I had the pleasure of working in Davis for 6 months! And I was lucky enough to work just a few steps always from this lovely bakery! My co-workers would always come back from break or lunch with delicious pastries, pizza slices and coffee! They told me to come visit Village Bakery and to see for myself! And it didn't disappoint! They do get busy around lunch so expect a little bit of a wait when ordering. It's very nice and clean inside, they have a gated outdoor patio where you can enjoy! Customer service is friendly! Spacious inside and they have all kinds delicious pastries, breads, pizza, coffee drinks! I was taken back by the selection. I did enjoy their tiramisu, wasn't very sweet which I enjoyed throughly! The BEST DESSERT IS THEIR FRUIT TART!! OMG IT WAS SENT FROM THE ANGELS ABOVE!! The picture speak for itself! And their homemade chocolate chip cookies! Ughhhhhh sooo goooooood! Their ice mocha was good and strong! The cocoa was the real deal and not SUGAR! When in Davis, come by!!!

I went again, and the place was hoppin'. It's nice to see that the new location could be a trendy hit. I tried a new offering: pizza alla pala. It is a street food pizza in Rome. The name means "on a board," after how it is traditionally served. The crust has a long fermentation, giving rise (no pun intended) to a crust that is crispy on the outside, and a cloud on the inside. This slice is made with eggplant, and is highly reminiscent of Eggplant Parmigiana. A definite win for Aziz in his new location! I got a chance to talk to him, and he seems optimistic.

    Good times ...

Have been getting Village Bakery pizza for over a decade and had the chance to try the new location. The pizza is just as good as it's always been! New space is a lot bigger with plenty of tables. Got the spinach and the red pepper goat cheese pizzas both of which I highly recommend!

This is my favorite lunch at Village Bakery.

You can get a slice of pizza from 3 options in the pizza case. I opted for pepperoni, but there are vegetarian options. I enjoy a nice can of RC Cola as my tasty beverage. For dessert, there is the chocolate eclair -- this tastes just like a Boston crème pie. This is a renovated space from a prior business, and they did an excellent with the new space. They also sell fresh baked bread. The staff are friendly.

There is a lot of table space in the cafe and when UC Davis is in session, I've found many of the tables to be occupied by students doing just that. Mishka's Cafe has been around since 1995 and is a beloved place in Davis. It's a traditional cafe that has a welcoming atmosphere. When you first walk into the cafe you'll see the food case just to your left. It is filled with cafe items such as croissants, muffins, and cookies. There are savory items as well as sweet. I found the quality of the food here to be quite good and unique. Sometimes cafe food just feels like it came from somewhere else, but even if these did, they have a uniqueness about them. For example, the chocolate croissant is very flakey with a good amount of chocolate in the interior. It really surprised me! I also found the ham and cheese croissant to be very rich in flavor. My only gripe about either or these items was the heating method. I'm not sure how they are heated up, but they feel as though they used one of those quick heaters to quickly get them ready rather than a good toaster to get the items nice and crisp. As good as they are they were a bit limp due to the heating method. In terms of coffee, it's perfectly adequate. They have special offerings as well as their traditional menu. I found the coffee to be mild and friendly. It's not too strong nor very unique. It's just a solid cup. Sometimes that's really all you need.

We opted for the High Tea service, which included multiple pots of tea (two per person), perfectly baked scones served with heavenly house-made Devonshire cream, delicate finger sandwiches, a selection of French desserts, and fresh, seasonal fruit. Everything was delightful, the scones with cream were divine, the curried and garden sandwiches were flavorful and fresh, and the teas were beautifully brewed and fragrant. This wasn't just a meal, it was a full sensory experience. The ambiance, the presentation, and the attention to detail made it a truly memorable outing.
