I just got back from having dinner with the fam at Villagio Cafe. It was awesome. We like Cazbar downtown alot (Turkish food), but this is closer and better value. Service was great. Food was unusual in some respects. Veggie Olivieh was a great variation of potato salad. Everything we got, we liked. Not huge, but big enough for our family of 5. Meats were very tender. Our favorite Persian spot! We try to visit once a week it's not super close to our house but worth the drive. Try the gormeh sabzi and gheymeh on tahdig absolutely wonderful! Kebabs are really great here too. This place gets packed on Friday and Saturday nights so make sure you call ahead to check availability or make a reservation for a larger party. The name is odd for a Persian (Iranian) place, so we had never tried it until a friend told us about it. You should run, not walk, to this outstanding eatery! This is, bar none, the best mid-eastern food restaurant in the central Maryland area. We found parking easily, and had a quiet late lunch, as we arrived at an off hour (2:30 pm). The place is spotless, the service is cordial, the portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. A ground lamb kabob was amazingly juicy, with outstanding basmati rice. It easily feeds two. The eggplant appetizer was superb, as were the dolmades. My wife ordered the Chicken Fesenjune (one of the national dishes of Iran, with a pomegranate molasses sauce), it was by far the best rendition we've ever had! The Persian ice-cream flavored with rose water, saffron and pistachios provided a great ending for our meal. We had enough to take home for a second meal. You can also BYOB. read more

Was looking for an authentic middle eastern cuisine for my sisters bday and came upon this on yelp! After reading the reviews on here had to try it out. Went on a Monday afternoon, no wait at all got seated right away. Though it got really busy and packed come 630pm. Service was fast and swift. They were friendly and accommodating. Been dying to try the food out since I grew up on eating arabic food was pretty familiar with it & was close to home spent little time picking out what my family and I wanted. Started out with their Chicken Eggplant for appetizer, it's served with their bread (unlimited!). As for entrees i got the Mahi Mahi kebab just to try it out(not bad at all eso the rice!) since the rest of thr family got the Rodger Forge good for a fanily of 2-3 basically consisiting of chick fillet, thigh, shish kebab. As for the sauce, our server recommended us to try their yogurt sauce, Mast-O-Mosir! Def good with their kebabs. First bite took me back to my childhood days it was how i remembered it! Im asian and im a very big fan of middle eastern cuisine. This place even had beryani and kabsa! def will go back next time, can't wait. Must try read more

My wife and I have had two good meals here. She has since gone back with friends and colleagues. The food is good but I can't attest to authenticity but seems similar to Helmand in that nothing fancy but good price point and engaged wait service. I know several friends who are natives to the regional cuisine who say they can cook better than food prepared here but who doesn't say that of their native cuisine if they are skilled in the kitchen. :) read more

Glad to have this place in the neighborhood. The food is great. The chicken thigh kebabs and shrimp kebabs are great. The app plater is great...the dips are all fresh and delicious. BYOB is a plus. They started as cafe style and you ordered at the counter, but now they are doing table service at night (not sure about lunch). Everyone that works there is very nice. Loved it! Portions are huge and the prices are great. Had to take half of it home for our next day's lunch. Started with the appetizer sampler which had several different things to try. Loved everything, and the pita was warm and tasty! For the main course, I had the beef filet skewer, which I could cut with my fork! Super tender! Added a skewer of roasted vegetables on the side...excellent! My husband had a swordfish skewer which he raved about. Everything was served over a bed of basmati rice, the best I've ever had! Service was fast and very friendly. We would definitely go back! Wish we lived closer! It's a small place, so either get there early or call for a reservation. read more

Great stuff! What a nice job they've done. The interior is lovely and comfy, and they've even got outside tables to help us look forward to the spring. A big range of coffees for the morning crowd. Don't expect fancy, since you order at the counter and the food is on styrofoam plates and plastic, but it's still a nice and friendly place. We ordered several kebabs and enjoyed them all a lot--really nice spices on the chicken and lamb. Humus was delectable, and the breads with it were really great and hot. Lentil soup was flavorful and hot. The drinks are a good variety in cans and bottles. One of our kids got mac and cheese, which he said was a winner, too. We really look forward to returning both for eating in (byob) and for take-out. A great addition to this part of the city. read more

Absolutely excellent!!! Brilliant food at an affordable price. My ground lamb entree was beautifully spiced, full of Persian flavors, yet subtle, not overpowering. The stuffed grape leaves and baba ganoush were perfect. The Persian ice cream starts with very light flavors and ends with a breath of rose. This is a great local restaurant within walking distance of our home. We stopped in for the first time on a spur of the moment dinner. We suggest reservations as the place is popular. When they first opened we were so excited to have a place to walk to to eat and the food was very good. The last few times we have been there it has been extremely loud. Some customers camp out there with their children and allow them to miss behave. Employees are wonderful but they simply ignore this kind of rude behavior. Not sure why this has been happening but it's super disappointing. I understand taking your children out to dinner I know I'm a mother as well but to allow your children to bang on dishes run around and scream at the table is acceptable. Hopefully the next time we go we will have a better experience. read more

This was my 3rd visit. First time was awesome, second time not as great (undercooked chicken kebab), 3rd time was definitely not a charm. Hummus was thin and bland. Veggie kebab platter was lots of rice and not much veggies--seriously it was 2 tiny potatoes, a little zucchini, a tomato and mostly green pepper and onions. No eggplant as described on menu. Husband's chicken kebab had 5 small flat pieces of chicken (not cubes). The platters looked impressive when they were brought out but then we realized the food was spread out and arranged to fill the plate but there really wasn't much there. For $10-$12 each, it was mostly rice. Service was friendly but I'm reluctant to return. read more

Great food, even better price. We started out with the Greek Salad, it was fresh with fantastic dressing and feta that is out if I his world. We got a side of Mast-O-Khyar-a yogurt dip wit mint a cucumber, wish I could whip it up myself! We had an assortment of kabobs, all great-chicken, scallops, and shrimp. After living in Northern Virginia it's been very difficult for me to find a Persian kebab place that meets my expectations. This place comes as close as I found. The ground beef kebabs are excellent. Best kabobs, amazing desserts, and fantastic prices!! I've been to a number of Persian restaurants, and the kabobs here are the best I have had. Also perfect for vegetarian/vegan friends. The hummus is hands down the most delicious thing I have ever eaten. And they have fantastic HOT entrees for vegetarians, like the vegetarian gheimeh with delicious split peas and okra and a flavorful tomato sauce. Good, service, atmosphere, portion size, prices.... That is what makes them 5 stars. Their iced tea is obviously home brewed and delicious. Their portions are huge and reasonably priced. Been numerous times and never fails to be yummy. Love the appetizer platter to share. Continual free refills of their yummy warm naan. Everything homemade and you can tell.
