I don't give five-star reviews unless a company absolutely knocks my socks off. Our homeowner's insurance doesn't cover contractors, so liability insurance is a must. So the first thing I asked when shopping around was if they have both worker's comp AND liability insurance. Not a lot of tree/landscape contractors carry liability insurance, which narrows things down fast. Luis was responsive throughout the process from when I first contacted him to finishing up the job. When I first emailed him, he said he could be out the next day to walk through the yard and give me an estimate. We settled on a date that was just a couple of weeks out. His team showed up early. Luis couldn't be there at the beginning of the day, but the foreman of the team spoke excellent English. I walked through everything with him to make sure everybody was on the same page. The workers were great and had smiles on their faces despite doing backbreaking work on a hot day. They also had a great attention to detail, using hand clippers in places where they could have gotten it done faster with a hedge trimmer but it would have been a sub-par job, IMO. I also spent some time in the afternoon with Luis talking about referrals for replacing a trellis that's on its way out and for maintenance. I'm guessing that whoever he refers us to will do an excellent job as well! read more

Lois was extremely responsive, came out the following day for an estimate which was very fair, and literally two days later he showed up with his crew and completed the job. They were very careful and took care of the job within two hours. They left our yard spotless including removing and dumping all of the debris. When contacted, they hide behind email and text and play the "we're a small business" card to try to explain away bad service. Massively overpriced for the service they provide. I am so grateful and happy that Luis immediately reached out after we had a dangerous situation with a large leaning tree that was about to fall on our home. So much so that the fire department had us evacuated and red tagged our home. Jose and team came out the same day to take a look and was back in 2 hours to trim the tree to lighten the load so that it would make it less of a hazard as it was leaning against another. With only one day of clear weather before the next storm they came back and cut the remaining part of the tree and a few other problematic trees next to it. They were so upbeat and so nice through this entire stressful process. Luis (D.B.A. the Pseudonym Jake) is a great guy who also is an expert on trees, while being very professional and trustworthy. When he first came by to see the trees on our HOA property (a dozen trees, including a redwood), he took time to find out what the HOA really wanted done, and what individual owners wanted for the trees on their own back decks. He thoroughly explained everything, including the what, why, where, and which for every tree to be trimmed. He also showed and explained all aspects of his general liability and workman's compensation insurance coverage. During the two days of tree trimming, he again checked with me whenever necessary to ensure each tree was trimmed according to the particular requirements of our HOA. They cleaned up everything when finished, including branches which were on the properties of non-HOA neighbors. Luis, from Jake's Tree Services, gave me a competitive quote to cut down my tall pine tree that had been infested with beetles and died within a couple weeks. I had gotten 3 other quotes from other services on Yelp along with some tree cutters that had passed my house and saw the dead tree. What was important to me though, besides working with someone that gets 5 stars and offers a good price, was that they were bonded and had insurance for their workers and I wanted them protected. A lot of the guys that knocked on my door didn't have insurance so I could have gotten sued if a worker had fallen out of the the tree while working. The team took a day and a half to conquer this old tree. They chopped it down efficiently, cut the majority of the tree into good firewood, stacked the firewood where I requested, grinded the stump, and cleaned up the mess. Luis and his team from Jake's tree service were awesome! One of our palm trees fell over in the recent high wind storms. We needed it chopped up and hauled away and another very tall palm taken down also. This second palm tree was 60 or 70 feet tall! They gave us a great price for both jobs and were able to take care of both the next day. His team was professional and timely and they left our yard even cleaner than it was before they started :-). It was incredible watching how they took down the tall palm. Very methodical and safe. He trains his team very well and they are very respectful of your property. Called Jake's Tree service to compare cost with another company. The price was 30% lower and I felt that Luis understood what I wanted done. He was able to schedule us 1 week after I contacted him. His crew trimmed a very large tree in our backyard. They removed dead branches and thinned it carefully. The tree looks great. When they were finished I wanted a couple more areas trimmed back just a little more and they did it happily. The crew was pleasant and cleaned up the yard nicely once they were done. I have had Luis and his team come out to my house at least once a year for as long as I can remember and I will never call anyone else. They mostly his come in for maintenance every Spring. However, he has done great landscaping in my front and back yard on occasion, and has also revamped my sprinkler system recently. His team is very thorough and detail-oriented and they are also really good guys. And, on top of that, Luis is a superb guy and is also quite interesting. I have a difficult time thinking you will be able to find anyone who does as good of a job as they do, let alone for such a reasonable price. Luis Vazquez, Owner, came out to give me an estimate. I needed to have 7 Monterey Pine trees pruned and 2 removed. (Prepping for what seems to be an El Nino year) Luis was very professional and a very personable guy. In no way did he rush to be in and out of here. He answered my questions and concerns in a very detailed manner. I learned quite a bit from his expertise on tree removal and care. My backyard is on a sloped area, so my concern was for potential trees toppling over, hence the call to Jakes Landscaping. His crew he sent out for the 2 day job, were also very professional. They worked very hard and diligently to complete the job. I noticed too that did not leave the property when it was lunch time. They stayed, ate their lunches and were back to work within 30 min, if that. Samuel, his lead guy climbed those trees with little effort. These trees were over a 100 feet tall ! Safety was a very important issue for me, and I had no worries. The safety equipment that Samuel wore, put my mind at ease. This is the first time I've had to utilize a tree service. Of course I did my due diligence and shopped around. 4 bids. Luis' bid came in the lowest, and his work was the best. Even if all these bids were licensed individuals, I felt rushed by the 3 others. In and out of here in 5 minutes. Jake's Landscape and Tree Service is a company that will not disappoint. I am a strong believer that you get what you pay for, but in the case of Jake's, they certainly give more than what you pay for. They are fair, cost effective, trustworthy, reliable and listen to your needs. No 'LIP SERVICE" here. In fact, the rates were so reasonable that I decided to tip the crew. They respectfully completed the job with a great cleaning. There were not straggler limbs or branches. Even the saw dust was cleaned up. They left my place more spotless than I had it! I even requested some rose bushes and other bushes to be trimmed back that were not part of the original quote. Of course, Luis obliged me with a smile. Tree service is not the only service this company offers. Luis and his crew will be returning to do a major brick work re-lay on our patio. And after that we will have them modify some other concrete work. I cannot wait for Spring 2016 to deal with plants, irrigation etc. Really Jake's is a one stop shop service. Several weeks ago I contacted Luiz at Jake's Landscaping & Tree Services to fix a sprinkler issue that we'd had since November. I found Luiz on Yelp, and the reviews looked good so I called him up. He met me at my house after work that same day. He listened to what we needed to have done with our sprinkler system (including new wiring, a new box, new valves, re-routing the old sprinkler line, and hooking the sprinkler up to a new faucet that we'd had installed previously. I also showed Luiz a tree that had died last year that I wanted taken out. Luiz gave a rough estimate on the spot, and also gave me a few different options to help save some money. He said he would give me a written estimate once he got home, and promised that he'd have it sent to me by 7:00 p.m. that evening. Sure enough, I received the estimate and Luiz followed it up with a call. I told him I wanted to go over the estimate with my wife. The estimate was fair for the work that was to be done, which was a big selling point for me. We accepted the offer, and Luiz's staff came to our house the next day and completed everything we talked about and more. Luiz had recommended moving the sprinkler box to a less conspicuous place, and it was a great suggestion. The box looked great, the workers cleaned everything up before we got home for work, and the tree was taken out. They did it all! And our sprinklers work great, much better than before.
