Went to village inn this morning for breakfast. The waitress we got we have had before and she is always looking for a reason as to why not to check on our table. Our order was as simple as simple can be. She didn't check on us at all. The law of the land of being a server is you typically want to wait a couple minutes after serving the food to check on the customers. However she did not do that. She was more concerned about her other tables (all 2 of them). Now with our order we are a little picky when it comes to our food. I got the country music star omelet asked for the gravy on the side and no onions, my husband got the ultimate breakfast with limp bacon and my son got the smothered breakfast burrito (pork carnita). When the food arrived my omelet didnt look like an omelet at all it looked like dirty scrambled eggs with the omelet fillings and my husband's ultimate breakfast with limp bacon looked horrible. About half way through my omelet I bit into an onion my husband's bacon was crispy his sausage was burnt and there were no jalapeños with my son's burrito. The hash browns we got were burnt as well. I honestly don't think that we will be going back to village inn again ever. Would give zero stars if possible!!!!! read more

We we both a little disappointed with our breakfast here. I did a build your own - 4 items of your choice and picked biscuit and gravy, hash browns, bacon and sausage. The biscuit was very dry. Gravy was ok. Bacon tasted burnt and sausage was kind of bland. My wife got the 2 eggs special. She thought it was ok except she got English muffin instead of pancakes and it was so coated in butter she had to try and dry it with a napkin. I stopped for lunch, and I was seated right away. My server was prompt and took my order right away. I ordered the Double Decker Club with fries. My food was delivered within 10 mins, and everything was hot and fresh. At first glance this didn't look that appetizing, but once I took a bit it was really a good sandwich. There was a lot of meat, both ham and turkey. There was at least a couple of pieces of crisp bacon along with a slice of American cheese. Lastly there was a lite amount of iceberg lettuce. Yesterday I came in & was greeted wonderfully & my server Micki (hopefully I spelled that right) was phenomenal!!! Meeting all our needs & never letting my soda hit an empty glass .... This morning I placed an online order for takeout. When I arrived I was told that someone else had picked up my order. Apparently this location sets orders on a table by the door and customers (or whoever comes in) grab their bag. I asked to have my order remade and was told by the manager that they couldn't do that. I then asked to get my money back and was told I would need to call the company I ordered from (I ordered on the Village Inn website). When I said that this is Village Inn stealing from me and was unacceptable the Manager said "it's not her problem". After some arguing between myself and the Manager she decided to remake my order. This Manager is either someone that should not be in a leadership role, received terrible training or a reflection of Village Inn policy. Regardless, I will not be back! read more

My family and I stopped here for breakfast. This place has been a family favorite for years and my mum has also worked here. As you walk in, you are greeted by all the delicious pies in the case as you wait to be seated. In the dining room, the place was nicely re-decorated with a modern/retro style. The place was a bit too cold. I had the French toast combo. The plate was full of thick French toast with butter and lightly dusted with powdered sugar. It also came with an egg made the way you like it and two slices of either bacon or sausage links. I had the bacon and my egg was prepared over easy. It was so good! A nice perk is that if you order coffee, the waitress leaves the pot on the table and will refill it when new coffee is needed. read more

The Syrup in the establishment was cold, not warm. The plates were dirty before we began our meal, and the tables were greasy and dirty. The chocolate milk for our breakfast meal here was quality, only for the reason of the brand. The bacon was soft and fatty, and the French toast was mediocre outside of the looks, which were sloppy. This has been a family tradition to go here for quite some time, and the experiences previously to this one have been amazing. Me and auntie had visited today and the waiter never checked on us, I had ordered pancakes and she never brought syrup to my table but to other tables she has. When she was asked about syrup she brought it to us off of another table and it was cold and when I poured it onto my pancakes it just sat on top because it was cold. There was also a black floatie in my large orange juice. The eggs weren't cooked properly either. Last but not least we went up to pay and they didnt even ask how everything was. This is written about the Village Inn on Elmore in Davenport. I go there late in the day. Like other reviewers have noted, the service and the food are terrible. First the service. The night cashier/manager, Anji is about as unfriendly a host as you'll find: she doesn't ask if you want a drink or tell you who your server is. She slams the menu down and slams the silverware on the table and walks away. The waitress who finally shows up, Tatum, is a good server and attentive and checks back. Other waitresses I've had there disappear for long periods of time (they especially do this at the Harrison/Locust location; but the staff and manager there are friendly, helpful and customer-centric). Second, besides the unfriendly management the main problem at this location is food preparation. The four or five times I have been there my order was missing an item. It was a big unfriendly process to get the right order and I was treated by Anji as though it was my fault. One time she brought me the missing item on a plate, literally shoved it in front me, didn't say anything and turned and walked away as fast as she could. I clearly got the impression that I had inconvenienced her. Awful. This place deserves a zero number of stars. read more

After finally being seated the waiter might say hi or just ignore us until we look ready to order. Either or depends on the day. Do not order waffles here is all I can really say because they all come out colder than butter. It (in the corse of 10 mins) will NOT melt the butter. I could just be liking the taste of village inn food: they could just have very dense butter and just serve the waffles cold and I'm just not liking the taste of COLD waffles. Yogurt was appropriate temp, but they serve their hot coffee cold too. So if you would like hot coffee you'll have to specify then wait. read more

Horrible service. First of all, we waited for ten minutes to get our drink orders taken, and the server who took our order wasn't even our server. Then we waited for our food for 30 minutes, just to have two of our orders be completely wrong, even finding an onion string in our pancakes. Then our server messed up our checks, and had a horrible attitude the whole time. She never checked on us once, and only stopped by to get our orders and to give us our food. A few weeks ago my family stopped for brunch after church, as we often have for years. When our food was served we noticed the avocado was bad, the lettuce was brown and other items were not fresh. A few minutes into our meals, I realized that my husband was choking on his hamburger and not breathing. I flew out of my chair to attempt the Heimlich maneuver. A woman at the next table noticed and began yelling for help. I too, began screaming repeatedly for someone to please help. I kept thrusting but my husband is more than twice my size. The room got quiet but NO ONE MOVED. No one came to our assistance. No one called anyone. No one got the manager. Nothing. After what seemed like an eternity, something worked and my husband began breathing again. We were too traumatized to finish our meals and left. As I walked my husband and small child out, I asked the front desk to comp the meals as we had experienced a traumatic event and were not going to eat our meals. The girls at the counter acted like it was a joke and smirked, telling me they could not comp the meal. I asked for the manager, who knew nothing about it, and she reluctantly agreed to comp the meal. I asked if they had heard me screaming for help, and the girl who smirked said she had but didn't seem to think it mattered. The manager asked why she knew nothing about it, but did not express any concern for the situation or ask if we were ok. We were treated like we were doing something wrong. We will never eat there again. However, I believe that we deserved some sort of compassion and understanding, and I would suggest that Village Inn teach staff life saving skills including the Heimlich Maneuver, and that they pay attention to their guests better. I wrote about our experience to Guest Relations a few days later and never heard a word back. read more

This place does not deserve a 1 star rating but that is as low as YeLP allows you to rate a business. Our food service was unacceptably slow (2X as long as the table next to us that came in after we did). Our waitress disappeared for long periods of time during the entire meal. When the food did arrive it was luke warm at best - - - so it had obviously been sitting around cooling off in the kitchen. I ordered the all-you-can-eat fish & chips. It is easy to advertise it as all-you-can-eat because no one in their right mind would want more of these heavily battered fish pieces that had the consistency of week-old fillets that sat in the sun for a week - - - they were mushy! 2 stars seems harsh for a place that competently manages a breakfast and sandwich menu, but I think Village Inn needs a wake up call and a major facelift. Once their senior citizen clientele dies off, they are going to go extinct. Basic breakfast meals are ok, but the portions are incredibly stingy for the prices being asked. Sandwiches and burgers are satisfactory, but nothing special. I suppose there remain enough bumpkins to think the 'pie' selection is nostalgic, but I will pass.... Come on Village Inn... Either be a first rate family style diner or grow into the 21st Century... Otherwise, you will become the culinary version of Sears. read more
