I find the food wonderful and plentiful. The atmosphere is very laid back and the servers don't rush you. Plus I love that it is BYOB!!

Pleasantly pleased with my first Persian experience. Just off Joppa Road no the eastern edge of Towson is a massive complex built just for shops. In the sea of massage parlors, tanning salons, and laundromats is a Orchard Market & Cafe, serving up authentic Persian cuisine for 35+ years and counting. Had the fam visiting sis in nearby Pikesville. When we come down she always picks somewhere off the beaten path, something unique. This visit was no exception. Having never tried Persian food, I was excited to try something completely new. In this case, it was new yet also familiar. It's kind of like a mix between Indian and Mediterranean. You've got your assortment of stews and grilled meats infused with saffron, cardamom, and turmeric served of course with a side of basmati rice. The Mediterranean influence can be seen in their homemade hummus and use of fresh fruit and vegetables. There is perhaps no better example than the Mango Pear Salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, mango, pear, Bulgarian feta and pomegranate vinaigrette. If you're feeling up for some true Persian fusion, you can't go wrong with Spicy Kermani Beef, which features succulent filet mignon sauteed with mushrooms and pepperoncinis in a zesty tomato garlic curry sauce. Everything in that brief description is right up my alley, and usurpingly the meal did not disappoint. Service was on point from start to finish, the finish being a tall glass of Persian saffron ice cream. Now this was truly a first for me, as I've never had anything like this in my life. The taste can be described as earthy, slightly floral and very aromatic. Rosewater adds the floral notes, while the saffron gives it the signature golden-yellow color and luxurious scent. Definitely a one-of-a-kind flavor that I highly suggest trying. The dining room is cozy with some neat pieces of art resembling ancient Middle Eastern artifacts adorning the walls. All in all I'm glad we got to try cuisine that doesn't have much representation in this neck of the woods. read more

The grilled meats were well seasoned. The portion sizes are generous. We ordered 2 different dishes and shared them. The saffron ice cream with pastry and sour cherries was heaven. The one thing we can always be sure of when we go to the Orchard Market is consistency. Jason and his staff have created a most welcoming and delightful atmosphere for dining. We were warmly greeted by Jason. Our friends started with Sauteed Bulgarian Feta, which is soft, creamy Bulgarian sheep's cheese melted over farm tomatoes and onions and topped with black olives; served with warm pita slices. Their entrees were the Barg (a skewer of butterflied beef tenderloin with grilled tomato & onion, seasoned with sumac) with half salad and half basmati rice; and the Chicken Panir Sabzi (a boneless chicken breast sauteed with onions, mushrooms, artichokes in a melted feta and herb sauce) along with basmati rice. My husband had the Soltani (one full skewer of butterfly-cut beef tenderloin and a skewer of finely ground beef grilled with tomato & onion, seasoned with sumac) with half salad and half basmati rice. I decided to try something new to me and ordered one of their specials. It was the Pistachio Chicken (a boneless breast of chicken in a smokey garlic and cayenne and herb sauce with mushrooms, herbs and pistachios) along with basmati rice. Over the years I've heard how GREAT the OMC is and was even reminded by their flyers at a pizza joint in my zip code. My late wife and I intended to visit but never did. My loss. Our loss. A musician friend and his jazz quartet had a gig there a few nights ago and the event was by invitation only in the hope of making such events a frequent occurrence at the Orchard. I committed to attend knowing I would be in for excellent jazz and superb food. Since I've caught the band live throughout the area and became acquainted with other friends of the band, I had no problem sitting with fellow travelers. Music started shortly after six with the house nearly packed. A server and owner/manager worked the front of the house. Our table ordered. Three of us ordered mix kabob platters and the other ordered a more exotic Persian entree. Yes, service was operating at a stress test level but they got the food out as quickly as possible. Thank God most patrons were patient. The food was superb and exceeded expectations in terms of quality, quantity and value. The restaurant is well decorated in Persian theme and very different from Larry David's "Palestinian Chicken Joint." Most seemed pleased with their meals and I'm glad o finally trekked out to this fine establishment. Kudos to Jason, his waitress and kitchen staff for making it a great night despite the unintended "stress test." I found a new place to enjoy not just for the food but, hopefully, the cool jazz as well. Cheers! read more

We already had a favorite Persian restaurant in Towson so we were surprised to see a second one in the area and wanted to try. Although not too far off Joppa Rd. you can say this is a somewhat hidden spot in a mini/understated strip mall. When you walk in you're greeted with a partial seating area with plants and awards that showcase recognition for Orchard. Open the window door and you move into a medium size dining area filled with Persian decor/framed art. For sure, Orchard has the edge when it comes to dine-in atmosphere (when compared to the other Persian spot in Towson). Friday at 5:30 there was one couple dining in but takeout was busy as we were quoted 35-40 minutes for our order. (Maybe due to snow forecast?) Didn't see online ordering so called in for takeout. Got an Answer on the second try and ordering was seamless. Ordered the Mixed Kebob and Eggplant/Artichoke dip for appetizer. Asked what we should try and the friendly Gentleman recommended the Lamb Bademjune. Mixed Kebob came with Beef, Chicken and Tenderloin. All the meats were seasoned just right with the chicken standing out. We liked their Basmati rice also as it wasn't greasy/overloaded with butter. The Eggplant/Artichoke was a surprise as we missed the Sweet Mustard sauce ingredient so we were expecting savory. It was a bit too sweet for us and almost could have been a dessert. Don't think we would order this one again. The Bademjune was tasty with tender lamb, eggplant in the savory tomato sauce. We only got one Pita (thinking for the appetizer) so if you like Pita with your entrees you'll need to put in an order for extras Would like to come back and eat-in. By far my favorite restaurant!!!!!!! I am nearly 35 years old. I have been coming to this reatauranf continuously since I was 10 years old. Not once has this restaurant disappointed me, out of all the countless times I have been there. Tucked away on Orchard Tree Lane off Joppa Road near Guitar Center and MO's Seafood, this little restaurant is small, the taste is huge! I have tried different things on the menu, but my favorite meal is the Sautéed Bulgarian Feta and the Hummus. Jason is an excellent waiter. From the very first time I visited when I was 10, from now, he always greats me and everyone with kindness. I never have waited long for the food either. The service is quick and the experience was never less than perfect. I strongly encourage anyone who is looking for excellent Persian food to visit this restaurant! I went for the lunch menu and I very much enjoyed the Filet and Provolone Pita Pocket Sandwich. It was flavorful and tender and filling. The meat was standout, I liked how thin the pita pocket was in each bite, though it did tear easily and so eating by hand could be messy. I think the thin pita pocket used for the sandwich is different from the more bread-like pita cut up and served with the soup as an appetizer. I was curious and had the Aash, a thick chickpea and lentil soup, to start, and it was good but the hearty flavors were familiar. While I was sitting a couple and a group of four came in, and the server was able to greet a few by name. He was quick if I ever looked for him, but didn't hover or check in too often like some small places do. It was a relaxed experience. I appreciated that the check itemized how much would be due if paid in cash, and the slight increase from the credit card fee if using a card instead. read more

This is a lovely restaurant tucked towards the back of Orchard Lane off of Joppa Rd. The unassuming exterior gives way to a warm and lovely interior. Jason handles the service expertly and is extremely helpful explaining the menu and offering suggestions. We had delicious appetizers, entrees and dessert (with freshly brewed coffee). My personal favorites are the Mango Pear Salad as an appetizer, the Chicken Zahedan entree or Garlic Eggplant Chicken entree (a hint of garlic and not nearly overpowering as the name implies) and the light and fresh Fruit Cake for dessert. Here's another place I never knew existed that is amazing! It's tucked away in a business park, but we'll worth looking up and going too for dinner! As soon as you walk into the restaurant you feel transformed as if you've gone somewhere else, the waiter is super friendly and seems to know everyone who comes in. This place is an amazing hidden gem! I was looking up somewhere good to eat for lunch, and I found this on Yelp, then got lost finding it, bc it is located behind Gardiners Furniture in a side strip shopping center. Now that I talked about the hidden part. I'll tell about why it's a gem. I got a unique pita sandwich with curry braised beef tongue, and it was flavorful, tender chunks of meat, tomatoes, lettuce all wrapped in a warm pita. It was served with a yogurt cucumber sauce thar made it even more fresh and delicious! You couldn't tell from the outside, but this place is so cute inside. They have ornate table clothes and beautiful Persian decor. The owner is very nice and friendly. I really enjoyed my lunch and I'm looking forward to go back to try something else! :) read more

My dad and step mom took me and my husband here Saturday night. Their menu is so varied--they have everything from seafood and chicken to duck. Their sauces for each entree are all different and their salads are representative of Middle Eastern fare. EVERYTHING was delicious, but I especially loved the chicken with mango sauce I ordered! The service was amazing. Our water glasses were continuously filled and it was a busy Saturday night. Will go there again!! Our family has been coming here for years. The owners are cordial, and will modify your dish if needed. I got the mahi mahi with shrimp and scallops, but I have an allergy to scallops, so they just added more of the other 2 ingredients and eliminated the scallops. We had the mango pear salad which is always nice. The spreads are a good way to start the meal. We chose the eggplant this time. Plum lamb is another of our favorites. The kabobs are good. I guess it is relative, but I find their prices reasonable for their quality level. And remember, it is byob, so you are not faced with a wine that is marked up 200-300%. Their desserts are good. One of our favorites is the cake with assorted fruit toppings. There aren't a lot of restaurants that we keep returning to, but this one has earned our trust. read more

My friends who live in Parkville raved about this place. I was really excited to try it; I'd never had Persian food before! Location - it's hidden off of Joppa Road; you gotta keep your eyes peeled for Orchard Tree Lane, which is not at a discernible intersection. Head down the lane and you'll see it on the right. BYOB - sweet. No corkage fee? AWESOME. It was nice to split a bottle of wine and not have to worry about the restaurant level markup on booze. Okay, my friends often get the Persian Paella and the Veggie Kebabs; both are apparently great. I went with them for Sunday's buffet so I could sample a variety. It was good, but I thought there'd be a few more options, and that they would replenish the basket with pita slices. The house salad with a tasty vinaigrette is nice. Their soup is great - lots of chickpeas and mint and parsley. Filling and yet refreshing. Hummus is solid - they add a bit of cheese to theirs. The Garlic Eggplant Chicken is okay. The sauce is tasty and the chicken tender, but the eggplant is a little much cut into long spears rather than cut into smaller pieces. The winner for me was the shish kebabs with grilled peppers, onions, and tomatoes. They had one that was chicken and another ground beef - both delicious. That sumac seasoning makes it great. If I'm in the area, I would definitely come back for a nice night out or a hearty helping at the lunch buffet. read more

We got there at 12PM and didn't get food until 12:40PM. We got in, no one is there. There was a customer that was sitting on her table and no waiter/waitress at the frontdesk at all. It was quiet. We walked in, picked a table to seat, then wait .... no one came out. Then another customer walked in and she didn't know who to look for. She walked straight into the kitchen to call the service out, and we were still sitting there waiting. I heard the food is good that's why we tried to wait and taste it. 15 mins later, we were still waiting and no one came out giving us the menu. Couple customers started to walked in, then the waitress came out gave them the menu and took their orders before us!!!! I tried the chicken kabob sandwich, it was delicious. But I rather not wasting time because the service is really slow. If you want to give it a try, it has good food. If you don't have patience to wait, then it won't be your place. The food wasn't terrible in that no one got sick, but is most certainly not in any way authentic Persian food and wasn't great in general. Server was generally rude and initially it seemed she was irritated to be there. On my way to the restroom, I had overheard her being much kinder to other guests whom seemed to be regulars; it was then I realized she must have been irritated WE were there. It didn't matter though because our waiter could not have been friendlier or more helpful. He was extremely attentive and catered to our every need. The appetizers were awesome. We had the hummus platter, the artichoke and eggplant platter, a soup and the mango shrimp. It was all delicious and extremely filling. The lamb kebabs were fresh and deliciou with lots of meat. Hidden gem, you'd only find this place by word of mouth. We started out with the eggplant dip and the mango pear salad. Eggplant dip was kinda bland, but the mango pear salad was great and tasted exactly as it sounds. Their best dish is their plumb lamb but all their entrees are pretty good. I got the chicken Isfahan, which had provolone and eggplant on chicken. As with all their entrees, it's the sauce that really makes the dish. If I was blind, I wouldn't have noticed the eggplant or the provolone. Service was excellent. This place is reasonably priced and they let you bring your own wine, I'll definitely be back. read more

We got the eggplant/artichoke in dill/Dijon sauce- there was no eggplant, canned arthichokes in some tart syrup. The Bulgarian feta app was literally 3 specks of feta swimming in a pool of tomato sauce. The eggplant/bean purée app tasted and looked like old grey wallpaper paste. My friend's $18 chicken plate was flavorless and tasted old. I'm surprised we didn't get food poisoning! We went there based on the positive reviews, HUGE disappointment. read more
