After a few days of Thanksgiving, we were ready for something else and Villa Peru delivered. We were hungry and ordered a lot - we tried the Papa la Huanciana to start, which was a nicely cooked and very nicely presented potato in a refined chile-cheese sauce with olive and egg. The Ceviche Carritellero (sampler) was on point, with a couple of varieties of fish ceviche and marinated mussels (delicious, I'd never had this) along with some nicely crispy calamari. Finally, the Lomo Saltado (steak with rice and fries) was quite tasty and refined. Overall, the space and the food was very polished and modern with service to match, to the point that the tables had an artsy shape that unfortunately sloped to make items a bit susceptible to sliding around. Also, it was not exactly cheap but it's definitely worth it, and we left quite satisfied. Worth the trip from I-10 if you're on the road and in the mood. read more

This is only the second peruvian restaurant I have been to so I can't speak for its authenticity but I am rating it based on the food options, ambiance and service. They had a visual menu and it was helpful given a lot of dishes are ethnic and exptic for most of us. Good vegetarian options given peruvian food is meat heavy. Food was tasty and portions were just right. We had a group of 5 and my husband enjoyed the roast chicken, I had the lamb shank which was well done. The restaurant is relatively new and being a saturday night, the waitresses were very busy. I think they must be still working out staffing. read more

This maybe the best FoodStartup in Tucson at the moment. The food and service is very very good. All four dishes we ordered were excellent. To be honest, after a few bites I felt that we had left Tucson and we were in a restaurant in Berkeley, New York or Los Angles. Sitting outside can be problematic at times, car headlights can shine in your eyes. This could be solved with strategic hedging. I would have been interested in trying a Peruvian wine with our meal had it been offered. We will be coming again. read more

The standard free appetizer was a blend of dried plantains and corn with a green chili like dipping sauce to die for. This place is definitely not worth it. The food was an extreme disappointment. I paid $25 for a plate with potatoes and mayo. My friend order the rotisserie chicken and it was not fully cooked! Don't even get me started with the service. The waitress was extremely rude and absent most of the time. We later found out it's because there's an automatic gratitude tip for larger parties. As a Peruvian (Born in Arequipa) I would say the recipes are as close to authentic I have tasted here in Arizona since Candela's on Oracle closed about ten years ago. I ordered the Papa a la Huancaina and licked my plate as I got it to go and was enjoying it in the privacy of my own home curtains drawn. My son ordered the Lomo Saltado and I sampled his. Just the right amount of whatever it is that gives it that rustic flavor I cannot describe other than to say maybe red wine and some smoke and of course the aji. I hope this place thrives as I do not want to drive to Phoenix or L.A for my Peruvian food. Thank you for opening this restaurant in our humble pueblo. read more

Coming from L.A. I've had a log of good Peruvian food before. This wasn't one of those kind of places. To be clear, the food wasn't bad. But it wasn't very good, either - and with the price and environment of this place that all made for a sorely disappointing experience. The highlight of the food was the $13 papa rellena, which was only 2 bites. For the same price you can get a full meal at most other restaurants. The lomo saltado was bland and overcooked, with fries cut way too thick and not even mixed in. The rice had no flavor or seasoning. You're better off paying for 2 meals somewhere else. On top of the disappointing food, the inside environment was awful. The tables are tiny, with no room in between either. You can barely move your chair without jumping into the person sitting behind you. They apparently can't afford air conditioning despite their outrageous prices. With an excessive heat warning in Tucson and a high of 108, it actually felt cooler outside than it did inside. They also apparently don't have an ice maker, as they served room temperature water. There was a loud clarinet player inside a few feet away, so you can barely hear yourself think. It definitely ruined whatever semblance of intimate vibes it had. The server wasn't terrible, though a little on the inattentive side. He asked if it was our first time, which it was, but offered nothing beyond that. If it had just been mediocre food and service and not ridiculously overpriced, this would at least have been a forgettable date night. With how awful and disappointing this was, though, it was the wrong kind of unforgettable read more

What a great experience!!! The food was amazing and flavorful. We ordered ceviche which was fresh and thoroughly seasoned. It was truly refreshing and wished we had ordered another. We got the picante de mariscos and lomo saltado. Both were fantastic. Great flavors!!!! Cocktails were strong and not watered down. Perfecto! Live music was a nice touch for the dinner. Villa Peru is quaint, romantic and a tucked away restaurant located in the foothills. The restaurant itself is beautiful and I can't say enough good things about the food and service, quite literally everything is good. Their menu covers all the bases, their ceviche is light and delicious but when you're craving a good hearty meal; Villa Peru is also there to save the day. Their rotisserie chicken is superb. My personal favorite is the firjole conseco beef dish but I've tried a variety of items on the menu and I haven't had a single bad thing to say about anything. They have a good beer list and a wide variety of alcoholic beverages to meet anyone's needs. For being located in an area that is heavily congested with high end chain restaurants, Villa Peru is a breath of fresh air. It is family owned and operated and the owners (Chuck and Frida) are kind and charismatic. Usually amazing food. This is the third time visiting this place. During this COVID-19 time my family and I try to support local restaurants twice a week. We ordered the whole chicken, 3 orders of cerviche and various sides plus dessert. They packaged our usually amazing cerviche in square flimsy to go boxes. My favorite part the broth ended up in the plastic bags they were packaged. Some of the sauces that were sent with the Yuka sides spilled all over the bags. Overall they need to work on their packaging. Our cerviche was okay because it lacked the broth. Tonight's meal felt like overpriced-half done food. Better to enjoy in person. read more

Oh, after my lunch today, I am a BIG BIG fan of Villa Peru! The restaurant is tucked away in the mix of businesses in the complex at the intersection of River and Campbell. It's a bit hard to find, but upon entering the restaurant, you can tell immediately that the place has class and style. The decor is attractive, well-presented, and not expansive, but they use the space very well. I had the Ceviche Mixto for lunch and, as I love ceviche, I was extremely happy to have ordered this dish. With a luscious mix of shrimp, octopus, fish, and other seafood, all in a lime dressing with a tasty slice of sweet potato, this was an ideal lunch meal. Tasty, light, refreshing, well-presented, and absolutely excellent. Truly delighted with this meal from beginning to end. Also, the service was prompt, friendly, and attentive without being over-bearing. Best ceviche I've had in Tucson. The mahi-mahi and other seafood ingredients were very fresh. The sweet potato is a nice touch and really balance the flavors. The server was a bit awkward. I would ask pretty basic menu questions and he didn't know how to answer them and I had to keep elaborating what I was asking. We also ordered the roasted chicken which was fine but not memorable. We also upgraded to the plantains which was soggy and sweet. I think a crispy crunchy texture would of been better. Can't wait to try the other ceviches! read more

It was my birthday, wanted to try this place for a while now, so we went to celebrate on a Saturday. First, I follow this restaurant on Instagram, and they follow me, so the media person was gracious enough to give me a reservation through Instagram. I had a paella type dish , it was great, with Prawns and a real nice light garlic on the rice. My mom had the real Paella, it was also very good. My wife had the charred steak with rice and fried sweet plantain, that was my fav. The place is narrow and long, very nicely decorated, the chefs, who is the owner, along with the daughter and wife, dressed like real chefs, nice touch. The customer service and all around attention, over the top. They have live music on Thursday I believe, also on the weekends. Go try this authentic Peruvian place, you won't regret it. read more

We were at this restaurant with a reservation at 6:30pm (week ago) Freida the server is the owner's daughter and I did not feel to us like she cared for her Mexican customers who were at Villa Peru for the first time, she was more concerned with pleasing her white American customers than her Mexican American customers equally and it took 1 hr and 1/2+ to get our food and appetizers prior to that, of course to no surprise there was cero apology on her part, she never acknowledged the kitchens issues they were having and her follow up was less than perfect, her white American customers got served and her undivided attention but my guest (party of 6) were treated like they did not mattered, when the food finally got to us, like our appetizers they were semi-warm, the meals did not get to us for about an an hour and a half, just about the time they were about to close; we are avid foodies and have been to many restaurants and yes we have experience on what great customer service looks like at family owned venues, but Villa Peru definitely did not meet our expectations, poor service, poor tasting food and cold since the server didn't bother to check on our meals status. The rib eye plate was luke warm and apparently they run out of one of their menu choices but told us about it an hour later, so one of my guests didn't get that meal they wanted. This was a Saturday evening event, how are you not prepared for a weekend venue. Most definitely we do not recommend this place at all, what a burger has better service- please don't waste your time with this awful service. This was bad service 100%! read more

This restaurant is located on River Road Jossler Center. The sign is very small. It is where Contigo used to be. near Sullivans so look carefully. They should put a sign that is lit up and not just a small sign because you really cannot read from street. Saying this, the food was fantastic. It really was Peruvian food and fresh. Mom and Dad in open kitchen cooking and family owned. I had a Pisco Sour which is the authentic drink of Peru & Very good. We started with sharing the Ceviche Mixto Afrodiciaco. The fish was fresh, taste delicious and we devoured it. Full of fish, octopus, shrimp, calamari, mussels, clams Peruvian corn and Unique flavors that we both couldn't stop eating it. I would have dipped bread in the juices if it was served. Then we each had another seafood dish. I had Arroz con Mariscos which is a Peruvian style Paella. Rice was outstanding and full of fish. My husband had the Arroz marino and that was great. The only suggestion I would have is rice should be hotter. It was very warm but not very hot. Very disappointing. 5 people in our party. 20 minutes for beer to arrive after order. Our waiter had to pour the drinks, bar tender apparently did not know what to do. I ordered churrasco which was described in menu as ribeye. Other person in our party ordered beefsteak. The meat on both orders was identical - - mine was definitely not ribeye, New York steak, tough and medium well even though I ordered as medium rare. My daughter ordered the half chicken. Took two bites and declared it to be quite tasteless. Brought it home just to throw away. My son had a good meal on a previous occasion which is why we went. He also found his shredded chicken meal to be very disappointing. I wish I could recommend this restaurant, but for the $150 I spent (3 alcoholic drinks, 5 entrees, and one sad appetizer) I simply cannot recommend. read more

I'm sad to write this review because I love Peruvian food and would love to love this restaurant. But I hope management reads this and learns from it. I'm also writing this from the perspective of someone who worked in restaurants and catering for years. My first sour experience was about 6 weeks ago when I ordered takeout. I didn't pay attention when I paid the bill but a little while later I had a call from the girl who had helped me. She sounded so upset, she had undercharged me about $25. I felt bad so I agreed to her fixing the charge. I didn't like it because it was her error, but she sounded so upset and I thought she was probably a server and might get in trouble or have to cover the cost. But none the less, no restaurant I worked in would have done that to a customer. It's simply bad taste. This past Sunday I went with my boyfriend's family for Mother's Day. He had made a reservation. His mom is from Peru and has been excited to go there for months. It was quiet, not many customers. Which was actually nice because it's a tight space without the buffet. The only option was the buffet, which was not explained to my boyfriend when he made the reservation. The cost of the buffet and what was included was not advertised anywhere. There were no special printed menus, it was not written on the chalkboard outside or by the hostess stand. It was not mentioned by our server. We were offered mimosas, Bloody Mary's and pisco sours with the brunch. Most of us had 2 drinks each. I found the food fairly difficult to serve. Much of the food was in clay pots with covers that had to be removed and put where? There was no room on the table. So you have your plate in one hand the cover in the other and how are you supposed to put the food on your plate? And there were not even enough serving utensils for each dish. So the spoon from the seafood dish was being used to serve the beef. Not the end of the world but I don't like seafood so I wasn't thrilled. Plus, I noticed much of the waitstaff was hanging around the bar just watching us all struggle with the stupid covers to the pots. I also thought it was set up poorly. You could see there were desserts and treats at the end of the bar. Everyone in my 7 person party missed the empanadas and causa that they had placed in the corner. We only found them there when we had moved onto dessert. Had I known they were available, I certainly would have eaten some with my meal. And again, the waitstaff was all standing around back there, and it was clear nobody else was finding those dishes because they were virtually untouched. Somebody could have pointed us in that direction. I also believe that the woman who had called me to charge me for the take out is a manager or perhaps owner? She was there with her two small children who played at the countertop while the man who appeared to be her husband tossed a football out back. I would not have thought anything of this and would not be writing this review except that the cost of the brunch was absurd. $65 per person for the buffet and one alcoholic beverage. This is more of a fine dining price without the experience. For the amount we paid in the end, we should have gone to Loew's Ventana Canyon and had bottomless alcohol or Vivace for amazing food and experience. It's all the little things that added up to a mediocre experience. Not advertising the cost anywhere that we could see is wrong and made this mediocre experience a bad one. And we should have been told we were to be charged for the second drink. The food was fine. Which is the only reason I'm giving Villa Peru 2 stars. It's the best Peruvian food in town, but that's not saying much because I've had far better in other cities. My boyfriend's Peruvian family was not at all impressed with the food. It's clear to me the management needs assistance in running this business. I'm hoping they use this review to improve their business and customer experience. read more

Four of us ate dinner at VP last night. Everyone felt that their dinners and the appetizers were "excellent" as was the service. Of particular note, was the Peruvian paella dish which was one of the best paellas that I have had in years. I accompanied it with a glass of Vina Eguia Reserva 2018 Rioja, which was light, smooth, and rich in fruit. A solid 4+ star restaurant; we will return. read more

The positive - the staff are really nice, and their wine prices aren't outrageous. The negative 1) there just shouldn't be a table that close to the bathrooms. No one wants to hear flushing and other noises while they are trying to enjoy their meal. 2) We spent $70 on 2 appetizers and 3 pisco sours. No main course, no dessert.
