The stay is okay. The room is clean but bare. There were no water in the room, no soaps, and there were no ear cleaner either. Bare necessities would suffice this hotel is lacking that. When we first came in the hotel, we had to wait for more than five minutes as the front desk people were chatting in the back and I could hear them. Not a great experience. It was as under construction and the pool was closed. They did not tell us that when we checked in. When I called the front desk they told us sorry for the inconvenience and would allow us to check out without a cancellation fee. They also said they'd give us bonus points for the inconvenience. So we said great and we left. But that was on the phone. An hour later they didn't actually check us out. I had to drive back to be checked out. They told me sorry but they assumed I would come to the front after they told me they would cancel. It was an inconvenience and just bad communication. They said I would 5000 Bonvoy points for my inconvenience. But I got 3000. So they get two stars. read more

Terrible stay. Room faced the "staging" area of construction where a forklift just went back and forth beeping & the workers were on a 5 hour lunch playing loud music. Had to close the door to muffle it and even then it could still be heard. The Starbucks was closed 75% of the time. Room was furnished in the 60's and no elevator in rear building (how?!). Unbelievable price for a motel 6 room stay. Can't believe this place is open while under construction. Only positive was the young lady that checked us in .... Very pleasant and friendly. read more

No, I would not recommend this hotel to family or friends. Our stay was horrific at this hotel. I wouldn't call it a stay as we had to check out in the middle of the night due to an ANT infestation. We were not able to enjoy The Cowboy training camp weekend experience, because we had to drive back home an hour away in the middle of the night. A customer service rep offered to have our room exterminated while we were in the room. This was an unacceptable response. Why would you offer to spray poison in a room while a family was still there? However, the Night Controller was more helpful during our check out. read more

The advantages of staying in a hotel room over, say, an air b&b, can be the free breakfasts, in building restaurants/bars, location, and the security of safety... I had seen the mediocre reviews before we checked in, but thought maybe it would be worth it to save some money instead of booking elsewhere. Regret! The rooms are true to the reviews, doors don't align properly, leaving gaps on sides and beneath doors, bathroom door barely even closes correctly. The rooms are old and musty. I didn't see any roaches (thank goodness). On the night before our last morning there, we started to hear loud noises coming from a few rooms down. It was around 11pm at this point. It turned from loud noises to yelling and screaming and wailing. This went on for almost 10 minutes. We called the front desk because it honestly sounded like someone was being hurt. Front desk: Sorry! Would you like to switch rooms? I responded that we didn't, we wanted to make sure no one was injured. Front desk went to knock on the door, asked if everything was ok, to which the man that answered gave a quick "yeah" while yelling was still going on behind him. We ended up going home that night and will not be staying in a Courtyard anytime soon. Good luck to all the staff, sure you've seen a lot. read more

NEVER AGAIN! Horrible experience! Reception Desk staff were extremely unfriendly from the moment we check in. Even with a change of shift still unfriendly. The restaurant is nothing like shown in the photos! It is dark and small, and more like a snack bar. It only has a limited amount of options for breakfast all costing about $14 or more. There is a limited list of sandwiches and salads for lunch that again are expensive and nothing special for the price. The room was spacious, but the bed was hard, curtain torn off the hook in the corner, so sunlight came in making it hard to sleep. There were people in the pool and jacuzzi talking loud and making noise past 10:30 pm, when the sign said closed at 10:00 pm. In the end, Oxnard has better choices of places to stay; we won't choose this place again. read more

This was the worst stay possible! The hotel feels old, run down and doesn't appear the management or ownership are taking care of the property nor are they interested in it. My room was missing shampoo and the bed was not that comfortable. Apparently a lady in a room below me I was told by the maintenance team that had lit candles and brought a space heater to the hotel and could have caused a potential fire. Instead of kicking that guest out, they were only going to move her to another room??!!' What!!? Nooo!! You're putting lives in danger! Do the right thing and evict the guest out! Lighting candles and bringing your own space heater poses a huge danger to others. I tried the work out area and some rhe equipment was old and not working. Do yourself a favor and don't stay here. It says this was an official Dallas cowboys training hotel but I don't see how with the shape this hotel is in. read more

I stayed here for 2 days due to work. Hotel was nice and clean. Front desk was excellent with the customer service. Rooms were spacious and clean. They didn't have any pastries which I was craving and one of the guys working went out of his way to get me a pastry from the kitchen. This will definitely be a place I can stop by again. read more

Stayed here 2 weeks ago with my family (including 2 young kids) and had the single worst hotel experience of my life. What happened - we got a room with 2 queen beds for our family of 4. At 9pm, the kids started to shower. The shower filled up with water and wouldn't drain. The engineer was called and spent 20 minutes snaking it. He then told us that snaking it had made the shower worse, and we would have to switch rooms. The only room available was a room with a single bed it in. We are a family of 4. We were assured repeatedly by both the engineer and the front desk that we could have 2 rollaways in the room with a single bed, to accommodate all 4 of us. We got to the new room and received only 1 single rollaway. There were also ants in that room. After following up and waiting for quite some time, we were then told that the 2nd rollaway wasn't available after all. Again, this is late in the night with two young kids. After much back and forth with the front desk, we were then offered a THIRD room. It just so happens that a larger room with a bigger bathroom, with 2 beds, was now magically available. (It very much seems like they initially tried to force us into accepting a room with 1 bed instead of giving us this more costly, bigger room with 2 beds. I received inconsistent explanations from the front desk and GM as to why and how this 3rd room suddenly became available, which only supports the idea that they were just being shady with us.) Anyway, this 3rd room had ants, a dead beetle, was on the 1st floor yet had a floor-to-ceiling curtain that wouldn't close all the way (meaning that anyone outside could walk up to the room and fully see in), and had an AC that was freezing cold and couldn't be adjusted. As a result of having to move rooms so many times, my young kids didn't get to bed until midnight. Oh, and everything was closed/broken - the gym, the laundry room, etc. Literally, the worst hotel experience of my life. The GM gave me $40 off the room charge; when I said I didn't feel that was sufficient, she promised to get back to me on that but since has completely ghosted me, despite me following up with her. This is my second time here at this hotel. The last time I was here was a couple years ago and I think it was prior to their renovations. Not sure if it's nicer now perhaps but it probably is. It's an interesting property. I usually tend to stay at another property if I'm in the Oxnard Ventura area but was hopping around to take advantage of Marriott's promotions to maximize points. What's weird is that even with the new standard Courtyard carpeting and wallpaper, the actual bones of the place still feels a little bit dated. It gives me old motel vibes but with a newer design on top of it which is kind of interesting. The check in process was very easy as I had done the mobile check-in so they knew I was arriving at a certain time and everything was very convenient to use. The lobby is very big with lots of space to mingle and hang out. This property is not on the top of my list for hotels but it's fine. I'm sure it's fine for the price but don't expect anything extra fancy. read more

My kids had ants in their beds and they couldn't get their room changed or even clean sheets. They had to sleep on stripped mattresses with no sheets. They were each given one scratchy, brown, camping blanket. The hotel said they couldn't refund us because we booked through Orbitz. Orbitz then asked for a refund and the General Manager Betty Amezcua refused. My son was bitten by ants and we paid over $600 dollars for my son to get bitten by ants one night and both kids to sleep on bare mattresses the 2nd night. Check your beds and the walls behind them if you stay here. The ants were climbing up and down the walls and onto the beds. I never do bad reviews but this place truly earned one. The only positive is the night clerk, that wasn't allowed to do anything to help, was really nice. I felt bad for her. read more

We rented 2 rooms for my husband and 2 teenage kids and this hotel delivered on all my must haves for a relaxing, restful and wonderful stay. The rooms and bathrooms were clean, well appointed and spacious. Check-in was easy and the concierge was nice even offering to give us adjacent rooms. Parking was also free. I was very disappointed with the customer service here. When we checked in, the front desk did not give us information about the facility..there was hardly even a greeting! I had to ask which floor for the room, I also had to ask about where the pool was. I've never been to a Marriott that doesn't prioritize the customer's experience. Additionally, I had lots of friends & family book here since it was for my wedding. On my first night we got security banging on our door to tell us we were too loud disturbing other guests & was accused of having a party....The crazy thing is that there were only 3 of us ladies in the king suite having a normal conversation. Furthermore, why didn't they just call us? Why bang on the door like a mad man?! We weren't even informed about breakfast in the morning...and to top it off there were multiple meetings/conventions being held at the facility. 1 of the conventions was for a science camp, so the halls and common areas were flooded with super loud teenagers. I don't understand why we were profiled and told we were being too loud when the room 2 doors from us had major noise, even heard them in the hallway. I'm so disappointed about paying what I paid to stay here for a below average MOTEL experience. Not up to the Marriott standards. I'm giving 2 stars based on my experience. I'm not sure if this was just a bad weekend, or if this is the common experience for the majority who stay here. Regardless, I hope speaking about my stay helps. read more

My husband and I stayed at this Marriot while driving down to Socal for a little road trip. The location is easy to find and it has easy access to the freeways. The hotel itself is nice and the rooms were very clean and spacious. The beds were comfortable and the room even came with a mini fridge and a coffee maker! The bathroom was small with the toilet being way too close to the tub. The room doors are very odd and so heavy to open! I don't know what those doors are made of, but I had to use all my strength to open them! They shut very loud too! The main reason I gave this hotel three stars is because of the noise level. Firstly, there is a train that goes by and makes quite a bit of noise (even at night). Second, the walls between rooms are very thin. I was able to hear full conversations from the family next door. It was quite disruptive and noisy! I could hear their TV very loudly and pretty much all of their talking. I had to wear earplugs at night to sleep! Overall, the hotel is a decent place to stay if noise doesn't bother you. I wish they could do something more about the noise. read more

Gotta say, I travel kinda often and this is one of the best hotels (room-wise) I've stayed in. From the moment I walked into the lobby, it felt good. Rick at the front desk was suuuuper helpful and attentive. He helped me solve an issue with part of our reservations, really thankful for that. Then he gave me a choice of where I wanted to stay, floor-wise, and since I asked for a quiet room he gave me a corner room one on the first floor. #136 The room per se was huge! one of the biggest I've stayed in. Really clean, well distributed and even has a little sofa chair which I used to relax till dinner time. He even called to ask about the room and if I needed anything else. Beyond nice!! It has a super comfortable desk to work from and plenty of outlets! especially love the ones at each nightstand by the bed, with 2 outlets and a USB port. Also, the bed is super comfortable and who doesn't like sleeping in a king bed by themselves!?!?! There is also a mini-fridge, a micro and an ice bucket, hidden in a lovely closet, and a coffee machine with plenty of coffee Parking is free which is one of the reasons we got this hotel in the first place, we are here just for a night since we have a workday in the area, is right off the 101 freeway, but far enough you don't hear traffic noise. 100% we will be back! We enjoyed a nice stay here over the Labor Day weekend. We were attending a wedding for a close friend of mine in nearby Ojai. This Courtyard was one of the Marriott properties that popped up so we booked it. It's proximity to the freeway and the complimentary parking were some of the reasons it appealed to us. We checked-in sometime after lunch and after doing some shopping at the Cabazon outlets. We requested a high floor room and we got the 6th floor so that was great. The room was your typical Courtyard room. Modern furnishings, a comfortable bed, small couch, flat screen tv and small fridge. The tv was a little small for the wall unit it was mounted on. They could and should have bigger televisions for their rooms. Nice Starbucks like cafe in the lobby. Staff was friendly and the plentiful free parking was a plus. That's how it always should be. I travel the country on a regular basis, and I only stay at Marriot hotels. Of all the hotels I have stayed at in the past year, the staff at Marriot Oxnard Ventura are a notch above the rest. I have never felt more welcomed and taken care of as a guest than I did at this hotel. Every one of the staff members from the housekeeping, maintenance, front desk, and bistro were exceptionally friendly and kind. It truly made my stressful work trip a delight for me. To the staff, you are all truly incredible and an example for the rest of the hospitality industry on how to treat guests the right way. I will always recommend that anyone I know in the area stays at your hotel and I will let them know how incredibly friendly, kind and helpful the staff is. Thank you again. In terms of the rooms, nice and spacious. Love having my own deck to enjoy some rays! Good amenities, I really liked the Paul Mitchell tea tree set in the showers, great for sensitive/dry scalps. The air conditioners are not in the best layout. Their placement doesn't allow them to evenly cool the room but if you leave it on your entire stay it does a decent job, just expect some cold spots and hot spots around your room in terms of temperature. Beds are relatively comfy, typical hotel bed. I wish the TV's were larger but that's because I stay in these hotels for work and love kicking back and watching a movie after a 12 hour day. All in all, it's what you'd expect from a mid tier Marriot hotel. Rooms are just as good as the Ventura Beach Marriot nearby which I stayed at last month. Having a balcony at this Marriot was definitely better, you pay extra at the Beach one and not every room has one like they did here. I think what makes this hotel truly stand out, is their exceptional staff. They made my stay a breeze and were on top of any problems I had very quickly, as well as helping me change rooms mid stay per my request. The hotel staff at the front desk was ruder than I have ever experienced. When checking in they were extremely rude to the bride and refused to let us check in even though we had called two hours previous and confirmed our room was ready and we would be able to check in as soon as we arrived. The machine to pay for breakfast was not working the morning of the wedding and we were told by the staff to just make sure that we stopped by to pay later on which we agreed to. About an hour later the woman who ran the cafe came up to the room (while the bridal party was getting ready for the actual wedding) and demanded we stop everything we were doing to go down immediately and pay that second. I received a text message to my phone telling me to head down to the lobby and check in for my room for the night after the wedding. I went down and was very rudely told that if I wanted to check in early I'd have to pay for it (the policy is fine but the way I was told was not). I told her no problem I just thought it didn't matter because I had gotten the text that said the room was ready. The response from the woman at the desk was "well some hotels have different policies for telling you to check in" which made no sense as I was only checking in to her hotel. When we left to go to the wedding we politely asked that the room be cleaned before the BRIDE AND GROOM returned to it that evening (meaning new sheets and towels). They told us sure no problem. When we came back around 10 pm the room was exactly as we had left it. No new sheets and no new towels. The bride went down with the groom to complain and the only polite person at the front desk apologized and sent people to clean the room right away while the bride sat waiting in her dress in the lobby. This person explained that the second night for the bride and groom would be complimentary because of the awful experience. In the morning when the bride went to check out the front desk staff absolutely refused to honor their promise to comp the second night. Another bridesmaid found several bugs in her room including cockroaches inside of the mini fridge. When she complained she was told by the staff that they would not do anything for her because she was not a member of the Marriott rewards club. This was the worst experience I have ever had in a hotel and I would NEVER recommend staying here. We called to speak to the hotel manager and we're put through to a manager who does catering. It seems like they are trying to avoid talking to us about their terrible service by putting us through to random people. read more

We called and texted the front desk and they sent sheets but they didn't fit so we had to make due because the front desk didn't act like they wanted to help. The next day we stopped by the front desk and asked if house keeping could come by while we were out and make the bed for us. We came back 10 hours later and our room hadn't been touched. Knowing that housekeeping isn't around at night we didn't even bother contacting the front desk. While sort of making the bed the second night we noticed bugs stuck to the wallpaper above the head of the bed. Also couldn't find the tv remote so ended up unplugging the tv. This was by far the worst experience we've ever had at a name brand hotel. I would really like some compensation for this horrible stay read more

I am staying two nights at this hotel. I was surprised when I came back to my room and found that it had not been cleaned. Upon calling the front desk, I discovered that the policy of this hotel is to clean the rooms after three days. When I asked why wasn't I told this in advance, "that is our policy". Which didn't answer the question. I later called requesting a shower cap, I was told "we don't provide them". Stayed here for 2 nights and likely won't stay again. Pros: - Room is renovated and have a fridge and a microwave. Cons: - Noisy. Our room was facing 101. We asked for a quite room and were given a room on a high floor. Unfortunately it faces 101 so it was not quite at all. - Room is stinky and has no ventilation. As soon as we opened the door we were hit with a strong smell. Turns out this room does not have ANY exhaust, only a filter in bathroom to remove water. So to air it out we had to open the balcony door and leave it open. However since hotel is facing 101 it was hard to fall asleep with all the noise. - balcony has bars which does not feel safe for children. Ideally it would be a glass or at least solid material. - Mesh door lock is broken. There was no way to lock mesh door so we had to block it by a chair to prevent our children from going to balcony. read more

Worse hotel experience ever!!! We booked this hotel as my baby cousin was getting married in the area. My employer booked it for me as a reward, however our experience felt like a torture. I received a call from their hotel asking if we were still coming at around 7:30 pm. I spoke to her confirmed we are on our way, she confirmed 1 room. We booked 2 rooms then she asked me if I wanted to cancel since they only have 1 room. She told me to call Expedia as they only show one room. I called Expedia they reconfirmed 2 rooms. I called the hotel back, they confirmed 2 rooms. As we were driving to the hotel, the hotel calls and cancels us at 11 pm. They were telling us as it was booked thru a third party and they overbooked we don't have any rooms. At 11 pm!!! We get the hotel, the front desk says they have one room with a king bed but they will check with other hotels. They were going to call us... no one did. I called Expedia they said the hotel made a mistake in their inventory. So, they didn't have any rooms for us even though we booked it a month ago. We were charged $1500 but we had no rooms. They didn't care, the hid I. Their room at the back. The hotel didn't care!!!!! If there was a gazillion negative star! That would be their rating! So unprofessional! Worse hotel!!! Do not go there!! I have stayed at this hotel, many times over many years and it has always been a good experience. It was originally part of a small, upscale Ventura County chain of hotels--now, long gone. It has the advantage of being different than the newer Courtyard, but still the same good experience. It is six stories with two separate two story wings attached. All the rooms have a balcony which is a special feature I always enjoy. It's large and full of mature landscaping, the pool area is very nice. On the inside it's pretty much the standard courtyard which is fine and my room is always ship-shape. Staff are friendly and accommodating. It's close enough to the ocean that you get the wonderful weather. So having a balcony to step out on and enjoy the view the sun in the fresh air: instead of a little window, that cracks open 2 inches which is the Courtyard standard these days. It is a big bonus. Like most courtyards, it's next to a freeway, so if you're sensitive to noise, request the non- freeway side or stay down below in one of the wings. Both sides have nice views as once you get up to the third-floor you're pretty much above everything else. The food is the same as you would get on any Courtyard on the planet, but the servers hustle, and are very friendly Same for the front desk, and the housekeeping staff. I like the courtyard product and the new ones are pretty snazzy in the public areas. But I wish I didn't have to be sealed in an airless box staying inside one so this Courtyard is a great change of pace. read more

Horrible place to stay and, unfortunately, the options in this area are very lean Front staff is very poorly trained. They couldn't figure out how to just swap 2 rooms that were already paid for between us and our other guess. (Due to bed choices) Place smelled like urinals. Especially the elevators. Starbucks on property gives us a bill that adds up to $9.50 but charges us $13. And then they say its correct but not labeled correctly. So you have to pay for something thats not on the receipt. (Very shady) We have Gold Elite Status and my son plays a sport which required us to stay later and they wouldn't extend our check out time until 2pm. We are supposed to get 3pm. Front staff admitted they gave others later checkout times. Did they have starwood status? Over-all not a great choice. I would recommend finding an AirBNB or another hotel to everyone.. read more

Great customer service experience! I want to give a shout out to Anastasia who checked us in. The hotel is fully booked! Luckily I had booked our room ahead of time. Upon checkin, Anastasia went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy with our room selection. She was warm and welcoming and made us feel right at home. That being said, the bathroom was not the cleanest so I'm a bit disappointed by that. All in all once again another great experience at Courtyard. read more
