We were looking for a place to have lunch when we found Viking Garden. Therefore was one waitress, she sat us and served us. She was great. My sister ordered their chicken mushroom chicken and an Arnold Palmer. I ordered a cheeseburger with flaming hot Cheetos and an iced teas as an appetizer had the sampler sausage. We loved the sampler. Both said sages were flavorful and cooked perfectly with grilled peppers and onion. My burger and fries were cooked perfectly for me. The bread could use a little butter toasting. The fries were crunchy, not burnt. My sister mentioned her sandwich was good. However the Cole slaw she didn't like. First off, the service was wonderful! I wish I remembered our servers name. She was the only one serving during the evening we dined here. Casual setting, tv's entertaining us, comfortable quiet location. We were so glad we were able to wind down with good food. I ordered the Chicken Piccata and loved it! It's the kind of comfort food you can't go wrong with. Our daughter had the Chicken Alfredo, and wow! She enjoyed it. Portion was generous and you know it'll be great leftovers! My husband ordered the Biksemad. Salty, beefy, and the egg on top just added to its goodness! Glad we stopped in. We came here and sat outside, they said its a first come and first serve. Waited 15 minutes until I had to go in and flag a waitress to take our order of soup, salad and chicken tenders. Waited another 30 minutes only for them not to have our food ready and the family of 11 that came after us to get served. Went inside to ask if everything is ok just to ask to wait to order. Needless to say, we left. While we understand being short staffed is rough, the fact they lost the order and asked us to wait was not the right solution. read more

Viking Garden has a quaint and cozy pub vibe with good, decently authentic Danish food. I got the sausage platter. The sausage the very good and I loved the sides (although two types of preserved cabbage was interesting). This place had a very short wait relative to other Danish restaurants in town. We only stopped by for a quick snack and we just got some fries which were super crunchy and abnormally tasty. They were for the kids. We figured we would get a pea soup because they were under 10 bucks and it's definitely the best pea soup I've ever had or equivalent to the best I've ever had!!! they had a full house because there is a tour bus that brought a bunch of people so we sat outside and the lady still came to us really quickly and it' was very quiet and relaxing and a nice spot for our kids to make a ruckus. read more

The food came out to quickly to be fresh, we got the fish and chips . They tasted like they speed defrosted and were mushy on the inside, the menu had many typos, including prices that were changed with a pencil, and different from the ones posted outside. The place didn't seem too packed, but service was very slow. Which only makes it odd that 2 minutes after placing our food order we got it . So Bartender here was seriously one of the nicest bartenders we've had in all Solvang. I got the potato pancakes which were actually have to be sent her a little dry but we want them with the applesauce and sour cream. We got the splits P soup which was delicious. The reason I gave this restaurant a 2-star review was because of the long time that they took to just take our drink order. Another reason was that my family when we received our food on 5/8 got the daily soup which was clam chowder soup. When we had a taste for the soup it was cold and after our waitress took our plates back to be reheated it still took them another 10 minutes which made us impatient. Now 2/8 of us got some pasta and when trying the pasta, some parts of it were cold so they most likely use a microwave for most of their food or even all of it. Just so you know, if you want beer, don't come here! THERE IS NONE!!! The picture I have entered shows that they don't even have a beer since there are cups on the taps. Another thing is that if you're at a table and you order a beer, you won't see it just like how they don't serve it. My uncle was extremely disappointed about that. read more

Nice little place, tucked away in a a corner. Good ambiance and cute little patio! Service is a little slow or at least it was when we went but it was also one of the least packed restaurants. I think it's not as boujee as other places but it's cute and nowhere near as busy. I had the biksemad and it was delicious. The food isn't anything fancy but it was cooked great and was very flavorful. Not sure if people are expecting some fine dining but the price reflects the plates and I really enjoyed it. Sorry in advance for the lengthy review. All around very unsatisfactory experience. Firstly, my family and I (5 of us) came in to the restaurant to be seated and the person who was supposed to seat us was eating behind the register. Secondly, the food here was a disappointment compared to the price. The food on my plate was basically warm on the outside but cold on the inside but I couldn't tell until I had already eaten a few bites. Even Ikea has better quality food and portion sizes than this for their cost. Thirdly, the service was basically nonexistent here, someone checked on our table twice the entire time we were there (over an hour). When the waitress took our order she didn't even read it back to us to check and when our food came there was an extra plate of food that none of us ordered but we were charged for. We ate it anyways because we didn't want it to go to waste as they would've just thrown it away. Lastly, and the most important, they charged us $26 more than what our bill was because they "added the tip." On their menu it clearly states they add tip for 6 or more people, we had 5, so no automatic tip should've been added. Plus we had already put a tip number down on our receipt. We called them and they blamed it on the fact that they were "training someone." There are WAY better restaurants in Solvang that are 10x better than this place. read more

Walking around the cute Danish town, I wanted to try some Danish food. Disappointingly, my family ordered non-Danish food here, which they thought was dry and just okay. But that's on them since I ordered the Biksemad, which I thought was delicious. So maybe a pro tip: order from their Danish specialty menu or their sausage platter because that is what they specialize in! Viking Garden has both indoor and outdoor seating. On this particular day we went, we decided to sit indoors since the summer sun was bright and hot. Inside seating was very typical. The servers were quick and always around in case you need anything. The Biksemad was the first Danish/Nordic food I have ever tried, and for a first-timer, it was not disappointing. I love the gravy on the mashed potatoes. The sauerkraut was delicious as well. The rest of the food that my family ordered (Burger, Fish & Chips, and Steak) were all dry. Also, they were not huge in serving sizes given what they were priced for. Overall, this seemed like a great restaurant for Danish cuisine, but if you prefer American food, don't go here. read more

Viking garden is my favorite eatery...I always have to stop by every visit. The sausage sampler platters are amazing and comes with sides of red cabbage, sauerkraut, and potato pancakes. Don't make the mistake I made: ordered 2 sides of potato pancakes with a 3 sausage sampler and it came out to an extra $10! I should have ordered 2 two-sausage samplers instead. We're not fans of applesauce but man, we chowed it down like hungry babies! Beer flights for $10 is a steal! Great variety of beers on tap. My sister who doesn't like beer enjoyed it. Not the best food to eat at in Solvang but its nice, the service is good, and the seating outside has plenty of scenery. I just wish the food tasted better. It wasn't bad though. Nice outdoor seating, great service, mostly mediocre food. Many Solvang restaurants were inexplicably closed on a Thursday evening, and this was about the only remotely reasonably priced open option other than Mexican food. The outdoor seating is nice and the service was truly excellent, allowing a green salad substitution for red cabbage and sauerkraut, but most of the food just okay. The schnitzel was pretty good but not great, the sausages were quite good (Swiss and Danish) and the Beef Sirloin in a sauce was also good but not great. The potato pancakes were very dissapointing, made with mashed potatoes instead of grated and not crispy. The Solvang food scene has been dissapointing for quite a while. read more

We brought family visiting us for the holidays from outer state to have good Danish food. After being seated it took 15 minutes to get a menu and that was after bringing it to the attention of a supervisor. We had to go to the bar to order a drink and to be told to sit down your server will take your order. She did take both drink and food orders. That was the last time we saw her. No one asked how we were doing or need another drink. It took 45 minutes to get our food. When it came it was very disappointing. The food was horrible one person in our party had a long black hair in her potato pancake. The server that delivered the food bring the wrong meal and was arguing with my sister saying this is what she ordered. Then had to use the restroom before leaving. There were two one seater restrooms. Both disgusting! No toilet paper, no paper towels, no soap . The trash can was overflowing. Toilet paper and paper towels all over the floor. Avoid this place at all cost find another restaurant with good Danish food read more

The red flags should have been clear from the start, but we were so hungry and not many places were open so we ignored. We were seated almost immediately but it took another 5 minutes before someone brought over the menus. After looking over the menu, we were able to track down a waitress 5-10 mins later. This is when the waiting marathon started. My husband actually had a get up 30 minutes in to ask for our water. And then had to get up again to ask where our food was. One of the server's goes oh you guys are next up. Brings us a fish and chips and some tuna roll. NOT OUR ORDER. We tell her before she even puts both plates down. She picks up and goes to provide to another table. Another 7 minutes go by and my husband has to get up again to ask. She goes, your's will be out shortly. She brings over a fish and chips and grilled cheese. We wait for my husband's order. In another 5 minutes they bring out a chicken club type sandwich. NOT HIS ORDER. He goes are you serious right now. They take it back. Another 5 minutes and they finally arrive with a santa fe burger, but get this, it is missing the avacado. Clearly written on the menu that this dish comes with avacado. He tracks down the waitress to let her know and her response was epic, "Ok sir, I will go get you some avacado and I won't even charge you for it." My husband goes doesn't it already come in the burger so why would there be an extra charge? All in all, horrible customer service from start to finish. When we first entered this restaurant it was in the middle of a lunch rush. All the tables were either filled or dirty, the bathroom line was long, and the staff was running ragged. We asked and were told to sit anywhere, and we found an open table. Soon our waiter, Ivan, came and brought menus. He was really working hard between all 3 indoor dining areas. We decided on the Sausage plates and they did not disappoint. The Danish sauasge was so mild and flavorful. We all got that and agreed it was delicious! The items that came with it were all very tasty and great accompaniments to the meat. As we were eating the place calmed down and empties out, the bus staff were able to get the tables cleared and the entire atmosphere immediately improved. Our waiter Ivan really helped our experience in this restaurant because in spite of running all over he still made time to make sure we were happy and had what we needed. He made several beer recommendations which was welcome. The price was moderate and really the food was good enough to command a higher price. One generous piece of sausage with the sides was a modest $11. I would love to return here for the same meal! read more

The price for what we got was ridiculous. $65 for spaghetti that was bland as hell and some meatballs with gravy that again were bland the only thing I really even liked was the vanilla mocha it was $5 for taxes as well.
