The village runner is great! I have bought my last 2 or 3 pairs of running shoes from here and have never been disappointed! They even let you go for a test run on the street before you buy them to make sure that the shoe actually works well with your foot and the rest or your body! It was also the only place in the South Bay that I could find the pink and gray Nike Free's that my wife wanted for her birthday! Can't wait to go back and get a pair for myself! read more

I'm not one for writing reviews but the people at Village Runner are awesome and deserve this long overdue review! I went in there in mid October for a new pair of running shoes for the Rock 'n' Roll half marathon at the end of the month. Being a complete newb to the sport and basically running this race on a dare, I trained in my gym shoes until my feet started to hurt. So I went in there with those shoes and showed them to Tony and told him what I was up to. He first made me feel like a rock star because of what I was doing and then he got to work. He looked up my current shoes to see what kind of support they were and went from there. He told me that the right shoe would feel like you didn't even have a shoe on. So he started me out with a pair if Nikes, watched my gate as walked in the store and then told me to go for a run. I came back and he asked how they felt, I said ok...he then put me in a Brooks, I again go run...he asked, way better than the Nike...next were Sauconey, those were like running on air...when I got back from those, he put Asics on me and I was convinced that the Sauconeys were the winner. The time he spent with me to find the right shoe was priceless. I am a big fan of the all the folks at Village Runner, they have a customer for life now! Now it's time to continue my training for the Asics LA marathon in March, with the help from Village Runner. read more

I like Nike running shoes! Swung by duriing the Summer Fest and saw a pair I liked. Went to every sport store i know to try and see where i can get the best deal. No one else had that color combination and they were all priced higher. I also bought some Asics for the gf at the mb store and they ended up being half size too big. Even though she didn't have the receipt, she was able to return them and actually got a great deal on a different pair of asics. read more

I have been to this store twice and have had nothing but excellent customer service from Darren. I am not a runner, but suffer from plantar fasciitis. As a nurse, my days for wearing clogs are over. I am not a runner but do a lot of Orangetheory and bottom of feet have been hurting and tried changing shoes. Have seen Village Runner for years in the Village and decided to call them and see if they could help. Went in and met Allison and she instantly helped me. Bought one pair of Saucony shoes for Orangetheory and one pair of Nikes to wear to work. Prices are normal and inventory is plentiful. WOW! Did my first workout and feet did not slip out on the rower or in the gym and the treadmill workout~very comfortable. I will not go anywhere else to buy tennis shoes again. Village Runner is THE place to go for runners in the South Bay. The employees are all very knowledgeable runners, and so helpful and friendly! The shoe selection is good, and they can order anything that may not be in stock. Plenty of clothes and all the other paraphernalia that runners need too. They also have all the latest info on area races, running groups and trails to run. read more

Both Village Runner stores (Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach) are great. Most of their sales people are runners, but they have all levels of runners working there, from fast high school and college runners to people who are more casual runners. So virtually anyone who walks into the store (whether you're an elite runner, or a casual walker), will feel comfortable and get great shoe advice, and even training advice if you want it. They take the time to get to know what type of runner you are, how much you run, where you run, and will give you great suggestions on shoes to try on. I've never been steered wrong, and the one time the shoe just didn't work quite right for me, they happily exchanged them for me, and helped me pick out a new pair (which has become my favorite go-to shoe). And if they don't have something, they will special order it for you. The atmosphere in the store is laid back with no high pressure sales, but yet the stores are run very well. Customer service is great. I also love that it's a real community store. They contribute back to the community in so many ways, including giving to the local high school running programs. They have organized store runs and of course, run many of the local races every year. I can't say enough great things about the Village Runner stores! I bought a great pair of shoes here about a year ago and received "OK" service but a really great pair of shoes. So, when I needed a new pair of running shoes, I decided to go back. Well, there were 2 guys working and no customers in the store. You'd think I'd get great service right? WRONG!!! These guys were really rude, totally preoccupied with whatever little project they were working on and they had absolutely no interest at all in helping me. I am a repeat customer here but the service this time by the older guy was not good. Has a poor attitude and just tries to make a sale with no real regard for the customer. The younger kid in there was great. Wont be going back to this store. The problem was that I wanted a certain Brooks shoe that I have worn for years but when i went to the manufacturers website I saw that a lot of previous users that have worn the shoes for years were complaining about the fit now of the present model. When I went to Village Runner, I mentioned this to them and they kept telling me that nothing has chaged and it was the same shoe that I am wearing now and there will be no difference. I wanted to buy 4 pairs and they didn't have my size so I asked if they could just order one pair for me so I could try it before I ordered the other three. The shoe I wanted was the Beast and they cost $129 each so they are pretty pricey. They agreed again telling me that what am I worried about because it is the same shoe and nothing has chnaged and the new model that may be different will be out later this year. I explained that I just don't want to order four of them and find out that they don't fit. When the shoe came in, they called me and I went down there immediately only to find that the shoe was like one size too small even though it was the same size I was wearing. Even the young kid felt it on me and he said it was different but the older guy with his attitude again tells me it is the same shoe that I already have and nothing has changed. He treats his customers like he knows everything about shoes and his customers are so ignorant that they can't tell when a shoe doesn't fit them. All he could keep saying to me was it's the same shoe and nothing has changed like I am some kind of idiot. I ended up buying the next size up even though it didn't feel right but these are the only shoes that keep my feet from hurting so I was desperate. when I got home, I wrote this to Brooks: Dear Brooks...I have worn your beast shoe for a few years now and have always been very happy with them. I needed to get a few pairs for myself and my son and I just happened to check your website and I noticed that quite a few former beast wearers are very dissatisfied with them now. I went to my local running store and they told me there were no changes and they are exactly the same as what I am presently wearing. They didn't have my size so they ordered them for me. I wanted to buy 4 pairs but I told them I am reluctant to have them order them because of what I read on your website. He told me he would order me one pair with no obligation to buy it so i agreed. Well they just called me to let me know that they arrived so I went down there about an hour ago. The shoe didn't fit me at all and it was the exact same size and width as what I was wearing. It was like it was one full size too small. Even the store employee who helped me told me that it's different for some reason but he didn't know why. The store manager became irritated with me when I told him something was different and he told me they are the exact ones that I am wearing now even though they could see my toe was tight against the front of the shoe and the top of the shoe was very tight. I hope you folks can determine what has changed and why past wearers of the Beast are so dissatisfied because these were the only shoes that I really like and the comfort on my past 6 pairs was so good! Our Podiatrist wears the Beast and he highly recommends it. Now I am afraid to buy them because something has gone wrong in your production. Please give me any information you can about what is going on. Thank you. This was their response: Dear Valued Customer, We have been hearing very similar feedback. The midsole didn't change much, but the material in the mesh upper did have some changes. It wraps over the top of the foot tighter which may make it feel smaller than the previous version. The Beast is on a 2 year rotation and the current version came out in 2008. The new Beast comes out in October later this year and has taken the smaller feeling toe box into consideration. I've gotten to the point now where I buy all of my running stuff here. Shoes, watches, socks, and they have great sales on shorts and stuff. Every time I go in they are always friendly and what's even cooler is that all of the employees RUN! They are all very knowledgeable and helpful. There's nothing worse than looking for running shoes and asking an employee what they recommend or something about sizing only to find that it's some annoying kid who just works there part time and doesn't know anything about running...Well that's not the case here. Great local run shops with all the attributes you'd expect from one -- service, area knowledge of routes and races, tight inventory with well curated selection. They are also great with new runners and helping folks pick shoes that work for their gate and stride. The Village shop and the one on Sepulveda are both very well staffed and work across shops to get you what you want if the store you are in is out of stock. They tend to price their shoes at the high end of the retail range, but I don't mind paying to keep these guys in business and getting more folks out of the house and on the road/trail. Love them! I wanted someone to watch my gait and recommend good running shoes. They did just that! I need arch support because I roll my right foot in. The asics I have help with that, but they aren't comfortable anymore. I got a new pair of Brooks Ravenna 3 shoes for $99. All of their shoes and clothes are very reasonably priced. Went in to buy a pair of socks ... never met anyone who knew as much about running socks as the sales guy. Walked out with 3 pairs of running socks. Generously spirited, super customer focussed. I went because they are local and they support the local schools (Tulita) every year and host a 4th of July run that's big. I love that they support our little town. I didn't expect the fantastic customer focus - next time I need a pair of shoes, I'm coming here. These are good people with good product. read more

I ran in the Armed Forces Day 5K in Torrance, which was sponsored by Village Runner. When I checked in before the race, I asked the young lady at registration if I could pick up my T-shirt after the race because I did not want to carry it during the race, and she said definitely. Afterwards, there were a man and woman with boxes where the registration tables used to be. When I asked for a T-shirt, the man said he had already packed everything up and that he would not open up the boxes just to get me a T-shirt. I explained that someone at registration had told me I could pick it up afterwards. The woman said that I should have picked up my registration stuff the day before. I told her that Redondo Beach is more than 30 miles away from where I live. She said that now I should know for next time and have someone who lives in the area pick it up for me. As I walked away, I told them I would file a complaint. They never apologized, so I will not apologize for writing this negative review. I did leave a phone message about the incident with the store a few days later, but it was never returned. read more

Absolutely love this store. Old school yet super proficient in gait analysis and making sure you get the right shoe. Very attentive staff and no high pressure sales tactics. You can even test the shoes outside for a test run. Good stock and always able to order if its something not avail. They present you with many options for shoe selection from various price points.
