I am a huuge pho guy, and Vietopia is a solid option to get a bowl of pho in Harrisonburg. However I am from Northern VA, and I have had better bowls of pho up there than here. Their broth is pretty bland, and their beef can sometimes taste a little gamey. Don't get me wrong though, I am a regular customer and usually come here twice a month. Stopped by for a quick dinner before heading home. The restaurant is decently sized and were very quick to seat our party of 5. We ordered a variety of things from pho, to vermicelli (pictured below), to banh mi, to spring rolls! First I have to say the spring rolls were HUGE. Two rolls came with an order and they are definitely enough to keep me full. I loved the grilled pork in the vermicelli and it tastes just as delicious in the spring rolls and banh mi. I live around Washington D.C. where I can find several PH restaurants run by Vietnamese. I am a Vietnamese so I know where you can find the best PH. D.C. has ones of the best PH in USA such as Ph 75. However, I was surprised when I ate PH at Vietopia the first time when I took my daughter here to attend the first year classes at JMU over 3 years ago. Ph is so delicious with a taste little different from Ph 75 in D.C. From then anytime I visit my daughter at JMU, I always take my whole family Vietopia for a lunch or dinner. Not the best Phó I've ever had but it satisfies my cravings. It's super small inside with like 6 4 top tables and one big table in the middle that could hold like 20. Prices are a bit on the higher side for the size bowl you get but it's the only Phó place you can get around here unless you want to drive to Staunton. read more

Went for lunch on a Sunday, nice mixed crowd, you'd expect the food to be decent because the restaurant is sort of hidden off the main road next to a Food Lion. The decor is clean, bright and dinner-ish. Menu is simple but has all the favorites: summer rolls (called spring here, not fried), egg rolls, banh mi sandwiches, pho and various noodle and rice dishes. Everything our group tried was excellent. Portions are large. I could have made two meals out of the summer rolls and pho. Service is attentive, prices very reasonable ($5 for a roast pork banh mi that completely crushes any sandwich you might order at Subway for more money). Not a date place (not first date anyway) but good for friends and students. Great quality, taste, service and prices earns 5 stars for me. read more

Disappointing. I am from Northern VA where there are tons of good Vietnamese places. This place would not survive up there. The food is average to below average. The servers and staff are nice enough, but we will not go back. Also, in a rare departure from our usual practice, we ended up throwing out the leftovers we brought home. Great experience! Service was friendly and fast. I was only in town overnight and focused on feeding a craving. Menu provided a great variety and number of options. I went with Pho on my mind, so there was no changing it. I ordered up A10. Tai Bo Vien and it was served quick. Broth was great straight from the kitchen. You wouldn't expect to find a five star restaurant in a strip mall at Harrisonburg, Virginia but you can in the shape of Vietopia. Absolutely love the pho here! Tried it at a few other places in the burg and this tops all. There are so many different options but I usually get the meatballs in mine. It gets pretty packed for dinner, especially with the cold weather, but I never have to wait more than 5 minutes for a table. Definitely recommend trying out! read more

a nice little place on the corner. Im from southern california and im a journey man for a few months so its hard for me to find a good Pho spot when im on the road. I been to a few different pho spots in Tennessee, Georgia,New york and Boston. I would say this little place is as good as the Pho in California. I give this place a 5 Star. It was so good i had to come two days in a row. Highly recommend this place when your craving for some Vietnamese soup. Adore this place. The pho is fantastic -- as good as or better than anything we get in the DC area -- and the meat in it is always fresh. The basil is also fresh, and the bean sprouts. My husband and I were in the mood for pho, so we decided to give it a try. Small store front in a shopping center, but the inside was pleasant enough. They weren't busy at the time because Jmu was out on holiday break. So we were approached immediately and our pho came quickly. The flavor of the broth was a tad muted, but still good. The only thing I would suggest is for the staff to leave their cell phones elsewhere. I think they should also as a matter of course, bring a fork with the chop sticks, or at least ask. I can use sticks ok, but my husband has arthritis in his hands. We had to wait until a water refill to ask for a fork because I couldn't get anyone's attention due to having their heads buried in their cell phones. I know it's a family run place, so maybe mom and dad need to have a talk with the kids about good service. read more

Being originally from Northern VA where we have lots of good options for Vietnamese restaurants, I was so very pleasantly surprised to find this little Vietnamese restaurant had setup shop in Harrisonburg! This is one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in Harrisonburg!! Their food is authentic and flavorful and their prices are low and the portions are large. I have ordered from here regularly for many years and plan to be a forever customer. I've never had a bad (or even close to bad) meal here! My favorite menu items are the summer rolls (generally I order 2 orders as a meal) and the vermicelli with pork. Their restaurant location is nice - small, clean and has room if you have a large group of people. They do carry out, and they accept credit/debit cards.
