Shout out to Viet Pho restaurant on Tuolumne St. My wife and I stopped by for some pho to beat the cold weather. We were promptly greeted by the wonderful friendly owners. We ordered the pho, pork chop rice plate, fresh spring rolls, thai tea and an avocado shake. We had some nice light conversation with the owner about local business and the new 168 market. Food came out a few minutes later , we said our thank you's and bye's then headed home. The pho broth is delicious. It has the gorgeous clear beef color and you can taste the deep beef and spices. First time coming here, I was excited because it seems like it's one of the highly rated Vietnamese restaurants out here and we were disappointed, the restaurant looks very dirty especially the walls, there was only 1 server and 1 cook. The service wasn't the best it's very ugly in there, there were hairs on the outside of the chili oil, I didn't like that that sauces like the soy sauce and chili oil have a plastic spoon inside who knows how many germs is on that spoon. Best vietnamese food I've had in a really long time. The owners are a sweet couple from Hue Vietnam. They were so great and the food was phenomenal especially for the price. The bun bo hue is something that I am particularly obsessed with!! There is something really special about the food here. The taste is extremely homemade feeling and reminds me of the food I tasted back when traveling to Vietnam. There are around 10 tables and it's a small place but still lovely. My daughter has the flu and wanted pho. B4 satisfied her cravings. She loved all the assorted meats in it. She also ate most of the fresh spring rolls. Other daughter had flank steak pho that she ate before I can take a photo. Had C3 pork, egg and egg roll combo. Also saw a picture of the banana leaf wrapped glutinous rice with minced pork and shrimp that I had to try and loved. The young couple that owned the shop were so kind and friendly. I started chatting with them and they were nice enough to give me a free iced tea. They are from Ohio and are new to Vallejo. Their chicken pho is delicious. The broth was so very yummy. I wasn't sure what the different noodles were, but the lady there was kind enough to help me figure out out. We were passing by Vallejo around lunch time and decided to find a local spot and stumbled upon this mom and pop restaurant. Viet Pho is in a plaza but it's not really visible. The realty next to it is quite eye catching...so if you can't find this place, look for a Realty sign first and then find a restaurant next to it. The P1 pho was excellent . The chicken pho was mediocre in comparison. The C1 rice plate was decent. The portions were huge overall. Absolutely terrible customer service the worst that I've ever had in any restaurant. It was 12 o'clock on a Thursday the 19th I walked in there because it was close to my house. I have seen people talking about it so I thought I would try it out. I looked at the menu that's taped all over the front window.. There's approximately 10 tables in there. There wasn't one person in the restaurant. The gentleman kind of yelled from the back room to me. I sat down at the table and was looking at the menu and I was wanting some soup since I was feeling a little ill, but I wanted to try the restaurant out and they advertise sandwiches for seven dollars immediately I told him I'll have a grilled Vietnamese sandwich. His child came out of the back room about three years old. He was messing with her and he said something to me. I didn't understand him. I said what, he said it is only for to go. Within seconds his wife came out of the back room and told me that the sandwiches are only to go! I asked them why she said because you would fill up the tables in here. I told her there's not one person in here at the 10 tables I want to try your food and then I might get some soup. Also, she shinned me on and walked into the back room and that was it I left.. It was the worst customer service I've had in any restaurant in my lifetime. I left and went down the street to the other Vietnamese restaurant where I was properly greeted. Ask where I want to sit I was given a menu and I had an incredible dinner lunch. When you are in the business of Customer service, you don't treat your customers like that . I would never recommend it I or any of my friends will never eat there if it was so popular at 12 o'clock there should be people in their restaurants. Went with my wife and son. Ordered spring rolls, fried rice, and an XL bowl of Pho. Gave my son some noodles and broth and a small plate of fried rice. Although he typically prefers fried rice, he finished both and asked for more Pho. An endorsement from a picky 5 year old should tell you how great this place is. You can tell that the owners really care about the restaurant from how clean everything is and how nice they treat everyone. Whenever we have plans to be in the area, we make a point of stopping in. Very disappointed in this place! I guess I was hoping that it would rival the other pho restaurants in our town but it doesn't even reach parity. I didn't order the pho or banh mi, silly me I ordered the pad see ew and fresh spring rolls and expresso and condensed milk. The fresh rolls were just ok, it would have been nice to have something herby or spicy like mint or thai basil in the wrap. Instead the roll had lettuce, cucumber and rice noodles with the shrimp. Kind of bland but the peanut sauce was ok. I added some hot sauce to perk it up. The worst thing was the pad see ew which looked like reheated pad thai. It was way too sweet and the noodles had no texture. Yuck, I couldn't eat it and when I complained I was told that many customers just loved it and they charged me for it! The coffee was the thinnest I've ever had. It looked like they just used regular coffee and added milk and sugar. I won't go back because the food and service (concern for customers) were both bad and it didn't appear as though it mattered to them. They are young and I hope they make it but my advice to them is to go to any restaurant and compare their food against the competition. Last week I seen they added banh mi to the menu and I tried to place a phone order but no one was answering so I decided to go there but they were closed and it was only 7:30pm. Worst banh mi ever, so disappointed. The bread was at least a day old, tasteless, dry and crumbly. The pork cold cut was a little gummy (!) Mayo, seasonings and pate were barely noticeable. No jalapeno, a single sprig of tired cilantro and a few strands of pickled carrots that were more sweet than pickled. The only ingredient that tasted fresh was the cucumber. I've never had a bad banh mi anywhere, but this one took the cake. First impression is lasting. I will not return. read more
