Bad shower design with no water separator on floor (Room 17)
Ann L.

3.5 stars: My family and I stayed at the Viking Motel for a week to visit my sister who lived higher up the hills in Ventura. Pros - For the average nightly rate of ~$100, I was pretty satisfied with the rooms because they were spacious, clean, and equipped with full kitchens (full-size fridge, small dining table for 2, and a few utensils and dishwater) - Best part about these rooms were the super comfortable and clean beds with memory foam. - My sister and I stayed in room 15, which we liked for the 3 queen sized beds and the newly remodeled multi-spray shower that came with excellent shower pressure. - Reliable and strong WiFi Cons: - Thin floors- we had rowdy upstairs neighbors and the stomping and constant noises got annoying at times. - Don't recommend room 17. The wall AC and heat unit was so loud at nights it was so hard to sleep, even with my earplugs and pillow over my ears. It sounded like there was a running laundry machine by our beds. Also, the shower was weird because the there was no floor separator between shower stall and toilet so all the water would spread out on the entire floor (pic attached) - Really poor soap - better bring your own toiletries Overall, would stay again but only in the upper level remodeled units with newer showers and quiet heat and a/c units.

Girlfriend got scabies from this place!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS MOTEL!!!! On our way home after staying here this past weekend, my girlfriend kept complaining about her legs itching... later that night she started getting more and more itchy red bumps all over her legs! Turns out she got scabies from this Motel!!! Wth?! Luckily she works for a doctor who was able to prescribe her something right away. Never again! This is unbelievable and disgusting! You're better off paying a few extra dollars staying somewhere else!

Terribly dirty carpets and floors

We stayed for two nights over Labor Day weekend (Sept 2022) at Viking Motel with our family of two adults and four little kids. Every hotel in Motel and Ventura was sold out so we found a room at Viking Motel. They charged us $750 for 2 nights!!!!!!! We paid it because everything in Ventura was sold out and we needed to get out of Santa Clarita where it was 115° over the weekend and unhealthy air quality. One of our 4 children have cerebral palsy and cannot tolerate hot weather or unhealthy air quality. We got a large room with three beds and a full kitchen at Viking. As soon as we entered the room there was a terrible cigarette smoke smell. The pillows on the bed smelled like cigarette smoke as well. They were unusable. When we went to the kitchen we were shocked that it looked absolutely filthy. There was thick grease covering the stove and microwave. Greasy fingerprints and dried sauce all over the fridge door and handle. The little kitchen table was covered with food spots. When we opened the fridge we found food crumbs all over the shelves and sticky juice all over the fridge drawers. There is mold all over the ceiling in the shower and on the shower curtain. My husband took a towel and srubbed the floor and the towel immediately came black. Their carpets are absolutely filthy black. Our kids walked with their bare feet on the carpet for less than a minute and their feet were extremely dirty. There was no dish soap or sponge in the kitchen. And nothing usable at all. No pans or pots or anything that can make the kitchen functional. We shared our concern with the guy at the front desk which is part of the family that owns the motel. He did not do anything about it. Since everything in Ventura was sold out we could not pack all our stuff and our little kids and leave. We ended up cleaning the room and the kitchen and the bathroom ourselves. But it felt awful being there in such a unsanitary place. Also, in the middle of the night somebody knocked at our door multiple times. Once at 10 PM, once at 1 AM, and another time at 5 AM. Next-door to our room lives a man with severe mental illness that kept screaming and talking out loud and scared our kids. When we shared our concern again the man at the front desk he was not very helpful, neither did he empathize. He gave us a minimal refund, which was truly a slap in the face. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Do not stay at Viking Motel if you are looking for a clean, safe and sanitary place to stay!

Dirty nightstand

This is my second time coming a motel, but I can guarantee I'm never coming back here. Or to any mote It is not clean as it appeared to be. The pillows had stains and tried to hide it with a clean white pillow cover but it was still visible. The door was not clean at all, and the kitchen cabinets were stain with left over food that people from the past left. The air conditioning did not cool the room enough. The beds were semi-clean, they did not smell clean. The furniture was not clean either. I would NOT recommend this Motel. This was my parents only choice of sleeping somewhere or in the car, I should have chosen the car. I am a germophobe, and this was terrifying for me to stay the night.

Roger just recently remodeled the place and honestly this is better than my apartment.

Owner is a very nice guy and was telling us about the recent remodel. The room is very spacious and clean. You won't believe that this is a motel. Was blown away to see the full kitchen with all the new appliances. Full refrigerator and oven. Beds are incredibly soft and clean. Oh and the TV is huge. Awesome place to stay. Best in the area!

A nice TV with cable.

Perfect for a family. We reserved our room a day ahead of time for a last minute stop on the way to San Francisco. It was cheaper than most options and he a kitchen so we jumped on it. It was nicer than we expected and hey let us check in after ten pm. They didn't charge us extra for the kids (we have three but they are all little). There is a full kitchen which means one last night of fast food on the road. There was actual key to the room which was kind of novel. It's an older hotel but charming.

We came on a Saturday early afternoon and started at one of their restaurants. The food was amazing, but service was definitely on the slower side. The resort is huge and has so many activities tennis, golf, bike rentals and more. After that, we headed over to the spa and spent the rest of the day relaxing by the pool. The vibe was so calm, mostly women just chatting, unwinding, and enjoying each other in this peaceful little paradise. We ordered smoothies poolside and omg...so fresh and refreshing. Service at the spa pool was great, everyone seemed to be working together seamlessly and checking in often without being overbearing. Definitely one of those spots I'd come back to anytime I need a reset from LA.

For many years, Ojai Valley Inn was one of my favorite destinations. I have stayed at the resort…read moreseven or eight times and always considered it a special place to celebrate important occasions. Unfortunately, after my recent experience, I do not plan to return. For Father's Day weekend, I booked what I hoped would be a memorable getaway for my husband and me. I prepaid $5,364.45 for a two-night stay in a Deluxe King with a View Room. In addition, I made dinner reservations at the resort's fine dining restaurant, scheduled a golf outing for two because my husband loves golf, and booked a couples massage. I was genuinely looking forward to a special and relaxing weekend. On June 5, I searched for Ojai Valley Inn on Google and called the phone number that appeared online. Unbeknownst to me, I was connected to a third-party reservation company called Hotel Reservations rather than the resort directly. I received a confirmation email that included Ojai Valley Inn's name, a confirmation number, an itinerary number, and proof of payment. After driving nearly three hours from Newport Beach to the resort, I was shocked to learn that Ojai Valley Inn could not locate my reservation. I presented all of my documentation and confirmation details, yet after nearly an hour of waiting, the issue remained unresolved. I contacted Hotel Reservations while standing at the front desk, and they confirmed that a reservation existed in their system. Unfortunately, the third-party company and the hotel were unable to reconcile the discrepancy. What disappointed me most was not the reservation issue itself, but the hotel's response. The front desk associate assisting us was kind, empathetic, mentioned they will have a room available for us, and appeared genuinely committed to finding a solution. However, when the front desk manager, Morgan Giuseponi, became involved, I felt that very little effort was made to accommodate us despite our circumstances. Given our longstanding history with the resort, our prepaid reservation, and the fact that we already had dining, golf, and spa reservations on property, I expected some attempt to help us remain at the resort. Instead, we were informed that the hotel was fully booked and were advised to seek accommodations elsewhere. Whether the issue originated with the third-party booking company or elsewhere, I had hoped Ojai Valley Inn would demonstrate the level of hospitality and problem-solving that luxury resorts are known for. Rather than allowing the situation to ruin Father's Day weekend, we chose to stay at Rosewood Miramar Beach instead. Fortunately, the experience there was exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, attentive, and proactive. The contrast in customer care was impossible to ignore. Luxury hospitality is not measured by how a property performs when everything goes according to plan. It is measured by how it responds when something goes wrong. In this case, I left feeling that Ojai Valley Inn was unwilling to help a loyal, repeat guest during a difficult situation. This experience was deeply disappointing and has permanently changed my perception of a resort I once loved. While the reservation issue may not have been entirely the hotel's fault, the lack of effort to find a solution certainly was. For that reason, I will not be returning.

Both valet and the parking structure had several EV level 2 charging stations; valet charging was free. ChargePoint paid charging available at the parking structure; not sure what the cost is. Pier view isn't great, and the sounds of music from The Aloha steakhouse, constantly made into the room on the 9th floor. I was the second room from the furthest point and still didn't have much of a view. I had a small balcony which provided fresh air and a place to dry wet bathing suits. At least 3 times a day you would hear the loud train noise even on the 9th floor; I'd suggest the sunset view vs pier view going forward. The restroom was extremely small, the water pressure was low at all times; sink and shower. The sliding barn door had frosted glass which blinded the entire room with the bathroom lights on in a dark room; poor design choice as the door was only 1-2 feet away from the bed. The pool was heated but not @80 degrees as described; complementary towels available at the front desk. Drinks are allowed on the pool deck but must be in plastic; no glass allowed. The Aloha bar had friendly bartenders with decent food and drink options; I wasn't a fan of the ahi salad, it had too much wasabi in the dressing. The hotel was located about a 5min drive from downtown Ventura and a 10min walk, this location wasn't as centrally located like the Clocktower hotel but likely less noise from foot traffic. Late check out @1 is complementary and prioritized with IHG rewards members, however I was not allowed the option. I doubt I'd return due to the above mentioned. Late check out should always be an option.

During breakfast the first morning, there was an older couple, and the wife burned her finger on the waffle maker. She then got pissed and started yelling at her husband because he didn't react the way she thought he should. Then a second couple came in the next morning, and they were fighting too! People seemed to be disturbed by something here. During the second night is when things got interesting. About 1:30 am I was awoken randomly. As I laid there in bed, I could hear some very loud but muffled screaming. It was a man's voice. I sounded like English, but I couldn't understand it, even though I should have been able to. As the screaming and yelling continued, it sounded like a large bowling ball was being thrashed around the room. It rattled the wall as I had my ear pressed up against it trying to figure out what the in the hell was going on. It was pretty scary, and I don't scare easily. It's actually really hard to explain and convey what I heard and felt. This went on and on, as I debated waking up my wife and getting out of there. It was at that point I decided to pray. I said, Jesus, please make whatever that is stop so I know my wife and son will be okay. The very second I ended my prayer, the noise stopped completely. I was really surprised, which led me to believe that may have been a spirit because the prayer ended that nonsense immediately. After a 2 second google search, it was documented many times that this hotel is commonly haunted. And the breakfast is greasy paper like bacon, and sausage. There is a waffle maker though!

The blinds didn't close completely and the curtains did not keep light out. Room smells musty & unclean, and the towels are so old and thin. The patio screen door came off tracks when we opened it. Lastly, the AC unit was loud when it turned on. When I brought this to the front desk, they told me only the queen rooms were renovated to match pictures online, not the King rooms. I asked to speak with the general manager and when I explained everything to her, she said she could only refund the night we didn't stay because we stayed the first night when we could have left. No customer service or acknowledgement that it was a terrible and unsafe room. The pictures online don't match reality. The only positive is the proximity to the beach which we couldn't even enjoy.
