I was looking around in metroplex for Italian bakeries that were to my liking..we visited the bakery on the oaklawn area on Saturday... we bought 2 almond/Nutella croissants... they were quite dry and with minimal Nutella..also ordered a slice of carrot cake. It was moist and very good... I was well pleased with the people serving. Ambiance was very nice too.. Now, would I go back again.. I don't think so.. read more

There's a certain romance about a French bakery that has allured me for as long as I can remember. I'm always on the lookout for a great French bakery. And while visiting Dallas, and in search of a good cup of coffee, Village Baking Company came up in my search. It was only a mile away from where I was staying, so of course, I had to go. Ah... the aroma of butter and yeast... That's what hit me as I walked in the door. It's a small place with only a few tables, but it's neat and clean and well-lit; definitely not a hole-in-the-wall. The staff consists of young folks who are super-friendly and even somewhat playful, cheerfully bantering back and forth with me, and I really appreciate that! They make the experience just that much better! As for the baked goods, the butter croissants are divine! Just how I like them with a crunchy, flaky exterior, but a chewy interior - perfect for dipping into coffee. I got my sons a couple of pain au chocolat. I had a taste and they too were superb. We also ordered a small coffee cake for breakfast the next day. Well, it's the next day as I write this, and it's awesome - a nice accompaniment with my morning "go juice." The ultimate test for a French bakery, at least for me, is how they make their baguettes. I run a small, home-based bakery, and my specialty is the baguette (it's one of the hardest types of bread to make well because of the technique), so I'm super-critical of a bakery's ability to make a good baguette. Village Baking Company makes a good baguette. It ticks off all the boxes for me: light and airy with a thin, crispy crust. The crumb is nice and billowy. Can you tell I like this place? This place is AH-mazing!! From the customer service to the quality of the product. I came in this past Saturday for a quick bite before venturing around downtown. This location seems a bit weird to get to due to the location but I assure you that it's perfection. I was met with smiles from Emma and Chanel both of which knew their product very well. They walked me through everything and were patient and kind. I ended up getting everything from bread to pastries but my favorites so far are the rueben sandwich, chocolate chip cookies, financiers and the sourdough bread. I will be back. This was my first time trying Village Baking Co., I heard great things so I was excited to finally give it a try. My boyfriend and I picked up the laminated brioche, chocolate croissant loaf, and a quiche lorraine. We also got an iced caramel latte and a hot vanilla latte. The lattes were decent, nothing to write home about. I wish the caramel syrup had been mixed in with the coffee instead of coating the cup but a short walk outside helped it melt into the drink. I loved the laminated brioche! The outside was crunchy and sugary and the inside was soft and sweet. I wasn't a huge fan of the chocolate croissant loaf but my boyfriend enjoyed it. The quiche was good too, I would order it again, but I don't think it's an item I'll be dying to come back for. Overall would definitely recommend for a quick weekend breakfast! read more

I love ordering from here via Uber Eats. My fave sandwich usually sells out early, but if you get a chance to try the Jambon Burre you totally should! I also try a new loaf of bread each time and have always loved each selection. The pastries and coffee are great, too, and I'm partial to any fruity brioche ones! So so yummy! read more

Driving down Irving Boulevard in West Dallas is a high density industrial truck automotive area. Theres not much too see or expect. Oh, but the correct left turn Clyde by a Goodyear outlet. And you have arrived in carbohydrate pastry heaven. Oh yeah!! Tucked into a less than curb appeal non retail strip is some of the best baked goodies in Dallas. Village Baking is the real butter and flour magic deal. Getting out of your car, one can almost be bowled over with the down right sinful and delightful aromas of freshly baked items waffing into their parking lot. If you are dieting, do a drive by sniff and go. It's all the flavor minus the calories. But be careful. Those hot out of the oven scents gonna get you into their intimate storefront drooling over their speciality baked decadents. Betcha it will. Their layered buttered croissants are what seems like several feet of never ending foodie nirvana. After one bite, their flaky lightly sweet concoctions are gonna make your eyes roll back in your head in all the right ways. Oh yeah. You know what I mean. When expectation meets results, everybody wins. Yup. Indeedy. Now bring your cash or plastic, cause your loose pocket change ain't going to afford the superb quality happening here. Yes, $4.50 for one brick life changing croissant is on the pricery side of eating. But will be worth every bite, morsel, and olfactory experience in my humble opinion. And with multiple flavors to enjoy: plain, chocolate, almond, jalapeno bacon cheddar, goat cheese onion etc....they are all amazing. I have eaten most of their varieties, in the foodie theory of having somewhat complete palette pleasing first hand knowledge. It's a tough dirty gig, but someone's got to do it. Their traditional breads are incredible as well. There are sliced and bagged sourdough or wheat. With artisan Meyer Lemon Rosemary rounds. Delicious in every way. There are of course a dozen other things too. My only negatives. Service can be slow and more focused on tips than engaging in repoire. Ouch! Plus questions on bread storage were answered awkwardly and without much truth or confidence. Loving a companies product, but not their service is complicated. I don't visit more knowing my exchanges are lackluster, but their delicacies are out of this world. It's a 1st world problem. Go anyways, cause their baked goodies are fantastic. read more

Went to the location on Travis. I'd SMSA's if you love to grab and go this is the place for you. Oh and you can bring your giant dog with you, so that's cool. The croissants are plentiful and they had a pretty great assortment of pastries and cakes. Don't come thinking you can use the bathroom cuz they don't have one. In search of a piece of pie, I ended with a great find of Chocolate Cannele - Hmmm, I'm in trouble now! A shame it'll be if I didn't go in, located beside train tracks, a small iron gated opening to their small parking lot, looks like a warehouse factory! Comfortable once parked, seeing their beautiful sign of "Boulangerie", peeks of baguettes and loafs through window, knew then it's going to be a find! Entered into the aroma of baked goods, late afternoon it was already, girl behind display was charming, was told most things sold already! Didn't quite live up to the hype in my head.. yes, everything on display looked absolutely delicious and beautiful. But, eating them was just a tad underwhelming. They have quite a variety of croissants (salty and sweet), but I think I just prefer a simple butter croissant, or a chocolate one if I'm feeling extra. We got a pretzel croissant that was WAY too salty, which was sad because it was by far the most expensive one we got. We also tried a fruity pastry and a couple other things, but again, nothing really blew us away. I can't wait to go back! My first visit was amazing! I'm a bread lover! I went when it was snowing and there were so many options there. Rebecca the cashier explained what everything was and I bought everything. I tried so many things and I loved it! Not a fan of the cinnamon swirl bread, but the almond crossiant, ham and cheese croissant, the raspberry kouign amann, and the regular kouign amann. Everything was absolutley delicious!! Re-writing my review the last one never made it on the post? We visited Village Baking with my parents from out of state two weeks ago on Saturday morning. My wife and I were ver excited to show off this coffee shop and bakery since we just moved to Oaklawn ourselves from Florida 6 months ago. We sat inside enjoying our coffee and croissants, many people walk in with their furry friends, in my opinion this has become overbearing with people attached to their dogs everywhere and not respecting other peoples boundaries/ personal space with their dogs. A lady walked in with here little dog, her dog started to bark loud but she thought this was cute and proceeded to take pictures of her dog inside. She purchased her food and coffee and sat at the table next to us with her dog trying to lick us us all, my mom who is a big time dog lover tried to pacify the lady and pet her dog to get her to keep her dog by her table and not around us while we ate. The lady proceeded to break apart her food on the top of her table while feeding her dog , her dog actually was standing with paws on the table licking and eating her croissant off the tabletop! another lady walked in soon after with her dog and the original dog lost his mind barking loudly disturbing the whole shop and wouldnt stop barking. The lady who just walked in immediately left to defuse the situation, the other dog wouldn't stop barking so she proceeded to leave but apologized to everyone in the bakery. We sat there another 30 minutes, nobody in the bakery walks around cleaning the tables or sanitizing them between customers or after dogs eat off the tables?? Another customer sat at that same table and I mentioned to them the lady who sat there before fed her dog off that table top and the dog had its paws on the table as well, they thanked us and left! As soon as they left another lady walks in with her dog who was sitting on the grass turf area outside, her dog pooped and she came in to get napkins to pick it up but then came back inside with the poop in the napkin and threw it in the trashcan right next to our table by the side door. Now we smell it in the trash, we had enough of this and left! We most likely will never come back to this bakery, it is not clean inside especially if dog owners are throwing their dog waste in the inside trash and tables not wiped down. I'm not sure what is going on with people these days and so many dogs everywhere in restaurants and stores, its the 10% of these owners who will ruin businesses and the privileges for others to bring their dogs. Tip- Owners of Village Baking, perhaps add a poop receptacle outside for dog waste and keep animals outside while others could enjoy dog free area inside while eating unless your striving to be a destination dog park coffee shop. read more

Has it changed?! Please go back to the original and start putting more almond paste in your almond croissants!! I used to brag on this place all the way from Austin that these were THE best almond croissants around. And they were about a year ago or so. Every time recently (at all store locations) the almond croissants barely have any almond paste in them, like just takes like a regular dry croissants with loads of shaved almonds on top. The almond filling is the best part and what makes these stand out. If your hurting, raise the price but don't sacrifice the quality and taste of your super tasting croissants. The other location downtown always has the rudest workers too..like give you the dirtiest looks if you don't tip on putting a croissant in a bag. Just saying! read more

This place is such a hidden gem!!! I had heard from a friend who previously lived in Paris that this little bakery was very authentic (especially their baguettes), so I had to try it out. I could only go in the evening when the pastries weren't as fresh, but they were still delicious. I ordered a plain croissant and a raspberry kouign amann (which was recommended by the employee). The croissant was pretty good, though I wish it were a little lighter and flakier. I assumed it was because I came too late in the day. The kouign amann was amazing! It was perfectly sweet and caramelized on the outside and gooey on the inside. I can't wait to try more things in the future! read more

What a gem! I came here at 7:02 on my way to work and was greeted by white Scandinavian decor, the crisp smell of butter pastries and coffee! It's a small space but very clean, minimalistic but well functioning. You can see through the service area to see the whole baking process. They were still putting new batches in. I work in food industry and was delighted to see clean, happy bakers making my food in small batches :) I got their famous pastry and a croissant and they were both delightful. The flakes are well apart, crunchy and thin and the insides were moist and flavorful. I'm coming back tomorrow to take some home for my husband :) read more

I was asking questions about the sandwiches, specifically the ingredients cause they weren't listed anywhere, and got a kinda "duh why don't you know the ingredients?" attitude from the checkout person. I'm so sad Village Baking moved locations-- they used to be right next to my office off 75 but now they are in the design/warehouse district. Those truckers must love overpriced pastries! The parking lot is spacious but there's not too much else around, only warehouses and loading docks. My favorite items are the raspberry kouign amann (still not sure how to pronounce) and almond and chocolate croissants. These will set you back $4-5. Their loaves are also really tasty, perfect for sandwiches or picnics. I was less than impressed with their cookies- while large, they were a little too overdone for me (I prefer them gooey and chewy). They also have sandwiches, but they aren't always on display- just ask. A ham, cheese, and butter on baguette will set you back $9 but it's sooo good. I make a habit of searching for artisan bakeries wherever I go and Village Baking is one of the best. The retail shop is small but I walked in about 1000 and they were very well stocked. I tried the kouign berry, chocolate AND traditional. All were excellent. They use a more dense croissant-type dough that is well formed and flavorful. I also got a 15-year sourdough and it was one of the better loaves I've had in my travels. It's in my top ten. Highly recommended! Pop off your flight from Love field and make the short trip. The pain au chocolate at Village Baking is also really good, and the baguettes are always crusty, flaky, and chewy all at once -- all good signs of well baked baguettes. The dining area here is tiny, and the whole place seems set up for take-out orders (especially corporate ones). One gleaming white Yelp star docked in this review for timeliness. (Service here, while generally friendly, can be a bit slow. Also, the doors don't always open right on time. I've been here multiple times and it's always fantastic. Be sure to go in the morning because they always sell out near closing time - their baked goods are that good. They have a couple of pastries that are fantastic. I forget what they're called but talk to chefs behind the counter they are always really helpful. I am actually writing this review more to recognize the extraordinary service that we experienced more than anything else. I walked in and asked for recommendations - to which they happily responded with a wealth of options. Given then variety, we naturally flip-flopped our order at least a half-a-dozen times. They were still very polite and accommodated our clearly annoying order with a smile. Finally, when they returned change on our order, someone in my party decided on of the bills was ripped. Without hesitation one of the vendors whipped out his personal wallet and offered her change. We were clearly not the best customers but each of the employees maintained their demeanor and treated us with professionalism and a smile. While I do miss the cozy little University shop I am glad that VBC has been able to expand albeit to a bit of an industrial space in a very remote part of a warehousing district in Dallas. There weren't many pastries left to choose from when I arrive around noon on a workday to nab a baguette. I could see the crew making bread by peeking through a tall window but had a clear shot of the deck ovens lined up churning out fresh loaves. Unfortunately there was only one worker and two fussy people ahead of me. I simply needed 1 baguette and to be on my way, but it was good to find out in all of that waiting that they can slice their loaves for you if you so desire. Overall it's a cute place and they tried to make it welcoming with a sitting area and espresso machine but I still prefer their Boulangerie location to this new warehousing one, but the bread is still just a great. read more
