We came in last weekend on our way to Ringgold. We had looked up restaurants in the area and decided that wings sounded good. When we came in, we were seated quickly and our waitress came right over! We asked her what to get and she was extremely friendly and told us about all the locals favorites. I decided to go with the wings and tenders plate and my fiancé ordered the chicken philly sandwich. Our food was made to order, so the wait time was definitely appropriate for that and we enjoyed being able to watch the Masters while we waited. The food was exactly as we ordered it and the chicken tenders were a hidden gem. Our only regret was that we didn't leave room for the fried Oreos for desert! We will definitely be back here soon. My four star review is only due to another waitress on staff that day. We were so thankful we got the waitress that we did, because the other lady working was extremely unprofessional. A table came in and specifically asked for our waitress, so she sat them down, no problem and took their drink order. The other waitress comes over after asking our waitress if "she was just stealing tables now" and literally says to the table "if I was your waitress you'd have had your drinks already but that's fine. It's fine" and storms off, taking off her rain jacket, and throwing it on the bar WITH CUSTOMERS AT THE BAR. On the drive home from a day of hiking at Cloudland, starving and thirsty we came across Duke's only because they were on our drive. And what luck that turned out to be! First of all, and perhaps most importantly, there was an LSU sticker proudly displayed on the entrance door right in the middle. So, we knew we were in good hands and company even before entering . . . couldn't wait to try to the food assuming it would be as good as their knowledge and appreciation of great college football. The owner, Derrick, was not there at the time, but we found out from our waitress Amanda that he is a fan. Geaux Tigers! Food, service and atmosphere were all great. We had the Philly Cheese Steak, traditional hot wings, grilled shrimp, okra and side salad. Everything was delicious. Amanda provided on-the-spot service throughout our meal, accompanied by a great attitude and smile. Kept our drinks filled and was always checking back with us. We had dinner there tonight and honestly, it's was a miserable experience. Our server started by yelling out across another table what do you want to drink? That's when we knew it was going to be one of this nights. Half our our order didn't come, the half that did was cold. Our drinks stayed empty and when we would stand up to go get them filled, again, she'd scream, I've got you. Ma'am you never had us to begin to get us covered...but I digress. The bottom line is I think they are incredibly short staffed. There are new servers every time we've come in. That may say more than anything about the culture of management. It's always loud, so if you have problems with loud places it's probably not the place to go to. Now, the food is mediocre at best. Almost every time we go they're out of something. We love the food at Dukes, just a couple of things, They really need to get some new bar stools. Most of the help is great. there are a couple of gals that seem to visit with each other too much along the back of the bar. I was surprised to see little kids sitting at the bar. Absolutely horrible experience. Our family came here from lunch directly following our Aunt's funeral. We were immediately shown how annoyed the waitress was with us being a larger party (7 people.) We dealt with the bad attitude hoping our food would be good... It was horrible. I couldn't eat any of it, but still paid for the whole meal. Fried shrimp was slimy beneath the breading with a foul odor. The hamburger steak was just a hockey puck of dried meat with no onions or gravy, and the mash potatoes were like soup. My husband had the fried liver dinner and he said there was so much grease on his plate he could have fried his onion rings his self. Speaking of onion rings they were super skinny. The waitress are wonderful and really go out of their way to be helpful. Gizzards, fried catfish and ship are just some of their items. Their hamburgers are huge and juicy.
