Anyone who doesn't give this place 5 stars should be ignored. Not only are the servers and bartenders (all of them!) absolutely lovely and darling, but the food is soooo good! We got the Bavarian pretzel which is now our new favorite Bavarian pretzel in the United States. The beer cheese dip and honey mustard are delicious with it. My coworker order the whitefish dip, which I am not normally a fan of, but was outstanding. It was thicker than it normally is and I found out that may be because they melt cheese in it. We also ordered the fried pickles which I rate a 10 out of 10. The fried pickles came with a ranch dip which is not your typical ranch dip-- I believe it's jalapeño and honey infused, or something like that because it is a bit sweet and a bit spicy. The other item we ordered was the steak bites which were, again, absolutely delicious. This steak was not overcooked and it was in an Au jus that I kept dipping my bread into after the steak was gone. I ask the bartender if they had any local wine or liquor, but she led me to a few local beers and I ended up with a hard cider that was more dry than sweet but not too sweet. It's called Blake's Hard Cider. I'm not a beer drinker--I maybe drink beer twice a year. Yet, I liked this one. The view was wonderful, too! We looked over the lake and realized how fun it would be to vacation here in the summer. We were here on a work trip and I would have not thought to vacation in the area, but now we plan on coming back. The one thing I do not recommend is the ice tea. But that's it! read more

I normally don't give one star reviews....but the food we got was terrible. The nachos said they had cheese sauce on them but instead were just chips with melted cheddar cheese on them. The fried pickles we ordered tasted bad. It tasted like they haven't changed the oil in the deep fryer in a very long time. We ordered ranch dressing with them and they brought out tartar sauce then kept saying it was ranch. Hubby ordered baked spaghetti and it came out as a bowl of goulash. If they are out of stuff they need to say so. Mom ordered French Onion soup and it was so salty she could barely eat it and was extremely thirsty the rest of the day. I've been to bad restaurants but this is probably the worst EVER! The waitress suggested the cheese dip. I had maybe 8 normal sized tortilla chips and it was gone. $10 for the smallest cheese dip serving. And then the cheese dip was grainy and bland. Just awful. Then came the chimichanga. This was an absolute embarrassment. The chicken was awful and then they put some kind of chimi sauce on it. It looked like somebody puked on the burrito. And it tasted like puke on top of the chimichanga. And then, the food made me run for the border. The only positive was the waitress was friendly. But she did recommend the chimichanga and cheese dip. The place is very dark. It's because they don't want you to see what you are eating. And I don't blame them. I'm never going back again. Went here on vacation in July. Service was amazing and food was so delicious. We got the Bavarian pretzel which was huge! I ordered the fish and chips it was huge as well delicious. We were staying in St. Ignace and wanted to find a place to eat without crossing the bridge. Thanks to yelp we picked the village inn. I tend to eat as much Whitefish as is humanly possible anytime I am up north. The broiled Whitefish here is one of the very best. Perfectly cooked, well seasoned and very fresh. I appreciate being able to choose sides, I would much rather have a baked potato than fries.The Veggies were super good as well, fresh well cooked green beans and a large carrot. We also started with a pretty good and very large Pretzel. Overall its a local place that has a good bar and excellent food. This is definitely a place we came back to. read more

Terrible. Waited almost 45 minutes for 2 salads and a broiled fish. Salads arrived and both were the wrong ones. Finally got the right ones and they were just awful Sent them back and asked for a refund. Broiled fish was tasteless and the green beans were just as bad. They charged us for the chicken that was on the salads and a full fish dinner. The manager was not the least bit interested in what we had to say. I went for an early lunch on a Tuesday as I made my way back south to Flint to fly home. The place was empty and I sat at the bar. I'd never been before so you can probably guess what I got...Planked Whitefish. It was good. The fish reminded me a little of trout. This is the place to go when visiting St.Ignace, MI! The ambience is casual and has a diner feeling as soon as you walk in. Huge menu to choose from! I had the broiled whitefish which comes with veggies (green beans and 2 whole carrots) and I chose a baked potato for the other side. My wife had the maple chicken with veggies and sweet potatoes. The whitefish is moist and flaky. Big portion of fish. I enjoyed my fish and baked potato. The carrots were good too. My wife loved the maple breaded chicken covered in cheese. The sweet potatoes were delicious with a sweet glaze. We both didn't like the green beans because they were not seasoned at all. Our service was pretty good. This place gets very busy! read more

Complete disappointment ! Dined here several times in the last 5+ years and were always happy with the food and service. Things have changed for the worse !!! On a Tuesday evening in July 2024, obvious understaffing led to slow service start to finish. Our Whitefish sandwiches were tasteless and the coleslaw was a mystery. Waited 15+ minutes for our check, with numerous requests to our waitress. Finally had to chase down waitress, who reprimanded me for leaving our table, then proceeded to charge credit card with wrong bill, didn't know how to reverse charges and needed assistance from the bar maid. It was late on a weeknight and we didn't have many options for Restaurant so we decided to check this place out. First off the service we got was very good. The young girl was highly competent and picked up on subtle cues about us not having enough lemons or needing more items. Great job! As far as the food I have to say we were pleasantly surprised with a lot of the stuff all the different fish items we tried were delicious. The cake was awesome and the white fish cheese dip was perfect except it could've used a little bit more of the bread to scoop it up with. The only complaints we had at all about this place was that the seasoning of items seem to be lacking. The items were cooked really well the texture was great and the quality of the ingredients was nice they just lacked seasoning or ceiling in the pan. I hope this place really takes this to heart and considers upping the level of seasoning and oil technique in the pan for their side vegetables and various different items that just came out a little bland. Other than that we love this place and actually had a really great experience for her. I would deathly recommend it and just be particular about what you order so you don't end up with something that's a little bland and under season and they have great stuff on the menu. read more

I came here to eat while visiting Michigan's upper peninsula and I was delighted. I ordered their popular "plank whitefish" and I was more than pleased. A freshly cooked whitefish, surrounded by a decorative mashed potatoes along some veggies - ALL over a hot plank. It looked visually beautiful and it tasted amazing. The service was really prompt as well. Prices are very fair too. I also highly recommend their fresh Bavarian Pretzel as an appetizer. The only issue one might run into is that they run out of a few items of their food so you may be limited in certain things. But other than that, the restaurant is worth it. read more

My husband loved his perch, sweet potatoes, and veggies. He really liked their tartar sauce too. I enjoyed my broiled white fish, veggies, and rice. Our toddler didn't finish her broied white fish (so I did) but she ate some veggies and saltines. I appreciate that they don't put any butter or oil on the veggies! Stopped in for carryout whitefish. They do not have outdoor seating, and as we are traveling with a dog, I resorted to carryout. While in St Ignace one HAS to get whitefish, right? They had opened at 11, and I was there at 11:30. I will say the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. It took a while to get my order taken, but I must say....very nice staff, though obviously, a bit rushed. The bartender took my order and even made a point to walk over to tell the kitchen this was a gluten free, celiac order. I really appreciated that! On to the food, the whitefish was very fresh, cooked to perfection, (which to me means not overcooked for fish). I was also able to get a hot baked potato at lunch time, and, I often find a baked potato is reserved for dinner only, so this was nice. Finally, while I normally do not specifically comment on the vegetables, these deserved a shout out. The vegetables were amazing. Fresh carrots and green beans, also cooked to perfection, (so not cooked to mush as is often found). Only odd thing was I was told they couldn't do carryout ice tea. They said they didn't have carryout cups. I am not sure if they were just put, or if they don't do carryout drinks. read more

The reviews didn't disappoint! We stopped at Village Inn when we arrived at St Ignace for our weekend getaway. What a great place! I had to try the special Planked White Fish...AWESOME! The fish was so mild and flaky and the tartar sauce was excellent! I loved the garlic mashed potatoes that framed the fish fillet as well. My husband had the RoastEO sandwich which good. Our friends tried the Maple Chicken and Lemon Cream Walleye which was also good. If you're in town, stop in and check it out! read more

Horrible, horrible experience. Do not come here. Avoid at all cost. We experienced the rudest, most confrontational, incompetent server/manager (it was the same person) we've ever encountered. We never received our appetizer (pretzel), we never received our drink order, we never got our french onion soup order, and it took close to 40 minutes to receive the food we actually wound up with. When I brought these issues up to the server/manager out of continual frustration, she was confrontational, rude, and seriously wished death upon me in front of my two very young daughters. On top of all this, we received the incorrect bill when we were trying to leave, which forced us to stay even longer. At one point I had to interrupt her continual badgering to tell her to just go away and get us our bill so we could get out of there. This was honestly, the worst restaurant experience we've ever encountered. Stay far, far away from the Village Inn Restaurant. It is bleh food with horrendous service/management. read more

Stopped based on what we saw in the menu and the previous Yelp reviews. We think the restaurant exceeds its rating and has an excellent menu. We had the maple plank whitefish and the perch with roasted sweet potato blocks. After a starting course of a perfectly baked Bavarian pretzel (excellent and authentic brown mustard sauce) we settled into two very tasty and filling fish meals. The maple plank whitefish is a signature dish, but lives up to its reputation. Perfectly cooked to flake off the skin, it was moist and paired very well with the lemon wedge. Roasted green beans and carrots were cooked to perfection. The potatoes were also excellent. The deep fried perch meal also came with the excellent roasted green beans and carrots. Lovely. The perch pieces were also cooked to perfection. Perch, like the whitefish, is a very mild fish and had excellent flavor. The blocked sweet potatoes were roasted very nicely and were coated with a lovely caramelized sugar glaze that had some nice flavor undertones. An excellent meal. Quick and courteous service. For 25 bucks I got the Ribeye, I asked for med rare and got well done probably because of how thin it was and it tasted like it was soaking in water before throwing it on the grill with no seasoning. In St Ignace in October and therefore there aren't many dining options. However the Village Inn was open and recommended but a couple of locals. When we arrive we were told the wait was 20 minutes but less than 10 and we were seated! Our host wasn't the friendliest of individuals. The menu was very limited. One of my kids chose chicken tenders, which was chicken nuggets...our server gave him the heads up. My wife and other son ordered Nachos. The beef was flavorless, without any seasoning. I ordered the Cod basket, but they were out. So I was offered bluegill, but charged for perch. I love the atmosphere and if I just wanted to drink, this would be a great hangout. read more

Not at all impressed. First we get there, they take our name and tell us to wait around the corner. After about 10 minutes another couple come and sit down. 5 minutes later they are called and we still wait. My wife walks back up to the front and they simply reply "your next". 10 minutes later we are seated in a booth with VERY hard benches. We had to wait another 15-20 minutes before we could even order. I got a sirloin. That was a mistake. Not good, not cooked how I asked. The beans were very plain and not trimmed. We got our bill and had to wait for the waiter to come take my card. Finally got tired of waiting for him and walked up to him at the front. Came up to the UP in our first trip and are staying in the local St. Ignace area and came by this local restaurant for a quick meal. I had the Asian glazed salmon that was pretty good. Wish it had some glazed honey on it which would've been perfect. Baked potato was okay, but might've been a little overcooked. My wife had a whitefish entree and that was excellent. Good for local specialties, but the rest left something to be desired. We stopped by for dinner on our way up north. The location is nice, but the view of the lake wasn't great. The interior is informal and unpretentious. I was hoping for some charm, but it was just kind of blah. We got an appetizer of waffle fries with bacon, cheese and ranch dressing. The fries were quite tasty, as was the bacon and ranch. But the cheese was crappy cheese whiz, the kind you get on nachos at a minor league baseball game. Not bad, but my son got the nachos for a main course and they had better cheese, so it must have been a choice they made that just didn't work for us. He enjoyed his nachos but my daughter's burger wasn't very good. It's hard to mess up a burger, but it was flat and dry and lacking flavor. My wife and I got the maple planked whitefish, and the fish itself was really good and had a very cool presentation. Exactly what we were looking for! The carrots and green beans that came with it were also very good, but the potatoes were dry. Cooking fish properly is harder than making good potatoes, so again it was weird, but that's how our meal went. I suppose I'd go again, but not before looking for better options. read more

Bar: prices are cheap but drinks a bit watery. Restaurant: large portions, food quality okay Rooms: Very basic, very cheap price. Coffee down the hall, okay wifi, bed not very comfortable, old-fashioned tv with adequate cable channels. No hairdryer! Muffins were okay. Prepare to lug your bags up a flight of stairs. And what's up with the towels? Little signs everywhere threatening life and limb if you steal their towels. The towels were not that great!
