We enjoyed the food and service so well we ate here twice while we were in the Chatsworth area. They had wonderful vegetables and the desserts were amazing! My husband got mashed potatoes with gravy and fried okra both days! I loved the squash casserole and green beans. The salmon patties were also very delicious. This is what I call southern comfort food. It's not my Grandma's soul food, which would require some ham hocks or smoked turkey, extra melanin and heavy seasoning but it does the job! Village Cafeteria offer 5-6 daily "meats", ranging from stuffed bell peppers, Swedish meatballs & chicken livers, to meatloaf, chicken & dumplings and country fried steak. Plus soup, over a dozen veggies and homemade desserts! I first discovered Village Cafeteria when I was hiking in Fort Mountain State Park. I couldn't believe how much food you got for such a cheap price! I dined in and it was clean and comfortable. That was back when I could eat delicious fried chicken, scrumptious fried okra, sugary sweet potato soufflé and get away with it. The black eyed peas were delish too! This time, I tried to be more reasonable and reach for the lemon baked chicken but alas, it wasn't meant to be. The lady behind the counter recommended the chicken casserole. It was shredded with sour cream and jazzed up with a crumbled Ritz cracker topping. Exactly what I didn't need! The sample she gave me was melt in your mouth good, and I was in. I started eating it in the car! Best of all, my meat, 3 veggies and 2 cornbread muffins were only $7.94! The carrots & cabbage were definitely boiled (not steamed) and the green beans could have used more seasoning. But the huge portions, free parking and friendly service (except for the cashier, who looked annoyed and charged me 15 cents for water) made up for it. I deducted one star because none of the staff actually wore their masks. They all had them pulled down below their chins so they could talk freely, sigh... All in all, l will return to Village Cafeteria if I'm in the vicinity and I would definitely recommend! read more

This is a place you want to get your plate ordered for pic up I'm not ever impressed with being rushed so if you go here you better know what you want because it's a lunch line like in school except the food looks so good that if you had a moment you could order something you really like but inless you already know what you want it just isn't good I always walk away from that line feeling some type a way so it's just not worth it for me.and I think wow you have new people that come in every day you rush them through and chances are they missed out on some good stuff because they didn't know what it was!' The Village serves daily menu items of typical down home Southern country favorites. It is set up like a cafeteria style where you pick what you want to eat. The selection is great and the food is fresh! Their menu of meats and sides change on a daily, but you are guaranteed to find something you like. You can't go wrong with any of their fried foods: fried chicken, fried chicken livers, fried okra, country fried steak. They will have all your sides from mac and cheese, to sweet potato casserole, to greens. All very delicious. I cant get enough. They even do homemade cakes and I'm in love with the pistachio pudding thing aka ambrosia salad. This is a Chatworth staple and is also my lunch staple any time I'm here on business. If I ever make it out here again, I'm definitely coming back. read more

I'm not a fan of the cafeteria-style presentation of it, but I sure am a fan of the food! In the area for a business trip, the locals kept raving about the Village Cafeteria. "We have to go on Wednesday because that's the day they have chicken casserole." Ok, so it's been planned for a few days already. Looking at the chicken casserole, it didn't look too appetizing to me, so I chose the country fried steak, a good southern default choice, smothered in brown gravy, with a side of mashed potatoes & green beans, all washed down with a huge glass of sweet tea. What a great southern lunch! My coworker kindly offered a bite of his chicken casserole because he believed so much that I should try it. Goodness, I should have listened to him! Delicious! So good, in fact, that I ordered one to go for dinner later that night. And I added on a piece of their chocolate oreo cake: chocolate cake layer, oreo icing layer, chocolate cake layer, chocolate frosting layer. The casserole was still good warmed up hours later. My dessert was large, but a little dry. The icing/frosting layers were really yummy, though, so that kind of made up for the dryness. I'm probably never going to find myself in Chatsworth again, but if I do, I'll definitely need to get more casserole. Unfortunately, it's not served every day, so I'd have to schedule it strategically. read more

The Village is an example of doing 1 thing and doing it well. It is a Cafeteria, but everything is clean and the help if very friendly. The food is completely outstanding. Worth every penny. Small town restaurant with delicious home cooked food. We drove up from Ellijay to dine here and since it was Sunday, it was VERY busy with a line. Didn't take too long to order from friendly ladies serving from steam table. Huge selection of southern cooked meats and vegetables with all the fixings. We had fried chicken and steak with gravy. Everything was delicious and very hearty serving sizes, too. If you are looking for some great home cooking without the fuss of making it yourself, try this place out. Great catfish fillets, to bad you can only get it on Fridays. Baked beans were mediocre, boiled cauliflower had no taste even with cheese poured on top. Broccoli casserole was a little greasy tasting. Wheat bread was good, so was the tea. I should have got the green beans, corn & mashed potatoes there always good. I've been eating here since I was a kid and have always enjoyed something on the menu each day. The service is always excellent. Prices have went up a bit. This will still be regular stop for us since we are local.3 stars today due to food. I would rate it a 4 or 5 any other day. I will post another review next visit. read more
