We been here about 10 times at least once or twice per year, had never had a bad experience, other than having to wait 10-20 minutes for a table, we really like this place over the other ones, lobster is good, the pineapple ceviche is great and their BIG Sonora style flours tortillas are really good, I don't know what is it about their food, but i/we even like their beans and rice, we have tried a couple of other places around there just to see if there any one better, and have not found one, did find some nasty one, that I won't name, but will never go back,,,and is just a few doors down from Villa's, might not be the cheapest but for the good food and their great service that we have always gotten, is well worth it.. read more

I ate here 2 years ago and it was fine. Only thing special is the beach setting and view. they also have some non-seafood items that many other places don't have. But you come here for seafood! Funny how people come to this place in droves with no one advertising this spot like other places. We were approached from the entrance of Puerto Nuevo to this place by 6 people selling us on their location to eat lobster. I gave my business to another lobster location down the street on the beach side who threw us a pitch about their lobster house and specials. This place is the best in Puerto Nuevo. They served us chips and 2 types of salsa, they also served us bread with cream cheese and jalapeño inside. They were really good. When we ordered they brought us tortilla soup while we waited for our big dish. The soup was amazing. When our food arrived I couldn't believe how big and meaty my lobster was. The seasoning on my Lobster was amazing and the flour tortilla was huge, that my boyfriend and I had to share it because it was just to big and we left the other one because we were already full from eating the chips, bread and the tortilla soup. We visited Villa Ortega's when Ace D was so kind as to set up a bus trip to Puerto Nuevo for the Yelp Spring Breakers. I didn't want to be so close to Mexico and not go, and the idea of a village full of lobster restaurants was irresistible. If you don't know (which I'm guessing you probably do if you're searching for restaurants here, but anyway) Puerto Nuevo is a small village in the Rosarita Beach area that is known for their lobsters. I did some research before coming here, and it was pretty much impossible to pick a restaurant ahead of time. I've never seen so many lobster choices in one place, and everyone is trying to get you inside their restaurant. We had decided on Villa Ortega's because a group of friends of ours had been there earlier and the pictures looked amazing, but honestly, the pics from all these restaurants look amazing. This is one of the more upscale restaurants within Puerto Nuevo having a view of the water, so we were being tourists in the aspect, we wanted the view. We were lucky enough not to have a wait to sit out on the deck and our waitress served up a round of margaritas. Maybe it was my mind playing tricks on me and I was romanticizing being in Mexico, but this was the most delicious margarita ever, and I had at least two (that's kind of I lie, I know I had at least three, after that I lost count). Complimentary chips and salsa and some sort of delicious creamy cheesy bread was served. I of course ordered the lobster which is served with soup or salad, rice and beans, and fresh tortillas. This is where those at my table learned what my boyfriend has known for years now. It takes me FOREVER to eat a lobster dinner. I was behind on my salad so I hung onto that, and then the lobster came out, and I like to eat that slowly and enjoy every part (there's meat in the legs too). The rice and beans were decent, the tortillas were huge and amazing, and made for a great snack on the bus ride back (I have a habit of putting random in my purse after I've been drinking...yes I was munching on a tortilla out of my purse on the bus back to America). Overall this was a great experience. Probably one of the pricier options as we did pick one of the more touristy spots, but still a very reasonable lobster and margarita meal. Our waitress was patient and let me try out my Spanish that I think I'm amazing at, but service did get a little slow at the end of the meal...maybe they got busier or maybe she thought we were in for the night to drink margaritas (I wish), but we did eventually get our check to do some shopping before heading out. CASH ONLY here when you pay, and don't be worried if you don't speak Spanish, you'll get by just fine. read more

I haven't been to Villa Ortegas in a really long time. I can still remember having lunch out on the patio, not the best ocean view dining but my Puerto Nuevo style lobster was bomb diggity!!! Yummy to my tummy!!! The meal came with deep fried lobster, beans and freshly made tortillas. Of course I had Dos XX beer to go along with the Mexican food theme. Haha!!! Parking is terrible and these guys are hustling to get you to go to other restaurants that serve the same thing. I've never had any problems at this restaurants. The prices did go up from back in the days when I used to go there. You will not be disappointed and you'll come out of the restaurant happy and satisfied. STAY AWAY! Terrible service. Manager had an attitude. We ordered 2 small lobsters and were told they only had medium and large so we ordered 2 mediums. The wait for our food was long and when our meal finally arrived we were given 3 small lobsters each. And I mean small. We laughed and said they were more like crawfish. The texture was dry and had little black gunk on the shell. We requested to speak to the manager and she agreed the lobsters should have "never left her kitchen". She then said that they have a "special" of 3 small lobsters for the price of medium which our waiter never divulged. She ordered us 2 more medium lobsters BUT again we were given 2 small lobsters!! Unbelievable. Other customers received red delicious looking lobsters next to our table so I know they had good lobsters available. We were previous customers of Ortegas so I don't know what happened that day as when had been there before and had great food. We will NEVER go back. They also sent us over 2 drinks on the house of which I did not drink any but my husband did and he is in bed sick with food poisoning as I write this review. Man the food is delicious here if you order lobster. They drop off chips and salsa. Omg, almost forgot about that starter roll, just a hint of jalapeno cream cheese. It's so dang good, I crave it. Of course we had to start with a michelada, but get it with Bohemia obscura, and add some lime and hot sauce. We started with aguachile, it's basically a shrimp ceviche, just slightly different from traditional ceviche. Our friend said she likes it with crackers or tortilla chips, spread mayo on it, and put the aguachile on top. It's freaking delicious. *insert drool* The lobster meal come with a starter of tortilla soup, yummy. They bring tortillas, your choice of flour or corn (go with the flour), rice, and beans with the lobster. It's sooooooo good. Don't forget to ask for limes. It's higher priced compared to the other places, I'm ok with it cause the view is nice. Don't forget to shop in the store fronts in the small town. Stop at Don Pisto to buy your tequila, they have a crazy good selection. *Tip, don't park in the Villa Ortega parking lot, it's a cluster. Pretty disappointed. Tough, rather flavorless lobster, and prices that wouldn't be out of place in the United States. In all fairness, tried another Porto Nuevo spot two nights later, and their lobster wasn't very good either. The lobsters will NOT disappoint ! If you order medium size, they will bring you 4 small lobsters on a plate. They are grilled and seasoned to perfection. The tortillas are giant sized and melt in your mouth.. So flavorful and made fresh. Large portions of soup and guacamole are good to accompany your meal as well as a cold beer! This place will have live music playing the entire time.. And you can get a private serenade for 10$ .(to much money).. Villa Ortegas has a nice ocean view and the staff is very accommodating .. Other restaurants in Puerto Villa have lobsters as well and are actually cheaper! So while the food is awesome, I will check out another venue next time.. read more

The manager, Jesus, (Don Chuy) is an ass. We ordered Chile's rellenos and they were RAW. My mom took a bite and sent it back, they tried to charge it and I said I wasn't paying for it. My quesadillas were also swimming in grease. The server said the manger said he wasn't talking it off the check so I asked to speak to the manager who said that the food was gross because it's "restaurant food" and it's not like home cooked. He said that he wouldn't take it off the bill because the cooks already worked and that by taking it off they would be working for free. Like it's my job to pay their salary? He eventually took it off and was a compete jerk. He said it was, "just a few bucks" well for just a few bucks you lost repeat business. El gerente, Jesús, (Don Chuy) es un culo. This would be my first time in Puerto Nuevo. I initially drove down to go to another restaurant down the street, however they were close on a Tuesday so end up here at Villa Ortega's. I was rather looking forward to the experience because many people have recommended Puerto Nuevo, however my experience at Villa Ortega's fell short. The food was mediocre at best. The medium lobster was a great side but the seasoning was off and it was just meh. The guacamole and the salsa was the same. Nothing was spectacular at Villa Ortega's. However I did not regret going there for my first time because the view was wonderful but unfortunately I will not come back. read more

We loved everything about this place. The food, the ambiance, and the view. We came in on a rainy Thursday around 11AM. We got seated right away next to the window. There weren't that many people here, as it is tourism off season but we really enjoyed having the main hall to ourselves. We were served right away. To begin our server brought us chips, bread, and salsa. We ordered the augachile and a large lobster to share. There was more than enough food for both of us! I ordered the lobster and steak and my boyfriend ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp and the clam chowder to start. Clam chowder was different. It had small pieces of corn potatoes and clam. It doesn't compare to San Francisco or anything but it was decent. We were excited for our food but I was very disappointed. It is an open patio, the breeze is constant but our food was cold even before it was placed on our table. The lobster had no flavor, the meet/steak was cold, hard and not appetizing at all. I asked the waiter for butter and he brought out a container of hard/cold UNMELTED/UNFLAVORED butter. I couldn't even melt it because my lobster was cold. The potato was decent, I had to ask and add butter and sour cream to flavor it. Overall my dish was a mistake. I ordered a Pina colada which was average. My boyfriend had the bacon wrapped shrimp, it arrived cold but it was pretty good. It is stuffed with cheese. It's sauce did not compliment the dish. He had a Cadillac margarita which was to strong and tasted like cheap Tequilla. The view and jalapeño bread is the only good thing from this place. Had my husbands birthday dinner this past weekend. Service was good, fast service, staff was very nice, No wait time, food prices were good. Eight adults ate for 150.00 with drinks. Surf and turf was excellent steak was juicy and tender, lobster was so good. They had a Trio that played a few songs for us at 6.00 a song. Sunset view was amazing. Overall experience was good we would definitely return and will recommend. Oh and I must say they had the best flour tortillas the size of a large pizza.... best I have ever had !!! read more

We started with the clam chowder bowls and chips wi th h guacamole--- the last 2 places we went to didn't have guac. Great lobster! This is the only place that I could find with its own private parking lot. People on the street will wave you to have you go to their restaurants but this place seems to be the safest. The view is nice, like other reviewers have said. The service, super friendly and fast. The food, two stars at best. I ordered the steak and lobster. I knew it would be a medium lobster, cut in half. I don't mind the size, but the flavor was just not great. The steak it's what it called arrachera, or the type used for carne asada. When I order "steak", I expect a nicer cut. Flavor was again, not there. We got to watch the FIFA World Cup Argentina Semifinal game, so that distracted me (thankfully) from the bland flavor. I am giving it 3 stars because of safety, cleanliness, friendly service and view. But for the price $22-25 range I expect more. For another steak and lobster try La Estancia in Rosarito, it is not on the main street, but it is in a safe, clean and gorgeous location. See my other review for that place. read more

Go to the Ortega's on the ocean side (there's two buildings) and go up the stairs to the right, all the way to the top. Order the lobster special (3 half lobsters with rice, beans, fresh hand made flour tortillas, guacamole, and tortilla soup or something else, chips and salsa) and share it with someone. It's the perfect amount for 2 people. They treated us really well, wonderful service, free tequila shots, and such a lovely ocean view. With beers and tip, we all paid about $25-30. read more

We got the medium lobster and it was perfect. With all the sides and tortillas, we were stuffed. View is terrific and liked that they had a parking lot so we didn't have to be hassled with the guys trying to get you to park in their spot on the street. Price is reasonable but not cheap. read more

This place has it's own parking lot and it's located at the very back end of this whole tourist hole. Amazing views on the patio. Live mariachi music. Full bar. Cash or pesos only. Cheese bread, 2 salsas and chips, and tortilla soup to get the meal started. I had the Camarones al mojo de ajo (garlic and buttered shrimp) which was served with a side of beans, a scoop of rice and mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. He got the beef fajitas that came with super large fresh tortillas that were soft and delicious. We ordered cokes but were sad they weren't the traditional glass bottles with real sugar. It's the Coke names marketing period so my can was named Javier so I did get a kick off that! Out plates were both very tasty and the service was very attentive yet it maintained a lax beach view vibe. Dessert was a cold flan that was rich and perfect to share. We had Fish Ceviche, Jumbo Lobster, and Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. I was very happy with my lobster. Jumbo size we ordered was $40 (really big one), and small one is $20. I'm picky about Fish Ceviche, and this one was fresh. They also serve good Jalapeno Cheese Bread. There were Mariachi singing at dinner time. The dinner rolls with the cream cheese and green chilies are delicious. They don't let you buy those though. The steak and lobster is good. The lobster is a little small, it comes with a baked potato and veggies. The quesadilla is great. Comes with guacamole, beans, and rice. I think they keep their beers in ice day in and out.. we noticed some rust around the mouth of the bottle, so clean it or toss those to the side. read more
