This is a no frills, place to stay in Solvang and perfect for a cozy place to stay. The price is great, service is great (Johnny is definitely a cool guy and very knowledgable of his hometown), and the location doesn't get any better. The room itself was VERY clean. Full stack of towels, clean sheets, extra pillows, even a great working fridge. TV was modern and worked great. The noise level was not bad at all. Bonus - you get a free pastry + coffee from the best bakery in town per person and it is right across the street. Thank you Johnny! I stayed at the Viking Inn in July 2024. The room was adorable, and very comfortable. I was really pleased at how clean it was. The location is perfect and the staff were very friendly. I had left some grapes in the refrigerator and the housekeeper ran up to the front office to bring to me as I was checking out. Very sweet of her. I hung out in the front lawn area while other guests were making s'mores in the fire pit. Very cozy. I will definitely be staying here again. read more

I love this place!! It's an amazing price, within walking distance to everything, and pet friendly! They have a fun outdoor area to sit by the fire pit and the rooms are updated to a modern look. The pillows and blankets were so comfy and check in was fast and easy. You can hear a bit of outside noise from the street, but I just tucked a little blanket at the door, and I couldn't hear much anymore. I also appreciated how close the parking is to the rooms, because you can easily look out the window to check on your car. There was also plenty of parking :) I was worried I wouldn't like a motel because I usually stay in hotels or airbnbs, but this was a great place and exceeded my expectations I'll be staying here anytime I come to Solvang, I loved it. read more

Easy parking as you show up and greeted by the nicest front desk person ever. Check in was in less than three minutes, but I didn't want to go to the room yet because we were having such good conversation! The room was exactly what we needed for the night; comfy bed, exquisitely clean bathroom, and A/C. We tossed our Gatorades in the freezer to get them ready for golf the next day. The rooms were not sound proof as we could hear our neighbors every once in a while. I wish we had our dog, as they are dog friendly. The location was perfect! An easy walk to the main drag of Solvang for dinner or drinks but definitely for breakfast the next morning as you get a free pastry and drink at the world famous danish bakery. read more

We stayed here for a weekend in December and really were not impressed. We were bringing our dog, so we needed a dog friendly place and this was the only spot left in Solvang. The room was clean and had the basic amenities. I brought my own pillow, so that probably saved my night sleep. The heater in our room worked really well, which is nice for a California winter night. Unfortunately, the lady at the front desk is pretty rude. She called yelling at us for parking our car in the parking lot. We were never told ahead of time that we couldn't have two cars with us and she decided to call us at 10pm to move our car when we weren't even at the hotel. I told her we were at a bar and drinking so it probably wasn't the best time to be driving our car anywhere, but she didn't care and wanted us to come back to move it. It was pretty ridiculous. I don't think we would ever stay here again. It was basically a dated and overpriced Motel 6 with a strange theme that was all over the place. We'll make sure to book our room way in advance next time so we don't get stuck again. read more

Great place to stay! Viking Inn is walkable to the downtown area and has self check in. There is a small market right across the street. Cute outdoor seating. Free parking for guests. Modestly priced, small-dog friendly property well-located on Mission Drive towards the end of the strip of shops, restaurants, bakeries that comprise the heart of Solvang. Rooms are clean, decently furnished, including small fridge and microwave, flatscreen tv with good-sized outdoor space for kicking back. Vouchers for danish and coffee at great bakery across the street are included. Very expensive for what you get. They are remodeling so when they are done it will probably be better. Clean but old no reason to have rags for towels (so old and thin). Hot water took forever and the shower was so low I had to be bent way over. Hope the remolding goes well may try again when that's done. read more

Was very lucky to have found a room on this trip. All the hotels in the area were booked and I'd been out riding my motorcycle most of the day. I was dead tired and started calling every hotel in the area I could find on Yelp. I called Viking and the nicest person I had the pleasure of speaking to all day said he had one room available. I told him I was at the Kronberg and would be right there and he said he'd hold the room. Long story short, Johnny is the best, nicest hotel manager I have ever met! Look, you can pay $50 (and way up) more and get something bigger, nicer, with thicker walls and more amenities, but let's give Viking props for... + hardwood floors + a decent bed (despite a stained bed spread) + hot water with good pressure + a fridge + free wifi + an effective ac/heater unit with a great fan for white noise + single-story... meaning no stairwells and nobody above you + good location... quiet, but still close to Olson's, Paula's, the Big Bopper, brewery + cheap liquor store right across the street is better than vending machines + the maids speak spanish and + if you have to call them, the cops already know where it is! read more

This is not a place where you stay all day and chill. It's location is central to everything in Solvang. You walk everywhere. The price is reasonable too! It a small inn but very nice. The owners are very nice. Reservations were easy, checkin was all electronic, and it was convenient to have the room number and passcode emailed to me also. Unfortunately for us, we did not get what we paid for. My daughter was graduating in a nearby college. Therefore, all the hotels in the 1-hour radius jacked up their price including this one. We paid $191.00 for a motel that is basically a Motel 6. Yeah, this place is more like a $50.00 motel. The place is located on the edge of Solvang downtown right on Highway 246. It has about a dozen rooms. The room is sparsely furnished but clean. If you are staying here, bring your own: 1. Towels: There are only a few towels and they are not very good quality. 2. Pillows: It does not look like they change their pillows often so they look sort old and smelly. 3. Sheets: The sheets also look like they are old. No bed bugs but it looks like there is a lot of traffic going through here. 4. Slippers: The hard floor is cold and you don't want to walk barefoot into the bathroom. read more

My girlfriend and I stayed overnight with our two dogs, a German-Lab and a Chihuahua-mix. Johnny was super sweet and made us feel like our stay mattered. He gave us a lot of great tips for places to visit, a complimentary magazine with maps and information about the city. Not the fanciest, but definitely the most homey and welcoming. Our dogs enjoyed the accessible grass and open space. Johnny even had complimentary doggy-bags in case we ran out. They were kind hosts and would definitely book here again in the future. read more

Very old and dated hotel. Not kept up very well. Missing grout in tile. Everything was old and run down. Pillows were very flat and uncomfortable. There were bugs in my bed which bit me (not bed bugs). The grass needs some TLC like maybe edge it at the least. Some landscaping would help with atmosphere too. It is what it is. A motel. It's a cute little thing right in the corner. Bring your pillows. Small but only was there overnight for the new year. The lady who checked us in was nice there was a short form then gave us our key. We didn't really hear our neighbors only in the bathroom we heard our neighbor snore. Loud fan or heater but I love the white noise. Bed is a little stiff and since it was just my and my bf it was ok. Towels small and itchy. We didn't care too much; we just laughed at how much of our body parts it actually covered. A little pricey for what you get but we literally got the last room in Solvang on NYE. No breakfast they gave us a breakfast voucher which consisted of a pastry coffee juice or milk. We decided to skip that and eat at the succulent cafe down the road. You get what you pay for.... Would never stay here again. The walls were paper thin and the traffic was loud as were the "neighbors." There were no curtains on the bathroom window! The light casing in the room was caked with bugs and had obviously not been cleaned in a very long time--if ever. Gross!!! One of the lights didn't even work! The room was in desperate need of paint as there were scuff marks and dents all along the baseboards and walls. They had a "free breakfast." We weren't paying $254 a dollar a night to stay in Solvang in the lap of luxury and we weren't going to kick it for the night in Lompoc for $129 Holiday Inn Express (the one in solvang had no rooms so that's one inexpensive option out) on a Saturday night. No. We don't pay for suburbia suburbia when the Santa Ynez Valley was calling my name.... We were doing COMMANDO STYLE travel right. You throw a dart on the map and just pack for whatever. Back up battery check. Underwear check. Toiletries. Check. Whatever it takes for you to attend a sleep over a town away. We drove up from Santa Monica with the intention that we would have fun along the way. We decided Lompoc was one of the destinations on our way to the Santa Ynez Valley. Why not? I had 5 minutes while partner in crime was at the Lompoc Walmart looking for ammo and a fan.You heard me. AMmo and a fan. We purchased neither. I yelped. I trip advisored. I googled and I called some expensive place. A holiday inn. And the Viking Motel. Sold for $139 because it's in the middle of everything and we're feeling cheap and last minutey. I was a bit nervous as to what my boyfriend would think but he declared "I LOVE THE VIKING MOTEL"!!!! Convenience, price and decency were winning features. It's right there in Solvang. You park and walk into your room. You have a bed with linens (if not a bit worn down. Stop freaking and being a pussy). Bring your own duvet okay? You get 4 king sized pillows. Just bring your own pillows if you're fussy. Remember, you drive on a whim for good times and new things. The little Asian lady that answered the phone is really nice. You can walk to a bunch of Solvang things and people!!! Santa Barbara towns are fancy when you want to stay in town and be next to the hip tourist things. Spend more money on good food and less about snoozing. Bring a sleeping pill and a huge pair of toleration. Also, in general, travel with people that roll withit. I was unable to get into my home here in Solvang and brought my small dog and checked into the room. I walked into the room and not even 1 minute later my husband texted me it was good to go back. I went back and requested a refund and Jonny said only 50% would be refunded and I would need to email the owners for the refund. When I did I got this very long explanation that seemed like a template in response. They indicated my dog peed on the bed and I used the wash-cloth and soap. That was untrue. They followed up after I told them it was not accurate and sent me photos. The phots I received were not even the proper date. My dog is a small dog and did not even get on the bed nor did I wash my hands etc. To me, I would NEVER recommend this place to liars. The room was also very old and smelled. read more

I don't understand what everyone is complaining about. Our room was very clean (minus the piece of chewed gum that the cleaning person missed on the radiator!), the bed was comfortable (as were the pillows), the shower was hot, the soap and shampoo were not that bad, and who needs TV? We are on vacation people. The price was much better then other places we were looking at- I was in Santa Barbara before that and called several hotels that wanted over 150 dollars for one night- we paid 89 plus tax. The front desk was very nice. There is a fridge and microwave and table and chairs in the room. Maybe I am just very low maintenance, but I would totally return to this motel next time I am in Solvang. I guess I would recommend this motel to people who aren't used to the 4+ star hotels. The girlfriend and I wanted to hit Solvang for a get-away weekend. It was Thursday night and all rooms available were around $500 a night. After calling every "high-rated" inn in the Solvang area, I decided to give Viking Motel a try. My man Johnny answered the phone and said they had a room. It was WAY less than anything else I was quoted, so I booked it. Got there at around 10pm which was no prob and Johnny greeted us with warmth proceeding to tell us about all the hot spots to go for food, fun, and good wine. Room was quaint with a decent TV, a king-sized bed, a mini-fridge, and the bathroom had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. AC and heat worked like a charm and the room was cozy and quiet. It's located right at the edge of Solvang so you're not in the thick of it, but everything is walking distance! On top of that, the only bar open 'till 2 am was a block away! Needless to say we had a fun Friday night. A lil more about Johnny... he set us up with some chairs and a table on the lawn in front of our room so we sat and looked at the cool fountain. Nice! Plus my gf asked for some hangers and Johnny said no prob, and gave us 12. More than enough. Little things can go a long way. It was a fantastic weekend, and I gotta say that The Viking Motel had a lot to do with it. Def staying here again if we hit that area. read more
