Awful. Hadn't been here in over 10 years but a friend assured me its good. The whole restaurant smells like stale beer, really unpleasant to smell while eating. The food was mediocre, extremely greasy. I felt sick for hours after eating here, I'm never going back. The bathroom was HORRIBLE. There was piss on the floor and wall, and there was no soap. 1/2 off pizza with two beverages is a great deal on Monday nights. The Chicken Rancher salad is still a favorite, although the serving size is a bit too much for me. I also like the Chicken Rancher pita which is the salad without the lettuce. Service is sometimes a little slow. read more

If you're vegan you might have a hard time finding something to eat here BUT I'm here to help. They have a veggie burger on their menu but the patty unfortunately contains cheese. Of course you could just order a salad but why do that when you can have their vegetable calzone? Just order it with no cheese and trust me on this it's HUGE. They also have great sweet potato fries! This week my work decided to order take out from here. I direct the meetings and do the orders for the food so I called the day before at 3pm to have my order ready by 11:15am the following morning. When I got there at 11:10am the front door was still locked so I had to call to get in. When I finally got a hold of someone they let me in and told me they had never got the order. I then waited 20 minutes for the food to be made and then received no sympathy for the order they did not put in. No apology from a manager, discount, anything.. I heard a worker saying they did receive the order the day before so at that point I felt they should have done something about it. The food was ok. Definitely thrown together. I honestly don't understand how this place stays open. Incredibly long wait times for food, soggy cold fries, chicken rancher pita was more ranch than anything and gave me a hell of a stomach ache later in the night. A friend ordered a hani style wrap, they brought out a caeser salad and when she sent it back, they obviously just put the lettuce and chicken in a pita, when she hadn't even ordered a caeser wrap. It took an hour for her to get a simple wrap. Also the chicken lemon rice soup is disgusting, was served cold, and obviously isn't homemade. I wonder if anything here is? read more

Village Grille has NEVER disappointed me. It is a great casual place for classic American food/bar food. Sandwiches, salads, burgers, pizza, wings, pasta, fish, etc. They really have everything you're looking for. I have tried countless items on the menu, and can't even pin-point one thing I have not liked! If you want to play it safe, the Chicken Pita Rancher or Chicken Rancher Salad is the best way to go, provided you like ranch. But honestly, everything is delicious in my mind. I can truly say that Village Grille has the BEST ranch I have ever had. It is so thin, delicious, and perfect. This is a huge compliment, seeing as I consider myself a ranch connoisseur, and am very picky about my ranch. I tell everyone I know about VG's ranch. My only complaint is that I think they should bring back the Portobello Pita Sandwich they used to have on the menu back in the day. (early 2000s, before renovation) read more

I placed a carry out order today consisting of two items, a sandwich and soup. They messed up on both. I ordered my club sandwich on wheat toasted, I got white bread not toasted. This place is close to my work and also home, so I've been here numerous times over the years, both pre- and post-renovation. The food is mostly American cuisine with a little "Mexican" and "Italian" thrown in the mix. I've never eaten anything terrible here, but it's usually nothing super memorable. The prices are pretty good, as is the selection, so generally it's not hard to find something to eat. They have a full bar that is now separated from the main dining area, and there is plenty of seating on the bar side, either at tables or at the bar. I generally don't order cocktails there, usually just beer, but they have a fairly good selection of beers on tap, I believe somewhere around 20 beers on tap at any given time. It can get busy on the bar side on the weekends, but not terribly so. Bar has several TVs with the game on, which is why it can get busy during any big games. The restaurant looks nice after the work they did on it and the expansion into the neighboring space. They now have a little game room with some arcade games in the back (perfect for bribing the kids to not go nuts while waiting for food to come) and a separate room that can be reserved for large groups of people. During Spring/Summer they have outdoor seating as well. Village Grille got 3 stars from me for being a dependable choice for any meal (they now serve breakfast), but nothing super special. read more

Just planned my 5 year reunion at Village Grille and could not be happier with the outcome! Diane was so amazing throughout the whole planning process and made the night a huge success. She was so accommodating and made the night extremely special for everyone! Such a fantastic manager who is beyond kind & professional!! Food was okay, but I much prefer my local favorites Blue Pointe and Harvard Grille where you can your dollars worth with a great atmosphere and delicious food. I go to Village Grille with friends from time to time and always leave wondering why I came. The waitstaff couldn't careless and are just waiting for you to get out and leave a sizable tip. This is especially true for teenagers. The only reason to come here is for drinks at the bar. read more

I've been coming to this place since 2007. Once they've expanded, I was really excited for them. For the past five years, my ONLY order would be the tuna melt with the fruit salad. Started off great, but lately, my sandwiches have been soggy, as well as the fruit. I met one of the cooks one day (Danny), and explained to him how long I've been coming there ordering pretty much the same thing every time. Well, Danny was so nice and caring that he told me to ask for him WHENEVER I place an order, rather I'm dining in or calling in my order. Pretty good, we've been here twice now for a quick dinner close to the house. Tonight we both ordered stuffed flounder from the special menu. Crab stuffing was Great, asparagus was way overcooked but that's ok no real complaints. Service has always been adequate. Salad bar is a great addition. We'll be back. read more

We thought we would give the Village Grille another try since we were hungry and did not feel like driving too far. Absolutely nothing has changed about this place. We were seated in a reasonable amount of time and then completely ignored for nearly a half hour, and the place was about 2/3 empty. It was not busy at all. When we finally were able to place our drink order, with the waitress with a very poor attitude and sour disposition, it took another 10 minutes to receive the drinks. We decided to order our food when we received our drinks because who knows when we would see this "waitress" again. We each ordered burgers and when they were brought out, 35 minutes later, they were cold and had absolutely no taste at all. After we finished eating our bland food we waited almost 20 minutes for our bill to arrive. I should also mention that at no point while we were eating did the waitress come by to ask if we needed a drink refill or to ask how the food was. It is almost as if she knew how crappy it was and didn't want to be told about it. Obviously the owner of this "restaurant" does not care and it is reflected in the attitude of his / her employees. With food that tastes like it came from the reject bin at Gordon Food Service and such rude employees this place does not deserve to be in Grosse Pointe. Seriously, you can get better food and service at the ballpark. Grosse Pointe deserves better than the Village Grille. read more

WORST. SERVICE. EVER. Bartenders can't be bothered to wait on you. When they do, they stand around and talk smack about the customers. They do have many tvs, but every time I've been in here, there is Fox News on tv and no sports, even when there's a baseball or football game being played. They do not have the football package, so you only get the nationally televised games. When you do want to watch sports, you better know what channel it's on, because they don't, and won't look. The only exception is Tammy, who works days, and is very pleasant and attentive. Walk down a few doors to City Kitchen. Worst experience ever! burger they served me the bun was smashed and with finger indentations on it and flies were on it. complained about it and was told that since I didn't tell the manager I was out of luck. Who thought a place in the village could be so disgusting? Their onion rings were the most disgusting onion rings that I've ever had. Gigantic, greasy, and they tasted repulsive. They're hamburger was totally disgusting too, barely cooked properly and made with cheap ingredients. It's basically Big Boy but with even more terrible food, if you can imagine. I've gone to Village Grille religiously for the past 12 years. Have to say that I'm extremely upset after my most recent carry out order. My chicken pita rancher's were supposed to have the ranch on the side. Instead I received no ranch, no fries, the pitas were entirely uncooked and cold, and the chicken, the cheese, and bacon were also cold...absolutely terrible. My son and daughter also used to be huge fans of the pizza before this order, but now due to the undercooked dough of this order I think you may have lost four customers. For me the straw that has broken the proverbial camels back was the lack of concern from the staff when I called the restaurant after getting home. I will not be going back. read more
