An older motel in need of new flooring, better cleaning. Kitchen had surprisingly excellent stove, microwave, countertop, and sink. Basic dented fridge. All dishes need washing, as did the sticky shelving and knobs. Bathroom tiling was beautiful, clean. Tub stained. Shower worked very well. Lots of drawers in bedroom, but over half were missing both knobs or bottoms were broken out. Large closet with stuck door, no hangers. Unit at upstairs back was much quieter than I thought for a busy road. Narrow one-way parking lot with unassigned spaces had closest space to our unit available all three days we were there. read more

3.5 stars: My family and I stayed at the Viking Motel for a week to visit my sister who lived higher up the hills in Ventura. Pros - For the average nightly rate of ~$100, I was pretty satisfied with the rooms because they were spacious, clean, and equipped with full kitchens (full-size fridge, small dining table for 2, and a few utensils and dishwater) - Best part about these rooms were the super comfortable and clean beds with memory foam. - My sister and I stayed in room 15, which we liked for the 3 queen sized beds and the newly remodeled multi-spray shower that came with excellent shower pressure. - Reliable and strong WiFi Cons: - Thin floors- we had rowdy upstairs neighbors and the stomping and constant noises got annoying at times. - Don't recommend room 17. The wall AC and heat unit was so loud at nights it was so hard to sleep, even with my earplugs and pillow over my ears. It sounded like there was a running laundry machine by our beds. We were in one of the newly upgraded rooms (#15). Beautiful tiles, fancy shower fittings, and a nicer kitchen than I've seen in most apartments! (serious range, French door fridge/freezer, dishes and pans, curtained windows). I had the firm bed I prefer, and he had a soft one which he likes, and we both got a good night's sleep. The pillows were very comfy, too. Good WiFi, adorable building touches. Staff was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We had reserved a room ahead of time and they blocked off a parking spot for us: very kind, as the parking lot was otherwise full when we arrived. They also have a folder of local interests and recommendations at the desk, which is thoughtful. Would definitely stay here again! read more

We stayed for two nights over Labor Day weekend (Sept 2022) at Viking Motel with our family of two adults and four little kids. Every hotel in Motel and Ventura was sold out so we found a room at Viking Motel. They charged us $750 for 2 nights!!!!!!! We paid it because everything in Ventura was sold out and we needed to get out of Santa Clarita where it was 115° over the weekend and unhealthy air quality. One of our 4 children have cerebral palsy and cannot tolerate hot weather or unhealthy air quality. We got a large room with three beds and a full kitchen at Viking. As soon as we entered the room there was a terrible cigarette smoke smell. The pillows on the bed smelled like cigarette smoke as well. They were unusable. When we went to the kitchen we were shocked that it looked absolutely filthy. There was thick grease covering the stove and microwave. Greasy fingerprints and dried sauce all over the fridge door and handle. The little kitchen table was covered with food spots. When we opened the fridge we found food crumbs all over the shelves and sticky juice all over the fridge drawers. There is mold all over the ceiling in the shower and on the shower curtain. My husband took a towel and srubbed the floor and the towel immediately came black. Their carpets are absolutely filthy black. Our kids walked with their bare feet on the carpet for less than a minute and their feet were extremely dirty. There was no dish soap or sponge in the kitchen. And nothing usable at all. No pans or pots or anything that can make the kitchen functional. We shared our concern with the guy at the front desk which is part of the family that owns the motel. He did not do anything about it. Since everything in Ventura was sold out we could not pack all our stuff and our little kids and leave. We ended up cleaning the room and the kitchen and the bathroom ourselves. But it felt awful being there in such a unsanitary place. Also, in the middle of the night somebody knocked at our door multiple times. Once at 10 PM, once at 1 AM, and another time at 5 AM. Next-door to our room lives a man with severe mental illness that kept screaming and talking out loud and scared our kids. When we shared our concern again the man at the front desk he was not very helpful, neither did he empathize. He gave us a minimal refund, which was truly a slap in the face. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Do not stay at Viking Motel if you are looking for a clean, safe and sanitary place to stay! read more

Perhaps the upgraded rooms are nice. I wouldn't know. But our room was one of the ones not upgraded and it was the worst. Let's start with a few "small" things...piece of gum stuck to the wall next to the bed, no trash can in the kitchen or main area, dirty cup in the sink when we just got in the room, musty smell. Bugs! I get it, old building and old room. But these little sink flies were literally everywhere but bunches all over the bathroom. Someone tapping on the windows at 3:30am woke us up, tapping on all the windows. And the worst? The carpet was damp like and when I showered the next morning black something was all over the bottom of my feet. It was gross and came from that room because I showered before we checked in. Pet fee 25 a night...other places in town no fees. And 100 deposit too that they check the room while you are there before you can get your deposit back. The guy at the desk Patrick, was nice and helpful so at least there's that. read more

This is my second time coming a motel, but I can guarantee I'm never coming back here. Or to any mote It is not clean as it appeared to be. The pillows had stains and tried to hide it with a clean white pillow cover but it was still visible. The door was not clean at all, and the kitchen cabinets were stain with left over food that people from the past left. The air conditioning did not cool the room enough. The beds were semi-clean, they did not smell clean. The furniture was not clean either. I would NOT recommend this Motel. This was my parents only choice of sleeping somewhere or in the car, I should have chosen the car. I am a germophobe, and this was terrifying for me to stay the night. read more

Perfect for a family. We reserved our room a day ahead of time for a last minute stop on the way to San Francisco. It was cheaper than most options and he a kitchen so we jumped on it. It was nicer than we expected and hey let us check in after ten pm. They didn't charge us extra for the kids (we have three but they are all little). There is a full kitchen which means one last night of fast food on the road. There was actual key to the room which was kind of novel. It's an older hotel but charming. read more

I reserved a room at the Viking Motel via bookings.com. Apparently our CC on file with bookings was expired. However I still received a confirmation number and a PIN to go with the reservation. We arrived at the hotel and they were trying to charge us over $200 for the room. They would not honor the cost we received through bookings - we explained we had been out all day kayaking and hadn't checked email BUT we were there NOW with working CC to pay for the room. They still would not honor the price we were given through Bookings.com. I wonder how many other people they do this to? Too bad! We live in the valley - kayak in Ventura all the time! I love a Good dive motel. No you know near Seedy bars and hamburger joints with a hint of cleanliness. I also love high-quality hotels. This was neither. It was more like an apartment for extended visits by smokers. You know. Has a kitchen, bedroom ( I got one king, one queen bed), bathroom. Kitchen comes with utensils, plates, microwave, fridge. The stove does not work but I didn't expect to a cooking extravaganza so whatever. I paid around 60 a night after taxes. Ask for multiple night stay discounts if they have any. Their weekend rates are slightly steeper, but I stayed 3 days so I got a flat weekday rate. Not bad for its price. Good location if you want to be close to the beach. Not walking distance but a short drive. Not the quietest place to sleep, so bring earplugs if you're sensitive to noise. .. and make sure to close the windows when you sleep. Helps reduce the noise. they keep their windows and doors open when they're maintaining / preparing the rooms. I saw a couple flies in the room because of this. Get ready to swat! At least there are no roaches (I have seen roaches at other motels) Owner/ employees do their job (keep an eye on the cars, motel security in general) If you're gonna go to the beach, park in Ventura Harbor Village and cross the streets, best way to find parking. read more

I was skeptical what kind of room I would get with a full kitchen for only $60 but was more than pleasantly surprised to arrive and see the room wasn't so bad. It is definitely not a 5 star resort but for the cost its a great value. For almost double you can get a suit with a Jacuzzi tub. I recommend shopping on priceline, the website itself and also calling, I was given 3 different prices. The room I paid for had a plasma tv mounted on the wall with HD cable which you cant find in most budget hotels since they still have the old style tube tv's so I was able to hook up my laptop with HDMI to watch movies and stuff. Under the tv was a nice big glass desk which doesnt look very cheap and its bigger than most office setting desk, there was 2 leather swivel chairs as well. They provide wireless internet which with a speed test said it was charter and was 8mb/s average speed for me. The internet is faster than most budget motels as well which I give praise. The room was also quite large compared to some, it had a full closet, a small kitchen in its own room with a full size fridge and a full size stove. They provide dishes and a few pans but I would recommend bringing your own or buying some cheap pans. It looks like they are slowly upgrading things, the kitchen floor had really nice tile floors that looked brand new, the counter was mostly replaced with larger nice tile but needs finished on the edges. A paint job would make it look so much nicer though. In the kitchen there is another closet which has an iron and board in it. There is a small table and 2 chairs to eat at. Other appliances include a small toaster oven, microwave and a coffee pot which you need to bring your own filters and coffee for. The one in my room used cone filters size 4. As you venture to the bathroom there is a full size tub and shower, the room I was in had new tile on both the floor and all walls, the ceiling could use some attention though, it had a few spots of mold and needs to be painted. A quick fix to the mold problem would be to install a bathroom fan and also use a mold resistant paint, $100 invested in the room would make it look great. The room also had a heater/AC combo unit on the wall which worked great and there was a ceiling fan which you dont find often. Conclusion its a nice room for the value and I would recommend to anyone not looking for major thrills. Having a kitchen most meals were prepared and it alone saved me probably $50+ a day just for food cost. The owner seems to be around all day long and keeps busy with the property and is easy to find and get a hold of for any issues. I give this hotel a 4/5 stars and if I return to see some of the issues fixed it might just see a 5th star. read more

This is a quirky little motel. Two of those words are actually unnecessary. The Viking Motel is is quiet and clean. The building is a little dated, but some might consider it retro. Walking distance to the beach, shops & restaurants. The room itself was huge & I would not have minded setting up shop there for a while if I'd stayed longer. This room came with a full kitchenette. Full sized fridge, range, oven. flatware, silverware, they even threw in the kitchen sink. This was more a studio than a motel room. Pretty fair for $54. If you're ever running from the law, this would be a fantastic place to hide. You could stay in the room for an entire week & no one would even know. Ventura is a nice little town. Viking Motel, where do I start.. it's not THAT bad and it's not THAT good. When you first arrive, you have to approach a thick glass window which it is very hard to hear the hotel employee through a thick glass wall like that, nonetheless he was nice and he made me feel good. The check in is quite a hassle, you must leave $100 with him either debit/credit or cash and will get that $100 back when you leave. Understandable but a little extreme considering I just stayed at the Marriott Ventura-Oxnard last night and the check in and check out took 10 minutes COMBINED. The rooms here: The door is dirty, the kitchenware is not useable (unless you wash yourself THOROUGHLY) it smells quite good in here and in room #18 it is Very spacious. One king bed, a spa/tub (not clean), a kitchen, a bathroom, and a nice 70" HD television. I give this motel a 3/5 Stars which is still good considering it's a motel. When you arrive it doesn't look like much. It's a little run down on the surface, however, when you enter your room the motel becomes very impressive! Very clean with a full size kitchen (probably more kitchen one would need for one night), clean beds, huge flat screen TV, and a cozy, private bathroom. The gentleman who checked us in was pleasant, sincere, very helpful and accommodating. In fact, my girlfriend forgot the credit card she used to book the room. The gentleman behind the counter reversed the previous charge and took her debit card instead and kept the same price she paid on booking.com. This place won us over!!! read more

We have just stayed at the Viking Motel. Don't let the outside of the motel scare you away. They are refurbishing it from the rooms first to the outside. We stayed in unit number 25. It was completely refurbished from top to bottom. All new carpet, all new drapes, all new furniture. Everything in the kitchen new. Within one mile of the beach. $85 per night midweek. Therefore, as we come to Ventura again, we certainly will consider staying there. read more

I was a little concerned when pulling into driveway. First of all the exterior is somewhat dated and I realized I would not be able to park my truck (F350 4 door, long bed 4x4) in the front parking area. The staff was very sweet and extremely accommodating with my parking issue. Our room was very nice, clean and spacious. By far this room was just as good if not better than some of the higher end places I have stayed. There are signs they are still in the middle of renovations and I can't wait to see when done. Not far from beaches and several really good places to eat. Already trying to plan a trip back to Ventura and will definitely be staying here.......with a standard size car. LOL read more
