose your protein combos.) Finally, (I told you there was a lot of food) we ordered the banana blossom salad. I rarely see this offering at other Vietnamese restaurants. It's hard to describe but I refer to this dish as the red-carpet version of the green papaya salad. It's more dressed up and sophisticated. A real treat and a must-have if you're dining at An Di Dzo. Parking was easy since it's at Ward (by the theaters or you can park anywhere in the village). The restaurant is clean and modern. And the service was courteous and professional. Our server Alex was great and made the evening extra special. An Di Dzo is open for lunch and dinner. They also offer some vegan options so I'll be back. Hubby enjoyed the leftovers so much he wants to give it a dine-in try. You don't have to ask me twice! Highly recommend you give them a try, too.

I'd love to say that Thuong An Lac is very true to its name of everlasting happiness and love…read more Everything is made with love and intention and I left feeling very good afterwards. Chinatown has a lot of crime and homeless in the area so I would firstly recommend to go when the market is busy! 7am-12pm is a sweet spot where the food, produce and everything in the area comes alive. I'm Vietnamese and it was a very affirming and comforting experience for me when so many other Vietnamese folks came first thing in the morning to get their grub at Thuong An Lac. That's when you know you've found THE spot. Major Recommendations: -Viet Iced Coffee (prob the best you'll find on island easily) -Beef Stew + Baguette (so HEARTY. I've had both vegan and non vegan beef stews and it's spot on) We loved everything we got there. The water they serve you has pandan in it and tastes very very good. I still think about it!! There's so much love squeezed into everything they have there. They also sell a lot of snacks that they make and it's honestly FIRE as well. A lot of customers came in for the snacks too. Parking: There's a lot of nearby parking ranging from $2-6. A lot of people opt for the Chinatown municipal parking. It'll be a bit of a walk so plan accordingly. The restaurant is small and can only have a few parties in at a time. It's no frills but feels like you're just visiting your Aunt or Grandma's house. Prices are fair, not overpriced. Fun fact, they're TOP 100 vegan restaurants in the US. You're in for a treat. Please note: they only take cash tips! Consider this if you go :)

It's tucked away in the entrance of Chinatown Market, making it a true hidden gem. My favorite is the "beef" noodle soup. The broth is incredibly rich and flavorful--you'd never guess it's completely vegan. I also highly recommend the taro spring rolls, which are crispy, delicious, and the perfect appetizer. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so it may not be able to accommodate larger groups. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. As someone who loves noodle soup, I appreciate being able to enjoy such a satisfying meal while knowing it's entirely plant-based. I'll definitely be back!

Been wanting to try Vietnamese food that wasn't Pho or Bahn Mi…read more Got the beef salad and for someone who doesn't eat rabbit food, I gotta admit it was good. The dressing was really good. You already know the beef was good or it wouldn't get a good review from me. Got the spring rolls which was nice and hot. Wrapped the spring roll, noodles and the carrot & daikon with the lettuce and dipped it into the sauce. Winnahs. For the main entrees got the crispy fried noodles with seafood. It's like the Vietnamese version of Chinese seafood with cake noodles. Very crunchy and tasty. Lots of seafood. The other entree was the combo sizling plate. Yes, the plate was sizling. The plate had pate, sausage, meatball, beef and a fried egg. I've never tasted anything like that before. It's not the usual taste that you're accustomed to but i enjoyed it. I thought it was good. Both entrees and the salad are good serving size. I like the spring rolls and wish had more but that's just me. The service is excellent even though it was pretty busy. The waiter apologized for being late but it was quite understandable. He's so polite. The lady who might be the owner was very pleasant and personable. It was a very good experience. The only thing that might be a slight problem like any other restaurant on Kapahulu is parking.

I'm usually more of a spring roll person, but these were so good and something I'd definitely order again. I had the brisket pho, and my boyfriend got the beef and flank pho. Both were delicious, and the broth was flavorful and comforting. I'm pretty particular about Thai tea, but theirs is always really good. The restaurant is small and fills up quickly. The service is always good and the food comes out fast. If you're in the Aiea area and looking for a solid pho spot, Pho Time is worth a visit!

When I placed my order, I told the woman, "no cilantro" on anything. When I received my order, the soup was missing. When the woman brought the soup, I said again, "no cilantro." She said, yes. I paid and left. When I got home, I opened the salad and noticed a pile of basil and what appeared to be cilantro. It tasted like cilantro, too. So, I went back to the restaurant to return my order, as I no longer wanted any of it. When I got there, the woman told me that isn't cilantro, it's "culantro." She said she would refund my salad, but not the sandwich and proceeded to argue with me that she was doing me a favor because the salad did not have cilantro, even though she very well knows they taste the same. In any case, I left my entire order and was only refunded for the salad. I will dispute with my cc company. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE
