With the other company, as they were working in the garden, we discovered that 1) the retaining wall for all 3 tiers( with one tier supporting surrounding fence as well ) were curving, creating the gap on the edges. We spent $$ to add additional post between existing posts, instead of every 4 feet, we have a post every 2 feet now. 2) Our base-rocks was only 2-3". In our contract with Bloom and Lawn Landscape, it was supposed to be 5". Instead of paying additional $15000++ to fix this problem, somehow, miracles happened that I managed to get hold of Joel, the owner. He came with his new hire, Cesar to evaluate the problem. It seemed that Cesar responded to "my email", except he did not send it to me but only to his own team. I don't know what went wrong in the initial work. I decided not to pursue , we just want the repair done. Too much time and money wasted already. As per today, all the pavers and tuff have been reset. No original ground was removed, but instead they compacted existing ground, and they brought in more base rocks to top up. I did not get to check if it went up to supposedly 5" , I hope they are honest this time. Initially, the crew came once a week, on Saturdays to do the repair, so it took them over a month to complete our garden. After the 3rd Saturday, they came on weekdays too. It could have been done in 6 days. I was getting frustrated, I had to clean the pathway to garden almost every weekend in July after the crew left! I am giving 3 stars because they did a good job to reset the pavers . The crew are courteous and careful enough not to damage our interior ( backyard is lower than basement, with only entrance at street level). Cesar is responsive to my text messages and professional. I do think they are good at what they are doing. I have respect for the crews, not an easy job to be working outdoors in hot sun and strong winds, or foggy cold days. All and all, I am just glad that this is over. Now I just need to repair all the badly scratched up wood planks of retaining wall and wood stairs!

We settled on a date, and he got all the work done in 2 days. I asked him if he could block off the sidewalk, because some people would walk or write their name in the cement. He brought some caution tape and used our garbage and recycling bins to block off the area. If you Google it, you should water your cement a few times during the day so the cement dries slower and sets stronger. Juan was a great guy and so were his people. He can do other things too, just ask him if you have other projects you need done. Mom and the neighbors loved the work also.

It was incredible how quickly they finished they did it all in three days and cleaned up everything afterwards. Our wood gate was starting to rot on the bottom and he suggested replacing it and it matches perfectly It looks fantastic and we are so happy with his work.

I had been trying to find a drainage expert for years to help figure out some issues at my house…read morewhich is on a hill. Edelmar was the first person to really understand the problems and be able to quickly devise and implement effective solutions. I've now hired Edelmar to do a variety of work: water drainage management, retaining wall replacement, wood post replacement, and landscaping. I was actually a little bit worried when I first hired him for the first job, to replace a retaining wall, because his bid was so low. But his crew did good work. There was an insane amount of manual labor involved since the previous wall had basically been overwhelmed with dirt and buried. Several truckloads of dirt had to be disposed of... You can see one of them in the photo. He also installed foundation drainage using the Miradrain product and some base rock. When they dug out the old retaining wall, it also exposed significant amount of damaged siding and waterproofing on our adjacent house. This meant that we had to replace the waterproofing and siding on an emergency basis since it would be nearly impossible to do so once they installed the rest of the new retaining wall. One of Edelmar's brothers, experienced in this area, helped us do this work right on the spot for a fee that I considered completely reasonable. This helped establish trust. I've since hired Edelmar and team for additional work.

They washed down the walkways and sidewalk and made sure to leave everything perfectly clean.

So the first thing I asked when shopping around was if they have both worker's comp AND liability insurance. Not a lot of tree/landscape contractors carry liability insurance, which narrows things down fast. Luis was responsive throughout the process from when I first contacted him to finishing up the job. When I first emailed him, he said he could be out the next day to walk through the yard and give me an estimate. We settled on a date that was just a couple of weeks out. His team showed up early. Luis couldn't be there at the beginning of the day, but the foreman of the team spoke excellent English. I walked through everything with him to make sure everybody was on the same page. The workers were great and had smiles on their faces despite doing backbreaking work on a hot day. They also had a great attention to detail, using hand clippers in places where they could have gotten it done faster with a hedge trimmer but it would have been a sub-par job, IMO. I also spent some time in the afternoon with Luis talking about referrals for replacing a trellis that's on its way out and for maintenance.
