Popular place amongst the GP crowd however it lacks atmosphere. The food is good and reliable but nothing special. I typically sit in the bar area however on this visit we sat in the dining area. Wowzers is all I can say about Village Grill! This was my first time here. I went with a friend. I was starving and my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I ordered the veggie nachos ($10) and the veggie calzone ($9). The waitress warned me the nachos were huge and big enough for three people. She also shared the calzone was pretty big as well. I did not take heed to the warning and ordered. My friend agreed to share the nachos with me. When the nachos arrived, I knew I was in trouble. They looked so delicious. I started eating them and they surely curved my appetite. When the calzone arrived, I tried my hardest to put a dent in it, but couldn't. The calzone was made fresh from pizza dough and the ingredients you can tell was delicious. It would be two days before I completely finished that calzone. Both were totally worth it! read more

I think we're done. This place is close to our house, no-frills so we don't have high expectations. Pizza is good, easy place to drop in for a quick bite and a drink. However the last 3 times we've gotten carryout, there's been an issue with the order. We've ordered an item vegetarian and received it with meat. Always charged full menu price for it even though we order without meat. Or my personal favorite, ordered a salad and upon removing it from the bag, found a fly crawling around in it. This place is my husband and I's "go to" place. The food is solid and the drinks are just right. We've never left the Village Grille disappointed, especially considering we've been regulars for 3 years. I frequently order the taco salad. The Village Grille serves their taco salad in one of those deep fried tortilla bowls. The bowl is flaky and fresh. Plus, their margaritas are off the hook. read more

This was an ok dining experience nothing great. The food was good/average. My advice is to stay away from the spicy Calamari strips, the presentation was poor, they were soggy and the flavors didn't meld well together. Everyone was very nice, the manager asked how things were and I mentioned our concerns with the calamari she gave me the impressions our bill was going to be adjusted but it wasn't. I never intended for Village Grill to be my first formal Yelp review, but now I feel compelled to balance what's already been written. Village Grill is one of those places that offers everything, and does nothing well. The quality and creativity level brings to mind places like Old Country Buffet-- and Village Grill does in fact offer buffet from time to time. It's not that the food is inedible, but rather a question of why bother. I'm happy that the place exists. It does fill an important role in Grosse Pointe's Village shopping district. Family groups with picky children who hate everything can usually find a satisfactory menu item here. It's a safe place to bring great grandma-- familiar food, friendly staff, comfortable seating and nice-enough surroundings. Groups of local middle-schoolers with only a few dollars between them can come in and share a couple orders of fries. For those purposes it's all good. Compared to places like National Coney Island, prices are a bit on the high side and ambience is better than usual. Village Grille somewhat works as a solution to that no-time-to-shop, too-tired-to-cook, what-am-I-going-to-feed-these-people dilemma. And it's a place to sit, out of the cold-- or heat, as the case may be. But five-star Destination Dining, it's not. Almost always I'll grab something microwaveable from Trader Joe's or wait for a table at TN Thai Bistro (both very nearby-- within a block) rather than eat at Village Grill. read more

This is one of those times where you wish you could post a zero. We ordered two steak fajitas and one chicken nuggets with french fries to go. When we got home, we were missing The french fries and half a steak fajita order. In addition, our total was $45.86. What is the point of carry out if when you get home you are missing half your order? In addition, the steak was tough and inedible and the coleslaw side order came in a container the size of a tablespoon. When I opened my Styrofoam container and looked at what they consider food at the Village Grille, I wanted to puke. It was absolutely the worst carry out/food experience for $45.86. About an hour after we got home, someone called from Village Grille and left a message saying they realized we were missing half our order. If that is the case, why not give us a credit toward the ridiculous money we spent on this awful meal? Never never again will we ever go to Village Grill. read more

Came in during the week for quick lunch. I ordered a simple plate, white fish encrusted with mozzarella on it. Waiter comes back with 1.Very watery coke 2.White fish with no flavor, the kitchen forgot to season the fish and they never seared it with the mozzarella. 3. They potatoes on the plate tasted old and soggy, also no flavor After a few bites, i tell the waiter the problem with the fish, he says "ok" proceeds to grab the plate so that the kitchen can inspect the plate. He comes back with the same fish i had a few bites of which looked like it had been grabbed from the plate and simply tossed back onto the grill to sear with some flavor including the cheese. He comes back and says 'the kitchen apologizes". Didn't even offer to knock off the pop from the receipt. I think its safe to say that i will NEVER spend a dollar here again. read more

Ive had waiters ignore us for the whole meal, not refill drinks, not tell us when plates are hot and we get burnt. Just lazy and lack of. And the food, i could make most of it at home. Pub trivia was the only reason me and my friends stopped up here on a weeknight. We all ordered appetizers and drinks. Ambiance: Ok. It was a warm, sophisticated pub/restaurant vibe.Bathrooms were clean and cozy. Tables and chairs were nice. I liked the space. Plenty of TVs, so watching the Pistons game and the MNF game was a bonus. Large bar area and a separate dinning room that looked big as well. Service: Needs improvement. Our waitress was on the young side. She was not very efficient at handling a larger group (there were 8 of us). She was attentive, but just needed to get into the serving "groove" to be a great server worthy of a 20-25% tip. Nice enough person, though. Food: Really bad. None of us were blown away with what we had. My own app, the Artichoke & Spinach Dip was the worst I have had. I could tell it was microwaved, because it came out of the kitchen 4 minutes after the waitress left our table, and there was no brown bubbly top. It was barley warm throughout, served with stale, thin white tortilla chips. They also threw on about 6 bready-pita-wedge-type things that were so greasy, I could actually squeeze grease from them. The bottom of the dip itself was very oily. Bummer. It is so easy to execute a decent Spinach & Artichoke Dip! Another of my group ordered a burger that had a really, really shiny bun. The cheese sticks he ordered were not as hot as they should have been, the cheese was not runny. Also, just gave ranch not marinara as well. The nachos were also ordered, and had more of the same stale tortilla chips, this time cemented together with shredded cheese, and greasy taco beef. It was sick. I would advise to skip the food here. The Village Grille may be a good place to grab beers and watch sports, but please spend your money on better food elsewhere. read more

While the location seems ideal, the food/service we received recently was decidedly mediocre. Between the general lack of interest/customer service from the server, lack of utensils, the BLT served without mayo (not a big deal, but c'mon), party sized plate of nachos served to an 11 year old, and lack of overall service in a restaurant that was fairly empty - we wish we would have eaten at home, particularly since we had family in from out of town. That said, the restaurant was kind enough to take one of the meals off the bill. If you're looking for a beer and a game, it's a decent spot. read more

Pretty wide range of menu items from pizza and sandwiches to dinners. I had the Village Deli sandwich and fries. It was good food but the sandwich wasn't served with any kind of condiment so I asked for mayo after eating half of it and realizing it was kind of dry, missing something. Fries were hard to describe, kind of 'battered' I guess you could say - sort of like Rally's/Cheker's fries without the seasoning. A little greasy but cooked just right. Friend had the appetizer combo with various deep-fried goodies - 2 large potato skins, mushrooms, cheese sticks and wings. I sampled a bit of hers and it tasted like typical bar deep-fried stuff although the skins looked good. Service was OK, although it seemed to take a while to get our food. However, not the kind of wait where you're about to start considering whether or not the flatware and napkins are edible (we've all been there, admit it!). Minor grumble: They also serve Leonard's Syrups brands of soda products which are kinda of icky. Just in my past experience working at a banquet facility, I know Leonard's are a cheaper alternative to Coke/Pepsi BUT I also never liked them much. I am a Diet Coke junkie and will drink Diet Pepsi if I HAVE to....the diet Leonard's was just gross to me. If I am going to pay $2 for a stupid pop like most restaurants charge, I'd like it to be a good brand. Seemingly good/average neighborhood family restaurant though, seemed a little over-priced but not excessively so - something to please everyone and I wonder what their pizzas are like. The food here is pretty terrible. Think Applebee's on a local level. I would never order anything other than sandwich or one of their common appetizers. If you were bold enough to order an entree ... you have been warned. The only reason this place survives is the great bar area. A big, S-shaped bar with plenty of seating and lots of other high top tables all surrounded by TVs. Lots of beer on tap and everything is priced right. The bathroom is possibly the worst in GP. The pisser is right next to the sink so I hope you're not too shy when taking a whiz when someone is -hopefully- washing their hands. It also generally stinks in there and the trash is always overflowing. Again, it's all about the bar. They do have a nice patio where you can watch the hipster doofuses coming out of Starbucks & Moose Preserve; a bonus, I guess. read more

My family and I come to Village Grill regularly and always have good service and good food. Today, we had a horrible experience. First, our waitress, Marjorie, failed to clear the dirty dishes from our table in a timely manner. Second, the lady who brought our tray of meals, rolled her eyes at us, and huffed really loud. We were all quite offended, asked for a manager and the manager never came. Next, both of my sisters ordered stir fry. The rice was hard. Marjorie did ask them if they wanted new or something else, but they declined. The chef came out and apologized and said the meals would be taken off their bills. When we got our bills my sisters were charged the full $16.99 for the salad bar. When asked if they could get a sandwich in substitute for then meal since they had been charged full price for the salad bar, the owner said no. Once again Marjorie was asked to have the owner come to the table. The owner never came. Over all, our server this visit was rude, unprofessional, and didn't know server etiquette when leaning over people's food. read more

We had the sad occasion of a funeral to plan and talked to Dan at The Village Grill to help us plan the luncheon following the service. He was very accommodating and always available to answer all of our questions, letting us visit and see the room etc. There was a screen available for our video and a tv monitor available for our overflow of guests in the main room next to the banquet room. The service was top notch, the food was wonderful and everything went off without a hitch. They knew what we needed and they took good care of us when we were under stress from our loss. They even boxed up the leftovers for us which was unexpected. I recommend using this restaurant for your banquet needs and also for a fun night out on the bar side of this establishment. I have written a review previously on village grille and when I do that it's NOT a good sign. I keep trying village grille time and time again but the food and service is always terrible! Starting with owners that don't care about anything and I must say they are very rude. They don't bother to make any changes with their failing restaurant and its employees. I can't imagine how the restaurant stays afloat with everyone knowing it is one of the worst restaurants in town and if it hasn't changed in so long I don't see people staying optimistic for much longer. In conclusion, from staff acting horrible and plain rude to customers and taking their anger out on them to undercooked food giving children food poisoning to owners not caring about your experience I do NOT recommend this place to anyone who has taste buds. read more
