Hungry and weary travelers stopped in for a real meal. Luckily, it was free pie Wednesday, so we enjoyed complimentary slices of pie. We were seated right away, and our drinks arrived so quickly that we needed refills almost immediately. The chicken fried steak was cooked to perfection, making it feel like my own grandmother had prepared it for me. The restaurant was clean, and the bathroom was spotless. This review is going to be short and sweet because I didn't eat at this location. I only stopped to get a pie I ordered. First impression is that this is a very fancy village inn. When I came in I was greeted by an older woman who was helping out a couple who were trying to decide what slice of pie to get free with their meal. The lady was nice enough but didn't seem to understand that the couple was not in the same party as me and insisted to give them three pieces of pie instead of the two that they were entitled to. The couple, to their credit, did do everything possible to let her know, but in the end just gave up. When it was my turn I went up and said that I had a pie order to pick up. She seemed very confused and didn't understand that it was a baked pie I had ordered and not food from their menu. I had to explain it to her three times and then the manager ended up coming up and saying it was right behind the register. I think that lady does an adequate job of getting things done but I could imagine if they were busy she might slow them down. The pie itself was very good but I expect that from a chain. It had a nice sugared crust and was kept in a box that was tall enough that the top didn't get crushed. I would order it again. read more

Our coffee group met here. It was fine. We about froze when we arrived & I think the waitress had it turned up. I don't drink coffee but wasn't offered anything else--yes, I could have ordered when I ordered food... My grand was brought an apple juice she didn't ask for. She wanted strawberry lemonade so it was swapped out. I had the 4 choices breakfast: bacon (tasty), eggs (good), rye toast (fine) , strawberry crepe (not good-salty & thick). What a bummer on the crepe--the last time I had them here they were tasty!! Grand had pancakes & an egg. She liked them. The service was terrible, I decided to order a pick up. And as soon as I arrived the staff gave attitude because "they were busy as we could see". Instead of asking why I was there. They decided to be rude and disrespectful. So to the staff at this shithole, be better or next time you won't be having a job. We decided to try village inn after being fully vaccinated. Arrived and were seated promptly waitress arrived and took our order in good time. I ordered the all you can eat fish friday,wife ordered pot roast dinner. To my dismay they have changed the fish filets to something that didn't look at all like fish,more like what u would get at the store in freezer section.Wife's pot roast was great and she enjoyed it. Of course we had to have a piece of pie,is it just me,or are the pie slices getting smaller? The pie slices were nothing great taste wise,nothing to write home about. Village Inn is just another chain diner such as Dennys or Perkins. It is hard to differentiate between these restaurants. This location has friendly staff and good food. I've eaten at this location multiple times and there were no issue. I mainly get breakfast items when I eat at diners because I loved eating breakfast when its not breakfast time. Gross. Now I know why VI has come out with coupons, their food is not worth full price. Service is great, but the quality of food has gone way down hill while the prices have gone up. Seating was slow. We were a party of five, so we had to wait for ONE table to be cleared. While the Assistant manager stood at the register doing nothing we waited while several other parties were seated. 15 minutes later the server decided to clear the appropriate table. Finally. The first thing my 2 and 4 year old boys started doing was pulling trash out of the "crumb catchers" (the crevice where the back of your seat meets the bottom). First it was a straw. Gross. Then sugar packets, a toothpick..... Holy cow it was like a clown car! When I looked down, it was filled with garbage from previous customers. No way was this done in a day. This was weeks worth of business. Took my son to the restroom, again gross. Counter tops need caulking, grime on the tiles, loose toilet paper, urine on the seats. Gross water spotted mirrors. When we came out of the restroom you can see into the kitchen/waitstaff area. HOLY COW! Please for the love of money tell me THAT is not where MY FOOD is coming from! There is such a thing as 'clean as you go'. CUSTOMERS CAN SEE YOUR KITCHEN! At least have a clean floor. No one really notices anything else while passing by. Some of you may think that a 4-star for this restaurant is a bit high. My thought on this restaurant is that it is the midwestern version of a diner. You have certain expectations and probably not very high in regards to Quality or options. But I will say that it is a clean restaurant, our service was good, the staff in general seem to work as a team as it was a busy time on a Sunday morning and those are good things for me and meet my expectations. It's a great place to come and get breakfast or lunch or dinner I think all day. And you definitely can't leave there without trying one of their slices of delicious pies. So why not 5 stars? We both had meatloaf & Broccoli soup . The soup was hot. When she brought the meatloaf it was cold the mashed potatoes were cold. The biscuit was lukewarm. We waited for food for 1/2 hr and had to leave soon. So we just ate it. We got to cash register. She said how was your food my wife said cold. THAT will be $25.50. We paid and left. Good service. Bathroom not clean, feminine hygiene receptacle hanging from the wall haphazardly, broken tiles on the floor (one of which it looked like there were things stuffed into the crack). Asked for crispy hash browns, not done. Husband's eggs undercooked, which made him slightly ill. I took my toddler to time out in the area between the outside and inside doors and was grossed out by how unclean that area was, too. Stuff splattered (yes, splattered) all over the walls--a LOT--and cobwebs in the corners at about eye-height. And you couldn't miss it! It's not like anyone could miss it, including employees and cleaning crews, if there are any. We topped off our meal with our two toddlers with someone yelling "F*CK, ME!" from the kitchen. I informed my server and whoever else was at the register. They reacted with some dismay, one of them said "That's unacceptable." I agreed and told them I hoped changes were made. Went on a Sunday, long before the church crowd would arrive. Waitress took our drink order and our breakfast order after she brought our drinks. There were four of us. Our friend wanted extra sausage and eggs and asked if he had to order it "ala cart". The waitress looked confused and said she didn't know what that meant!! She wrote down our order on a small spiral notebook which seemed odd. While waiting, we visited and enjoyed our coffee. After a while we noticed large trays of food coming from the kitchen and eventually some of those trays went to customers who had arrived long after we did. We finally caught our waitress and asked about our order. She turned pale and looked at her notebook and told us that our order had been lost! Apparently she forgot to tear the page out and give it to the cooking staff! She ran into the kitchen and we never saw her again. We finally located the manager who was bussing tables instead of checking on customers. We told him we had been there for over an hour and we needed to leave. All we got was a "sorry" and no explanation. Basically the waitress and the manager were not properly trained. Don't waste your time here! A 40-minute wait for food at a not-busy Village Inn is prompting this review. We were seated promptly and drink orders taken and delivered. But once our food order was taken, it took 40 minutes for our food to arrive ... and that was only after we'd flagged down a manager and our server. The whole time, the server had been lounging in the doorway of the kitchen, talking to someone doing work at a table by the door. She glanced at our table several times, so I'm not sure why it didn't connect with her that we didn't have our food. Since our food took so long, they offered us each a slice of free pie. Now, I like pie as much as the next person but 1) it was 10:45 am; 2) we'd just finished breakfast; and 3) we had no way to keep the pie fresh, as we were heading out for a day of shopping in 90+ degree temperatures. The server seemed baffled that we were refusing the offer. We expected that in exchange we'd be offered a free meal or a discount, but that didn't happen. Won't be returning. read more

This was my first stop when I come into town and I was not disappointed, our waitress was the sweetest person I think I have ever met. Okay so I want to preface this with: We have been to this establishment before. It usually has decent service and good food with a good family atmosphere, and we've been coming and leaving with mostly pleasant experiences. However, the last few times and today were really just awful. I'm going to put the focus on today however. We get there and it is busy and seemingly understaffed. When she came back with drinks, she only gave us two out of the four we had ordered, being coffees and lacking the water we had both ordered. After this, we waited another hour to even see our food, which came out at the same time as a table with four people that came in about forty minutes after us, meaning she either forgot our orders, or forgot to put them in. At this point we were already irritated. The area we were sitting in was not cleaned properly as a woman who left not even five minutes after we arrived had not had the table she sat at cleared the entire time we were there, and the atmosphere just screamed the in over our headedness of the staff. We were already not enjoying the service when the food came out. And the food being absolutely stone cold when it arrived made us complain. When we did, our server bless her heart, spoke to someone about it and got ten percent off of our bill which was, drum roll please, a total of three dollars. Ten percent, and all we got for bad service and stone cold food was three dollars. Came back the next Wednesday (I'm a slow learner) and waited 25 minutes to be seated - there were 11 empty tables when we were seated. Guess that's an improvement. This place is going down hill, I had a hair in my salad then when I got my meal chicken strips after I had ate some, underneath there was another black hair!!!! I felt so sick to my stomach my silverware had dried on food on it, my sons plate had something black and sticky dried onto his plate he had eggs so I know it wasn't from that I was so mad and disgusted!
