Husband and wife got a night together last night and got a Facebook notice the Ceviche festival was happening at Villa Peru! We had never tried Peruvian food before, but are fans of Ceviche! We had steaks on the counter ready to grill-and put them away to go out to this place! Yum! The food was great, sauces were DELICIOUS, and the staff was so pleasant and very knowledgeable! We tried 6 different ceviches, and a small appetizer, everything was really good! Drinks were affordable and very good, and the atmosphere was very comfortable and warming! The food here is really good but I'm really disappointed in how much this restaurant is taking covid seriously. We were under the impression our party would be seated in an isolated area in the restaurant and come to find that we were seated in a small area in the back with about two other large groups. Good experience dining here on a Saturday night. We waited for a spot on the front patio, no reservations but the wait was worth it. We had two seafood dishes, one ceviche and one causa (?, with potatoes). Probably the best Peruvian food we've ever had, tender mixed seafood, well seasoned, perfectly textured, highly recommended. generally rlly pleased with this spot! the inside of the restaurant is long and narrow but feels very homey with the lighting, seating and open kitchen. we started with the tartido ceviche - it was decent overall. it felt a bit one note, and we ordered it at the higest spice level (spicy), but it was not spicy at all lol. it did have good acidity and sharpness, it really punched through and the fish itself came at a good temperature. i wish the fish was prepared a little bit neater, it kind of felt like chicken giblets, but if you don't think about it too much, it tastes good. for entrées we got lomo saltado and frejoles con seca. if you close your eyes and eat both dishes separately, you think you'd be eating a mexican dish and a chinese dish lol. meaning, i feel like you could find the same dishes at a different restaurant for a better price. we still really enjoyed our time and meal and i had to go back to try some thing different from the menu. read more

If you're craving ceviche, Villa Peru will satisfy your cravings! The ceviche comes in 3 styles which are made to order with leche de tigre, a lime-based marinade with ají peppers - so refreshing and light and you can choose your level of spiciness. We had the ceviche de pescado which features a seasonal fish and is accompanied by red onions and sweet potato. It was the best dish of the meal. We also had a side of yuca frita (also delicious and our second favorite), fried calamari (smaller portion than expected), and queso tequenos. The latter 2 probably would have been better if we had it in the restaurant rather than takeout because they were a little soggy by the time we got home, but definitely something that cannot always be controlled during takeout experience! I don't write reviews often, but felt it important to state that this restaurant does not honor reservations, even if they are made weeks in advance. My husband and I had a reservation for dinner at Villa Peru that was made with considerable notice. When we arrived for the reservation (10 min early), they informed us they had no tables available. We waited 35 minutes past our reservation time while we watched them seat people with our same reservation time,same size party who had arrived later than us. I understand that the restaurant can't control how long people stay at their tables, but their seating of others with the same size party, same reservation time who arrived after us was something I can't understand and something they couldn't explain. Perhaps their food is good, but try for a pop in visit, not a reservation, as the latter do not appear to be respected at this restaurant. read more

I just can't say enough about this restaraunt. The food was on point.. staff was excellent and the ambiance was perfect. This is a family owned restaurant... and you could tell by the attention to detail. The service staff were so attentive and was really focused on bringing superior service. Had the lomo saltado Sunday evening in take outs, it was absolutely perfect even after reheating it slightly in microwave. Tasty, tender, flavors which took me back to our visit to Peru a few years ago. The total score is my final experience where it dictates the amount of stars in the title of the review. Atmosphere: This restaurant is a hole in the wall in comparison to the restaurants next to it. When my father and I were walked to our table we were shocked to see someone playing the harp. With the sounds of the harp playing in the background it gives this place a bit of a classy kind of atmosphere. The menu isn't in English for the most part except for the ingredient section so be prepared to point to the menu items you would like to order. This restaurant does have a bar further towards the back and the kitchen is right up front which gives this place an unique look. Score: 9/10 Food: My father and I both got two completely different foods so that we can get the full experience. I got a plate with what seems like every kind of seafood they had in the kitchen. In the photo I had to move the pile of red onions to the side because it seemed to block the sight of everything on my plate. Now with my dish I was asked what level of spiciness would I like. Now I normally like my food spicy so I asked for it to be medium. My food wasn't what I expected. The sauce was more like a vinegar sauce with a hint of heat that hit you later. The clams were extremely salty to the point where my father and I trade plates. My father ordered a dish with steak and pasta. The menu stated that the pasta sauce was an Alfredo sauce but from from the looks and taste it reminded me more of a rustic pesto with a hint of more salt. The stake was nicely done and was a favorite between the both of us. The snack they gave us is a bowl of unpopped popcorn with dried banana slices with an tasty hot sauce. We couldn't help but laugh that they gave us this unpopped popcorn and how amazing it taste. We ended up getting 2 or 3 bowls full. The deserts we got are Dulce de leche shortbread cookie and their helado de lucuma (signature ice cream). The dulce de leche was very powdery and was nearly impossible to eat with a spoon. Would recommend just picking it up with your hands. The ice cream was really good and reminded me a lot of a sherbet ice cream. Overall the food was a complete hit or miss with each plate. The food could either have too much of a bitterness or too salty. Score: 3.5 Restaurant recommendations: This section is mainly for the restaurant so they know what exactly to work on. It won't affect the score. * Have the cook taste test each plate to make sure it's not too bitter or salty. * Have a translation of the title of each food so that customers don't have to point to the menu * Have better description of drinks Overall score Atmosphere: 9/10 Food: 3.5/10 Friendliness: 9/10 Total: 21.5/30 (71%) Would I come back again? This place used to be in Tempe and the owners are from Peru and true to Peruvian cuisine. We used to dine at their Tempe location a lot. Now that they moved to Tucson they have changed a bit but for the better. Their new place is very trendy and super cute. Their menu is a bit more open in a way to cater to Americans but still pretty authentic. Either way the food is delicious and the service is still great. I'm glad I was able to visit them in Tucson. read more

Atmosphere was very elegant and small. The space is small and narrow, reminded me of a small NYC place. We went on a Saturday evening and there were 2 large parties which took up most of the restaurant. The owner/manager stopped by to welcome us and introduce us to the cuisine. Our server was attentive and explained the menu. We went with suggestion, which were considered their specialty. The Maui ceviche was good and we should have stopped there. The rotisserie chicken was dry and lacking of flavor, the potatoes and salad that came with it were bland. The seafood piyaya smelled fishy and at times like ammonia. It was obvious that the seafood was not fresh. Disappointed. If there is a next time we will choose to just get the ceviche read more

So, so good! Beautiful, clean, nicely appointed restaurant with really great food and wonderful service. I love family owned and operated restaurants and this is a great one. I ordered the Aji de Gallina which was a wonderful, shredded chicken dish with a rich, creamy, flat out decadent aji amarillo sauce. I loved every lush bite of it. When the food was brought out my wife grabbed a spoonful of my dish before tasting her own and immediately started grousing about how she always orders the wrong thing and I always order the right thing and how life is unfair and I secretly laughed because it's true that I'm a great food orderer. But then she took a bite of her own dish and oohed and aahed about how great it was and offered me a bite. It was also wonderful. She ordered the Lomo Saltado, an absolutely delicious beef dish with tons of flavorful pieces of tender meat. She had subbed plantains for the potatoes and they were excellent as well. It was a quandary as to which dish was the best so we finally stopped arguing and accepted the reality that sometimes contests just end in a tie. We're okay with any restaurant that has multiple dishes that are tied for 'best'. We started our meal with the outstanding Ceviche de Pescado. We loved it. Spicy fish and crisp vegetables along with a tasty sweet potato combined to make for a great appetizer. Great flavors that differed from the Mexican ceviches I'm used to enjoying. The bowl of plantain chips and corn nuts along with the little container of tasty jalapeño green sauce that were brought to the table when we were seated was a fabulous opening act. I am quite possibly addicted to those corn nuts. I've been jonesing ever since. The server was patient and explained everything to us. He made great recommendations and entertained our questions with great courtesy. We thoroughly enjoyed everything about our first visit. It certainly won't be our last! read more

Sleek, modern interior, open kitchen, full bar, great Pisco Sours and authentic Peruvian food (some of the group had lived in Peru and several had visited). I'm disappointed. The good: Well-appointed interior (for a strip mall, like everything else in Tucson). Very cheerful and friendly service. The meh: Soft drinks were flat (the server quickly apologized, and they didn't appear on the bill). Salt and pepper shakers didn't work (coarse ground, but small holes, so nothing came out. I had to disassemble them). Rotisserie chicken served with a dull table knife, not a sharp serrated knife (needed to get meat off the bones). "Rustic fries" were Ore-Ida steak fries from the freezer section. Adding insult to injury, the motorized paper towel dispenser in the bathroom was set to provide the bare minimum... meaning you need about four of them to dry your hands. Attention to detail, guys! The bad: The price. My wife had seafood, I had chicken. Both were fine, but nothing memorable. But they were priced like Vivace! An appetizer of yucca fries (basically, six large French fries) was $8.50! At those prices, we didn't even attempt dessert. The place was pretty empty when we were there, but it was a Monday. I would like to start by saying I disagree with the lower rated reviews because this is not an American restaurant. Most countries do not serve "american size" portions when they eat. Furthermore, although it might be more than some would like to spend it is ethnic food that is not readily available in most cities. Now I can start my review since I got the logistical stuff out of the way. The food and service was amazing. Again, non-american tradition the servers are not standing over your table at beck n call but I loved it. The ambiance is beautiful with real wood tables, modern theme metallic siding and a cement floor with etched Peruvian symbols. I went for a date night and it exceeded my expectations. The pisco sour was tasty and fabulous due to the egg white. The sangria was also very good. We ordered an appetizer, ceviche dish and chicken dish. The server (Maggie) brought a beef dish instead of chicken, however she offered to leave it for us and brought the chicken dish. Maggie did not charge us for the beef dish. We enjoyed all of our food and thought it was incredibly flavorful. read more

I loved this restaurant so much, I had dinner and lunch and let me tell you that not even Las Vegas has a Peruvian restaurant as good as this place. I'm always on the hunt for great ceviche and this place has it. I ordered different things from the menu and there was nothing to complain about. Incredible!! My husband and I ordered their summer special rotisserie chicken meal for takeout and just wow! It was our first taste of what I know will be much much more from this amazing little spot! The flavors in every bite were amazing. The green rice is to die for and the extra sauces are incredible. The Pisco sour is perfect for a summer cocktail! And best of all, it is a local family run restaurant with amazing service! After a few days of Thanksgiving, we were ready for something else and Villa Peru delivered. We were hungry and ordered a lot - we tried the Papa la Huanciana to start, which was a nicely cooked and very nicely presented potato in a refined chile-cheese sauce with olive and egg. The Ceviche Carritellero (sampler) was on point, with a couple of varieties of fish ceviche and marinated mussels (delicious, I'd never had this) along with some nicely crispy calamari. Finally, the Lomo Saltado (steak with rice and fries) was quite tasty and refined. Overall, the space and the food was very polished and modern with service to match, to the point that the tables had an artsy shape that unfortunately sloped to make items a bit susceptible to sliding around. Also, it was not exactly cheap but it's definitely worth it, and we left quite satisfied. Worth the trip from I-10 if you're on the road and in the mood. read more

This is only the second peruvian restaurant I have been to so I can't speak for its authenticity but I am rating it based on the food options, ambiance and service. They had a visual menu and it was helpful given a lot of dishes are ethnic and exptic for most of us. Good vegetarian options given peruvian food is meat heavy. Food was tasty and portions were just right. We had a group of 5 and my husband enjoyed the roast chicken, I had the lamb shank which was well done. The restaurant is relatively new and being a saturday night, the waitresses were very busy. I think they must be still working out staffing. read more
