Awful food, the salads are overpriced and horrible. We have tried the restaurant three times but have been disappointed every visit.

Terrible experience tonight. The clam chowder was probably one of the worst I have tasted and after 2 spoonful's I disposed of it. I also ordered 3 triple club sandwiches for the family and they were terrible. The bread was barely toasted and they decided to put the mayo on the side instead of on the sandwiches like they are supposed to. They used to have great club sandwiches but not any longer. I decided to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a much needed glass of wine with my friend. The waitress Tammy at the bar was never around. It took us 20 minutes to get a glass of water. I usually order the salad bar and I only go up once, I also pay extra for a piece of Salmon to add to my salad. I cannot eat a lot at one time so I figured I would be able to take my salmon home, since that was not part of the salad bar. Tammy stated NO I was not aloud to take it to go. I called Village Grill before we arrived to find out their specials and I was told a large pizza is half off on Monday's. I ordered my pizza to go and I was then told it was dine in only for 50% off, Ok no problem, just bring us a few plates and we'll eat a piece here, NOPE, I had to pay full price. Why didn't she mention this to me upon ordering? I was not only given incorrect information beforehand when I called but the barmaid must be miserable because she should not be around people. My friend just said at that point, just give me the bill. The waitress says, and I quote" I'm sure you'll take that out on the waitress" meaning, no tip and then she said Merry Christmas in a very rude tone. If I would talk to anyone like that, I would be unemployed. I also had a sandwich the previous week and it had a HAIR in it. I did not complain, I just paid and left. I will not be dining here anymore unless they hire more competent friendly staff and maybe have the cooks wear hairnets. read more

How can the kitchen be clean when the bathrooms are so disgusting? The soap dispenser is empty, toilets and floor are filthy, paper towel holder is broken. The only glimmer in this place is Christina. Get a clue Village Grill. read more

Go here occasionally. Pricey bar food. The brunch is decent! An okay place to go for a casual meal, but I wouldn't wait in line.

Used to go here every Sunday. Don't think the hostess or manager cared that we were back every week for years to eat there and I can't imagine that they didn't recognize us. With all that we kept going back because the food was solid for what it was. Last time I went there I felt the food was down right horrible. After waiting 20 minutes to get seated in the empty restaurant the waitress told us she basically didnt have time to take our order. Needless to say we walked out and will never be going back. The Village Grille is great kid friendly resturant & sports bar. There are TVs everywhere, 10 in the bar alone plus the big screen. They have a great homemade soup selection everyday, awesome chicken noodle, chicken lemon rice, homemade chili and baked French onion soup are all great. Variety on the menu from Salads, sandwiches, Mexican dishes, the nachos are huge!! Excellent pizzas, sandwiches like the famous Chicken Pita Rancher, great Italian dishes and excellent Lake perch. Service is quick and friendly. And the Draft Beer selection is great, with 27 drafts to choose from. I highly recommend the Village Grille. read more

I have tried this place twice. The first time my friends and I sat at a high top in the bar for 10-15 minutes without being acknowledged, so we left. About a year later we decided to give it one more try, and here's what we experienced. Service still slow even though bar was not very busy. We got our food- cheeseburgers and fries which were ok, no seasonings used in cooking the burgers. Halfway through our meal, the manager ( I assume because he was not making drinks or anything) starts hanging around behind the bar with his fingers in his mouth most of the time, biting his fingernails and flicking the pieces I'm not sure where (either on the floor back there or maybe into a garbage can). SO DISGUSTING! To top it off, when we got our check, the barmaid added an extra drink to our tab. She corrected it when we pointed it out, but how does that happen, and what if we weren't paying attention to it? Not going back ever-even for just drinks. read more

The dank smell of dirty mops and dishwater by the back door should have been our first clue to leave. Instead we glanced around saw our friends and noticed it wasn't too busy and figured we could grab a QUICK bite to eat. NOPE Instead we received terrible service, mediocre food and unprofessional management. They were so disorganized and inefficient that we ended up giving our order to THREE different employees and waiting FORTY FIVE minutes for a reuben sandwich and Michigan salad. No one apologized and everyone seemed very nonchalant to our frustration. I tried to speak with the manager once before the food was brought out and once after. BOTH TIMES I found her STANDING BY THE BAR WITH HER BACK TURNED to the restaurant and chatting with other employees. During one of these instances, I overheard her COMPLAINING ABOUT CUSTOMERS FROM A DIFFERENT TABLE. I was getting increasingly frustrated and asked to speak with the owner. This is when the owner's son stepped in and introduced himself. It is also when the manager finally apologized and said she was aware of the snafus with our order and was planning to offer some sort of compensation but DIDN'T HAVE THE CHANCE. This was simply not true or worth the argument. Instead we declined any bill adjustment explaining we would happily pay double just to leave and never have to return. read more

The Village Grille must have improved since many of these reviews were posted back in 2010/11. Stopped in for the first time this week - it was busy. We were seated promptly, waited on promptly, and the drinks we ordered (draft beer) were delivered to our table in just a few minutes. We ordered burgers and they arrived cooked to order. Our waiter remained very attentive and friendly throughout our stay. The other wait staff also appeared busy, cheerful, and attentive to patrons. I'm giving it three stars - it's average diner food, but good quality. Think of this place as sort of an upscale family restuarant or diner. The restuarant appeared clean to me (didn't peak in the bathroom). If you're in Grosse Pointe and you want something simple - give this place a try and decide for yourself. We were a little reluctant after reading all the reviews about the service but I have to say Don and Justin, our servers and bartenders, were awesome. They were very professional and attentive. We had reserved the banquet room for 50 people for a rehearsal dinner. The pizza was brought out continuously until we no longer needed any more. Each time it was hot and delicious. Went here today and the service was terrible. Mary Beth was our waitress and she didn't give a Crap about us being there. Even the hostess that seated us, everytime I go in there with friends she greets us not smiling at all and then the waitress comes over, not happy at all. Then she disappeared in the middle of us talking trying to give our order, she came back to confirm our order. Then after we ate. The cheesesticks were disgusting. My water needed a refill, she disappeared again for almost 30 mins. I was like...really? Lastly my friend had to ask another waitress to bring us an extra ranch and bag so we could leave, the waitress said she would get it passed our table again and said someone else would bring it...wtf was wrong with you brining it?! Just no. Terrible unenthusiastic customer service. Go down the street to City Kitchen, not as expensive as it looks and better Food. I spent 45 dollars on crappy service and OK food. My recent experience with the Village Grille mimics many of my previous experiences - lack of attention to customers service or listening at all when it comes to ordering. I live in the area and had had a long day and phoned to ask if they had a "chopped salad" on the menu. I was looking for a salad that would be easy to eat. "Yes, we do" So I said I'd like to pick up & was only asked what dressing I would like. OK. I pick it up and my bill was nearly $13. The girl who took my payment said that it is very big. When I got it home - not a chopped salad - a huge salad meal with a sliced chicken breast and an entire hard-boiled egg. Not at all what I had in mind. I venture to say that if she missed the part about "chopped salad", I may have had a few more choices in the type of salad I really wanted. Huge disappointment! read more

When I meet my family up there we sit in the bar section to eat and that works out just fine. When it is just Me and my Husband we choose the dinning side. That was the worst mistake in our lives. Unsupervised children running and bumping in to wait staff. Screeming and yelling and the parents just sit there drinking and not caring in the least. This has happened on more than one ocation and we will not sit on the dinning sid ever. This restrant has the responsibilty to keep these children from running around and screeming, by letting there non attentive parents know that they are there responsibility and such actions are not permitted. read more

Horrible. The service is the worst. Have been many times in past few years because our kids like it. Overpriced for the quality of the food. Most recently visited with 7 year old begging to go, ordered kids sliders, and gyro at a very us busy time and it took over 20 minutes to get our mediocre food. Watched 2 different chefs come out of kitchen to get sodas and hang out at drink station while waiting for our food. Had to literally wave down our waitress who was doing nothing just to get our check after being done for 10 minutes. I have been a hostess and a waitress and understand when things are busy, etc. definitely not the case here. Every time is at best mediocre. Spend your time and money elsewhwhere. Perhaps at Bogartz on Mack, where the food is good and they at least try. Or anywhere else. read more

I went there the other night...I had been there before, but I couldn't remember why I didn't like the place. After the food came to the table, I realized why... they just don't like to serve vegetables there. I ordered this chicken pita thing, and all it was was a doubled-up pita with chicken, cheese and bacon pieces. Not a bit of lettuce or onions or tomato or anything. My sister ordered a beef pita sandwich... just roast beef on a pita. Looking around, I couldn't see any green anywhere in the room. The pizza looked good at the next table, but they had some sort of fried appetizer they were passing around, first, and nothing green there, either. Look, I'm not Mr. Organic, but I'm 55 years old and I sort of expect some green with any meal at a restaurant. And, no ice cream. NO ICE CREAM! It is the 21st Century. Go out and get a freezer. Folks, go the extra block over and hit the Sidestreet Diner instead. It isn't as noisy, and they do serve lettuce. read more

The food is okay, honestly i have had better food at Burger King. The thing that really made me write this review was the service. Time after time i go there and every single time i feel like im pestering the waitress. One time i was there with a group large enough to where they include the tip into the bill. We left enough money for the bill with the included tip although the waitress was acting like she didn't want to be there the whole time and did not deserve a penny. After we left the waitress ran outside with one of the dishwashers who was acting as a sort of tough mob guy i guess, claiming that not enough money had been left. We went back inside and she counted it in front of all of us, only to realize that she can't add (i think children learn to add money in elementary school. After she discovered her brain power, no apology was offered and we simply left. When will place hire some people that actually want to work and make money? read more

Ok are u all on crack!! I grew up in New York and the one thing I can say for sure is the New York Steak is delicious. I only ate half because I am trying to diet but as soon as I got home I had to have the rest and every bite was as delicious as the first. The atmosphere is family. I just wish it was bigger because it always seems full when I go and I have to wait for a table. Sure some servers are not so good but the one I had which is I think Brad did an excellent job. He kept my ice tea full and removed plates when done because the one thing I hate most is when your plate sits there after eating for a while. I like to have my coffee after dinner with a clean table. I love that they have a mini arcade so the kids can enjoy some time on their own. So if you want a family atmosphere and watch a good game on the telly I suggest you go there and ask for Brad I am almost positive that's the one. In fact I am taking my family this weekend!!! Oh the white fish is excellent too and not to mention the bread fresh out of the oven okay I think I am hungry now I just may go tonight! LOL read more

I've been to the Village Grille quite a few times and have NEVER had a bad meal. I try to order something different each time and I'm never disappointed. The service is usually very good even when they are busy so I'm not sure where these negative reviews come from. I usually go after work, so 6:30ish and on Friday or Saturday and I find the staff to be VERY friendly and accomodating. I also like the bar area, so I can't speak about the other restaurant room. The meat lovers calzone is huge & loaded with a ridiculous amount of meat. 2 people can easily share it. I love a Bacon Bleu Cheese burger and spent about a year on my own taste test, and found VG's to be the best. I also love their fries! I love their calamari, fried green beans, beef tendertips (mmmm). I love, love, love the chicken pita rancher and the salmon is delicious! I find the prices very reasonable and I've just made myself hungry with this review, so I'm heading over there now!! read more
