I wasn't able to go to the place I planned to, so I decided to stop by the Villas food truck since it was in the way. The food was made fairly quickly and the man who took my order was very kind when I decided to add an order of chips and queso to my order of three al pastor tacos. The meat was very flavorful and the tacos were the perfect portion. I loved the green salsa they had on the side. Also included were the fixings of radishes, cucumbers and limes. We don't get to Marion often but we ventured there for Small Business Saturday and had to hit up a local spot. And we are GLAD we did! The restaurant is updated and clean, so we were impressed from the time we walked in. Our server was amazing - my husband LOVES spicy stuff so our server brought us the hottest salsa and hottest sauce they have, and husband was in Heaven. The food was also delicious. And gigantic portion of chicken fajitas - we have leftovers for a couple days! Overall a great experience and we can't wait to go back and to hit up the Villa's in CR! read more

Friend had her small service dog in carrier and put on floor under table. Mean older woman demanded her out. Questioned why service dog & needed proof which is illegal. Friend has a tactile service dog that goes on all trains & planes and everywhere with her due to mental health problems. This was horrendous & will never, ever go back. They made my friend worse and she's still upset after a week. read more

First off, I love a good street taco but I don't LOVE Mexican food in general. The rice and refried beans are lost on me. But Villas has a decent selection of tequilas to choose from (which is the real reason to visit a Mexican restaurant ). Decent, in this case however, means a lot to choose from...not necessarily anything unique or unusual. Their Patio is nice and it's roomy inside as well, so you don't feel like you're sitting on top of another table while you're eating. Overall good...but no better than any other Mexican place. read more

Well power was out so we had to go out to eat we meet in here several times in the past seem like a good excuse to stop and no power in the house the air-conditioning is working and the food is awesome so Peggy got a quesadilla. The food was outstanding my biggest regrets are we don't get back here frequently enough. I'm gonna have to work on fixing that my girlfriend does like Mexican so it should work out. Walking into villas you are greeted by a hello from a hostess which makes you feel at home. Lalo greeted us with chips and salsa and asked what margaritas we are drinking. I informed him I'm on a low carb diet. He brought me cucumber slices as I request for salsa and fried pork rinds. The service was Fabulous. Had a coupon if you spend $12 you get free nacho and that's all it said with a purchase of $12 we even double check with our waitress that drinks would count and we showed them the coupon and they said by the wording, it should be so we order enough drinks and get the nachos and they bring it out and we're already halfway done and then the manager tries telling us that we have to get other food. The coupon doesn't count with drinks, although that's not what the coupon said and our waitress said it should be OK after we already ordered. I'm giving them two out of fives because the waitress was still extremely nice and respectful but the manager was rude and told us we had to buy more food to get them free, and eventually convince them otherwise, from what we were told and what their coupon says. Wanted Mexican take out yesterday and was unable to reach Max Margaritas after 45 min of calling. We order chicken and and a combo fajitas. The salsa was really good and nice portion of beans and rice. The actual fajitas were just ok. They were very bland, no seasoning or salt, and cooked as if a light stir fry. Neither my husband nor I cared for them. I've never had fajitas at a Mexican restaurant that were cooked this way and if in the restaurant these would not have been served sizzling in the pan as is traditional. read more

This is our go-to local tex-mex restaurant. Monster portions, free chips and salsa, and good margaritas. We like the house barrel margarita, but a lot of people order the fruity flavored ones. They come in many sizes and one could easily get pretty loaded pretty quickly. Portions are big, so consider sharing an entree. Our favorites are Grande Steak Quesadilla with grilled mixed veggies. It comes with rice and beans and a side of guacamole. Or, we love the trio of pork tacos which includes two chorizo, two carnitas, and two something else. Perfectly seasoned and served with radish, grilled onions bulb, and roasted green pepper. So good. Service is fast and restaurant has a super fun vibe. It's a happy place. It was a beautiful day so me and my coworker sat outside, on the patio and had a great time. The queso fundito was very good as an appetizer. However, it arrived with three tortilla shells and two plates. If there was two of us, this would never be a problem but there was four. Not to mention the fact that all of our chips and salsa we're gone. The waiter, as soon as he was available...... Which was not soon, was able to accommodate us in our request. That is where the problem lies with this place. The food was good, the atmosphere was as well, but service suffered due to being short staffed. (FYI, it was the Thursday before the Labor Day weekend and we were there to have some fun, enjoy a nice atmosphere, enjoy each other's company, enjoy a good Mexican lunch, and have some cocktails. That being said, the waited said they only had one beer on tap, even though their menu had multiple beers on tap. We had multiple beers on tap listed on their menu but apparently they were unavailable. I'm sure I will be back and try to get them and give them another fair shake but let's face it, Mexican food in Iowa is Mexican food and Iowa, and it's going to be similar to every other place you go to. (there are a few exclusions mind you). If you're looking to go and hang out for a nice long lunch, you're in the right place. Until recently Villa's Patio in Marion, IA, had for many years been my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Cedar Rapids metro area. One day last week (possibly July 2, 2020) at about 7 PM, my wife and I dined there. I ordered one of my favorites, the Enchilada Vallarta, for which I paid the $8.79 price indicated on the menu. This was the regular evening dine-in price, NOT a lunch special. It was delicious, which prompted me to order the same item earlier today (July 7) for carry-out. Before doing so, I checked the on-line menu to confirm the $8.79 price. The on-line menu was, as near as I could tell, identical to the dine-in menu I had viewed the previous week. There was no separate carry-out menu for carry-out that I could find on the website, so I assumed that $8.79 would be the price I would be charged. It didn't occur to me to verify the $8.79 price when I phoned in the order. After all, they wouldn't have needed to wait on me or to serve me complimentary ice water, chips and salsa. Much to my surprise when I picked up the order, I was charged $12.84. The price for the entrée was $11.25. In addition to this significantly inflated price, the restaurant charged me an additional "carry-out" charge of $0.75. 7% sales tax was applied to the $12.00 total to raise the price I paid to $12.84. When I asked the server/hostess whether there had been a mischarge, she showed me a dinner menu with the price for the entrée listed at $11.25. Where this menu came from is a mystery. Like the online menu and the dine-in menu I examined the previous week, it listed only one item called Enchiladas Vallarta. Did VP really increase their entree prices by 28% during the 5-day interval between my orders? The food smelled good. The transaction, however, smelled a bit rotten. I know that other area restaurants gouge their customers on carry-out orders. I could offer examples, but at least those businesses have the decency to acknowledge the inflated carry-out price on their website. Villas Patio should take heed. They have greatly disappointed me, and I likely will not patronize them again. read more

We dropped in to enjoy a meal on the patio, but we won't be returning in any weather. Staff took every opportunity to ignore us from the moment we walked in. People that arrived after us were seated, greeted, and served immediately while we continued to wait for a server. The food, once it arrived, was below average. We ordered queso, pico de gallo, and tacos el paizas...Or so we thought. There was more onion than anything else both in my pico and on the tacos. My pastor taco had 6 or so little cubes of dry, flavorless meat and the rest of the tortilla was smothered in onion. The pico was definitely not fresh - you could see the slight discoloration from it soaking in itself. The tacos had no flavor, pastor was unrecognizable and dry, carnitas tasted like greasy leather, and the chorizo tasted like it came from Walmart. After waiting forever for our server to come back for the check, we went inside to pay the bill to find about 5 staff hanging out behind the bar. At this point, as we stood there, our server and the others just stared at us like we interrupted their conversation. They couldn't have cared less about our meal or their job. Such a shame when the building itself is a lot nicer than some of the other places around. read more

Terrible service, terrible strawberry margaritas, terrible food. My friend got the carnitas and I got the fajitas. She said that her carnitas were not seasoned well and very bland. My fajitas didn't come sizzling like fajitas are supposed to. It was cold and there was barely any meat. We had strawberry margaritas and had to send them back because they were nasty and had a bad after taste. I don't recommend this place. Jeez, this is tough... It's the Christmas season and I wanted to give Villa's at least a four, but the idea is to be as accurate as possible. This restaurant is certainly okay, but the food I had just didn't shine. Pros: The interior is beautiful and a great place to take a date. Most of what I had was decent. The steak and shrimp in the fajitas tasted delicious. The salsa was pretty good though quite mild - perfect for those who can't take the heat.. I asked for salsa picosa (spicy) and it was a bit hotter but definitely very flavorful Cons: Here is one huge pet peeve - the sour cream was extremely thin and dripped off my fork. It tasted as if thinned down with milk. I had ordered the Texas fajitas and the chicken tasted old, tough, and possibly reheated. My dish was served in an aluminum skillet which was not hot enough to keep the food piping hot. Fajitas should be served on sizzling, smoking, cast iron skillets. The beans were foamy and flavorless, kind of like when we Americans put way too much water in the mashed potato flakes... mushy. Worse yet, the beans and rice were cold when served. There were two different colors of chips in the basket. The lighter ones were crisp and fresh and the darker ones tasted very stale. Overall, I was a little disappointed. Rather than stars I would rather grade Villa's Patio as a C plus but not quite a B minus. I eat at a lot of Mexican restaurants and some have set the bar pretty high. Nonetheless, I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying Villa's. It's okay. I would go there again.. When I do, I might just upgrade the rating. They deserve a second chance. read more
