Classic local breakfast spots that's built for regulars. Menu is pretty extensive but mostly simple comfort food rather than trendy ones. It's my first time here but my friend has been here a few times before and she's always had a good experience. Service is friendly and efficient considering how busy it can get in the mornings (especially on a Sunday). Some dishes can be a little greasy (the hash browns) but that's expected. Everything is good here except the food. It's just nothing special. Hash browns are usually served mushy and room temperature. Eggs are okay. Pancakes are okay but other menu items leave plenty to be desired. Had a burger once and it was undercooked, I had to send it back. The service is good as is the ambience. The food was delicious! My gfriend had an omelette and I had a chicken salad sandwich. Both were great! We wanted a place close by but didn't want fast food. The Village Cafe was perfect. VC atered an event for a nonprofit I work with, so i can't comment on the service. The food was fantastic. Village provided three dishes, including two vegetables and an entrée. The vgetable dishes were wonderful: potatoes--which tasted like mashed potatoes were prepared in the skin, and a selection of grilled root vegetables and asparagus. The chicken was prepared in a light cream sauce with mushrooms and grilled asparagus. read more

Years ago this space was a horrible Chinese buffet until a couple from the Chicago area bought it turned it into a family diner that was open all day. That family was so kind and involved with their business and put care into the food they sold. When we weren't dining in for breakfast food or the dinner fried chicken or gyro we would go up there and buy quarts to go of their incredible beef barley soup. The owners would also talk to my kids and they knew us by face when we entered. Sadly, I heard they ran into some medical issues and the business was sold to someone else. The food never tasted the same to us so we stopped going. Then it seemed like the place was hardly even open as the hours were so limited. Mostly just breakfast a couple days a week. Then during Covid and post covid I think it actually did close down, but eventually it was reopened with another owner and some remodeling started taking place on the inside for the better. The hours seemed to expand some and they started offering some alcoholic beverages at brunch like Bloody Mary's and mimosas. They had some menu changes too, but to date the food still doesn't taste like the first Chicago owners. The barley soup is no longer desirable to us and the French onion had numerous pieces of seeds in it the last two times we've ordered it so we stopped buying it since we couldn't even figure out what kind of seeds it would be, but it was overloaded with them that we were discreetly picking them out of our mouth and putting them in a napkin. The first time it happened we thought it was an accident and they made their way into the soup during prep, but after a second time we figured it was just something odd with their recipe. We went a couple months back and got the porky pig skillet with scrambled eggs and pancakes and the turkey melt with a side salad with coffee and hot tea. The pros and cons: turkey melt was good but had a bit too much fryer taste for a my liking. The side salad was HUGE (a meal in itself), but there were huge chunks of ice cold nearly frozen iceberg lettuce that was unappetizing. The house made ranch dressing was overly seasoned for basic ranch. The porky pig skillet with scrambled eggs was flavorful according to my spouse, but the pancakes they brought him looked like they were the size of half dollars or for a child. We also didn't realize that hot tea doesn't come with a refill which was surprising since it was the same price as coffee billed at $3.00. If I had known that, I would've just got iced tea instead. The booth we sat in was in the middle of the restaurant and it was not mounted to the floor so it kept sliding around a lot and I'm an average size person and felt like the table was so far away from me while eating. Also, the cushion on the bench felt like it had springs broken inside of it as we both kept sinking into our seat. I'm only mentioning that because the owners are newer and these things were supposedly all addressed before they reopened but apparently they missed one or it's just broken and no one is repairing it. On a side note, my daughter and I went there one other time and were told by the hostess there was a 45min wait so we got on the breakfast wait list and walked over to dollar tree to pass some of the time. We came back 30mins later and started noticing after about 20 more minutes how many people were getting seated that came in after us. I finally got the urge to ask as I felt something was wrong. We learned that the hostess failed to put us on the list and when she told us it was going to be awhile since she would have to re-add us to the list I told her to forget it as I felt we should've been added right to the top for the next in line due to their mistake. We walked out and they didn't even try to retain us a customers. That was back in September and I wasn't sure if I'd even come back, but we did. Funny thing was the day that happened, the owners were there eating with their family in a rather large group just off to the side of the hostess area so I'm sure they overheard the conversation and if they didn't they surely saw us walk out frustrated that we just lost an hour of our time for nothing and they said nothing as well. I know it was the owner because he's a local and he's actively involved in politics in the community and his face is very recognizable. Would've been nice if he had tried to rectify the problem. By the time we waited and drove to another place for breakfast since we don't have much around this area, breakfast had stopped being served. My daughter was bummed. All in all, it's just a mediocre place. Nothing to get excited about and based on some of the pictures I'm seeing on here of the food, I think most people feel the same. read more

The food is perfect! Pancakes are the size of the plate and SO good. Eggs are always done right and coffee is great, which is the first sign of a good Cafe. A friend of mine took me to lunch here today. They ordered an omelette. I ordered a Cobb salad. The grilled chicken on my salad was cooked perfectly and served warm, which I really enjoyed. Most grilled chicken Ive had on salads is usually served cold. The service was good and the food came out quickly. I plan to return for another salad. read more

Our waiter was friendly and good. The food was just ok. I ordered the 2 egg breakfast that came with hash browns and toast. To add any meat was extra - $3.50 for bacon or sausage or 4.50 for ham or Canadian bacon. I opted for the Canadian bacon. What a joke!!! $4.50 for 2 very thin slices that were the size of pepperoni! A little overpriced in my opinion. Then to make matters worse they seated a couple next to us that absolutely reeked of cannabis to the point of making me nauseated. My dad and I stumbled upon this hidden gem a few months ago and we find ourselves going back whenever I visit. It has a diner type feel.... Nothing fancy. We have always had friendly servers! The food is what I want to talk about though. Even though the place itself does not have the feel of some of the other small breakfast places I have been to, the food is definitely on par. My dad got a very nice size salad today. All of the vegetables and fruit were fresh, and it cost $6. If you order sandwich, the fries they give you are huge and crisp and you get quite a few of them. I have had their strawberry pancakes a few times and they never disappoint. Today I decided to try the Mediterranean wrap without the gyro (I have an allergy to beef and pork). Everything in the wrap was very fresh. The wrap was the perfect size, very filling. I asked what the french fries were cooked in if any before pork had been in them that day, and I said if there was any questions, I would just take the side salad. The waitress went back and spoke with the chef, and when my lunch came out, it was with the side salad. Although I was kind of hoping for some french fries, because they are so good, I was very appreciative that she took the time to ask and for whatever reason it would be safer to give me the salad. I always appreciate that! This place is only open for breakfast and brunch and although online it says 2 PM online, the sign on the door said 1:30 pm. We have not been there on the weekend for breakfast so I don't know how crowded it is but whenever we come around noon or so, you can still get breakfast and they have a nice amount of people there, but they are never overcrowded during the weekdays. They were busy and were trying their best. However when our breakfast omelettes were served the cheese was already congealing and the eggs were barely warm. The hash browns were way overcooked. My biggest complaint is that if you drink coffee there is an endless supply. Which is wonderful with coffee prices the way they are. However if you drink tea you will be charged another $3+ for another tea bag. And it was Lipton tea that you can get 100 bags for the price they wanted to charge for one additional tea bag. But yet they will pour coffee all day long at the cost of one cup!!!! Biggest crock I've ever heard. Unfair business practice!! We have had some really good breakfasts at the Village Cafe but today was so disappointing. We were seated in a reasonable amount of time and ordered our breakfast. The breakfast did finally arrive, which was barely warm at best. We had to flag down the waitress to ask for syrup for the pancakes. The warmest thing on the biscuits and gravy was the hot sauce I added. The eggs and potatoes were also barely warm, the bacon was floating in grease. The waitress did ask how the food was and I did say the biscuits and gravy was barely warm, she said she would tell them in the back. The next time we saw the waitress was to ask us if we would like a box and to bring the check. It will be a while before we head back to the Village Cafe. read more

We went mid morning which was perfect in regards to being sat immediately. The kitchen was necessarily quick but that was ok. The chocolate chip pancakes were so good! Bacon and sausage too. The hashbrowns were good, not oily. I did not like the breakfast croissant- too much sausage and the egg was gross. But the biscuits and gravy are the BEST we've had in the area. Amazing service! Party of 5 was taken to a great table, got our drinks SUPER quickly, I ordered the cinnamon roll French toast, bacon, and fries. And it came within like 15 minutes! Now, is this place like heaven? well the food is, but not much ambiance to be had, apparently it used to be a little better before covid hit, but either way, the food and service are amazing, Mary was a great server so overall, amazing experience. My wife and I had breakfast here on November 1st. We woke up a little late but since the clocks had rolled back it was still breakfast hours. My wife went in to put our name on the wait list. She was told 15-20 minutes. We were finally sat after a 50 minute wait. Mind you I understand Covid is going on but to have it seemed like half of your tables no available with a lobby FULL of people waiting to eat seems a little strange. My wife and I eat out a lot and haven't seen this in St Charles County since June. The hostess I believed was overwhelmed with the amount of people waiting to eat. Food was ok, nothing special , service was good. We will probably return as we like to support local however we would not wait again for that long. They get 4 stars for the breakfast tacos and the pancakes but minus one star due to there always being sub-par service. Whether it is takeout or dine in, there is always a very long wait at the table or once you're there to pick up your food. Most of the waitresses we have had are younger and they don't refill drinks, bring napkins, check in etc. We keep coming back because I LOVE the tacos and my partner LOVES the pancakes but if you're hungry before getting there, I suggest to bring a snack because it's going to be a min before you get any food. read more
