You can find a lot of modern clothing. You just need to time to browse. Clothing,shoes, housewares, electronics, jewelry, purses, books, movies, and crafts supplies, gift wrap, pet supplies; they stock thousands of new items daily. I gave it 4*s because it's a little disorganized. Overall, being a professional thrift/consignment shopper, it's definitely worth the trip. Prices are really reasonable. Just a inside tip. I like to Thrift & I like dig and hunt and find a treasure or 2. I don't mind getting dirty and weird smells don't offend me. If this sounds like YOU, then VDO is for you! Pros - It's huge. There are tons and tons of clothes to pick through. Like literally tons. They are constantly rotating and bringing in new merchandise. It's fairly organized and clean. They have pretty good prices n they constantly run 50% off sales, along with color coded daily sales. Be prepared to stay an hour or two to find what you want. Cons - It's HUGE!!!!! So much clothes it's hard to move the racks to find what you want. The jeans are up high n a shorter person can struggle to find a size. Sometimes they have one register open and you will wait. On 50% off days it's CRRRRAZZZZZY there. Like Mad Max crazy. Be prepared for a crowd and a long wait in the checkout lanes. They really don't have furniture so if that's your thing you're out of luck. Overall I've come to like this store quite a bit. Come shop second hand and save the Earth just a little bit! read more

Soooooooooo, Village Discount is the "stereotypical thrift store." It is not very clean. It can have a musky stinch. The aisles are really close together. The racks are often jam-packed with items falling off of hangers. There are some damaged items for sale. You may very well trip or slip on something strewn across the floor. There is one public restroom at the front of the store. There are no dressing rooms. And, it is really, really crowded on sale days..... BUT.... Village Discount is one of the BEST KEPT SECRETS! So much so, that I almost did not even want to write a positive review (Kicking myself in the butt right now! UGH!)... So, yes, there are some negatives to this thrift store, but Village Discount has some WONDERFUL TREASURES! What can you find at Village Discount???? Ugg, North Face, Under Armour, St. John, Coach, Vera Bradley, Nike... And the list goes on and on.... The key to this store is understanding the sales... Every item has a colored (pink, blue, green, or yellow) tagged (Stapled Colored Tag!!!). Each day, there are at least 3 colors that are Half-Priced. That means you can score an awesome deal on any day of the week! Then, every Sunday is... wait for it... wait for it... one colored tag identified as 3 items for $1!!! Did you hear me? ONE DOLLAR for 3 THINGS!!! Then, every Tuesday is... wait for it... wait for it... 3 colors are Half Priced PLUS Buy-One-Get-One-Free!!! Did you hear me? HALF PRICED PLUS BOGO!!! Then, there are Half-Priced Sale days, which are typically on a Saturday, Sunday, or a Holiday-- EVERYTHING IN THE STORE IS HALF-PRICED! Then, sometimes there are Pre-Holiday Sales, which will include a reduced scale discount on White Tag Items (White Tag items are typically the higher end merchandise items.)... And, on top of that, on the Monday following a Half-Price sale, they have soft cover books at 10 for $1 and hard cover books at 5 for $1.... I know it sounds like a lot of confusion, but this is the best deal going for "true" thrift stores! read more

Second time shopper, 2nd time ripped off. First time was 2 weeks ago. Found two of the same shirt, same condition, different prices. Manager called and says, "Sorry, different employees make prices. We can't match per store policy." Yesterday was my 2nd time. As a dutiful and experienced thrift shopper, I remove the hangers from my items, while in line. a stapled tag pops off. I inform the cashier, how guess what..per store policy they can't sell anything without a price tag until the next business day, did I want to place the item on hold? I say yes, because I want said item. I go back today, only to find whomever retagged, added $2.50 to the price. WOW. Not only do you inconvenience me to come back, but then raise the price?! Roach alert. The last time I will ever shop here. My husband and I both spied a roach nest, the filthy buggers were spilling out of a small hole in the wall by the toys and men's clothes. If you decide to chance it I highly suggest washing everything immediately as this store is filthy. read more

I only get a chance to make a trip here a few times a year when my husband is in the area for work, but it's always well worth the wait! There's always a HUGE selection of clothes, and they are very well organized, so you're not digging through things unnecessarily. Prices are reasonable, and staff is always friendly and helpful. Love this shop. They have something for everyone and often very nice new or gently used clothes. Found my flower girl dresses and bridemaid dress for 20 bucks which were beautiful and barely used.. definately a better variety of choices for a thrift store read more

Used to be one of my favorite thrifts around. Used to go there twice a week and then they started selling jackets for $30-$60 and then all shirts were around $10. Now I'm done going. Not worth your time. Also, they got rid of half off days. read more

Well, it's not too bad... If you have a lot of time on your hands to shop and really hunt, you can find great stuff here. I'd suggest you find out when the store has special deals on certain items, so you can save a lot of money. All of their items have different colored tickets either stapled or stuck on (similar to Goodwill) - pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, and gray(?). Some days, I've heard, there's only certain colored tickets that have a discount on the price written down. Other days, they have discounts on all colors. When it's one of the "All Color Discount" days, the store gets PACKED. I speak from experience... You might even be in there for a few hours at least if you choose to stay and end up buying something. Original prices on most items are decent, but prices on others are close to "not worth it" - probably why it gets packed on the major discount days. Workers are friendly, but the place, especially the clothes, needs to be more organized (or, at least, in a better way). read more

Pretty much a middle of the road thrift shop. The building seems kind of dirty and there's definitely that thrift store smell. If you can get past that, however, you can find some great finds here. They have a better garment section which contains their nicer selections, many of which still have their new store tags still attached. Their prices are generally ok, and they offer periodic half off sales. These days tend to be madness though with screaming babies, the pushiest customers and incredibly long lines. You never know what you'll find here but if you have some time and patience you can get some decent deals. read more

Hate thrift stores...but I love this place! If you like named brand selections you'll love Discount Village. Yes, it is crowded, but guess what? The crowds usually do not know what to look for. I only buy new clothes and shoes...on a typical trip, I will garner $400 dollars worth of clothes for $50. Get here and get here quick! read more

I was looking for summer clothes for our daughter. I was told about the village discount outlet in Chicago Heights IL. I am in love with this place. I love when they have the half price sale and it everything not select items are on sale. The staffs are friendly and they are fast putting things out. This store is the only place I shop for clothes, shoes and did I say they have allot of name brand with tags still on. My friend see the change in the way I dress, they are blown away when I tell them where I shop. read more

Great deals... not really a clean store-but, what do you expect for a thrift shop. Needed ties for my guys new job. Went on a Friday-purchased 3 ties @ $3.98 . bought a dozen of them... Seen that they had an earth day 1/2 off everything. Went back NEXT DAY & got 38 pcs of clothing for $53, what a steal. The best bUy was a suit jacket for $1.98 ranG 97 cents. Well, I cannot seem to find my favorite & cheapest purchase, I think store got wind of great giveaway & kept it to mark up. I would have PAID anything for it since it was a MICHEAL KORS , STILL SICK TO MY STOMACH WHERE IT WENT! Went back hour later to see if the found it, gotta stop up on Monday to look at cameras, so they are on top of their stuff-for sure! read more

This chain used to be great then they started to change. First it was changing the store layout. Prices have raised up crazy. They are charging flat rates for jeans no mater the condition. Jeans are 4.00, 6.00, 8.00 or they write in more. I have found jeans beaten up with period stains & broken zippers priced at 8.00. Clerks dont pay attention when sorting items they just put on prices & move on. Most of these clerks dont speak english so you cant ask questions unless you can translate. Carts cant go outside so if you have alot you need to make several trips. One way in one way out store is laid out a fire hazzard. Items are given to them for free so dont be greedy go back the way you were. Make thrift fun again. read more

It's my fault for driving 48 minutes out of the way before reading reviews on this village discount. The negative reviews including the one about the roaches are true. I drove here from Chicago, in the hopes that I'd find something great. With thrifting it's always a gamble. This time around, I lost. The store is dirty and unorganized, and there's roaches crawling around near the men's and shoes section. I immediately shook my head and headed back towards Chicago :( read more

I like this store. I can find something every time I go into the store. The prices and selections are great! I have bought items that were brand new with the tags still on them at a reasonable price. The clothing is mostly color-coded and for the men, I love the way they have the size on the pants so that you don't have to look inside the pants to see what size you are getting. read more

Huge, bare-bones thrift store. Has a funky, musty smell, the one bathroom (yes, there is a bathroom there) often has a bit of a sewage smell--assume they have some plumbing problems. However, the prices are very cheap, even without the half price deals, and you can find great items. I have purchased designer clothes and handbags for around $5 and t-shirts and kids clothes are often $1-2. I do wash everything I bring home from there, just to avoid any possible problems, but I do that with things from any second-hand store. My only peeve with them is their policy of not selling anything without a price tag. Invariably, every time we go one item has lost its tag. Even if I offer to pay the highest possible price for it, they still make you come back to get it the next day after it has been re-tagged. Recently my daughter really wanted a t-shirt that was missing its tag. I offered to pay $6, the highest price for a t in the store. No deal. I drove back the next day, an hour's round trip, and got the re-tagged shirt for $2. Would have been much happier to pay more and not have had to make the trip. read more
